During the first week of International Women's Month, Troy University is marking the occasion with its annual evening of Music and Poetry. And, Troy University is celebrating its 139th birthday with a huge party, and everyone's invited!
My guest this week is Ted Olson, professor of Appalachian Studies at East Tennessee State University.Ted joins me to celebrate the Rich-R-Tone record label and it's offshoot Folk Star. Rich-R-Tone was founded in 1946 by James Hobart Stanton who, in Ted's words, "was probably single-handedly the most important documentarian of Appalachian music."Ted has extensively researched Stanton and the Rich_R-Tone label for a project he co-produced for Bear Family Records - The Rich-R-Tone/Folk Star Story: Appalachia On Record, 1946-1954. Featuring 317 expertly remastered recordings spread over 12 CDs and including a 144-page hardcover book, this set, produced by Ted Olson, Matteo Ringressi, and Richard Weize, features newly researched liner notes and a complete discography. Many of these recordings are incredibly rare and are taken from 78 rpm discs held in private collections. We talk about Stanton's background in jukebox repair and distribution and how that helped shape his vision for the label; why both place and time are so vital in this particular story; the importance of Rich-R-Tone being a label based in Appalachia, rather than being a major label coming to the region just to record local talent and how Stanton played an important role in The Stanley Brothers' career. It's a fascinating story and one I knew very little about before my conversation with Ted, who was a pleasure to chat with as always.During the conversation we play excerpts of three tracks from the box set. You'll hear (in order):The Stanley Brothers - Molly and TenbrooksWilma Lee Cooper - The Tramp on the StreetThe Caudill Family - Ain't No Grave Gonna Hold My Body DownFor more info on the box set visit Bear Family RecordsTo hear my previous interviews with Ted, check out the two episodes below:The Bristol Sessions and BeyondDoc Watson's 100th Birthday Celebration (featuring Happy Traum, John McEuen from the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, T. Terrible Troy, Tara Hutchison and Cousin AJ as we celebrate Nasty Neal's 50th birthday!
In this candid Keep the Change update, I share what I've been up to over the past couple of weeks, from celebrating my 40th birthday with surprise parties and family getaways to a deeper appreciation of how both long and short life really is. I then dive into one of the biggest lessons from 20 years in business and investing: time is your greatest asset, and short term thinking leads to emotional, fear based decisions that can wipe people out. I reflect on my early Queensland property portfolio, what I learned from liquidating during my divorce, and why I have no regret, only perspective. We talk cycles too, why 2026 is the peak, why new entrants will see different short term results than long term holders, and why steady compounding over decades beats chasing quick wins. I also unpack why money and emotions don't mix, how I work with my own emotional authority, and why sowing seeds financially, physically, and personally requires patience. I share a behind the scenes look at my mindset work with Nathaly hypnosis, including a current challenge around believing in the permanence of wealth, plus what I've found genuinely effective for growth like the Demartini Method. I wrap with an update that I'm doing an AI course in February 2026, heading to Australia for a week, and will likely record more episodes soon, Also just a reminder to share the podcast and sign up for the summit below. 00:00 Welcome Back: Raw Audio, No Studio Needed01:20 Life Update: 40th Birthday Celebrations & Gratitude02:14 Life Is Long and Short: Time, Wealth, and Patience03:46 Lessons From Early Property Investing (and Letting Go of FOMO)04:57 Cycle Talk: Stop Chasing Quick Wins, Think Long-Term07:51 Money + Emotions Don't Mix: Sleep on Big Decisions09:22 Sowing Seeds: Why Growth (and Gains) Take Time10:09 Behind the Scenes: Self-Judgment, Mindset Work & Hypnosis12:48 Breaking the Pattern: Building Permanent Wealth (Ego Pushback)16:48 Coaches, Therapy, and What Actually Works (DiMartini Method)19:10 What's Next: AI Course, Australia Trip, and Final Notes Join the Women's Wealth Week Summit Hypnosis with Nathaly | Oracle If you're after some more goodiesI have a FREE 5-Day Mindset Reset for you called Wealthy Women WinYou can also follow me on Instagram

This episode of WAHNcast is a celebration of growth, community, and six years of building something powerful together. Angie Truitt, Vice President of Communications for the Women's Affordable Housing Network (WAHN), is joined by WAHN's CEO and President, Ashley Northcutt, to mark WAHN's birthday and reflect on how far the organization has come. From the early days of explaining that “WAHN isn't a person,” to sold-out national summits, national recognition through the Giving List, and a rapidly growing chapter network, this conversation captures the heart of what WAHN has become. Whether you've been part of WAHN from the beginning or are discovering it for the first time, this episode is a reminder of why this work matters and why it's better when we do it together.
For STUDIO's 4th Birthday Celebration, we welcomed back Julian Adams. He spoke from Luke 5:17-26, which tells the story of four faithful friends who broke through a roof to bring their paralyzed companion before Jesus. Julian's main point was this: we are living in a season where 'the power of the Lord is present to heal.' This isn't just a historical observation—it's a prophetic declaration over our current moment. We were challenged to examine which of three groups we belong to: the crowd of spectators who gather but never engage, the Pharisees who critique from their assumed positions of authority, or the four men of audacious faith who break through every barrier to encounter Jesus. Julian also pointed out that Luke records Jesus saying 'rise' using the Greek word for resurrection. This reveals something profound—this miracle was a preview of the resurrection power that would soon be available to all believers. Jesus invites us to move beyond theory and theology into demonstration and encounter. The paralyzed man picked up the very thing that had defined his shame and walked home glorifying God. What are we carrying that has defined us? What ceilings of limitation are we willing to break through? We're being called into a season of community faith, where together we believe for things that individually seem unreachable. Faith operates only in the realm of the impossible. The question isn't whether God is moving—He clearly is—but whether we'll step into the audacious faith required to participate in what He's doing. For more info, you can go to our website, check us out on Instagram, Facebook, or YouTube. If you would like to support STUDIO financially, you can do so here.Have a great week!
