Have a Nashville hot chicken sandwich with Robert Greenberger as we discuss our teen experiences at the first Star Trek convention in 1972, how TV taught him about the existence of Marvel Comics, the way George Reeves as Clark Kent made him want to be a journalist, the lecture Wonder Woman editor Robert Kanigher gave him after he dared give feedback, why so many DC Comics staffers walked around without their shoes on Fridays, how he convinced Cable News to launch Comic Scene magazine, the convoluted way Denny O'Neil was responsible for him becoming Len Wein and Marv Wolfman's assistant, how his editing of Star Trek comics led to his writing Star Trek fiction, the differences he saw in corporate culture while working at both Marvel and DC, what Clark Kent would have thought of his gig at the Weekly World News, and much more.

Welcome to Multiverse News, Your source for Information about all your favorite fictional universes. It wasn't quite the box office battle Hollywood wanted it to be this weekend with Wicked and Gladiator II going toe to toe in movie theaters. The musical movie adaptation soared with a nearly $114 million domestic opening, making it the biggest premiere ever for a Broadway movie adaptation. Into the Woods previously held that title, opening to just $31 million in 2014. Internationally, Wicked raked in an additional $50.2 million giving it a total opening of $164 million. While Gladiator II limped behind the musical phenomenon domestically, opening to $55.5 million, it succeeded in the international market to the tune of $165.5 million and overtook Wicked's worldwide box office significantly due to opening one week earlier internationally. The Blonde Bond himself, Daniel Craig, is a potential star for the feature film Sgt. Rock, which is in early development with DC Studios. While nothing is known about the plot, the character first appeared in comics in 1959 as a World War II soldier and was created by Robert Kanigher and Joe Kubert. Challengers director Luca Guadagnino is set to direct and his screenwriting collaborator on both Challengers and upcoming film Queer, Justin Kurtizkes, will pen the script. In a deleted scene from Season 2 of Loki — part of an impending 4K UHD Blu-ray release — Loki recalls just how many people said Loki was a problem while talking with his friend Mobius over slices of key lime pie. After listing many names, Loki also brings up two villains from Marvel comics that audiences have not yet encountered in the MCU. The first is Amora, also known as Enchantress and the second is Absorbing Man, who began life as a boxer named Carl Creel, a character seen in Agents of Shield, — until Loki poisons him with an elixir that gives him the ability to transform his body into the quality of anything he touches. At the very end, Loki also brings up Hercules, who appeared in a post credits scene of Thor: Love and Thunder. Disney and Lucasfilm have revealed that animated anthology series Star Wars: Visions is coming back for a third volume in 2025. A new teaser has been released for Noah Hawley's upcoming Alien franchise series titled Alien: Earth that confirms the series will arrive in the summer of 2025 on FX and Hulu. Deadline has confirmed that Suits spinoff series Suits: LA will feature the return of Gabriel Macht who played Harvey Specter on the original series in a limited reprisal of his role that is being described as a three episode arc. Robert Pattinson and Charlize Theron have both joined the cast of Christopher Nolan's upcoming untitled film. They join Tom Holland, Zendaya, Anne Hathaway, Lupita Nyong'o, and Matt Damon. Banijay Rights, the distributor for Netflix anthology series Black Mirror, has struck a deal with Neil Gibson's UK-based Twisted Comics to create comics based on several of the episodes of the series. Developer CD Projekt announced The Witcher 4 video game is now in full-scale production. Isabel May, best known for her role in Yellowstone prequel series 1883 and 1923, has joined the cast of Scream 7 and will play Neve Campbell's daughter. Samuel L. Jackson is in negotiations for a key role in J.J. Abrams' untitled feature at Warner Bros. He joins Jenna Ortega, Glen Powell, and Emma Mackey. In an interview about his upcoming voice role of Doctor Phosphorus in Creature Commandos, Alan Tudyk confirmed that he will also voice Clayface in the series. Tudyk also voices Clayface on Harley Quinn: The Animated Series and its spin-off Kite-Man: Hell Yeah!, but this version will be a new iteration of the character.
Fed up with being feared and despised by the civilians they protect, the Commandos jump at a chance to see if the world of 2943 holds an opportunity for them to return to their human states. It gets a little weird. And I believe this will be something that has endless possiblities for it. Comments are Welcomed Like The Video VENMO: @Brian-Walmer-2 #TheMetalMen #DCComics #WarnerAnimationGroup #WarnerBros #WAG #TheHollywoodReporter From The HR: "Animation legends Ron Clements and John Musker, the acclaimed team that spent decades at Disney making movies such as The Little Mermaid, Aladdin and The Princess and the Frog, are heading to DC. The duo have teamed up with Celeste Ballard, a writer who worked on Space Jam: A New Legacy, to tackle animated feature The Metal Men. Warner Animation Group is the home of the project, which is based on the longtime DC property. Clements and Musker are producing and have written the treatment for the film, which they are eyeing to direct. Craig Peck is executive producing. Allison Abbate, the former producer (The Iron Giant, The Corpse Bride) and now head of WAG, is shepherding the project for the studio. Based on DC Comics heroes created by Robert Kanigher and Ross Andru in 1962, the concept revolves around a brilliant scientist, William Magnus, and his creations: six highly advanced robots who have powers and personalities associated with their respective metals — gold, iron, lead, tin, mercury and platinum. The group had its own title in the 1960s and then made frequent appearances throughout the DC Universe in the ensuing decades. The stories have vacillated in tone from comedic to somber, with the group at times being on the run from government agents or even being robot assassins. The group sometimes incorporated a whole periodic table's worth of metal elements as new characters. The heroes made appearances in various animated series in the 1990s and 2000s, with Warners in the aughts trying to develop live-action takes that involved, at various points, X-Men producer Lauren Shuler Donner, writer and executive Geoff Johns, and Men in Black filmmaker Barry Sonnenfeld. Details of the new take were not revealed, but the medium of animation and Ballard's work on Space Jam may point to a direction. Ballard — repped by WME, Kaplan/Perrone Entertainment and Hansen Jacobson — also worked on the TBS comedy Wrecked and MTV's Sweet Vicious, with both featuring whip-snap and irreverent humor. Clements and Musker's vast CVs have seen them act as writers, directors and producers on some of the biggest and most influential Disney movies of all time, some featuring now-iconic princesses and song numbers, including the back-to-back hit of 1989's Little Mermaid and 1992's Aladdin, movies that led to the great Disney comeback in the 1990s. They were also behind 1997's Hercules, 2002's Treasure Planet, 2009's The Princess and the Frog and 2016's Moana. The involvement of the longtime pros is a coup for WAG, which is still in the fledgling stage of its animation output. The Warners unit will be leaning more heavily on the DC brand as it grows and next up has DC League of Super Pets hitting theaters in May 2022." --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/bwrosas/support

