Join host Brandon as he weaves the epic tale of Claymore, a dark fantasy gem of anime and manga. Step into a grim world where silver-eyed warriors—half-human, half-demon women—battle monstrous Yoma and their own inner demons. Follow Clare's quest for vengeance, from the 2007 Madhouse anime's blood-soaked battles to the manga's sprawling 27-volume saga. With vivid storytelling, Brandon unravels the series' heart, explores its haunting lore, shares wild facts (like a forgotten DS game and a 2025 live-action series), and answers a listener's question. Perfect for fans of Berserk or newcomers to dark fantasy, this 20-minute journey is a must-listen! Connect with us @MindenProject on X.

Discover how the inherent light within each of us can serve as a beacon of hope and strength during challenging times. Engage with the profound significance of the four special Torah portions read in the month of Adar—Shekalim, Zachor, Parah, and HaChodesh. This episode offers a rich tapestry of teachings, connecting ancient wisdom to the modern quest for personal and spiritual growth.Explore the transformative power of small acts of humility and selflessness as we highlight the symbolism of the new moon and its reflection on our spiritual journeys. Through Moshe's preparation and foresight, as he gathered Joseph's bones and cedar wood for the tabernacle, we learn the importance of intention and preparation for future growth. Embrace the idea that true fulfillment of religious duties often lies in the spirit of generosity and self-sacrifice, and not in the pursuit of honor. The Exodus was for good. When the Jewish people left Egypt, they did not return. Pharaoh pursued them (to his detriment) but the nation never turned back. When Moshe initially requested from Pharaoh permission for the nation to leave, it was not supposed to be permanent. It was only supposed to be a 3-day excursion into the wilderness to have a festival of sacrifices to God. What changed? In this Parsha podcast we explore the counterfactual 3-day Exodus. We also discover a brand new insight that each one of us shares some quality with Moshe.

There's a serial killer around New York city going around murdering people in increasingly bizarre ways while also leaving increasingly minute details behind as clues. Denzel Washington plays the brilliant criminologist Lincoln Rhymes who has been paralyzed from the neck down but can still solve clues while bedridden and Angelina Jolie plays Amelia, a plucky young beat cop-former model with a natural eye for forensics and...yada yada yada...they team up to catch the killer. Directed by Phillip Noyce (Dead Calm, Clear and Present Danger, Sliver), this would end up be the last of SEVERAL thrillers released throughout the 1990's focusing on the hunt for a serial killer. And while it might not hold up to the best (The Silence of the Lambs, Se7en) within this subgenre, it IS somewhat elevated by a stacked cast lead by Denzel and Angelina, also including Ed O'Neil, Queen Latifah, Michael Rooker, Luis Guzman, and Leland Orser.Host & Editor: Geoff GershonProducer: Marlene GershonSend us a texthttps://livingforthecinema.com/Facebook:https://www.facebook.com/Living-for-the-Cinema-Podcast-101167838847578Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/livingforthecinema/Letterboxd:https://letterboxd.com/Living4Cinema/
Welcome to your next dose of Awareness with Amandolin on this episode I spoke with Frankie Sunswept + Kimberly Haven about "Nostalgia" their upcoming record you can preorder a c copy of now! The record is exactly the kinda thing that keeps me fiery for the music scene. It combines the band's love of Ethio-jazz, Krautrock, 60s psychedelia, garage rock, African rock, South American folk music, prog, and even proto-metal into a distinctive time capsule dealing with themes of collective memory, climate change, mythology, science fiction, and loving kindness. Each song flows seamlessly into the next creating an infinite loop that echoes the album's theme of the circular nature of time.Watch the triple music video!Feels like a record made for me and likely you too listeners! Happy Monday! Sam and Emma speak with David Austin Walsh, postdoctoral associate at the Yale Program for the Study of Antisemitism and college fellow at the University of Virginia, to discuss his recent book Taking America Back: The Conservative Movement and the Far Right. First, Sam and Emma run through updates on the Harris campaign's momentum, Trump's email problem, the DNC, Ilhan Omar's race, Trump's tough few weeks, Biden's medicare drug price negotiations, consumer protection policy, Israel's continuing genocide in Gaza, Ukraine's counter-invasion, and dropping violent crime rates in 2024, before