Interview bias takes many forms, from affinity bias to accent bias and with most biases we can be totally unaware that we are making them and the results will affect the candidate, the interviewer and the employer. Talking to James this week is Michael Blakley, founder of Equitas. Michael discusses how to be conscious of biases during the interview process and the part that technology now plays in creating an anti-bias interview. *Trigger warning Talks of mental health and suicide* Today's episode took me two attempts to record! I can't even blame technology for it either as I actually deleted the first recording myself! In today's episode I wanted to discuss how I recently hit 10k followers on Instagram and what that really means And the thing is... it doesn't mean a lot... it's just a number I speak about how before I would have equated my self-worth to things like likes or followers The tendency to think these numbers will change your life How it's not really a lot in the grand scheme of social media following That it's been a long journey to detach myself from these feelings I then speak about world suicide prevention day which is the day this episode goes out The guilt you can feel if you don't think "you have real problems" when you suffer from mental health The importance of reaching out to people if you are feeling this way and that as much as friends and family mean well sometimes you need a professional Checking in on friends and family when you haven't heard from them or even if you have just letting them know you're thinking about them Contacting charities who help people with mental health if you don't feel like you have anyone close to you I then come back to the 10k (did I mention I've 10k followers?) and things that I find will help if you are looking to grow your social media presence these are all also applicable to many areas of life. I finish by reminding people that you do matter and life is better with you in it. Maternity Returnees: Are Employers Doing Enough (Or Anything At All?) Maternity Leave is a policy most employers have in place, but what about Maternity Return? Most employers seem not to have any policy at all, leaving the experience of returning mothers mainly up to the line management, with predictably variable results! We're going to dive into an under discussed topic on what the current experience is like for Maternity Returnees, and what policies employers can produce to be truly inclusive for all members of the workforce. - What is the current legal status of Maternity Return? - What do most employers do? - What has been the experience (bad, ok, good) of maternity leave returners - What makes an experience this way? - Do we have standardisation or customisation? - What support do managers need to do better for returning workers? - Psychology: what are the common psychological challenges of returning to a team? - Re-onboarding rituals: does anyone do this? - Returning to lead: different from being a returning IC? - What recommendations do we have for returnees, and employers embracing returnees? All this and more on Brainfood Live On Air. We're with Kirsty Wigley-Smith, Senior Manager Talent Acquisition, (LogicMonitor) Heidi Wassini, Director, Global Talent Acquisition & Employer Branding (Too Good To Go), Kellie Nedelcoux, Founder (Career & Parenthood) & friends and on Friday 30th August, 2pm BST / 3pm CEST Follow the channel here (recommended) and click on the green button to register for this show. Have you ever felt underrepresented in the equine world? Perhaps you've noticed that women are often in less leadership positions in this sector... despite making up over 75% of participants in the sport?! In this episode, we're talking to someone who is part of an organisation looking to change that. Muireann O'Toole Brennan is Co-Founder and CMO of Equitas - an online publication standing for justice, fairness and equity for females in our industry. In this very thought-provoking episode, we're talking about: An introduction to Muireann, her work and her family The Equitas mission and why it is so important Flexibility and a skilled female workforce Toxic masculinity in some disciplines and the risk it poses to the workforce The delight of ex-racehorses, and the joy they can bring! The mental health epidemic happening in the equestrian world - and what Equitas are doing about it This was an absolutely incredible and honest conversation, with someone who - although always looks on the bright side of life(!) - is really championing some of the most serious topics we are faced with as equestrians. We were delighted to speak to Muireann and get her perspective. *Please note: Some of the topics we discuss in this episode some listeners may find challenging - including discussions around gender discrimination, sexual harassment, mental health and suicide. We advise listener discretion. --- Want to hear more from the Equestrian Mums Club? I've hummed and hawed about doing a podcast on this topic as I am by no means an