Much older men have dated much younger women since time immemorial, but should it feel inappropriate when the younger women in question are over the age of consent, but not yet 18? Dating educator, social worker, and podcaster Lalala Let Me Explain wants to end the “unwise but not illegal” defence used by grown adults entering relationships with young people who are above the age of consent but not yet eligible to vote. Having joined forces with campaigner Poppy Mason to launch Close the Consent Gap, a campaign aimed at making such relationships illegal, she chats to Jen about it, and the harm that such power imbalances can cause. (To Sir with love). Boom Bang A Bang.
Midnighters, this one moves with intent. The set opens with Kasablanca and Township Rebellion's It's Chemical on MAHOOL, exactly the kind of statement we needed to start. Charlotte de Witte's Amor with CERES on KNTXT follows, and Karla Blum's The Only One on Arcane Music keeps the grip tight.Through the middle: Adam Beyer with Mark Reeve on Drumcode, EDRDO's Innocence Is a Myth, Diego Amaro, and Paul Tognelli's Take Control on Mainground. Stephan Dodevsky's rework of Jeff Mills' The Bells lands at the halfway point, a classic for those of us who remember the original. The closing stretch is where this one earns its place. Norvis and Anna May on Animarum, Demon Noise with Lautaro Ibañez, Amber Broos's Chicks, Alex Farell with MXGN on HEKATE, and Giorgia Angiuli's Sanamos Bailando. The set closes on Marie Vaunt and Deborah de Luca with Lalala, exactly the finish I wanted to share with you this week.Full tracklist and players here: https://www.1001tracklists.com/source/80bhhv/the-midnight-project/index.htmlTwo days from now, the first Rooftop Session begins at the Tomorrowland Store Ibiza. Initially, this was supposed to be an entirely different episode altogether. I had somehow managed to convince myself that we hadn't done The Three Pigs by David Wiesner on this podcast before. In truth? We did that precise book on May 13, 2024 (so, yeah, not actually all that long ago). My bad, folks. My bad. In a pinch we had to find a replacement and, because Kate is now mother to a small child, we had title on hand that (A) I love and (B) we've never done before. We discuss this teeny tiny board book which, we would like to point out, ALSO has three pigs on the cover! It was fate to do this title. For the second time this year, Alberta's UCP government is lowering the barriers for citizen-led referendum questions while also stripping the Chief Electoral Officer of many powers. This week on West of Centre, host Kathleen Petty is joined by CBC writer and producer Jason Markusoff; Globe and Mail reporter Matthew Scace; and pollster and political analyst Janet Brown. As the UCP tinkers with its legislation yet again, Brown wonders, did the provincial government not think this legislation all the way through? As Scace points out, the new legislation would allow a proposed referendum question to contravene the Canadian Constitution. The province says it is ‘restoring confidence in democratic processes'. To Markusoff, it's the ‘La-La-La We Can't Hear You' Act of 2025.And again, the panel is divided on the possibility of an early election next year in Alberta. But Brown, who for the past year has staunchly argued Premier Danielle Smith won't pull the trigger before fall of 2027, has come around to the possibility that Smith is oiling the mechanism. Archie is joined by Tom, Dan and James from One Team In Devon to unpack initial thoughts on the return of Derek Adams.Nostalgia aplenty, the panel discuss whether Argyle's pivot is a shift back in model, while weighing up the benefits and risks in the short term and the long term of placing faith once again in Adams, who had great success but also a fall from grace when last employed in PL2.The guys also discuss how the arrival of Adams reshapes relationships and responsibilities within the club, notably with Tom Cleverley and David Fox, who have not (yet) been asked to walk the plank.https://oneteamindevon.substack.com/ Any contribution towards running costs is always welcome:https://ko-fi.com/pilgrimspodcast Hosted on Acast. As we approach the 70th anniversary of the Eurovision Song Contest, it's fun to take a look at how the ESC was viewed just 10 years ago - some songs remain as classic as ever, while some songs aren't nearly as beloved as they once were (cough_Believe_cough). But Graham Norton and Petra Mede give us a rollicking 90 minutes of ESC hits, and we ain't complaining. Jeremy finally counts himself as a denizen of the Forest, Dimitry has strong feelings about one particular winner's return, and Oscar rediscovers an early 21st century gem from France.Watch Eurovision's Greatest Hits here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ceireJeEwwVisit the archived website for the show here: https://web.archive.org/web/20150406071646/http://60th.eurovision.tv/Watch Electro Velvet's pre-show performance here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1iCwAUVTVdMThis week's companion playlist: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/6bSicY5EAEgPCQ3NhnB96x The Eurovangelists are Jeremy Bent, Oscar Montoya and Dimitry Pompée.The theme was arranged and recorded by Cody McCorry and Faye Fadem, and the logo was designed by Tom Deja.Production support for this show was provided by the Maximum Fun network. The show is edited by Jeremy Bent with audio mixing help was courtesy of Shane O'Connell.Find Eurovangelists on social media as @eurovangelists on Instagram and @eurovangelists.com on Bluesky, or send us an email at eurovangelists@gmail.com. The Queen of Board Books is in the house! I would argue that to be the board book king or queen, you need to work primarily in the genre of board book. And Sandra Boynton is that queen. Fight me. Now I agree that Moo, Baa, La La La might have been a better book to do today, but don't worry. We'll get to it eventually. Today, we look at one of my favorite Boyntons. It has everything! Running around! Evening exercise! Hidden pigs! We discuss the role of bedtime books for small children and whether or not it's fair to slot this book in with titles that are solely meant to lull your child into unconsciousness. The Stop Shopping Choir is in full-throated radical voice. Savitri D, our leader, can be anywhere in the hall, up on the balcony, pulling pianists out of the kitchen, marching the singers up the aisle toward the nine songs of liberation from fascism. We are crafting songs and screams to fit the architecture of our new home, which is historically better acquainted with silence: the Quaker Meeting House of Manhattan, a beautiful space. They want their quaking back, and we want to do our part. We are teaching our audience a new enlightenment exercise, which we invented, called FLOPPY YOGA. Wow! See you next Sunday, June 8th, at 6 pm at the Quaker Meeting House, 15 Rutherford Street, located at the corner of 15th Street, between 2nd and 3rd Avenues, east of Union Square, 2 blocks away. Sylvester grew up in Marin County, on the doorstep of San Francisco. It was a nurturing community for a high-school punk with a pompadour and, later, for a sober songwriter with a proclivity for moody psychedelia. But he wanted to be challenged and inspired by a new setting and scenario around strangers who prompted him to approach his music in unexpected ways. So in September 2020, as the world continued to reel in lockdown, Sylvester headed several hours south to Los Angeles, a city that, despite the relative proximity, the film buff knew largely from classic and cult films situated there. When he arrived, he kept digging into that cinematic past—Robert Altman's The Long Goodbye, with John Williams' classic theme, or classic 90s movies about East LA, many featuring Edward James Olmos. They shaped his understanding of his new town just as it began to open. This is one pillar of the multivalent and endlessly lush La La La, Marinero's new album about sobriety, identity, and fantasy that is playfully named both for the city that helped shape it and the sophisticated pop it contains. Sylvester wrote about characters outside of himself, whether considering the heroine reckoning with her own version of keeping clean or the screenwriters whose work was deemed communist simply as a political convenience. He linked those songs with motivational anthems about self-acceptance and playful numbers about flirting through food, shaping a 12-song set rich with humor, empathy, and encouragement."