basking in Trump and Vance's beautifully poor handling of the “weird” allegations. David Austin Walsh then joins, diving right into the major role of one William F. Buckley in shaping American conservatism in the second half of the 20th Century, presenting himself (and all of his bigotry) as the “rational Republican.” Stepping back, Walsh explores how Buckley, the founder of the National Review, came to be the resectable staunch anti-communist and anti-labor aficionado that just happened to have close ties to full-on Neo Nazis, looking at the roles of folks like Merwin Hart, Charles Lindbergh, and Russell Maguire in shaping the more explicitly racist antisemitic strands of Buckley's war on communism, before Barry Goldwater's major loss in 1964 (and the rise of the Civil Rights Movement) saw him begin to push away the electoral risk of rhetorical extremism. Expanding on this, David explores how Buckley's goal of obscuring the bigotry behind the policies of his party became a fundamental element of the conservative political apparatus in the decades that followed, with lines being drawn between the intellectual race science of the Bell Curve and the explicit eugenics of William Shockley, and other major talking heads like Rush Limbaugh and Tucker Carlson becoming media darlings while pushing the line of “respectability” further and further. After briefly touching on the important role of the “crackpot” extremist bigots in Buckley's political charade, Walsh steps back to analyze the role catholicism and theocracy have played in the background of this evolution, and wraps up with a brief assessment of the Right's willing embrace of reactionary populism over recent decades. And in the Fun Half: Sam and Emma dive deep into reports of the major disarray within the Trump campaign in the wake of Harris replacing Biden on the Democratic ticket, before taking in Dr. Tanya Haj Hassan's reflections on medical care in Gaza and the unmatched horrors facing Palestinians. The MR Team also has an expansive conversation on Harris' approach to Gaza, how her public stance on the genocide influences Biden and Bibi (if at all), and what they'd like to see from her moving forward, plus, your IMs! What happens when a man's creation becomes his agent of destruction? Well, the Modern Prometheus (Brad) finds out when his Frankingstein monster (The Board of Many Things) immediately turns on him as it casts an uncaring eye towards the 1985 Cannon ripoff of Indiana Jones King Solomon's Mines. Despite being directed by J. Lee Thompson (Cape Fear, Guns of the Navarone, Mackenna's Gold, 10 to Midnight), scored by Jerry Goldsmith (Alien, Patton, Chinatown, Papillon), and starring Richard Chamberlain (The Towering Inferno, The Thorn Birds, Shogun), Sharon Stone (Basic Instinct, The Quick and the Dead, Sliver), and John Rhys-Davies (The Lord of the Rings, Indiana Jones, Sliders) this movie is a ROUGH ONE. What started as a potentially fun romp turned sour quickly with a sloppy bouillabaisse of tonal whiplash, not-so-casual racism, and BOREDOM. Sean handles the assignment with typical aplomb, but Brad has several nervous breakdowns throughout the course of the episode. This was supposed to be one of the more fun board choices. "You like to watch, watch this!" We watched "Sliver" from 1993 with our friend Adam Yeend and we're gonna start closing out blinds at night! Sharon Stone followed the breakout success of "Basic Instinct" (1992) with another Erotic Thriller - this time playing a much more grounded character. Listen, we love Catharine Tramell, but Stoney decided to switch things up and leave the murdering to the boys this time. William (Billy) Baldwin is giving us his best Alec impression right down to flashing those Baldwin Buns. And would it be a '90s Erotic Thriller without a soundtrack straight out of the Pure Moods catalog? Enigma even wrote "Carly's Song" specifically for this film but we would be remiss if we didn't mention the UB40 rendition of "(I Can't Help) Falling in Love with You" that was everywhere for the rest of the '90s. We also unpack the WILD alternate ending inside of a volcano (not making this up) as well as the shifting of certain plot points to allow the new ending to make sense. Did Hollywood try to recreate the lightning in a bottle of "Basic Instinct" with "Sliver"? Maybe. We still think "Sliver" is a lot of fun and definitely worth the revisit. There's a small stretch of Oakland's shoreline unlike any place else. Nestled between the restaurants of Jack London Square and the modern apartment blocks of Brooklyn Basin sits 5th Avenue Marina. This collection of rusty warehouses, eclectic studios, and surreal art installations recalls a bygone era, when crafty