expert in mental health... I can only speak about my own experiences So with that in mind this is me sharing my own thoughts on my own journey, especially over the last year... I just hit record and went so it may be a little chaotic (like myself) I speak about the guilt of feeling like you don't have "bad enough! problems in your life to be feeling how you do How healing is a journey and things don't go away you just learn to handle them better so you shouldn't beat yourself up when you have a bad day Therapy and how much of a difference it made to my life And maybe the most important thing... if you are struggling don't feel like you are a burden by reaching out it could make all the difference Also if you need someone to talk to don't be afraid to reach out to me even if you feel like it's nothing.. In this episode, EquiTeam's Liz Daniels chats to Muireann O Toole Brennan Co Founder and Head of Media at Equitas about inspiring a generation. As Muireann sobbed her way to a riding lesson early on in life, scared to ride, little did she know that the sisters who owned the stables would change, shape and inspire her future both in and out of the saddle – her first experience of truly supportive women working together. With a career steeped in many equestrian experiences, Muireann jumped at the opportunity to combine the two things she loved; writing and horses, as she recalls the emotions when her first article was published in the Grassroots Gazette. A few articles later and a meeting request with the ‘boss' left Muireann thinking that she might get fired, but she needn't have worried, it was the beginning of something really big – Equitas was born. Equitas is an inclusive online publication that opens conversations and supports the women in our industry bringing about change, with one of the most notable achievements being the recent rule change surrounding the compulsory wearing of white breeches for competition. An conversation oozing with passion, pride and admiration. Today we welcome Muireann O'Toole Brennan who is co-founder and CMO of Equitas to the Podcast Muireann comes in hot with some exclusive news on something that will be happening soon on Equitas! We then talk about how she started writing for The Grassroots Gazette and how wanting to combine her degree in journalism with horses brought her being a leader within Equitas We talk about what Equitas means to her and the impact it has had not only on the women in the equine industry but also on her We talk about how working with horses can become very isolating and lonely and this is why having a platform like this is so important That 73% of the industry is made of women so having a community like this was needed We then talk about Muireann herself and how she got into horses a love that never left her Of course we talk about her own horses including a heartwarming story about her first pony June How her parents were so supportive with whatever they wanted to do once they were willing to put in the work and that instilled a strong work ethic in them We also talk about when she became a cofounder and that she actually thought she was about to be fired, but you can hear in the way she speaks about Equitas she's in the right place We talk about how tough the industry is and how things are starting to change and it's starting to be acknowledged within the governing bodies to support staff We also touch on racing and the rep it has and Muirreann dispels some of the myths about it, the most common one being that horses are just thrown on the scrap heap if they don't make it We then speak about her horse Theo and how they are retrained when she gets a racehorse starting with giving them a good bit of time off That it's a slow process but you will get what you put into the horse How sometimes you just need someone to back you to help you believe in yourself If you are looking to keep up with Muireann you will find her on: Instagram: @lifeaftertheyard And Theo has his own Instagram: @lifewiththeo If you are interested in working with me you can find me : Equestrian Instagram: @stronginthesaddle_ Equestrian Tiktok: @ stronginthesaddle Happy Hips for horseriding PDF: https://landing.mailerlite.com/webforms/landing/b4y0n6 Website: www.chrissyhawkins.com Instagram: @chrissyhfitness Want my FREE Kickstarter workout guide? Today I speak to Sarah Elebert, She is a co-founder of women's equine media brand, COO of Envious Dresshire and mother too to beautiful girls We talk about Equitas and the need for a brand like it for women in the industry and to bring equity to them That the differences in physiology between men and women need to be acknowledged We talk about the "Why can't we?" campaign and the importance of educating people on how traditional uniforms can push people out of the sport This campaign has led some governing bodies in the equine industry to change the rules on competition and allow dark jodhpurs to be worn We also discuss how the majority of people working and contributing to the