Hosts Mat Bradley-Tschirgi, Thrasher, and Alex Miller discuss the first film of the Suicide Squad duology. Bad guys help a rogue group commit morally ambiguous deeds to save the world in a convoluted fashion whilst predictable music drops accompany them. Starring Ike Barinholtz, Viola Davis, Margot Robbie & Will Smith. Based on the cult DC comics created by Robert Kanigher, Ross Andru, and John Ostrander, Suicide Squad has too complicated a plot for its own good. Such a thing is a bit of a risk when you have over half a dozen characters in the titular group (see also X-Men), but a long series of character intros before the main story gets started doesn't help things. An Academy Award winner for Best Makeup and Hairstyling, Suicide Squad makes some bold visual choices; some work (Harley Quinn), some don't (Joker). A grey boring desaturated color palette during the action scenes and a theatrical cut that is softer than what director David Ayer intended (no, the Extended Cut is not his director's cut, although it's a slight improvement) don't help things either. To misquote the late Leslie Neilsen from Spy Hard, Suicide Squad is "no Gouda!" David and Peter bring you TWO titanic tales of everybody's favourite Amazon Princess. First, they flashback to "The Master of Earth's Twin World", an early Parallel Earth story from Wonder Woman 89 before tackling the bizarre meta madness of "The End.. or the Beginning!" from Wonder Woman 158. Robert Kanigher has a lot to answer for! #wonderwoman #themaster #robertkanigher #harrygpeter #rossandru #dccomics #dcmultiverse #grantmorrison #metacomics
There's a LOT to talk about this episode as David and Peter bring you this bizarre tale from Wonder Woman 156. Robert Kanigher is making some big changes to our favourite Amazon Princess and it all starts HERE! As ever, our hosts retell the story, give their thoughts and most importantly for this issue, look at the reader feedback from the time it was published. #wonderwoman #robertkanigher #rossandru #mikeesposito #dcmultiverse #dcu

Sissy, who wouldn't know a comic book from a giant robotic Centaur, joins us to discuss Metal Men #19, one of the craziest comics we've ever seen (and that's saying something for mid-60s Robert Kanigher!) BTW don't panic, the Centaur is only robotic on the cover, turns out it's actually just your run-of-the-mill giant Centaur.

