Rabbit Troop Sucks

It's our 200th episode! Thank you for listening along the way. Two rogue angels, Bartleby (Ben Affleck) and Loki (Matt Damon) have been banned from heaven. Now, through a loophole that Cardinal Glick (George Carlin) has accidentally created, these angles might re-enter heaven and put an end to everything and everyone. Because of Bethany's (Linda Fiorentino) bloodline, she is sent on a mission to save us all. Thankfully, she is aided by the holiest of duos, Jay (Jason Mewes) and Silent Bob (Kevin Smith). RTS starts changing water into wine. You're not even ready to see what they change Kool-Aid into. Serendipity (Salma Hayek) approves. Jeremy searches for fun religious artifacts. In the end, he comes to collect on the $12 JC owes Rufus (Chris Rock). Collin buys some fancy pants for the rapture. He's looking stylish. Brent and Metatron (Alan Rickman) get mouthy with some shots of tequila. Swish, swish! Let's get another round! Thanks, again, for listening to our fun. We'll keep it going even after the apocalypse. Here's to 200 more!

In this episode of the show, our conversations about John Dahl noir-adjacent thrillers continues with The Last Seduction. Over the course of the recording you will hear us talk about the way in which this movie traverses between tropes of noir and the more 90s-specific erotic thriller, how Linda Fiorentino embodies and elevates the archetypal femme fatale and a project destined originally for TV ended up one of the year's critical darlings. We also discuss how the deleted scenes would have added some spice to the movie, how eventually the film does fall victim to the complexity of its plot and the many tiny moments of character comedy hidden within the script. Felicity Beckett talks to filmmaker Kevin Smith about his classic movie, Dogma, currently getting the 4K re-release treatment in cinemas.  Twenty-five years ago, Kevin Smith unleashed Dogma, a sharp, irreverent religious satire that sparked conversation, controversy, and cult fandom around the world. In this remastered 4K edition, Dogma: Resurrected!, reintroduces the story of Bartleby (Ben Affleck) and Loki (Matt Damon), two banished angels who seek to exploit a theological loophole and return to Heaven, thereby inadvertently nullifying all of existence. A reluctant abortion clinic worker (Linda Fiorentino) is tasked with stopping them, guided by a heavenly host that includes the last scion of Christ, a muse, a pair of prophets, and the voice of God.With its razor-sharp dialogue, philosophical underpinnings, and genre-blending boldness, Dogma remains as provocative and funny now as it was in 1999, if not more so. On season 10, episode 9 of Paid in Puke, we're falling for John Dahl's 1993 neo-noir The Last Seduction, starring Linda Fiorentino, Peter Berg, and Bill Pullman. Fiorentino commands the screen as a femme fatale who is as brilliant and sexy as she is cold, and calculating. She steals the whole pot from a joint drug deal devised with her husband (Pullman), and hides out in small town in upstate NY. There, she passes the time with a naive townie (Berg), who eventually proves himself to be useful in ways other than sex. Dahl directed this film as a black comedy, but the script is also extremely smart and tight, making it a standout of the 90's neo-noir genre.  We have a lot of fun dissecting Bridget's schemes, appreciating her fashion and quick wit, marveling at the range of Bill Pullman, the ahead-of its time race and homophobia commentary (including a non-problematic trans character played by an actual trans woman!) and the surprising connections to Barb and Star Go To Vista Del Mar. On the Lunchtime Poll, we reveal the aliases we would adopt if we were ever to go on the lam.

