Bueno, HABER; recuperamos el gusto por desempolvar discos de antaño, hoy completamos la sagrada trilogía de Wire hablando de Chairs Missing y 154. ¿Cómo pasaron del racarraca punkarra a inventar los 80? Hit singles: nuh. Hit albums: nuh. Unusually charismatic singer? Unforgettable visual image? Brilliant band name? Nuh. Nuh. Nuh. So why, 46 years after they formed, are we talking about Wire? Pink Flag, Chairs Missing, 154 might sound like the opening line of a really good poem; it is, though, the list of albums – released between 1977 and '79 – which, despite making only the barest dent in the charts, remain among the most influential of the era. Beloved by everyone from Johnny Marr to Elastica, from REM to Henry Rollins to Sonic Youth, Wire are still, as Rolling Stone noted in 2017, ‘Punk's ultimate cult band'.       Spotify Playlist: https://open.spotify.com/user/1230971434/playlist/1VLiKVlWbrLbxvtAkCnGOD?si=-Oa7As9oSNWmfyNdQEz_cw

RockerMike and Rob discuss the band Wire. Wire are an English rock band, formed in London in October 1976 by Colin Newman (vocals, guitar), Graham Lewis (bass, vocals), Bruce Gilbert (guitar) and Robert Grey (drums). They were originally associated with the punk rock scene, appearing on The Roxy London WC2 album, and were later central to the development of post-punk, while their debut album Pink Flag was influential for hardcore punk. Wire are considered a definitive art punk and post-punk band, due to their richly detailed and atmospheric sound and obscure lyrical themes. They steadily developed from an early noise rock style to a more complex, structured sound involving increased use of guitar effects and synthesizers (1978's Chairs Missing and 1979's 154). The band gained a reputation for experimenting with song arrangements throughout its career. http://pinkflag.com/ https://www.rollingstone.com/music/music-features/wire-reflect-on-40-years-as-punks-ultimate-cult-band-128633/amp/ https://www.facebook.com/WIRE.pinkflag?__cmr=1&refsrc=deprecated&_rdr https://mobile.twitter.com/wirehq https://www.billboard.com/amp/articles/columns/rock/8462176/wire-interview-reissues Please follow us on Youtube,Facebook,Instagram,Twitter,Patreon and at www.gettinglumpedup.com https://linktr.ee/RobRossi Get your T-shirt at https://www.prowrestlingtees.com/gettinglumpedup And https://www.bonfire.com/store/getting-lumped-up/ https://app.hashtag.expert/?fpr=roberto-rossi80 https://dc2bfnt-peyeewd4slt50d2x1b.hop.clickbank.net https://8bcded2xph1jdsb8mqp8th3y0n.hop.clickbank.net/?cbpage=nb Subscribe to the channel and hit the like button --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/rob-rossi/support https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/getting-lumped-up-with-rob-rossi/id1448899708 https://open.spotify.com/show/00ZWLZaYqQlJji1QSoEz7a https://www.patreon.com/Gettinglumpedup #punkstyle #punk #punkrock #punkfashion #punkgirl #punkmusic #punkhair #rockmusic #rock #rockstar #rockandroll #tokyorocknroll #rocknrollchurch #rockhound --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/rob-rossi/support

Why did I pick Wire's Pink Flag for the Three on the Ones and Twos Podcast episode?  For me personally this album came in multiple waves of progressing states of maturity for me to realize it's full potential - first excited by the upbeat aggro punk tracks as younger kid, then the pop and melodic sensibilities years later in high school, and then finally the dirgy lumbering heavy soundscape tracks which connected with me in my late teens. Essentially, the record follows its own path of musical development and maturity that mirrors somewhat of my own path of personal musical appreciation and expression growing up but inside a single record -a snapshot of a brief moment of some kids making noise and looking for a new way to express themselves back in 1976/77 In the aggregate, Wire, who really were never a punk band by most measures, managed to create a masterpiece punk record that defined most every genre of punk to come (from pop, hardcore, anarcho, garage, sludge, doom, art, and melodic punk)  and on that same record also began defining a post-punk sound before post punk was yet a thing. And within 9 months of the release of Pink Flag they would  have departed the punk scene altogether with a genre defining post punk/art rock record "Chairs Missing" -which is a masterpiece in its own right and continued the personal musical arc for me.Further, I think it is likely the most influential (yet under the radar record) for the subsequent music landscape to come in our post 70s generations. It stands as a milestone of critical connective tissue between the songs of old and songs to come influenced by the weight of its accomplishments in the pivotal musical year of 1977. It's musical DNA is in experimentation, progression and moments -never standing still or hanging around long enough from song to song or album to album to get pinned down into a genre for long -Wire is about expression and exploration. Pink Flag stands as the quintessential complete punk and experimental record of 1977 -the year in which the musical world's axis tilted further than ever before.  And for many of us, that tilt in music defines more about our lives, our friends, our culture - than most anything else.I was dead sober when I wrote this.Lalala lala lalala lalala lalala ohh ohh last time now.....Brian Kincheloe

In lieu of a scheduled appearance by the entire Big Dipper ensemble (next week, come hell or high water), Rob and Barry make haste not waste and deliver an episode about a monolith of underground music, Wire’s debut, “Pink Flag.” The list of luminaries (and lesser lights) who have copped to stealing wholesale from this treasure trove of ideas would fill the rest of this page. Brief songs touching on politics, sexuality and boredom are given a buff and shine by genius producer Mike Thorne, who copped to calming Wire's uptight art school nerves with a “jar of homegrown.” Whatever the method, the results stand on their own in this first of Wire’s trilogy of landmarks (Pink Flag-1977, Chairs Missing-1978, 154-1979). It’s 21 songs in 35:19 – all killer no filler. Become a patron of That Record Got Me High: https://www.patreon.com/join/TRGMH?

On today's episode I talk to musicians Colin Newman and Malka Spigel. Married since 1986, Colin and Malka are a post-punk power couple. Colin is a member of the seminal post-punk band Wire, whose early albums Pink Flag, Chairs Missing and 154 were the blueprints for decades of music. And Colin continues to be a vibrant creative voice with his solo albums, and his work with his wife Malka in Githead and Immersion. Before her collaborations with Colin, Malka was a member of the influential European rock band Minimal Compact, who released numerous albums in the 1980s on Crammed Discs. Immersion's latest album Sleepless was just released, and it is wonderful! This is the website for Beginnings, subscribe on Apple Podcasts, follow me on Twitter.