This episode is entirely consumed by a discussion of The Sandman, volume 1: Preludes & Nocturnes by Neil Gaiman, Sam Keith, Mike Dringenberg, Malcolm Jones III, and Dave McKean. Heads up: Nate makes several mistakes in this episode. These mistakes include, repeatedly referring to DC's Vertigo imprint as Image and saying that Gardner Fox created the Silver-Age Flash when it was Robert Kanigher and Carmine Infantino. He has been exiled to the Great Pacific Garbage Patch so he may atone for his info crimes. Theme Music: 10 by HOME

By special request of Toby Hagen from 42shadesofgeek.co.uk, Chris (@AceComics) and Reggie (@reggiereggie) read Superman's Girl Friend, Lois Lane #106 cover dated November, 1970, a story titled "I Am Curious (Black)!" In the comic book, Lois Lane turns African-American for 24 hours, and in the podcast, Chris and Reggie fumble through the issue and a partial history of black representation in comics. Podcast: The Mystery of Nubia By all indications, 2017 needs a podcast dedicated to Queen Hippolyta's "second," "other," "dark" daughter who debuted on November 7, 1972 in Wonder Woman #204, so we're "Introducing Nubia!" The soul sister of the Amazing Amazon went on to appearances in Wonder Woman #205-206, including a solo back-up story, plus cameos in Supergirl #9 and The Super Friends #25 before vanishing from comics entirely for twenty years (and actually closer to a quarter century if you discount a single page of one of those comics.) Despite barely escaping 1973 in comics, Nubia managed to make appearances on television and in toy form when that was an extremely rare accomplishment, and her origin has a massive impact on Wonder Woman's own. Nubia was a contender, and we argue that she still matters 45 years later on this episode! Nubia is one of the least heralded but most valuable creations of Robert Kanigher, and possibly his single most important contribution across twenty years as a writer/editor of the Amazing Amazon (depending on how much credit you extend him on Wonder Girl.) The world is still waiting for Nubia to be fully embraced as a key component of Amazonian lore! For more on Nubia, check out my 2012 article on her, newly revised with fresh scans to replace the busted embeds Comicvine left me with. Podcast: The Second Coming of Robert Kanigher This episode we look at the brief return of writer/editor Robert Kanigher to the Wonder Woman series following a campaign by Gloria Steinem to return the Amazing Amazon to her roots. Kanigher decided what that meant was that he could recycle his own decades old scripts, so we get to simultaneously cover 1973's Wonder Woman #207-208, but also the original presentations from Wonder Woman #37 (September-October 1949) #33 (January-February 1949) and #55 (September-October 1952) of "The Riddle Of The Chinese Mummy Case!" "The Four Dooms" and "The Chessmen of Doom" by Robert Kanigher, Harry G. Peter, Ric Estrada & Vince Colletta. Amertek Industries is a weapons manufacturer, tech conglomerate and defense contractor arguably best known for their biggest gun (literally and figuratively), the "Toastmaster" BG-80. Designed by John Henry Irons, their brutality turned him off of weapons-making and he left Amertek to go into hiding, taking on the name Henry Johnson. The guns would later make their way into the hands of street gangs in Metropolis and Washington, DC. Seeing his weapons on the streets, coupled with the then-recent death of his idol Superman, led Irons to take on the armored superhero identity of Steel. Ragman - In the show, Ragman's family was killed when the missile hit Havenrock. In the comics, Ragman is a Gotham-based vigilante who wears the mystical Suit of Souls, from which his powers come. Created by Robert Kanigher and Joe Kubert, Ragman has a bit of a Ghost Rider thing going on, with the costume allowing him to take the souls of the guilty -- except that in the case of Ragman, he can summon their abilities later in battle. By being used in this way, the evil can actually earn redemption and passage to Heaven. ARROW NEWS: Supergirl and Arrow Boss Says Ollie and Kara won't get along (Date: 11 Oct 2016) As per Andrew Kreisberg regarding the crossover “Part of Oliver's [Stephen Amell] journey in those episodes is he's kind of hit his breaking point for things he's willing to accept. He's had Mirakuru soldiers, the Lazarus Pit, magic, and Damien Darhk, but flying aliens who can incinerate you with their eyes is one beyond the pale for him. He's keeping his distance, which is a very Oliver thing to do. Even Kara comments, ‘Does he not like me?' Barry's like, ‘No, that's kind of how he treats everybody.' Link: http://screencrush.com/supergirl-arrow-crossover-oliver-reaction/ Guillermo del Toro has an open invite to direct Arrow (Date: 8 Oct 2016) del Toro teamed up with Arrow executive producer Marc Guggenheim for Trollhunters, a new animated series. Guggenheim was asked about NYCC if del Toro might appear to do an episode of Arrow. "I'd be lying if I said I never broached the topic with him," Guggenheim says. "He's so busy and he is filming right now actually up in Toronto." "He's got a standing invitation," Guggenheim concludes. Link: http://comicbook.com/2016/10/08/guillermo-del-toro-has-a-standing-invitation-to-arrow/ Arrow's Wild Dog to feature