God's holiness is put on display for all to see in and through Jesus' death on the cross.
Not presuming on God's holiness | 2 Samuel 6:1-8 | Dominic Steele | Daily Bible Time | 29 July 2021When you read something in the Bible that seems strange to us. It's an opporunity to think more deeply. It's an opportunity to ask yourself, 'Why am I and my thinking out of step with God?' And then as you do that to reflect, 'Well it can't be God that's wrong and needs to change, so it must be me.' 'I need to think harder and dig deeper.'The execution of Uzzah in 2 Samuel 6:1-8 is one of those moments, which initally seems strange to us. Lets have a go today at digging deeper into this moment.2 Samuel 6:1-8 David again assembled all the fit young men in Israel: thirty thousand. 2 He and all his troops set out to bring the ark of God from Baale-judah. The ark bears the Name, the name of the Lord of Armies who is enthroned between the cherubim. 3 They set the ark of God on a new cart and transported it from Abinadab's house, which was on the hill. Uzzah and Ahio, sons of Abinadab, were guiding the cart 4 and brought it with the ark of God from Abinadab's house on the hill. Ahio walked in front of the ark. 5 David and the whole house of Israel were dancing before the Lord with all kinds of fir wood instruments, lyres, harps, tambourines, sistrums,[d] and cymbals.6 When they came to Nacon's threshing floor, Uzzah reached out to the ark of God and took hold of it because the oxen had stumbled. 7 Then the Lord's anger burned against Uzzah, and God struck him dead on the spot for his irreverence, and he died there next to the ark of God. 8 David was angry because of the Lord's outburst against Uzzah, so he named that place Outburst Against Uzzah, as it is today. 9 David feared the Lord that day and said, “How can the ark of the Lord ever come to me?” 10 So he was not willing to bring the ark of the Lord to the city of David; instead, he diverted it to the house of Obed-edom of Gath.

“For they {Earthly Parents} disciplined us for a short time . . . but he {God} disciplines us for our good, that we may share his {God's} holiness" (Hebrews 12:10) MESSAGE SUMMARY: The Lord disciplines his children; therefore, so should we. Our discipline can take many forms, for example: 1) teach children a lesson, even hard lessons; and 2) it is OK to take away children's privileges. The Lord's discipline is out of love; and our discipline, for our children, should, also, be out of our love. Nobody likes discipline -- we do not like it; our kids do not like it. However, discipline works to bring righteousness and peace, and discipline brings fruit to us and our children down the road. In Hebrews 12:7-10, the author of Hebrews succinctly describes the Biblical perspective regarding discipline: It is for discipline that you have to endure. God is treating you as {His} sons. For what son is there whom his father does not discipline? If you are left without discipline, in which all have participated, then you are illegitimate children and not sons. Besides this, we have had earthly fathers who disciplined us, and we respected them. Shall we not much more be subject to the Father of spirits and live? For they {Earthly Parents} disciplined us for a short time as it seemed best to them, but he {God} disciplines us for our good, that we may share his {God's} holiness.". TODAY'S PRAYER: Lord, help me to be still and to wait patiently for you in silence. In Jesus' name, amen. Scazzero, Peter. Emotionally Healthy Spirituality Day by Day (p. 125). Zondervan. Kindle Edition. TODAY'S AFFIRMATION: Today, I affirm that, because I am in Jesus Christ, I will proclaim Him. (Philippians 1:15f). “I can do everything through Him who gives me strength.”. (Philippians 4:14). SCRIPTURE REFERENCE (ESV): 2 Samuel. 7.13-15; 1 Corinthians. 11:32; Ephesians. 6.1-4; Psalms 42:1-11. 344 We Share in God's Holiness Through Discipline, A Guided Christian Meditation on 1 Peter 3:15-17 with the Recenter With Christ app I'm Chaplain Jared and I work as a hospice chaplain and an ICU chaplain, my purpose in making this podcast is to help you find more peace in your life and to be more open for your heart to be changed by the Spirit of God. By using centuries old form of Christian Meditation named Lectio Divina: Outline: Relaxation, Reading, Meditation, Prayer, Contemplation and Visualization. Get into a place where you can sit comfortably and uninterrupted for about 20 minutes. You should hopefully not be driving or anything tensing or unrelaxing. If you feel comfortable to do so, I invite you to close your eyes. Guided Relaxation / Guided Meditation: Breathe and direct your thoughts to connecting with God. Let your stomach be a balloon inflate, deflate. Bible verses for Meditation: Hebrew 12:7-11 NIV 7 Endure hardship as discipline; God is treating you as his children. For what children are not disciplined by their father? 8 If you are not disciplined—and everyone undergoes discipline—then you are not legitimate, not true sons and daughters at all.9 Moreover, we have all had human fathers who disciplined us and we respected them for it. How much more should we submit to the Father of spirits and live! 10 They disciplined us for a little while as they thought best; but God disciplines us for our good, in order that we may share in his holiness. 11 No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it. ESV 7 It is for discipline that you have to endure. God is treating you as sons. For what son is there whom his father does not discipline? 8 If you are left without discipline, in which all have participated, then you are illegitimate children and not sons. 9 Besides this, we have had earthly fathers who disciplined us and we respected them. Shall we not much more be subject to the Father of spirits and live? 10 For they disciplined us for a short time as it seemed best to them, but he disciplines us for our good, that we may share his holiness. 11 For the moment all discipline seems painful rather than pleasant, but later it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it. Meditation on Scripture: You have everything you need to do what you need to do. God has given you exactly what you need. Greatest of all He has helped us overcome sin. He created a plan whereby we would grow well beyond our limitations. We receive His holiness through faithfully receiving His grace. Here, that transforming power of Grace, is called discipline. If we think we will receive His grace without being changed we are missing something. Yet it is important that we learn to recognize God's discipline and be trained by it. When we learn it's lessons we are prepared to receice the peaceful fruit of righteousness. God is our Holy Father. Better than any earthly father and more loving. Sometimes images of earthly fathers can provide a metaphor for how God loves us, sometimes those examples are unhelpful. More caring and compassionate than any you know. Regardless of your personal experience spend a moment to imagine the ideal image of a loving amd caring father. Someone who cares about their children and works for their betterment. Now image god in that role. Now recognize that whatever the best image you could conjure it does not compare to what God feels for you. You are loved by a perfectly loving God. Meditation of Prayer: Pray as directed by the Spirit. Dedicate these moments to the patient waiting, when you feel ready ask God for understanding you desire from Him. Meditation of God and His Glory / Hesychasm: I invite you to sit in silence feeling being patient for your own faults and trials. Summarize what insights you have gained during this meditation and meditate and visualize positive change in your life: This is a listener funded podcast at patreon.com/christianmeditationpodcast Updates: Final Question: In what ways do you struggle with seeing people as objects at times? Final Thought: God's plan was meant to try us and to push us to rely on Him. “What comes into our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us, for we tend by a secret law of the soul to move toward our mental image of God. This is true not only of the individual Christian, but of the company of Christians that composes the Church. Always the most revealing thing about the Church is her idea of God.” - A.W. TozerWhat is YOUR idea of God? How do you see Him? We become what we believe about who God is. The way we worship Him is based on how high our thoughts are of God. Gripped by the Holiness of God - Isaiah 6: 1 - 7 In the first part of our new series, we look at Isaiah explanation of the Holiness of God and how we respond to it. We unpack that God is holiness and part of our inheritance is to be Holy as God is Holy through the imputation of Christ righteousness and holiness.
Everything about God begins at one place. His holiness. As we explore the way that God is set apart from us in every single way, we can begin to understand His righteousness and the importance of our obedience to the word of God.
