Oh, what could have been! After a long stint in the hot seat after laying down a time that bested the season's biggest names, the last man down the hill squashed our tall bar savior's time (and the rest of the field). We were filled with mixed emotions as reality set in that we'd have to wait a little longer to see Dak win his first World Cup, but what a treat to watch Ammuary Pierron piece together a historic run that cemented his return to the top of the sport. We chatted a lot about the wet, slippery conditions that made Val di Sole particularly difficult this year. Dak weighs in on where Amaury made up so much time and how he adapted his bike for the steep, technical track. Why are time gaps always so big down the Black Snake, and how much Dak made in bonuses from his 2nd place finish. We also cruise the results sheet from each class, dissecting who had standout riders and where overalls stand going into the fifth round of the year in Les Gets. A river beneath a river with an edgy sense of humor, Sara Jean Kelley is an explorer, a rescuer, naturalist, and an active member of her creative community. Born and raised by the venerable bluegrass songwriter, Irene Kelley, Sara loves wild plants and animals and music and people and has the scars and stories to prove it. Sara's songs are conceptual, yet relatable. Her voice is timeless, yet singularly her own. And her delivery can shift, like the weather, from dark and sultry, to light-as-a-feather. A triple Scorpio, she has been compared to Brandi Carlile, Patty Griffin, and Lucinda Williams, and has already shared the stage with legends such as Emmylou Harris and Rodney Crowell. Sara studied evolutionary biology in Durango, Colorado and her first EP, The Wild explored her connection with the earth, and the soil; the relationship she has with and honor she holds for the natural world. Sara's forthcoming EP, Black Snake is about life and death, transformation and rebirth, strength and resilience; all the things you experience in your early thirties that you wish you had known a decade earlier. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/tophillrecording/support
These awesome brands make The B Practice Podcast possible!Maxxis | Industry Nine | BurgtecHoly cow, what a weekend of racing from Val di Sole! Arguably the gnarliest track on the circuit, this year provided spectacular racing thanks to some methodical course adjustments and bucketloads of new dirt. Racers were treated to periodic rain that really mixed things up as the track was ever-evolving, and bikes and bodies were put to the test, surviving the infamous Black Snake track. As always, Dakotah Norton brings you between the tape with his trackside insights and breaks down the excitement from Val di Sole with Tanner Stephens and Jason Schroeder. In this episode, the crew discusses if VDS should be the blueprint for a World Cup DH track, what it's like being chased by livestream drones, Jackson Goldstone's textbook technique and bike setup, Ronan Dunne ingesting six Red Bulls on race day, weights strapped to down tubes, Dakotah playing in the tape during Semi-Finals, and the speed Junior racers in 2023. Thank you so much for listening, and we will see everybody after World Champs in a month! Enjoy!

Wes goes to the Standing Rock protest while experiencing a psychotic episode and attempts to fulfill what he believes is his destiny.
Native American Anishinaabe people have been living around the Great Lakes since time immemorial, following spiritual beliefs centred around the water. But they say their way of life is being threatened by an oil pipeline sitting on the bed of the Straits of Mackinac, a volatile waterway connecting two of the Great Lakes, Lake Michigan and Lake Huron. The Line 5 pipeline has been there for 69 years, but only came to public attention after a major oil spill in Michigan led to its discovery. The company that owns the pipeline insist it is safe. But its location is central to the Anishinaabe people's creation story, positioned as it is in the heart of North America, or Turtle Island as the Anishinaabe call it. They believe they have a sacred oath with The Creator to protect the Great Lakes, which contain a fifth of the world's fresh surface water. The BBC's Leana Hosea meets some of the tribes affected in their Michigan reservations and follows their fight to protect their faith and traditions in modern America. Photo Credit: Gerardo Reyes

7-14 Segment 1 Part II - Parents making out when son gets drafted - Killing a black snake - Can Brandon Saad step up to fill Perron's vacancy? - What to do if you're bit by a rattlesnake?
