At the age of nine, Hannah launched her blog, Call Me Hannah, to share her growing concern for environmental issues and show that small, everyday actions can lead to big change. Today, at 17-years-old, she has emerged as an activist, impassioned public speaker and author. Hannah uses her voice and platform to motivate and empower people of all ages to identify their passion and take action for a better world. “I believe we all have the capacity and responsibility to create change. I don’t care how old you are, how young you are, where you live or how much money you have. The ability to create change does not discriminate; it’s in everyone.” — Hannah Alper. Just as Hannah does not limit herself to one issue or platform, she is not bound geographically. While she calls Toronto home, she has travelled across North America over 35 WE Day shows and delivered keynote presentations at schools, conferences and corporations. Her passion for community and desire to be fully engaged drew her to spend time in Kenya with ME to WE and Costa Rica with National Geographic. Nothing inspires Hannah more than her peers who answer their own calls to action, and she surrounded herself with them as she participated in the Teen Vogue Summits in Los Angeles and New York City. In November 2017, Hannah released her book, Momentus: Small Acts, Big Change, based on her conviction that one person, one action, one moment can make a difference. Through sharing her own journey and stories from her role models, Hannah provides tangible, real-life, and current examples that back up this idea. This book is more than a “how-to” guide; it gets to the heart of what sparks people to create change. Momentus features 19 exclusive interviews with activists, youth change-makers, and celebrities such as Malala Yousafzai (Nobel Peace Prize Winner), Lilly Singh a.k.a. Superwoman (YouTube Creator and author), and Blake Mycoskie (Founder and Chief Shoe Giver, TOMS), the book highlights practical examples of the power of positive change in the world, whether large or small. Hannah lives just outside Toronto with her parents and two dogs and is a local public school student. You can find her sipping on frozen hot chocolates with her friends at the local cafe or on Twitter and Instagram; she’s @ThatHannahAlper. ------ Want access to the free High Performing Student minicourse? ->www.samdemma.com/hps-minicourse Want to win $500? Blake Mycoskie is the Founder and Chief Shoe Giver of TOMS, and the person behind the idea of One for One®, a business model that helps a person in need with every product purchased. A simple idea has grown into a global movement: TOMS Shoes has provided over 86 million pairs of shoes to children since 2006, TOMS Eyewear has restored sight to over 600,000 people since 2011 and TOMS Roasting Company has helped provide over 600,000 weeks of safe water since launching in 2014. In 2015, TOMS Bag Collection was founded with the mission to help provide training for skilled birth attendants and distribute birth kits containing items that help a woman safely deliver her baby. As of 2016, TOMS has supported safe birth services for over 25,000 mothers. TOMS humble beginnings happened unintentionally. While traveling in Argentina in 2006, Blake witnessed the hardships faced by children growing up without shoes. His solution to the problem was simple, yet revolutionary: to create a for-profit business that was sustainable and not reliant on donations. If you have a purpose, you’ll have the passion you need to follow through. There is nothing more powerful. And it’s become a necessity- in today’s world, it’s difficult to be a successful entrepreneur unless you are connected to a greater good and you communicate that with others. Storytelling can be your greatest tool. On today’s episode of The School of Greatness, I talk about creating business with purpose with the creator of the One for One® model: Blake Mycoskie. As of 2016, TOMS has supported safe birth services for over 25,000 mothers. Before TOMS, Blake, a native of Texas who always had an entrepreneurial spirit, started five businesses. His first was a successful campus laundry service, which he later sold. Between business ventures, Blake competed in the CBS primetime series, The Amazing Race. With his sister, Paige, Blake traveled the world and came within minutes of winning the $1 million dollar grand prize. Blake is an avid reader and traveler. He is passionate about inspiring young people to help make tomorrow better, encouraging them to include giving in everything they do. His hope is to see a future full of social-minded businesses and consumers. Blake is passionate about using commerce to make money while creating social good.
