May 12th will mark the opening of the horse racing season at Assiniboia Downs, and in Episode 20 we speak with a perennial front-runner in the win column, jockey Antonio Whitehall!Part 1 has an overview of the kick-off luncheon, the notable attendees, and the remarks of the CEO of ASD, Darren Dunn. With the 69th season of live racing scheduled to open on Tuesday evening with the Don Gray Memorial, the new season is building on record-setting wagering and the best attendance in a decade in 2025, with both the excitement of the races and promotions like Family Fun Night drawing enthusiastic crowds of all ages.A key aspect of the evolution of the track has been scheduling race nights to Tuesday and Wednesday evenings, with six Mondays also on tap this year. That move eliminated the problem of competing for attendance with other sports and community events and “lake life” on the weekends, and ASD has grown their customer base substantially.Owned by the non-profit Manitoba Jockey Club since 1993, the importance of ASD to Manitoba's economic sector includes, on the agriculture side, support for the stables with breeding and training, grooms and exercise riders, feed and equipment. In terms of staging the races and events, the facility employs hundreds of people as service personnel, chefs, cooks, security and at the betting windows. ASD also provides substantial support to local charities and causes. The revitalization of the facility has been achieved through a joint partnership with Peguis First Nation, and CEO Darren Dunn says it all reflects on how the Downs “is part of the cultural fabric of the community since 1958- and we're very proud of that.” Their pride is also reflected in the race results as over the past 17 years, “thirteen of the annual leading trainers have been of indigenous heritage.”9.58 Part 2- Antonio Whitehall is an engaging and personable athlete who truly loves his work and the fans of the King of Sports.Since arriving at ASD in 2016 from Barbados, he has become a dominant rider with three titles as top jockey and is in demand at other tracks. He's been in the money (top three spots) with over 50% of his mounts and has earned $5.6 million for the horse owners.Whitehall cites his relationship with the trainers as an important factor in his success.“We get along pretty good because I'm a hard worker. I go out there every morning and work out the horse and give them honest feedback. They trust me with their horses and I'm grateful and thankful for the opportunity. It's like I was meant to be here.”He talks with Marty Gold about his background in Barbados, his accomplishments and "dream year" in 2020, and the great owners, trainers, stablehands and staff who come together to make ASD a model venue for the athletes, owners and fans.“They come here, they feel safe here, it's friendly, free admission… it's a beautiful place to come out in the evening, enjoy your time, place a few bets, watch the horses go around.  It's a beautiful place to be, the atmosphere, the staff are phenomenal.” Whitehall enjoys meeting with the fans, mentioning giving kids goggles and posing for photos. “I do it for the game, for the love of the sport- and for the love of Assiniboia Downs.”The conversation takes a turn as the subject of this year's Kentucky Derby and the tremendous run down the stretch by the winning horse, Golden Tempo, is discussed.Among the highlights of the season will be the 50th running of the Golden Boy Stakes and the marquee event, the 2026 Manitoba Derby on Monday, August 3rd. With the on-site food and games, the spectacle of competition, and the potential of picking a winning ticket, there's never been a better time to Do the Downs than this year. The Original Loretta Brown Show

Today, Loretta welcomes Dr. Scott Taylor who is a pioneer in the exploration of consciousness and near-death experiences, uniquely bridging the worlds of personal experience, academic research, and spiritual teaching. His life changed dramatically following a shared-death experience (SDE) in which he simultaneously perceived himself present in the physical world and in the Light with loved ones transitioning beyond. This extraordinary moment became the foundation of a decades-long journey to understand the nature of consciousness, the nonphysical universe, and what lies beyond death.Dr. Taylor has served as President and Executive Director of The Monroe Institute, where he trained individuals in expanded states of awareness using binaural beat technology. Podcast Series: Don't Panic It's Just DataGuest: Mark Duffy, Senior Director, Artificial Intelligence & Analytics at Cognizant and Mark Blake, FSI Industry Practice Lead, Stibo SystemsHost: Scott Taylor, The Data Whisperer and Principal Consultant, MetaMeta ConsultingArtificial intelligence (AI) is prevalent in the