This week Amy's been taking a deep dive on Old Dirty Bastard. It's unseasonably warm for February and the ladies are loving it even though they're sure we're all doomed. Amy is also digging into The Last of Us. Is Pedro Pascal really as handsome as people say he is? Amy hates the little creepy spider fungus thing that creeps out of people's mouth. She also hates “zombie acting”. Spoiler alert: Amy is HBO-rich again! Why is HBO now called Max? Tennis Report: Amy & Maya come up with a movie premise where they accidentally sign up for juniors tennis camp with teenagers. Also, the nemesis coaches have competing tennis drill on the same day, and Maya has to make a choice. Amy basically lives at Lifetime Fitness now and encounters a man at tennis drills who's incredulous. Maya gets hit in the face with the ball. Amy recounts a story from Mathew Perry's memoir about hitting Chevy Chase in the nuts with a power serve. Amy is binging A Different World and reviews the We Are the World documentary. Animal Report: Maya's dog Gracie gets a dog psychologist for her hardcore hardwood floor problem. Turns out dog psychology is just throwing hot dogs on the floor. Approved/Denied: The moon is shrinking. Hermit crabs use garbage for shells. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/the-spirit-of-77/message

Hour 2: Boomer doesn't know who Old Dirty Bastard is. He knows who Wu Tang is but not ODB. When Eddie plays his inappropriate drops, they go out over the loudspeaker here at the Travelers. We talked a little baseball with the locals. What can the Mets do to turn it around and become a playoff baseball team by the end of the season? There still seems to be no real timetable for Aaron Judge's return. The Yankees are just not the same team without him in the lineup. The other stars on the team are not carrying their weight. The Braves and the Rays look like only real teams in baseball right now. Who are the homegrown difference makers on the Mets? Pete Alonso, Jeff McNeil, Brandon NIMMO? But they are not like Aaron Judge. Boomer was with Jets GM Joe Douglas yesterday and they talked about Aaron Rodgers and what it's like to be around a Hall of Fame QB. Jerry returns for an update and starts with Justin VERLANDER returning to Houston. He gave up 3 runs in the third and that was enough for the Astros to beat the Mets. VERLANDER talked about giving up the HR to Alex Bregman. Jeff McNeil talked about losing and needing to get hot. The Yankees beat the Mariners. Gio is starstruck by all the golfers and Boomer told him to ‘take your shirt off and shake your nipples at him'. Billy McKinney hit a HR and talked about facing Kirby. Cole talked about getting the win. Brian CASHMAN talked before the game about their offensive struggles. The Rangers introduced their new Head Coach Peter LAVIOLETTE. In the final segment of the hour, we talked about the missing submarine that was touring the Titanic wreckage. Supposedly the rescuers heard some banging. Even if they find it, how are they going to bring it to the surface? Boomer would never get into a submarine like that.
Hour 1: We are live from the Travelers golf tournament. We talked about the chaos for all of us getting up here. Gio was on a ferry and Boomer's helicopter flew right over him on his way here. There were rumors Boomer was upset with his hotel room and left. A new lineup at WFAN was announced yesterday and we reacted to it. Gio is most interested in how Brandon Tierney and Sal Licata will get along. Boomer spilled coffee on his crotch and is using a Tide stick to try and get it out. Scottie Sheffler is supposed to be coming by later today. Jerry is here for his first update of the day and he starts with the Yankees beating the Mariners behind GERRIT Cole and a HR by Billy McKinney and we got a new John Sterling call. Cole waved his finger at the Mariners bench at one point after striking out Jose Caballero. Cole said the manager was waving his finger at him so he waved it back. Aaron Hicks continues to perform well for the Orioles. He hit another HR and had 4 RBIs. The Astros got to Justin VERLANDER in the third for 3 runs and it was enough to beat the Mets. The Mets didn't have a hit until the sixth inning. VERLANDER talked about his performance in Houston. The GM of the Angels said it's highly unlikely that they trade OHTANI while in contention. The Rangers new Head Coach, Peter Laviolette, met the media yesterday and Jerry has the audio. His wife told him he had to smile. In the final segment of the hour, Gio yells to golfer Tony Finau as he leaves the practice green. We talked about the life of a golfer as they go from tournament to tournament. We still don't have any details on how it's going to work with the PGA Tour and LIV. Boomer is playing at the course later on. Gio heard Tiki is a 20 handicap and he expected better. Visually, it was very weird to see Tiki standing next to Evan Roberts and Shaun Morash. In the final segment of the hour, we talked