industry are women and that that needs acknowledgement We then speak about envious dress hire and how it is more about just hiring out clothes but how style can make you feel That how many similarities she has found in the mindset and confidence of women and how it's affected by what they wear be it at an event or in a competition Sarah also talks about the "envious girl" and how they want them to feel when they wear their pieces That sometimes a style that you wouldn't normally pick for yourself can have you feeling like a boss and having someone like Nicola of Envious can be the difference We then move to motherhood and how Sarah navigates running these two companies while being a mother to two girls who are 2 and under That it is ok to ask for help and people want to help you so make use of it Sarah also has some great advice at the end of the podcast for those who are trying to do it all If you would like learn more about Equitsas or Evnvious you can find them: Equitas: Website: www.equitas.ie Instagram: @equitaseire Envious Dress hire: Instagram: @enviousstylinganddresshire If you are interested in working with me you can find me : Equestrian Instagram: @stronginthesaddle_ Equestrian Tiktok: @ stronginthesaddle Happy Hips for horseriding PDF: https://landing.mailerlite.com/webforms/landing/b4y0n6 Website: www.chrissyhawkins.com Instagram: @chrissyhfitness Want my FREE Kickstarter workout guide? Zoom - yes, that Zoom - has made an acquisition in the employment space and to say the boys have an opinion is an understatement. Will it be enough to fend off Microsoft, Salesforce, Google and others? So we're sayin' there's a chance, and I'll leave it at that. Then it's time for Buy-or-Sell with startups Loopin, Pera, and Equitas, which gets pretty ugly, not gonna lie. Lastly, “strategic autonomy” is something we should all add to our bandwidth as France's Emmanuel Macron talks about moving away from the United States and becoming a third superpower. It all ends up in a pretty animated, colorful episode. Enjoy.

Have you heard of the Grassroots Gazette? Or maybe Equitas? (if not you should check them out!) They are online magazines that are dedicated to getting coverage for the grassroots community in equestrian sports (Grassroots gazette) and for women in the equestrian industry (Equitas) Today I talk to Shane McCarthy who is the CEO of both magazines. We talk about where the idea for both magazines came from. Creating the fastest growing online equestrian media brand in Ireland and the UK. How coverage for the most significant areas of the Equestrian industry is often forgotten and how the team at these magazines are changing that. Always learning and being able to admit when you get something wrong. Keeping up with social media trends and how you can utilise them. We also got some exclusives that haven't even been released to the public yet! This episode had so much in it. Its hard to summarise and Shane spoke openly about his own journey, where he went wrong and how he learned from it all, it is a great episode for anyone who wants to start their own business and full of value. If you are involved in the equine industry you should check these out, and if you feel like you would like to write for either magazine do not hesitate to get in contact as they are a great team to work with! Equitas is more than a brand, it's a movement, created to empower, support and help women thrive and grow in the equine industry. Equitas is run by four fabulous people- Sarah Elebert (who's a Small & Supercharged Podcast veteran, Masterminder, all round good egg, new mum, coach and eventer), Sarah Campbell, Michael O'Flynn and Shane McCarthy. I had the pleasure of speaking to Shane and Sarah Elebert all about the idea behind Equitas, the vision for the future, and the HUGE amount of support this movement has had since it launched a few short weeks ago. To support and empower, Equitas distributes amazing content from contributors from all over the UK. It's a really exciting movement to follow. And here we find out all about it!
This weeks interview is with Sarah Elebert, Equestrian Online Coach and Eventer, though currently in her return to riding after childbirth, she's really enjoying dressage riding but can't wait for life to settle a little and be back to the eventing game. Sarah became a mother to her daughter Paige earlier this year and in becoming a Mum, she has been given her reason to co found "EQUITAS" a Women's Equestrian Magazine along side a strong team of equestrians who have strength and depth in the equestrian industry and want to promote empowering women as well as levelling the playing field for them with equality and support within their chosen industry. This week Josh and I have a question regarding children's sport and how to share out the who goes where and for how long equally! Please like rate and subscribe wherever you get your podcast and head over to Instagram @child.pony.sleep.repeat for polls, games and to see the much discussed Bob the Cob.

