Rev. Chris Jimmerson's service delivered on September 21, 2025. Unitarian Universalism has centered our faith in love. In this church, we often speak of an ocean of love that flows through our universe. Our stewardship campaign's theme this year is "Living Love". What might these beautiful abstractions look like in the concrete world of our daily lives? What if love is not just a feeling but is also something we do? How might we make love a verb?
Today we begin a brand-new sermon series on the Fruit of the Spirit from Galatians 5 called A Life Worth Living. We start with the first two fruits—love and joy. Love is the foundation on which everything else is built, and a life worth living is rooted in God's love. From that love flows true joy—a deep satisfaction found not in circumstances, but in our relationship with Him. Scripture: Galatians 5:22-23, Colossians 3:14, Romans 8:28-30
What does it mean to embody Christ, to be the living expression of his love in the world? In this inspiring episode, Stasi invites listeners to embrace our God-given design as image-bearers who carry his presence into our everyday moments. Through Scripture, story, and gentle guidance, Stasi shares how we reflect Jesus not by striving, but by receiving his love, blessing our lives, and living surrendered. Dear one, you matter, and your life reveals the heart of God.…..SHOW NOTES:…..VERSES: Ephesians 1:18–19 (NIV) – I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people, and his incomparably great power for us who believe.2 Corinthians 5:20 (NIV) – We are therefore Christ's ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ's behalf: Be reconciled to God.John 14:12 (NIV) – Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father.Romans 12:1 (NIV) – Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship.1 John 1:9 (NIV) – If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.Romans 8:1 (NIV) – Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.Ephesians 2:10 (NIV) – For we are God's handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.John 13:35 (NIV) – By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.2 Corinthians 3:18 (NIV) – And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord's glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.Philippians 2:13 (NIV) – For it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose.John 3:16 (NIV) – For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.……..RESOURCES"Apocalypse People: The discipleship movement that will probably change the world" by Blaine Eldredge https://wahe.art/4n7GhgCThe Ruthless Elimination of Hurry: How to Stay Emotionally Healthy and Spiritually Alive in the Chaos of the Modern World by John Mark Comer https://bit.ly/4ne2jOXPracticing the Way: Be with Jesus. “Neon Nostalgia, Real Talk & Radiant Pop”Prepare for an episode that sparkles as brightly as your favourite 80s mixtape! In this edition of My Music, Graham Coath is joined by the vivacious and refreshingly real Natalie Grey – a synth-pop powerhouse channelling the bold colours, unapologetic vibes, and defiant joy of icons like Madonna, Cyndi Lauper, and the Spice Girls. From coffee-protein shakes to childhood CD purchases (yes, Daphne & Celeste get a shoutout), Natalie takes us through her journey: from performing in tiny pubs to releasing high-energy tracks like Living Love that charted internationally – including, unexpectedly, in Brazil. But it's not all glitter and grooves. Natalie opens up about navigating the modern music scene with PTSD, the dark side of social media, and why she calls her condition a “needy friend.” Her story is a raw, inspiring reminder that strength and sparkle can coexist.

Let's get real about how our joy can change the world, even as it co-exists with our pain, brokenness and curmudgeon-ness. How we can commit to inciting joy and making it more robust? Our theme for April is Living Love through the Practice of Joy The post What Joy Can Do appeared first on First Unitarian Society of Minneapolis.
Living Love Pt. 2 (The Way I See It series) 7 Cornerstones of restoring a Biblical worldview: #5 - What is right and good is what is right and good in the eyes of God #6 - We are designed by God and for God #7 - When we live in obedience to God we experience success Rom 14:10-12 Mt 22:36-39 Jn 13:34 1) Sin ( lack of love) separates Gen 4:1-11 2) Sin ( lack of love) plugs the pipe Eph 5:30-33 1 Pet 3:1&7 Mt 5:23-24 “Those who love their dream of a Christian community more than they love the Christian community itself, become destroyers of that Christian community, even though their personal intentions may be ever so honest, earnest, and sacrificial” Dietrich Bonhoeffer Jn14: 34-35 3) Sin ( lack of love) causes hardening of the heart Ezek 36: 26-27 Heb 12:24 “Although my memory is fading, I remember two things very clearly: I am a great sinner and Christ is a great Saviour” John Newton
Rom 12:2 Cornerstones of a Biblical worldview: An orthodox, biblical understanding of God. All human beings are sinful by nature; every choice we make has moral considerations and consequences. Knowing Jesus Christ is the only means to salvation, through our confession of sin and reliance on His forgiveness. The entire Bible is true, reliable, and relevant, making it the best moral guide for every person, in all situations. Absolute moral truth exists—and those truths are defined by God, described in the Bible, and are unchanging across time and cultures. The ultimate purpose of human life is to know, love, and serve God with all your heart, mind, strength, and soul. Success on earth is best understood as consistent obedience to God—in thoughts, words, and actions. “Man's chief end is to glorify God and to enjoy Him forever” Westminster shorter Catechism 1) From the heart Pr 4:23 Mt 22:36-39 Jn 13:34 2) Loving God means loving others 1 Jn 4:19-21 3) Relationship is our natural state Gen 2:15-25 4) Fallen man fails at love SIN - separates/divides/damages Mt 19:4-8 5 Salvation secured a solution Romans 5:17-21