In celebration of the anniversary of the killing of Custer, to prepare for revolutionary efforts against the theocratic authoritarian regime which has taken over the US, and in hopes of a holy war against the forces that are destroying life on earth, Arnold describes lessons learned at, or illustrated by, the pipeline struggle of 2016-7 at Standing Rock. When moments of uprising occur, how do we gain the organization necessary for our strategies and tactics to evolve faster than those of the police? For as much as the police will inevitably surveil us, do they really have any idea what they're looking at? What is pipeline construction like? When is it time to concentrate, when is it time to disperse, and how do we coordinate diffuse conflicts? Is there an optimum of risk and difficulty for protest to progress into revolution? Are trainings, so often eschewed by more radical movement elements, the best way to organize people? These are some of the questions we ask in this episode.
Quaake are an Irish duo hailing from Derry, Northern Ireland. With exceptional releases on highly respected techno labels such as Reload, IAMT, Numen, Prospect and Black Snake, they have been supported by some of the top artists in the industry such as Spartaque, Ramiro Lopez, Xenia and Danny Tenaglia. The talented artists gained the accolade of having being supported on the BBC Radio 1 Music Introducing Dance show three times within their first year releasing music. The partnership has led them to building their reputation over the past year through the means of producing their own niche style of music, best described as ranging from “energetic and heavy-hitting” to “euphoric and powerful”. Their love and passion for music has helped them embrace the challenges they have faced thus far, steadily gaining the experience needed in order to reach the next level. With some big releases under their belt, the Irish artists are not for stopping anytime soon…
On this edition of Parallax Views, William Hogeland of Hogeland's Bad History on Substack (and author of such rip-snorting histories as The Autumn of the Black Snake and The Whiskey Rebellion) joins me to discuss the Supreme Court draft opinion that seeks to overturn the Roe Vs. Wade decision on abortion. Hogeland wrote about this matter in a Substack entry entitled "'Deeply rooted in this Nation's history and tradition' The Bad History in Alito's Draft Overturning Roe v. Wade". What does the leaked draft say about the trends we're headed towards and what to make of the argument made in the draft and what is driving it? Hogeland argues that the draft has national-mythopoetic language in it that animates nationalist sentiments seeking to overturn progressive gains in the past half century. In the second segment of the show, Sanna'a, Yemen-based journalist Nasser Arraybyee joins us to discuss the ceasefire between Houthi forces and Saudi Arabia in the 7-year long Yemen war that's turned into one of the world's worst humanitarian crises. The ceasefire has been in effect since Ramadan and is, according to Nasser, optimistically looking like it will hold. Nasser explains why this ceasefire is different; Saudi Arabia's changing relationships with Iran, Turkey, and Qatar; the United Arab Emirates; the role of al Qaeda and ISIS in Yemen; the effect of Saudi-led blockades on the Yemeni population; and much more. In the third and final segment of today's program, Yumna Patel, Palestine New Director for Mondoweiss, joins me to discuss her new documentary Inside Israeli Apartheid. Yumna discusses the unequal treatment of Palestinians in both the Occupied Territories AND within Israel proper as well as some of the specific issues covered in her hard-hitting documentary that follows on the heels of human rights organizations like B'Tselem, Human Rights Watch, and Amnesty International discussing the question of apartheid in relation to Israel. Please be sure to watch the documentary at Mondoweiss!