Today's episode brings together a trio of London Market leaders. Sheila Cameron is the CEO of the Lloyd's Market Association (the LMA) and was the guest on the very first Episode of the Voice of Insurance. Clyde Bernstein is the Head of Broking Technology at WTW, as well as being its Head of Broking in Great Britain. Clyde appeared in Episode 63, which was all about the broker of the future. Completing the line-up is someone who I have wanted to get on the show for a long time as he is a strong, really well-known exceptionally bright and eloquent executive who always has an interesting view of the market. Paul Jardine is an Actuary, the former Chief Actuary and Commutations Director of Lloyd's run-off vehicle Equitas and was one of Stephen Catlin's top executives for over 15 years. He currently has multiple interests, the most prominent of which is that of Non-executive Chairman of Lloyd's turnkey Managing Agency Asta. But what unites my three guests is that they are all members of the recently formed Data Council, chaired by Sheila, which has been brought together by overarching London trade body the London Market Group (LMG) to drive the digitisation of the Market. This episode gets to the heart of what the Data Council is and what it is tasked with doing It also dissects the Council's first major achievement which has been to codify the Core Data Record (or CDR) which will be the building block for making London Market contracts fully computable. Sheila, Clyde and Paul are a lively group and this podcast is a really good way to get up to speed for anyone who may sometimes find the reform process in the London Market difficult to follow. Enjoy the Podcast NOTES and THANKS Sheila used an abbreviation, the GRLC, which I should have clarified at the time. This stands for global digital insurance data standards body ACORD's Global Reinsurance and Large Commercial standard. There is also a mention of the Rushlikon Initiative, which is a longstanding global standards and process efficiency drive backed by ACORD, WTW, Swiss Re and many other major market participants. A show that will continue to bring awareness, educate the audience members, and benefit AIDS Resource Center, Equitas Health-Toledo: Jaymes talks to Stage Door about Stone Production's upcoming show In 1980s New York, a writer and his friends join forces to expose the truth about the emerging AIDs crisis to both the government and the gay community. During the early 1980s, Jewish-American writer and gay activist Ned Weeks struggles to pull together an organization focused on raising awareness about the fact that an unidentified disease is killing off an oddly specific group of people: gay men largely in New York City. Dr. Emma Brookner, a physician and survivor of polio, as a consequence of which she is using a wheelchair, is the most experienced with this strange new outbreak and bemoans the lack of medical knowledge on the illness, encouraging the abstinence of gay men for their own safety, since it is unknown yet even how the disease is spread. Ned, a patient and friend of Brookner, calls upon his lawyer brother, Ben, to help fund his crisis organization; however, Ben's attitude toward his brother is to give merely passive support, ultimately exposing his apparent homophobia. For the first time in his life, meanwhile, Ned falls in love, beginning a relationship with New York Times writer Felix Turner. The Normal Heart: Stone Productions April 22nd-24th The Collingwood Arts Center A searing drama about public and private indifference to the AIDS plague in the 1980's and one man's lonely fight to awaken the world to the crisis. Produced to acclaim in New York, London and Los Angeles, The Normal Heart follows Ned Weeks, a gay activist enraged at the indifference of public officials and the gay community.

On this episode we are going to focus on how healthcare providers have had to pivot during the coronavirus pandemic, and what that means for the communities they serve. Today we will be talking with the COO of Equitas Health, which is a federally designated community health center that serves communities in over 13 cities, reaching people in Ohio, Kentucky, and West Virginia. We live in an era of empowered patients, and technology is a huge diver for people to be more proactive with their health - when they have access to it. More people are using wearables to gather their own biometrics and data and then having conversations with their providers around that data, and many of us have more access to medical knowledge than ever before. We're here talking about what that means for now, and what is coming next.