insurance industry now, but many firms are not seeing the results they expected. The issue isn't with the AI models; it's pertinent to the data.In the recent episode of the Don't Panic It's Just Data podcast, host Scott Taylor, The Data Whisperer and Principal Consultant at MetaMeta Consulting, is joined by Mark Duffy, Senior Director, Artificial Intelligence & Analytics at Cognizant and Mark Blake, FSI Industry Practice Lead at Stibo Systems. The data industry experts address a key misunderstanding about enterprise AI – that companies can innovate their way out of poor data quality. “Some people think AI is a quick fix for data governance,” said host Scott Taylor. “If I need better data, I just use AI.” Experts warn that this belief is what's holding insurers back. How Frankenstein Data is Impacting AI?Despite significant investments in AI, cloud, and analytics, many insurers remain stuck in pilot mode. According to Mark Blake of Stibo Systems, the problem is the infrastructure. “AI itself isn't the challenge,” he said. “It's the ability to scale it, and that comes back to fixing the data.”In reality, most insurance enterprises face fragmented, siloed data across systems. Customer, policy, claims, and product data often don't align. This results in what Taylor calls “Frankenstein data,” where inconsistent records lead to unreliable outputs. For AI to function effectively at scale, insurers need trusted, governed, and unified data. That's where data governance and master data management (MDM) come in.“For us to truly gain benefits from AI, the end user really has to trust the data,” stated Mark Duffy of Cognizant. “That trust comes from having the right data foundation in place.”Also Watch: Can Your MDM Strategy Survive the Shift to Real-Time AI Decision-Making?How Master Data Management (MDM) Unlocks Scalable AI?One of the key drivers of AI success in insurance is multi-domain master data management, a system that connects core business data across the enterprise. “You always have to have a starting point,” Blake explained. “Then you expand horizontally across the enterprise.”The “horizontal data layer” enables insurers to unify key entities like customers, products, and partners—often referred to as the “nouns of the business.” When these are standardised, AI models can work consistently and accurately. The business impact is substantial, including more accurate underwriting decisions, reduced claims leakage, improved customer experience and retention and better cross-sell and upsell opportunities. Duffy shared a real-world example in which enhancing data management directly sped up AI adoption. “It gave them trust in the data,” he said. “They could run models faster and gain more value because they weren't constantly fixing issues.”Instead of spending 80 per cent of their time cleaning data, teams could finally focus on using it.Why AI Is Coercing a Data Strategy ResetFor years, data governance struggled to gain executives' support, but now AI has shifted that.“There's been a refocus,” Blake said. “They're looking at data in a way they maybe haven't done historically.”Today, AI is a priority for boards, driving alignment among CIOs, CDOs, and IT enterprise leaders. “Every C-suite executive wants to do more AI,” Duffy said. “But they've realised they can't do that without the data foundation.”Still, some enterprises believe AI can fix poor data quality. Experts warn that this is a mistake. “You can use AI to support data quality,” Duffy said. “But you're not going to use AI to build an MDM solution.”What's the Solution to Frankenstein DataAs insurers develop their AI strategies for the next 12 to 24 months, one key ideology was spotlighted – success depends less on speed and more on structure. “Go back to the root cause,” Blake said to Taylor. “Fix that, and then you can move forward with confidence.”In other words, AI highlights the need for strong data foundations; it doesn't eradicate them. For insurers serious about AI transformation, that's no longer optional—it's where they must begin. Also Watch: From Chaos to Launch: Your Product is Ready, Your Data Isn'tKey TakeawaysAI in insurance fails without strong data governance and quality foundations.Master Data Management (MDM) is critical for scaling AI across insurance enterprises.Fragmented “siloed data” is the biggest barrier to AI adoption in insurance.Trusted, unified customer and policy data improves AI accuracy and business outcomes.AI cannot fix bad data—insurers must modernise data management first.Chapters00:00 Introduction to AI Readiness in Insurance03:08 The Importance of Data Foundations06:02 Challenges of Fragmented Data09:06 Modernising Data Foundations for AI11:56 Real-World Use Cases in Insurance15:03 The Role of Master Data Management17:56 Aligning Business and Data Strategies21:06 Final