Susan Reade got her start in Edmonton radio wearing an orange Tina Turner wig and leopard-print pants as CHED's “Janet from Another Planet.” As she prepares to retire from Stingray, I catch up with her to talk about a career that took her from the morning show to sales and leadership—and why she still believes in radio.Susan shares how a difficult experience as a talk show producer in Vancouver led to selling postage meters at Pitney Bowes. The sales training was valuable; the passion for postage wasn't there. A chance encounter with former colleague Mike Bowman helped her connect the dots between what she loved and what she was good at. Today on another encore edition of the Rarified Heir Podcast, we are talking to musician Jamie Perrett, son of Peter Perrett from the band The Only Ones, of the first wave of English punk rock circa 1976. To say Jamie was open and honest would be an understatement. He was brutally honest. Perhaps more so than any other guest we've had on the podcast. It's our 100th episode! We have a bumper edition this week to celebrate with a somewhat eclectic triple feature (as is our wont). Mike White and Sammy join us to discuss Sisters (1972), directed by Brian De Palma, The Brother from Another Planet (1984), directed by John Sayles, and Twins of Evil (1971), directed by John Hough. A sadly still very relevant critique of intolerance and division in the USA wedged between two lurid but very different tales riffing on the horror of psychological duality - there's so much to discuss and we duly do just that in our longest episode to date. Never fear though - it's all killer, no filler! We manage to get deep into The Brother From Another Planet without really spoiling it, and although we do discuss the ending of Twins of Evil, plot is not really the point of most Hammer horror and this is no exception.
