Brian and Sam sit down and talk with Mark Russell, creator and writer of the comic book Second Coming. Second Coming, published by Ahoy Comics, is the story of Jesus Christ, returning to earth to live with Sunstar, a nigh invulnerable superhero, and his girlfriend Sheila, a smart television reporter. Originally set to publish with DC's Vertigo label, controversy arose and Second Coming ultimately landed with Ahoy Comics (https://www.comicsahoy.com/comics). Welcome to the 19th episode of Genre Equality - a monthly podcast dedicated to discussing all things on the geekier side of pop culture. From horror and fantasy to superheroes and sci-fi - we got you covered. Although this summer blockbuster season has been a bust, it did give us one truly great addition to a beloved animation franchise, and a royal kaiju rumble. Over in TV land, we review a delightfully twee fantasy-comedy, the return of a techno-phobic anthology, a kawaii-metalcore anime, a dense German time-travel series, and the last hurrah for MCU's Netflix universe. In addition we also discuss Ted Chiang's brilliant sci-fi short story collection entitled Exhalation, and the closure of DC's Vertigo imprint. (Topics and time stamps in the Mixcloud playlist or comments below.)
We say goodbye to DC's Vertigo, discuss those Swamp-Thing movie rumours now that the series has been cancelled, look at whether JJ Abrams' son has skipped the comics line and Dav reviews Brightburn. Also! Our pull list looks at Batman Damned, Cult of Carnage, The Immortal Hulk (of course) and Fearscape.

In this episode, Wendi has a very candid and outspoken conversation with the "Viceroy of Canadian Comics", Richard Pace. He and writer Mark Russell are the co-creators of "Second Coming", a political satire comic about Jesus Christ living with a superhero. Originally to be released through DC's Vertigo imprint, it was dropped and will now be put out by Ahoy Comics. Pace discusses the outrage surrounding the book, working on "Pitt" and being part of the 90s Image era, a different insight of the speculator market of the time and what is wrong with the "Game of Thrones" fandom. Don't forget you can buy some super cool "Double Page Spread" merch with the Lil Cappy or Lil Dreddy logos at www.doublepagespread.threadless.com Brought to you by www.blackphoenixalchemylab.com where you can dabble in their new beard oils based on "Hellboy"! This episode is entirely consumed by a discussion of The Sandman, volume 1: Preludes & Nocturnes by Neil Gaiman, Sam Keith, Mike Dringenberg, Malcolm Jones III, and Dave McKean. Heads up: Nate makes several mistakes in this episode. These mistakes include, repeatedly referring to DC's Vertigo imprint as Image and saying that Gardner Fox created the Silver-Age Flash when it was Robert Kanigher and Carmine Infantino. He has been exiled to the Great Pacific Garbage Patch so he may atone for his info crimes. Theme Music: 10 by HOME
Chris (@AceComics) and Reggie (@reggiereggie) conclude their history of Underground Comix, by now arguably not underground at all! We talk about the histories of Marvel's Epic imprint and DC's Vertigo imprint, and then go on to talk about the final frontier of underground comics today: the internet. We also describe minicomics and ashcans, give a nod to Steve Ditko, and talk about dirty comic books from the back of the shop! It's sure to be a mixed bag of leftover information that didn't quite fit anywhere else in the series. Enjoy! weirdcomicshistory@gmail.com chrisandreggie.podbean.com Break snipped: Levi's 501 "Button Your Fly" commercial from 1990, directed by Spike Lee, starring Rob Liefeld TAGS: comic book history, underground comix, Epic Comics, Vertigo, webcomics, minicomics, ashcans, Steve Ditko, Cherry Poptart, Omaha the Cat Dancer, Doujinshi, lolicon, manga

Cast and producers were in attendance and we chatted with Rose McIver, David Anders, Malcolm Goodwin, Robert Buckley, Rob Thomas and Diane Ruggiero-Wright. The show is loosely based on the comic series from DC's Vertigo imprint that lasted 28 issues. Interesting changes to the story for the TV show and it sounds like it'll be a fun ride!