Bohemians dwelled amongst decaying shipyards. Schultz, a man who bought a chunk of this area in 1979, calls it “the neighborhood time forgot.” Although developers have attempted numerous times to dislodge the scrappy community at 5th Avenue Marina, these efforts have been stubbornly blocked, most notably in 2017 when residents formed a nonprofit called SHADE (Shadetree Historical Artisan Development Engine) and purchased the property formerly owned by Schultz. This episode traces the long history of the 5th Avenue Marina, from its days as a World War I shipbuilding facility up through its transformation into an unusual compound sometimes referred to as “Oakland's Riviera.” Our tour guide for this voyage is the legendary Schultz, who is still a feisty storyteller at 88 years old and, like Rihanna or Cher, prefers to go by a mononym. LOOK OUT! It's only Films To Be Buried With! A REWIND CLASSIC! Join your host Brett Goldstein as he talks life, death, love and the universe with the fabulous, the truly great, the acting legend that is SHARON STONE! Below will be the original writeup for this episode which originally aired around June 2020. It was in the early days of the pandemic, when the world seemed truly bizarre, scary and plain weird. It's odd sometimes to think back especially when it's to a specific episode, as it can really timewarp you back there more than just a vague general memory of the era. Sharon was a delight, and rose to the occasion spectacularly, so please enjoy this glimpse into the past! It's me on the intro/outro (your producer Buddy Peace), so don't be alarmed. I mean you no shock or surprise. ––––––––––––––––––––––––– I was going to start with “You may remember Sharon from such films as…”, but of course - that ‘may' is redundant and superfluous. You KNOW her from such films as Basic Instinct, Sliver, Casino and SO so many more, and her filmography is as strong as it gets with appearances in all kinds of great movies dating back to the early 80's. She and Brett meet in her garden (with a remote Brett in his house), for a very fun, interesting and revealing chat which goes into her past acting experiences, life and important work she's been involved with around the world. Truly fascinating, you'll love this one. Sharon Stone's no stranger to baring it all on-screen. And now she's baring all in a new interview. On “The Louis Theroux Podcast,” the “Basic Instinct” star talks about a weird meeting she had with the producer of her 1993 bomb, “Sliver.” Sharon says she was told to sleep with co-star William Baldwin in order to help his performance. Sharon has talked about this incident before, but has been tight-lipped about the producer's identity. But now she's naming names! And Billy's not happy she's dredged this up again. He's clapping back at Sharon online, and he's got a very different version of what went down on the set.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
In this Teisho, given on February 11th, 2024, Rinzan Osho examines case 13 of the Hekiganroku: Haryo's "Snow in a Sliver Bowl." Koan introspection invites into a way of being that is always available but that we don't normally access. This way of being opens us up to a more meaningful relationship with the deep nature of things.
Daniel and Manton talk about Apple reinstating Epic's developer account for the EU, and then banning it again. They compare it with Apple's recent public reaction to Spotify and the EU's $2B fine against the company. They wonder if Apple has become fixated on this as a fight of passion, to their detriment. Finally, a wish for Apple to put somebody new in charge of the App Store to help to fulfill its mission. The post Episode 590: A Small Sliver of Truth appeared first on Core Intuition.

Joe Eszterhas's tenure as the hottest screenwriter in town ended with two notorious 1995 flops: the NC-17 rated Showgirls (directed, like Basic Instinct, by Paul Verhoeven) and Jade (produced, like Sliver, by Robert Evans), We'll analyze why these films failed to connect with audiences in 1995, and, more importantly, why the media at the time seized on them as major embarrassments for the industry. Sharon Stone and Joe Eszterhas's post-Basic Instinct reunion film was one of the most troubled productions of the 90s. A post-Hitchcock tale of sexual surveillance given a technological update for the 90s, after a long battle with the MPAA the sanitized, R-rated version of Sliver was rejected by critics and audiences, but the movie and the juicy gossip leaked from its production (which included a love pentagon involving both actress and screenwriter) only enhanced Sharon Stone's aura as an old-school Hollywood star for a decade that didn't know what to do with her.
