Trinity - Mt 28:16-20 The Revd Dr Josephine Inkpin is an Anglican priest currently serving as Minister of Pitt Street Uniting Church in Sydney. Originally from England, she has worked in a wide variety of ministries in Australia and her native land, including for the National Council of Churches in Australia and as General Secretary of the NSW Ecumenical Council. Active in the campaign for the ordination of women, her doctorate was on first wave Christian feminism, and she has taught church history in theological colleges in Oxford University and Australia. She was the first out transgender woman to hold a mainstream church position in Australia, and is currently the chair of the Equal Voices ecumenical national network of LGBTIQ+ Christians and allies, as well as a member of Deloittes' Out50 Network. She has been married to a fellow Anglican priest for 35 years and has two children and three grandchildren.

I sat down with Steff Fenton (they/them, she /her) to talk about church - their experiences, hopes, and call. We also discuss fostering environments where folks can celebrate and explore their sexual and gender identity in conversation with their faith, non-hierarchical leadership, the Sydney church scene, and some of the big changes they hope to see in churches and theological study in the coming years. Steff Fenton is one of the founding Elders and the Associate Pastor of New City Church, a new faith community meeting on Gadigal land in Sydney’s Inner City. They also Co-Chair the Sydney Branch of Equal Voices, a group that connects and equips LGBTIQA+ people and allies across the Australian Church to be more safe and inclusive. They’re the Treasurer-Director of an NDIS-funded home for people with disabilities, called Charis House Co-operative. Through the week, you’ll find them chipping away at a Masters of Divinity at the University of Divinity, learning how to cook new vegan meals for friends, or playing board games. Natalie Cooper is co-chair of Equal Voices, a cross-denominational Christian group advocating for LGBTI rights within the church.