This is George Palmer's story from starting out as an immigrant to becoming a Supreme Court Judge and then onto being an Australian Composer. George Palmer's bio George Palmer was born in 1947. He graduated in Arts and Law from Sydney University in 1970 and practised as a solicitor specializing in commercial law. In 1974 he was called to the Bar and in 1986 he became a Queens Counsel. He was a Judge of the Supreme Court of New South Wales from 2001 to 2011.As a youth, Palmer studied piano with Frank Warbrick and Neta Maughan, both eminent teachers. He has been composing since he was a teenager but never sought to have his music performed. By chance, his music came to the attention of the ABC in 2003, resulting in an episode of Australian Story on ABC TV in 2004, a live broadcast by ABC FM of a concert of his orchestral music and the release by ABC Classics of a CD of his music, Attraction of Opposites.Since then, he has received many commissions. A Mass, A Child is Born, for choir, soloists and orchestra, was commissioned by Ars Musica Australis in 2005 and was recorded by ABC Classics with Cantillation and Sinfonia Australis, conducted by Dr Paul Stanhope. The CD, Exaltate Dominum, released in 2007, contains Palmer's other choral works, also performed by Cantillation.Other works include: Not Going Quietly, premiered by The Sydney Omega Ensemble in 2007; Concerto for Two Clarinets and Chamber Orchestra, performed by Dimitri Ashkenazy, David Rowden and The Sydney Omega Ensemble; The Beancounter, for the West Australian Youth Orchestra; a song cycle for baritone and piano, Letters from a Black Snake, commissioned for the opening of the Sidney Nolan Retrospective at the New South Wales Art Gallery and the National Gallery of Victoria; a piano quartet, The Way It Is, for The Seraphim Trio; a Clarinet Sonata, Black, White and a Little Blue, premiered in The Utzon Room at The Sydney Opera House by David Rowden in 2010. His works have been performed by orchestras and chamber groups in Australia, the United States and Europe and receive frequent airplay on classical music stations. In July 2007 Palmer was commissioned to write the Papal Mass for World Youth Day 2008 in Sydney. The Mass, Benedictus Qui Venit, for large choir, soloists and orchestra, was performed in the presence of the Pope and an audience of 350,000 with soloists Amelia Farrugia, soprano, and Andrew Goodwin, tenor, directed by Benjamin Bayl. His most recent work, Cloudstreet, an opera adapted by Palmer from Tim Winton's classic novel was premiered on 12 May 2016 by State Opera of South Australia with the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra conducted by Timothy Sexton the artistic director of SOSA and directed by Gale Edwards. The opera was hailed as “a resounding triumph” (The Australian) and received standing ovations from capacity audiences.Palmer is married with three children and lives in Sydney. For more about George Palmer: George Palmer – Australian ComposerAbout me&my Health Up & Hostme&my Health Up seeks to enhance and enlighten the wellbeing of others. Even the most unexpected creatures, mundane and fantastic, offer up alliance if we are willing to sit and listen. In this LIVE talk we discuss: •What is the difference between an Ancestral Ally, Lifetime Ally, and Situational Ally? •How can I identify my Allies? •How can I work with my Allies? •How can I honor my Allies? About Casey Certain Casey Certain has felt deeply connected to the Blue Ridge Mountains of South Carolina since childhood and began welcoming the friendship and messages from the Animals since that time. Honing her skills through observation and education, she also works to collect and retell the Animals' cultural stories as they see fit. Her mission has been to aid in the universal process of learning, growing, and healing as we each acknowledge not only our own personal Divine existence but the Divine existence and connection of each and every other being. After serving youth who were from at-risk situations for seven years, Casey began to embrace her identity and role of not only teacher but healer in 2020. Working to explore, record, and share what the Animals, Plants, and Land wish to share and teach, she now offers private sessions and retreats as an Integrative Healing Arts Practitioner at her homestead in Walhalla, South Carolina, with her husband David. She is trained in hypnotherapy, meditation, breathwork, yoga, aromatherapy, auriculotherapy, among other modalities. Her great joy, however, is introducing individuals to the Animal Allies who have been working, and who wish to continue working, with them in order to bring balance to their healing journey. Her own journey is assisted most frequently by Rabbit, Blue Jay, Fox, Crow, and Black Snake. You can learn more about her homestead and healing arts practice at reidhomestead.com and find some of her recorded Animal Meditations on her Patreon Inner Certainty Healing Arts.