The Roy Green Show Podcast Remembrance Day Special Ted Barris is an author of numerous books on the Canadian military and war. He joins Roy to discuss our country's military history, how Canadians impacted WWI, and the often forgotten role Canadian soldiers played in the Korean War. Countless Canadian military veterans live with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, which was once known as “shellshock” in WWI. Support for these veterans and their caregivers is severely lacking. Our guest Jenny Migneault has battled for “the identity and the dignity of caregivers of wounded veterans.” The Afghani translator known as “Left Behind Alex” is one of the many of translators whose life is in danger after helping Canadian forces combat the Taliban. He, like the others, was integral in helping members of the Canadian forces to survive in so many ways. Yet because Sajad missed the small window of opportunity for immigration, he is now stuck in Afghanistan where he is hunted by the Taliban. On June 2, 2008, during his second tour of duty in Afghanistan, Major Campbell lost both of his legs to a target IED in a Taliban attack. He travelled for two hours via helicopter without any pain medication to a field surgical hospital where he was treated for his extensive injuries, and had to be resuscitated on the operating table. Major Campbell now joins Roy to discuss his life before and after the war. Canadians call in and share their stories, and their family stories, of military service. Guests: Ted Barris, Canadian author of numerous books on the Canadan military and war. Jenny Migneault, “Left Behind Alex,” Afghan interpreter who worked with Canadian forces but is unable to immigrate to safety James Akam, Afghan interpreter who was able to immigrate Canada, now worries about his fellow interpreters who have been left behind Major Mark Cambell, PPCLI, decorated regular forces infantry soldier with 32 years of service in the Canadian Forces See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

For many military veterans who fought for Canada, surviving on a day-to-day basis back home is a challenge they hadn't anticipated. Often, they endure battles with mental health issues like PTSD, suffer from the lasting scars of severe wounds or – in far too many cases – end up homeless. Meanwhile, Justin Trudeau told a town hall meeting that Canada's veterans are “asking for more than we can give right now”. The Equitas Society has organized the first annual Canadian Walk for Veterans, which will be held in cities across Canada on June 3, 2018. It's an opportunity to learn the stories of veterans and foster a connection between the public and Canada's war wounded. The Roy Green Show Veterans Affairs Canada is boasting about the great support the Trudeau government is providing Canada's military veterans, particularly those who are wounded and injured. However, the veterans involved with the Equitas lawsuit - which sought to restore and protect disability pensions and benefits for veterans but was struck down late last year – would likely disagree with this assessment. After all, when asked about the Equitas lawsuit during one of his town halls earlier this year, the prime minister said, "Why are we still fighting certain veterans groups in court? Because they're asking for more than we are able to give right now." Guest: Major Mark Campbell, PPCLI, lost both legs to an IED attack in Afghanistan, member of the Equitas lawsuit - Justin Trudeau‘s government is being pushed by backbenchers and grassroots Liberals to decriminalize all illicit drugs, adopting a model similar to that used in Portugal where the emphasis is on getting drug users into treatment. However, Trudeau is reportedly against the idea and Health Minister Ginette Petitpas Taylor says it would not work for a country like Canada. Guest: Bill Bogart. international expert on reducing the harm of risky behaviour, and author of ‘Off the Street: Legalizing Drugs' and 'Permit But Discourage: Regulating Excessive Consumption' - British Columbia and Alberta are exchanging threats over completion of the Trans Mountain pipeline, and Kinder Morgan appears set to pull out of the project. These actions have consequences for all of Canada but small towns are feeling them first. And while worldwide prices of oil are rising, and Canadians bicker over the economic boon of Canadian oil, there is still the issue of U.S. groups funding the disruption of the Trans Mountain Pipeline. In this episode I talk about the feelings I have as a Canadian Veteran. Sometimes the concept of calling myself a "veteran" feels like such a strange concept, mostly because of how young I am. I am part of the younger generation of men and women who have been to more warzones than I can name. I am so proud to call myself a veteran, and if you are one, you should too. I offer no solutions for the Veteran community, the political climate in this country surrounding verterans and benefits is completely mind boggling, and whether you support what veterans are after or not, I encourage you to see what Equitas is figting for and Google the recent town hall meeting events in Edmonton with Prime Minister Trudeau, to shed some light on what vets across Canada are fighting for. However I do have some advice for all veterans, be the hard-working Canadian citizens that you so proudly were while in service, show the civilian population how much we have to offer. Lead from the front.