about the missing submarine that was touring the Titanic wreckage. Supposedly the rescuers heard some banging. Even if they find it, how are they going to bring it to the surface? Boomer would never get into a submarine like that. Hour 3: Former Giant Shaun O'Hara won Boomer's golf tournament yesterday. Boomer will be going to Rao's with Coach COWHER. Gio said he is playing in the Pro-Am here next year and he's not taking no for an answer. Tiki & Tierney mercy ruled Carton & Roberts in softball. Most of the WFAN hosts got injured while playing. Today is Scottie Sheffler's birthday and we got him a cake from Walmart. Jerry returns for an update but first Boomer is claiming he mentioned Wyndham Clark when we were picking winners for the US Open. The Yankees beat the Mariners behind GERRIT Cole. Billy McKinney hit the longest HR of his career last night. Brian CASHMAN talked about the grind of a long season. The Mets lost in Houston behind Justin VERLANDER. He gave up 3 runs in the third. Aaron Hicks had a HR and 4 RBIs for the Orioles last night. The Rangers introduced new Head Coach Peter LAVIOLETTE. Boomer thinks the golfers are still confused about the PGA Tour and LIV merger. In the final segment of the hour, Boomer & Gio used the port-o-potty during the break and there was a lot of poop in there. Boomer said it's a pile of human waste over there. Who are the stars in golf right now? What made Tom Brady a superstar? Can Scottie Sheffler become a superstar? Hour 4: Scottie Sheffler joins us live from the Travelers. He said he's still not sure how it will work with the PGA Tour and LIV merging. He didn't want to go to LIV because he dreamed of playing on the PGA Tour. Right now it's just a framework agreement so nobody knows the details. We presented Scottie with a Walmart cake as today is his birthday. Jerry returns for his final update of the morning but first Gio talked about the great picture he just took with SCHEFFLER. Boomer will be playing with Tim Wakefield. Gio said he knows a guy that got crabs from Tim Wakefield. Jerry has audio as Shaun Morash has a tearful goodbye to the DA Show. He said he owes his life to DA. Boomer thinks Gio was aroused while interviewing Scottie Sheffler.

We often are forced to listen to celebrity "success" stories. During these "success" stories we are told that if we work our asses down to the tailbone the magic job fairy will come along and offer us our dream job. This story has been preached as the gospel truth by almost every celebrity that has ever graced a movie set or a microphone. But the reality is much different; the reality is that favoritism, the act of giving unfair preference to one person or group not based on talent but on superficial things like attractiveness, and nepotism, the act of giving all jobs to your unqualified relatives and friends rather than giving it to the person who has worked the hardest, often lead to what we call success. I personally see a lot of favoritism in the rap scene play out today. Modern rap has become more of a fashion show than an art form. There are not many Missy Eliot's making it into the higher levels of rap today. There are not many Eves coming up in the game anymore. The aforementioned artists had mad talent and they are proof that you really do not have to look like some fashion model to make great art. That is why Nicki Minaj's ascent to fame was so depressing to me. I don't even think Minaj remembers her own hair color any longer. She actually fashions herself after a Barbie Doll as her stage personae. Really? A Barbie Doll? The toy that is pretty much the standard of beauty for all young white girls, that instructs those white girls that that is how you are supposed to look, that makes them hate themselves. Some of those white girls, who no doubt hate themselves because no one looks like a Barbie Doll, grow up and bully black girls in order to make themselves feel better. These white girls, not all, but some, call black girls ugly all because their mothers taught them, by buying them toys like Barbie Dolls, that black girls are ugly. But this is what you base your persona on? How disappointing it is to know that one of the number one artists in a mostly all black genre is contributing to the bullying of young black girls cannot be put into words. But if you are willing to do that, if you are willing act white instead of sticking true to your roots, then you can make it in rap pretty easily. But don't get it twisted, I ain't impressed by Nicki Minaj or anyone like her who decides to put on white face, while at the same time acting like she's a soldier for the black race. This is favoritism act work, only the black people who act white ever get anywhere anymore in this country. That is a fact. The same can be said of men in the rap game. It used to be that you could be an Old Dirty Bastard type and achieve measurable success in the hip hop world because no one used to care how you looked as long as you sounded