The Contracting Handbook podcast is all about the builders and skilled tradesmen and tradeswomen in the construction industry from all over the world and has recently reached the Top 2% of all podcasts globally. Here you'll meet the tradespeople who took a leap of faith from working their craft to running the own construction company. You'll meet people who left lucrative careers to enter the trades. For newcomers to running a construction business, there is a ton of advice on “how to” run your contracting company. For established contractors, you get to meet other industry leaders and get behind the scenes of their business and stay up to date with industry change. Mike Knoche, your host, keeps the conversation interesting. He's been operating his contracting business for over 15 years in the oddly wonderful, Fairbanks, Alaska. Mike's philosophy is “we are all experts in how we build where we live, but the business basics and business management are universal”. Join us for this global conversation on operating a construction company, mental health, cool projects, and construction industry progress. Please leave us a review on Apple  Podcasts if you have an iPhone or on Podchaser if you are an Android to help spread the word about this 100% Independently Recorded and Produced Construction Podcast! Episode Recorded October 11,  2021. Freddy Roman has grown up within the furniture field and mastered a variety of trades revolving around restoration woodworking and everything that goes along with it, from veneer work in neoclassical furniture to glazing antique windows. This is a thoughtful episode coming from someone who occupies the space where “trades” and “craft” are the same. Freddy shares his thoughts about the differences between handwork and machine work and what he's learned in the process of being a woodworker. He also explains the importance of teaching handwork to folks lost skills that would've been commonplace a few decades ago. To find more of Freddy's work visit his website: http://www.periodcraftsmen.com/  and on Instagram @periodcraftsman. Jokes aside, during the course of her woodworking career, Nancy has come to recognize the importance of efficiency in her business, and also how writing is part of what keeps her happy. Grossinger's was an enormous resort that provided fun year round activities for decades. Dancing, skiing, tennis, they had it all. In fact it was the resort that inspired the film Dirty Dancing. This podcast will dive into the story of Grossinger's and the people shaped by it. A couple years back I posted a video about Grossinger’s resort in the Catskills, a once enormous 1200 acre vacation resort. I never visited the resort while it was open but I was struck by its beauty in its decay. I expected the video to get some views and comments but what I didnt expect is that It would get comments that inspired me to make a podcast. What I was struck by is the emotion and detail of these comments and I wanted to share them, but YouTube wasnt the right place for this, I needed a longer format. Podcast…thats it! So here we are, this is my first ever completed episode of the Find It podcast featuring those stories and more. I welcome your comments and questions.