Welcome, Warriors, to another episode where we dive deep into the fruits of the Spirit, focusing today on love—how to actively embody this most crucial attribute in our daily lives. Today, we're drawing wisdom from Galatians 5:13.Our springboard for today's discussion is: Galatians 5:13 - "For you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another."This verse compels us to consider how our freedom in Christ is not merely for self-satisfaction but is meant to fuel our service to others through love. It reminds us that true freedom is exercised best through acts of selfless love.Let's Start With:* Identify Opportunities to Serve: Look around in your community, workplace, or family. Where is there a need that you can meet? Maybe someone is struggling and could use help with a practical task or just needs a listening ear.* Commit to Daily Acts of Kindness: Choose to perform at least one deliberate act of kindness each day. Whether it's paying for someone's coffee or sending an encouraging text, these small actions can have a big impact.* Encourage Others to Love: Love is contagious. By sharing how you've been able to love others, encourage your friends and family to do the same. Create a ripple effect of love in your circle of influence. Conclusion: Making love visible isn't just about grand gestures; it's about consistent, daily actions that speak loudly of the love God has shown us.Question of the Day: What is one way you can show love to someone in your life today?Growth Challenge: This month, take on the challenge of documenting your acts of love. Keep a journal of your actions and reflect on how these acts have affected not only those around you but also your own spiritual growth.Let's Pray: Lord, thank You for the freedom You have given us through Your love. Help us to use this freedom not for ourselves but to serve others in love. Guide us in practical ways to demonstrate Your love every day. Amen.Remember, Warriors, love is an action. Let's put our faith into practice and make love visible in every aspect of our lives. Let's get to work!My Reasons To Believe is a reader-supported publication. Christians are loved to love. A genuine love to God will evidence itself in the whole of the Christian's life through manifold motions of love in and to Christ's church. The redeemed life walks in Christ, and thus walks in love. The gospel received transforms sinners, uniting them to Christ. All in Christ live out Christ's love in their living, beginning with practical love to one another in His church. Paul makes this plain as he lists various traits of redeemed living. What might otherwise seem to be a disconnected assortment of virtues, is here ordered in and through love. Here the beauty of Christ's character is put on display in His people as they offer themselves as a living sacrifice, with a living love.

What does it mean to love God? And how can we know that we love Him? Unlike the common perception of love, as merely a feeling, the reality is love is more than just an emotion. In today's passage, we hear Jesus clearly explain what Love for Him truly entails: Through this talk, which continues through the book of John, we are reminded of how Jesus demonstrated the true definition of love, and encouraged to recognize the true meaning and immense benefit of loving Christ.
In this episode, we are reminded that a good tree bears good fruit, and that loving God will ultimately lead to loving others!

This week's episode of Igniting Imagination is a bit of a departure for us – for the first time, our guest is a politician! Yep, State Representative James Talarico. We decided that if we are going to do a season on Facing Reality and Claiming Leadership, we ought to directly address the polarization in our country – and where better than Texas politics!?! James Talarico, a lifelong Christian, active church member, and student at Austin Presbyterian Seminary while serving in the Texas House of Representatives, lives his deep faith in startling ways in his legislative work. If you find yourself disagreeing with his stances, then all the more, he wants to draw you into conversation and even collaboration. He lives a very biblical and profoundly challenging understanding of what it means to love your neighbor. We look forward to hearing your reactions. We pray it will spark new conversations for you, perhaps a new insight into God's call for you or your church. In this conversation, you'll hear:Why James is in seminary and how he navigates faith and politicsWhy polarization is the greatest challenge of our time and how people of faith can respondThe threat of Christian nationalism to the country and churchHow to lead in an environment of constant criticismStories of hope and making a difference at the local levelAbout James TalaricoRepresentative James Talarico is a former public school teacher first elected to serve in the Texas House of Representatives in 2018. Born in Round Rock, Rep. Talarico attended Wells Branch Elementary School and graduated from McNeil High School before earning degrees from The University of Texas at Austin and Harvard University. After college, he taught middle school on the Westside of San Antonio. He currently sits on the Public Education Committee, the Juvenile Justice and Family Issues Committee, and the Calendars Committee. As a former teacher, Rep. Talarico has worked to ensure all Texas students have access to a quality education. In his first term, he helped write the most significant reform to the state's school finance system in 20 years. He went on to pass major legislation to open up millions of dollars for student mental health