great. Nowadays, you have to have the perfect haircut and the perfect clothing style to be a famous rapper. I don't know what happened in hip hop, but somewhere along the line it became a requirement that you had to look like Puff Daddy to be a hit rapper. That's the standard now and a lot of serious talent is getting passed up because of this high fashion movement that has taken over rap. But it's not just favoritism; nepotism is also taking over entertainment. The reason there are not enough jobs for up and coming artists like me, the reason they lock us out of Hollywood, is because they give all the jobs to their untalented relatives and friends. It's not enough for celebrities to have requirements for how you must act and look to get into their cool kids club; now you actually have to be related to them! When does it end? How can you possibly please such people? How can you sit there and expect me to keep a positive attitude when these drama queens are going out of their way to lock people like me out of the industry? Some of us don't have money to go to the damn spa, alright? I can't always afford to buy a new suit and tie for an audition and they know that. The author and radio personality William Milton Cooper exercised a remarkably broad influence on conspiracy theory in the United States and beyond in the late 20th century. After his death in a shootout with police at his Arizona compound just months after 9/11, his name passed into legend, but the extent of his influence is often overlooked. Cooper's 1991 book Behold a Pale Horse, which claimed to document the Illuminati's scheme for a New World Order, was often described as a manifesto of the militia movement; it also circulated widely as contraband in prisons, especialy among African Americans, and as a result, became a frequent reference in hip hop lyrics in the 90s. Journalist Mark Jacobson was introduced to Cooper by one of his most prominent fans, the Wu Tang Clan's Old Dirty Bastard. He subsequently immersed himself in Cooper's writings, broadcasts, and career, and in 2018, published the first biography of him, Pale Horse Rider. Mark joins me to discuss the book, its subject, conspiracy culture in the Trump era, and more. Richard Thompson essentially invented British folk-rock with Fairport Convention, then decided to go solo after a tragic car accident. Linda Peters was a Glaswegian university dropout who cut her teeth as a singer on advertising jingles. In 1972, they married. In 1973, they joined a commune dedicated to Sufism, a mystical and spiritual form of Islam and swore never to play music again. But then in 1974, they wrote, recorded and released what Rolling Stone magazine calls the 485th Greatest Album of All Time: “I Want To See The Bright Lights Tonight” Liam and CMB listen to it and then dish out hot takes about traditional British folk music, Old Dirty Bastard of the Wu-Tang Clan, metaphorical tightrope-walking, literal tightrope-walking, middle class anti-capitalism and Brian Emo. We know we're a little late getting this week's RIPEcast out to you, but we think you'll find it was with the wait. The Space Cowboys are pleased to welcome special guest, Deekline, to The RIPEcast! Enjoy, Everyone! Deekline is that rare figure in dance music, the seminal producer who balances the cutting edge and the mainstream with effortless flair. Head of the London to Brighton-spanning Hot Cakes collective of producers, promoters and DJs, this bass music icon recently released new album Bounce 'n' Shake with studio partner in crime Ed Solo, an eclectic tour de force sent down with the kind of assurance one might expect from DJs who have sent bodies flying round the room at club venues across the globe for more than a decade. A hero of the underground from the days of his Platinum-selling UK garage anthem I Don't Smoke Da Reefer, Deekline oversees a range of Hot Cakes imprints (Hot Cakes, Sludge, Jungle Cakes and the legendary Rat Records) all of which work tirelessly to propel street level artists into the forefront of the electronic music scene. On a live tip, the Hot Cakes parties have achieved the rare feat of blowing up clubs on both sides of the Atlantic, in Miami, Spain and London, where his flagship night sits pretty at the heart of Brixton at iconic underground nightclub Jamm. He's also known to put on a rump-shaking boat party or two on the river Thames. In the studio, Deekline is a bonafide musical shapeshifter, his impressive diversity having seen him rework the likes of Armand Van Helden, Old Dirty Bastard and The Prodigy. He is currently remixing the new Laidback Luke new single and earlier in 2013 his 2-step-flavoured reworking of Lethal Bizzle & Donae'o's Not A Saint anthem proved he's still in touch with his UK garage roots at a time when the sound has never been hotter. Fittingly for a producer whose Hot Cakes brand has become a byword for bassbin-shaking bravado, this is one artist who's cooking up a storm right now.