Ben and Jerry's (owned by Unilever corporation) performative corporate gestures. Milly yanks on the thread we're pulling out for you - that corporations shouldn't be the leaders of social movements (yes, even if it makes Israel mad). Jessica fills us in on the *massive* but largely hidden resistance to Line 3 -- Enbridge's pipeline expansion proposal that would carry oil from Alberta, Canada to Wisconsin, USA, through untouched wetlands, treaty territories, Mississippi headwaters and to the shores of Lake Superior (Enbridge is a Canadian company responsible for the largest inland oil spill in US history). And Shelly leads us in a post-mortem of the July 24th March for Medicare for All #M4M4ALL -- how did Neo-Nazis and anti-vaxxers infiltrate this national day of action and what can we learn from it? Merry Meet Again! We are back, and there's so much to share! Enter the Circle and get comfy, Witches, as we enter magickal season three of the Witchcast. Lucy discusses the healing power of listening and sharing, tackles some tricky esoteric questions about how we treat our physical selves and the power of being body positive, and shares how she stays grounded when compelling false narratives sweep through the spiritual communities. Lucy's been book-witching throughout the southern hemisphere summer so she shares her fave enchanting books from solstice season, wonders why she couldn't get through The Winx Saga, gets excited about a movie based on Sutton Hoo and old-school archeology, and delves into the legendary Paris fashion house who's based their latest collection around an arcane 15th century Tarot. Aaand there's a very ah-ha moment kind of story for Witches who've been paying attention to how the moon influences their sleep patterns – because yes, science is playing catch up – and the studies read like a magickal manuscript. Gorgeous pagan music this episode: Black Snake by Wendy Rule from the album Black Snake; Lughnasad by Damh the Bard from the album Herne's Apprenctice, and Into the Green by Spiral Dance from the Woman of the Earth album. So much love to all the Lucy Cavendish Patreon supporters, to all the lovely listeners who've written in, and to Producer Shayne for making Lucy's kitchen sound like a recording studio! And thankyou to all the Witchcast sponsors – Naomi Manouge at Primal Healing, Blue Angel Publishing, Kohli Tea (having a cuppa right now) and if you would like to become a sponsor of the Witchcast, just head to Lucy's Patreon page to see how to make this happen! When it comes to wealth, the world of storytelling is rather polarized. You're either the richest king there ever was, or the poorest peasant in the whole world. The two extremes make sense: fairytales often attempt to teach some sort of moral, and wealth is an easy tool for tackling topics like pride, humility, and charity. But even when you set aside the moralizing nature of storytelling, there's something about the poor Cinderellas, the scrappy Aladdins, and the many pennyless Jacks that makes us root for their success. We want the underdog to win. We want it to be possible to rise above our circumstances, to change what life gives us. We want the heart to mean more than the wallet. Of course, solving inequality is far more complicated than a fairy godmother waving her wand, and obviously not all class problems can be fixed with hard work and dedication. But there is a hope in these stories that can often get lost in our much more complicated reality: the hope that poverty won't have the last say on who we are and what we can do. Today, we're bringing you stories from Adam Booth, Kevin Carr, Milbre Burch, Jill Lamede, and Anne Shimojima about finding fulfilling life and love despite our circumstances. On today's episode, enjoy the following:Story Spotlight: “Roll-a-Rama” by Adam Booth on 210 (12:02)Storytime Pieces:“The Poor Gaiteiro” by Kevin Carr on King of the Pipers (13:19)“My Own Self” by Milbre Burch and Gay Ducey on Because I Said So: Stories About Mothers and Kids (6:38)“The Blue Fish” by Jill Lamede on Stories from the Tintagel Storyteller (5:18)“Revenge of the Black Snake” by Anne Shimojima (8:19)
Stir your cauldrons! Light the fire! And prepare to be intoxicated! This is a delicious episode full of inspiring ways to conjure up magick and desire in the kitchen. Lucy explores the real-life magick of the enchanting film Like Water for Chocolate (including the Maiden, Mother and Crone, spellworking with recipes and how to overcome hexes and curses and unwelcomespirits). She interviews Polixeni - The Sensual Chef about her love of magick, cooking with the Goddess and making every meal a rite of love and pleasure, and finally explores the warming, healing power of Cacao - and examines why this potent power food is having such a moment. With music by Wendy Rule, Spiral Dance and SJ Tucker, this Witchcast is a feast for the senses! Songs are Ereshkigal by Wendy Rule, from the album Black Snake, the Goddess and the Weaver by Spiral Dance, from the album Woman of the Earth, and Firebird's Child by SJ Tucker from the album Blessings.