in DC/CW's Invasion crossover (Date:11 Oct 2016) Rick Gonzales, who plays Wild Dog, tweeted out a picture of his mask with the Flash's mask. It was later confirmed that Wild Dog will be part of the crossover event. The season started off with a dip in ratings, as the premiere episode averaged a 1.2 in the demographic and drew in 3.1 million viewers, which was down from 3.6 million in its season 2 premier Link:http://comicbook.com/2016/10/12/the-flashs-paradox-episode-hits-a-series-low/ Supergirl premier rockets CW ratings to 8-year high (Date: 11 Oct 2016) Supergirl premiere got 3 million viewers and a 1.1 18-49 demo rating. This episode is the most-watched Monday night show on the CW since a 2008 episode of “Gossip Girl.” On CBS, the season 1 finale drew in 6.1 million viewers and a 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demo Link:http://www.cbr.com/supergirl-premiere-rockets-cw-ratings-to-8-year-high/ Arrow Boss Teases Most Ambitious Crossover yet (Date: 13 Oct 2016) The arrival of the Dominators will force the Arrowverse's superheroes to team up for what Guggenheim calls their “most ambitious” crossover yet. “This year,” Guggenheim continues, “we're doing by far the most ambitious crossover we've ever done. It's basically a huge three-part story that also brings in Supergirl, so it's crossing over all four shows. It's telling one big epic movie of a story. It's not setting up any other spin-offs, it's just big, bombastic, huge action. There's also some really poignant character moments. There's a lot of plot lines, particularly I would say in Flash and Legends, that come to fruition in the crossover. It's by far the most ambitious thing we've ever attempted. I want to say it's by far one of the most ambitious things anyone in network television has ever attempted. It's completely insane.” Link:http://www.ew.com/article/2016/10/13/arrow-flash-supergirl-legends-crossover-spoilers Supergirl will not Move into the Flarrow ‘verse (Date: 8 Oct 2016) Fans had speculated and hoped that a move to the CW might unify Supergirl with the Flarrow universe during the upcoming crossover. Executive Producer Andrew Kreisberg explain how the jump will work saying "Not for her entire world, but Kara will be traveling from her dimension to our dimension, “our” being the world that The Flash, Arrow, and Legends lives in." Link: http://comicbook.com/2016/10/08/supergirl-will-not-be-moved-into-flash-arrow-and-legends-dimensi/ James Olson Becomes Guardian on Supergirl (Date: 12 Oct 2016) James Olsen (Mehcad Brooks) is about to make the move from faithful sidekick to kickass masked vigilante later this season on The CW'sSupergirl. Via Andrew Kresberg: “James has a pretty big turn coming up. These next few episodes are going to make him realize that being a photographer… is not enough for him, so he's going to go on a pretty exciting career trajectory that we're really pumped by. James is going to decide that he can no longer sit back and be a sidekick, so he's going to decide to become a vigilante and he's going to become Guardian — complete with the shield — which is going to cause a massive problem in his relationship with Kara [Melissa Benoist], because he has decided not to tell her. Now there's this new masked vigilante, and she has her own feelings about vigilantes, and it becomes a push and pull about who gets to decide who gets to be a hero? He's recruited Winn [Jeremy Jordan] to help him, Winn is his man in the van, so the two of them are doing this together. Winn and James together is comedy gold. Watching Winn, as he takes his job at the DEO, but then he's lying to everybody about how he's spending his nights, because he's going out with James, and how he walks in exhausted or walks in with a black eye and says he walked into a door, is the fun excitement of building these first 10 episodes.” Link: http://www.blastr.com/2016-10-12/james-olsen-become-dc-comics-vigilante-guardian-cws-supergirl Did Flashpoint create a future Legends of Tomorrow superhero? (Date: 13 Oct 2016) While Barry visited Felciity in this week's episode of The Flash, he learned that Diggle has a son now. Could this be the John Diggle, Jr. we met in the Legends episode called “Star City 2046”? Harley Quinn merece spin off, salva la película.

In the Phantom Stranger section of our Annual Cavalcade Spook Special, Robert Kanigher and Neal Adams collaborate on Phantom Stranger #4 to make our hero into a kicker of much mystical ass when his nemesis Tala makes her debut. Oh, and the Stranger feels the need to save four really stupid teenagers in spite of their idiocy. All this, plus Doc Thirteen gets glasses but remains an asshole.

DC is bringing back some of their classic war titles in a series of one shots. Known as the longtime home for The Losers, Our Fighting Forces told some of the most exciting war tales during its extensive run in the 70s. Writer B. Clay Moore tells us about his experiences in bringing Our Fighting Forces back for one last adventure. Drawing mostly from the original Robert Kanigher stories, he discusses what makes The Losers so interesting and the difficulties in getting everything he wanted into one issue. Listen in to hear how B. Clay Moore and his collaborators tried to recapture that for this single issue of Our Fighting Forces.