and character education programs, establish the first-ever cap on Pre-K class sizes to reduce student-to-teacher ratios, and improve the quality and affordability of child care. As a type 1 diabetic, Rep. Talarico also passed historic legislation to cap insulin copays in Texas at $25 a month and import low-cost prescription drugs from Canada — dramatically reducing prescription drug costs for Texas patients. In addition, he passed laws to combat teen fentanyl overdoses, ban reality TV policing, increase accountability within the Texas Juvenile Justice Department, and give all incarcerated minors in Texas the opportunity to earn a high school diploma. For these accomplishments, Talarico was named one of the Top 10 Best Legislators by Texas Monthly magazine.Article by Adam Wren referenced in the episode can be accessed here. For many, the term "meditation" suggests merely a practice about attaining a more relaxed state and only represents a series of techniques about stress reduction. For the Initiate of the Mysteries of the Kingdom of Heaven however, meditation represents a Portal to the Divine, a Door in the Heavens leading to Realms Beyond, is a Bright Star in a Mystic Sky that turns into a Tunnel of Light or River of Divine Light that flows into the Eternal Ocean of God! (Gnosis) "A Light of utmost splendor glows on the eyes of my soul. Therein have I seen the inexpressible ordering of all things, and recognized God's unspeakable glory - that incomprehensible wonder - the tender caress between God and the soul... the unmingled joy of union, the Living Love of Eternity as it now is and evermore shall be." (The German Mystic Mechthild of Magdeburg, Flowing Light of the Godhead) "Now has Divine Light delivered me from captivity, and joined me by gentility to the Divine will of Love" (The French Mystic, Marguerite Porete, The Mirror of Simple Souls) "Those who transcend the realm of mind and the senses and enter the regions of Pure Spirit come to know, as a Living Reality, that dwelling within all forms of life, human and otherwise, is One Pure Light and Love... though encased in so many types of veils due to karmic impressions." (Baba Somanath) "This 'Single' or 'Third Eye' provides an ingress into the spiritual worlds - the Kingdom of God - now a lost realm to most of us... Of this inlet or ingress little is known by the people at large." (Sant Kirpal Singh) Swami Sant Sevi Ji: "What is the glorious destination that we are striving for? When we see darkness with our eyes closed we are in the realm of death and re-birth because we are not aware of our true nature. When we come out of the realm of darkness and enter into the Realm of Light, we will at the same time escape the web of death. If we remain in darkness it is not possible to be free from the cycle of birth and death. Only when we achieve the Inner Light - the Divine Light which represents the glory of the Divine - can we be liberated from the cycle of birth and death." (Peace) "Seek the refuge of the Satguru, O Dear One, for He will free you from your karmic debt. The entire world is consumed by forgetfulness and confusion. No one appreciates the unique message of the Saints. The unfortunate ones of this world are dominated by Maya [illusion], and they do not attain the Immaculate State. Those upon whom the Grace of the Primal Creator is showered, alone have the desire to drink the Nectar of Immortality." (Baba Somanath) "So, the point of telling you is that this Path, which has been sent by God Almighty Himself - the Surat Shabd Yoga [Inner Light and Sound Meditation Practice] - that can be attained only by initiation from a True Master... Therefore, all the Masters, at all times, have always talked and sung the praise of Surat Shabd. And that has been the message of the Masters in various yugas [epochs of time]... Therefore, when we are initiated by our Masters, it is necessary for us to get connected with the Shabd [the inner Light and Sound Current] every day - to do our meditation every day. And, by doing so, we are helping our Master to help us..." (Baba Ram Singh) Asks Kabir: "For Millions of Years You Have Slept, This Morning Will You Not Wake?" How can we dismantle walls of oppression and build communities rooted in belonging? In this episode Amisha talks to Jewels Wingfield, a catalyst, educator and healer. She lives and works in the middle of the Ancient 200,000 acre Forest of Dean, UK. Jewels is founder and director of ‘Living Love' and the creator of ‘EarthHeart', where she connects us with her unique methodology to catalyse humanities evolution reminding us of the interconnectedness of life. Jewels' work draws on a rich tapestry of wisdom and teachings, including earth based spirituality, sacred ecology/environmental work, shamanism from Celtic lore, ancestral gateways, the ecology of conscious relationship and sacred sexuality. She facilities grief work, ancient womb wisdom teachings, women's blood mysteries, ecstatic dance & somatic movement/meditation practices, birth, breath and regression work, NVC (non violent communication), drama therapy and more. Amisha and Jewels talk about how we may dismantle walls of systemic oppression to gather all of our pieces to overcome isolation, root into community and restore our sense of belonging. We hear how Jewel creates a life with nature on the margins of dominant culture. Jewels shares how she is bringing alive her inspiring vision that teaches us to thrive in our diverse differences and in relationship with the land. She reveals how her teachings nourish a form of autonomous reciprocal leadership that embeds us into nature, empathy and collective community. We learn that living and thriving with our diverse differences is a way of breaking through colonial legacies of mono crop culture. Links from this episode and more at allthatweare.org