Forty-years ago, Oscar-winning master Martin Scorsese (Goodfellas, Taxi Driver, Killers of the Flower Moon) directed his second dark comedy in a row (after The King of Comedy) with this quirky New York story which takes place almost entirely during one crazy night.  The whole story centers on Paul played by Griffing Dunne (An American Werewolf in London, My Girl, Dallas Buyers Club) who's just a lowly word processor by day but late one night, he decides to meet up with a mysterious, beautiful woman named Marcy (Rosanna Arquette) in the Soho district.  When he arrives at her apartment, she's at first not there so he ecounters her very strange, forward roommate (Linda Fiorentino)....eventually some one dies....and things just get stranger from there as Paul finds himself trapped in this ONE part of Manhattan unable to find his way home.  The stacked cast for this cult classic also includes Teri Garr, Catherine O'Hara, Will Patton, John Heard, Cheech Marin, and Tommy Chong. Host: Geoff GershonEdited By Ella GershonProducer: Marlene GershonSend us a textSupport the showhttps://livingforthecinema.com/Facebook:https://www.facebook.com/Living-for-the-Cinema-Podcast-101167838847578Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/livingforthecinema/Letterboxd:https://letterboxd.com/Living4Cinema/

Friend of the pod and glamor-trash gay man-about-town Billy Weston joins Torie and Maggie to unpack three of the sexiest, messiest, and most titillatingly trashy erotic thrillers of the 1990s.
Jesse Spano trades textbooks for stripper poles to dance her way through a 24/7, nipple tweaking tantrum in Paul Verhoeven's infamous, eternally iconic TRASHterpiece, SHOWGIRLS (1995). Neve Campbell and Denise Richards, whose aquatic escapades inaugurated a million Millennial boners, continue to masterfully mindf**k us in WILD THINGS (1998). Sick of bad sex and surmised of murder, smoky siren Linda Fiorentino is suspected by CSI's OG sunglasses guy, David Caruso, in William Friedkin's convoluted, surprisingly sterile flop, JADE (1995).

Send us a textKatie and Bridget travel to NJ to go to church (Mom - aren't you proud!?) as they rewatch: Dogma! It's a movie all about how religion is kinda crazy but also God is totally real and she IS Alanis Morissette! Come along as we meet Bethany, a woman losing her faith who gets visited by a bunch of mystical religious figures and told that she's the chosen one! Casual! When a church in New Jersey somehow has the power to cleanse everyone of their sins, two fallen angels go on an evil quest to clear themselves and reenter heaven. While that may sound nice, it would actually bring about the apocalypse - and somehow this is Bethany's problem! We've got angels, profits, apostles, muses, demons, and two stoners (Jay and Silent Bob) all in this anti-religious but also somehow religious movie which makes us ask the ultimate moral question... Are Matt Damon and Ben Affleck in love with each other or what!? Released in 1999, it was written and directed by Kevin Smith and stars an insane cast including Linda Fiorentino, Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, Janeane Garofalo, Jason Lee, Alan Rickman, Jason Mewes, Chris Rock, Salma Hayek, George Carlin, and Alanis Morissette.

