Greg Brady spoke with Bjorn Lomborg, who is a Danish political scientist, author, and the president of the think tank Copenhagen Consensus Centre. He discussed the Cop 29 Conference that just took place in Azerbaijan and how he feels developed nations have now resorted to bribing underdeveloped countries in order to get them to get on board with climate initiatives. He also discussed data surrounding electric vehicles and how he doesn't feel EV's are the future and explained their downfalls including how they aren't useful for the trucking industry and people who don't own a garage to charge them.  Next, David Piccini Ontario Minister of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development. Piccini spoke about having at least 2 million temporary residents here in Ontario and how Prime Minister Trudeau's policies have broken the public's faith in immigration. Piccini also explained a shift in making sure immigrants have a better skill set to help contribute to the Canadian economy. The Minister also talks about how the province is planning to introduce a job-protected leave of 16 weeks for people who adopt children or have kids through surrogacy. Also, Jon Burnside – Toronto city councilor. Burnside discussed Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow and how she is behind in addressing many issues affecting Toronto and specifically addressing anti-Semitic graffiti on the TTC. He also explained the power structure at Toronto city hall and who is really responsible for making policies and plenty more. Finally, Greg focused in on international students speaking out against, what they believe, is unfair treatment about the student Visas expiring and that they will have to leave Canada. Bjorn Lomborg is an author and political scientist who first came to international prominence for his book, The Skeptical Environmentalist. He is the president of the Copenhagen Consensus Centre. His new book, False Alarm: How Climate Change Panic Costs Us Trillions, Hurts the Poor, and Fails to Fix the Planet is available from July on Amazon. He says the real political challenges that will be faced in very poor developing countries will be the cost-benefit question of stamping out the virus versus having a virus that kills many people, and is very serious. He compares the costs and benefits of preventing deaths from HIV-AIDS in Malawi where an estimated 4000 people could be saved from HIV AIDS for every one saved from coronavirus. Bjorn believes a moderate lockdown probably makes more sense in the rich world compared to an extreme lockdown, which would be much more costly and probably won't save many more people --although it may turn out to be the right policy in New Zealand as a remote island. But if we don't have a difficult conversation about costs and benefits of the choices we face, that doesn't mean priorities and choices go away.

The world's governments have picked 169 well-meaning targets, promising everything to everyone. But too many targets mean no priorities. The Copenhagen Consensus Centre has looked into the data and found the targets that would do the most good. While participants at the World Economic Forum just voted the top global risk to be extreme weather, most of the rest of the world wants us to concentrate on the many other problems that cause much more damage than global warming. They point to the immense challenges within health, education, nutrition and corruption - issues, that are much less costly and easier to fix. Dr Lomborg worked with fifty teams of the world's top economists and several Nobel Laureates to look at where the world can do the most good for every dollar spent. Bjorn Lomborg presents some of the best investment options for humanity — and discuss how we can avoid some of the worst. ________________________ Check out the CIS at - https://www.cis.org.au/ Support us with a tax-deductible donation at - https://www.cis.org.au/donate/ Join the CIS as a member at - https://www.cis.org.au/join-cis/ Twitter - twitter.com/cisoz Facebook - facebook.com/CentreIndependentStudies/ Linkedin - au.linkedin.com/company/the-centre-for-independent-studies