What if you could commit a crime with a perfect plan? Linda Fiorentino shows us exactly how in the 1994 erotic thriller The Last Seduction. A tale of twists and turns gets sexy yet dangerous as this neo-noir unfolds. This movie has a pretty strong audience score. Zach and Amanda discuss why this may be, with questioning perhaps why that may have been a bit too over zealous. Welcome back to the Video Store! Valentine's Day is almost upon us and if you're here looking for movie selections instead of out buying flowers or making dinner reservations, then sir or madam, I salute you. For this week's episode of the show I've picked four movies that feature unconventional relationships. After browsing the stores aisles looking for this week's film recommendations, I ended up rewatching all four of these movies (a couple of which I hadn't seen in decades) and for the most part they have all aged well. Harold and Maude (1971)Harold is a young adult obsessed with death, while Maude is a 79-year-old woman infatuated with life. The two share a hobby in common — attending the funerals of strangers — and soon this odd couple forms a close relationship. Wikipedia describes this film as a “romantic black comedy drama,” which only begins to describe it. It's sweet, it's funny, and it's emotional. While critics originally hated it, the film as gone on to appear in many “best of” film lists. Something Wild (1986)The last person you would expect a New York banker like Charlie to get involved with is a carefree person like Lulu, but after she kidnaps the yuppie for a weekend of reckless fun, Charlie finds the adventure exciting… until things get out of hand. When Lulu's husband discovers what the pair has been up to, he is none too happy. Someone — or perhaps everyone — has been lying. This not-to-miss thriller stars Jeff Daniels as Charlie, Melanie Griffith as Lulu, and a terrifying Ray Liotta has Lulu's husband, Ray. After Hours (1985)Have you ever had one of those days? After work, Paul Hackett heads to a local diner where he meets a woman named Marcy. The two exchange numbers and later, she invites him over to her apartment. This starts off a chain of events that will have Paul running around the streets of New York from one mess to the next. Before the end of the night his face ends up on wanted posters, he's chased by an angry mob, and he becomes involved in a city wide crime ring. It's a night that Paul will never forget — or maybe, survive. Featuring a star-packed cast including Griffin Dunne (An American Werewolf in London), Rosanna Arquette, Linda Fiorentino, Teri Garr, Catherine O'Hara, Bronson Pinchot, Dick Miller, and even Cheech and Chong. Directed by Martin Scorsese.Valley Girl (1983)Randy (Nicholas Cage) is a punk rocker from Hollywood. Julie (Deborah Foreman) is a Valley Girl. Their worlds are complete opposites and it seems that everybody and everything will try and stop them from getting together, but sometimes, love finds a way. This classic 80s film was directed by Martha Coolidge and will take you back to the sights, sounds, and music of the 1980s.Thanks for checking out the podcast. If you don't have plans this Valentine's Day, you can have a great time renting and watching one of these films. And if you would prefer to get out of the house, you can always drop by a stranger's funeral. You never know who you'll meet! This is a public episode. On this week's episode of Unclear and Present Danger, Jamelle and John watched Men in Black, the 1997 sci-fi action comedy directed by Barry Sonnenfeld and starring Tommy Lee Jones, Will Smith, Linda Fiorentino, Vincent D'Onofrio and Rip Torn.Men in Black was written by Ed Soloman and shot by the late Donald Peterman — whose credits include Flashdance, Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home, Planes, Trains and Automobiles and Point Break — with a score by Danny Elfman. In Men in Black, Smith plays James Darrell Edwards III, a New York City police officer who finds himself in chase through the city with a unnaturally fast and agile criminal, who later commits suicide. He soon learns that this criminal was an alien from another planet, and that New York is host to a secret government agency tasked with tracking alien lifeforms on Earth. He is recruited into the Men in Black by Agent K, and is deemed Agent J.Agents K and J are soon on the hunt for a Bug, an extra-terrestial cockroach who seeks “the galaxy,” a precious energy source that has been left on Earth. As the Bug, donning the skin of a human farmer, rampages through New York, K and J try to mitigate the damage and protect the galaxy, and the Earth itself, from the Bug.The tagline for Men in Black was “Protecting the Earth from the Sum of the Universe.”You can find Men in Black to stream on demand on Amazon Prime or for rent or purchase on Amazon and Apple TV.Be sure to sign up for our Patreon, where we watch the films of the Cold War and try to unpack them as political and historical documents! "Dennis vs. the Movies" continues with a look at Martin Scorsese's black comedy about a yuppie who meets the wrong woman, is stranded overnight in Soho, and hunted by an angry mob. It's a comedic take on the country's feelings about New York, expressed in other film of the period--a terrifying, lawless place, Escape from New York, The Warriors, "the Bronx is burning" and all that--and stands it on its head. Forty years later, it's hard not to feel nostalgic for a world where artists could squat in warehouses and diners were open all night, even if it came with a side of vigilantes and home invasions. Starring Griffin Dunne, Rosanna Arquette, Teri Garr, Verna Bloom, Cheech and Chong, Linda Fiorentino, John Heard, and Catherine O'Hara. Written by Joseph Minion, story by Joe Frank. Directed by Martin Scorsese.