Thoughts on AI and Data GovernanceFor more information, please visit em360tech.com and stibosystems.com.To learn more about AI in the MDM space and how they're progressing enterprise analytics intelligently, follow:Stibo Systems LinkedIn: @StiboSystemsStibo Systems X: @StiboSystemsStibo Systems YouTube: @StiboSystemsGlobalEM360Tech YouTube: @enterprisemanagement360EM360Tech LinkedIn: @EM360TechEM360Tech X: @EM360Tech#MasterDataManagement #DataGovernance #AIinInsurance #EnterpriseTech #BigData #DataStrategy #AIReadiness #InsuranceTechnology #cioinsights #StiboSystems #frankensteindatamaster data management, MDM, data governance, AI strategy, insurance, enterprise technology, big data, chief data officer, CDO, CIO, data quality, data unification, Stibo Systems, Scott Taylor, Mark Duffy, Mark Blake

What if the boundary between life and death isn't as fixed as we believe—and some people are able to share in the final moments of another's passing? In this profound and deeply moving episode, Scott Taylor explores the mysterious phenomenon known as shared-death experiences—events in which individuals report witnessing or participating in aspects of a loved one's transition from life to death. Through compelling accounts and thoughtful analysis, Scott discusses how these experiences often include visions, sensations, or a powerful sense of connection that transcends the physical world. For those who have lived through them, shared-death experiences can be life-changing, offering comfort, meaning, and a radically different understanding of what death truly represents. This episode raises profound questions about consciousness, connection, and the nature of reality itself. Are these experiences psychological responses to grief, or do they point to something more—an interconnected awareness that extends beyond the body? And what can they teach us about love, loss, and the continuity of the human spirit? Join us for a powerful and compassionate conversation that explores one of the most intimate and mysterious aspects of the human experience—where the end of one life may open a window into something far greater.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-x-zone-radio-tv-show--1078348/support.Please note that all XZBN radio and/or television shows are Copyright © REL-MAR McConnell Meda Company, Niagara, Ontario, Canada – www.rel-mar.com. And if you're missing your loved ones in spirit even as you celebrate the holidays, this episode may be the one you need to hear. My guest, Scott Taylor, shares how a spontaneous and deeply spiritual event helped him navigate tragic loss and healed him in ways he could never have imagined. Here's a preview of Scott's story and the episode:In 1981, Scott Taylor's life was changed forever when his girlfriend Mary Fran and her son Nolan were fatally injured from a car accident. As 7-year-old Nolan lay dying, Scott witnessed Mary Fran's spirit escort Nolan to the Other Side. As this transpired, Scott's consciousness spontaneously joined them, resulting in the most profoundly transformative experience of Scott's life. Decades later, Scott teaches others how to access expanded states of consciousness and profound spiritual healing. The challenge all organisations, big and small, face is answering and implementing solutions to solve this key question: How can finance and accounting teams work faster, smarter and more accurately? In the recent episode of the Don't Panic It's Just Data podcast, host Scott Taylor, The Data Whisperer and Principal Consultant at MetaMeta Consulting, speaks with Kevin Gibson, CPA and Principal Solutions Engineer at insightsoftware. They talk about the constantly changing nature of financial reporting. Additionally, they discuss the pros and cons of modern financial reporting and the importance of connecting financial data with familiar tools like Excel. The conversation also touches on the future of financial reporting technology and the need for organisations to adapt to changing data access needs.Uncertainty in a Data-Driven World“With all this uncertainty, companies are being asked to look at their data in different ways. They want to pivot it, slice it, and dice it,” Gibson tells Taylor, encapsulating the theme of this episode. “They're being told to do more with the data — what does it mean, how do we read it, how do we understand it, how do we analyse it?”The issue is that, as enterprises invest in digital transformation, finance teams struggle most with limited access to the data they need to support their analysis.“The ideal state,” Gibson adds, “would be: I can get what I want, when I want, and how I want it — without asking questions. But let's be honest — that doesn't exist today.”However, the good news is the data exists, Gibson says. The ugly part is that organisations can't get to it. Many of the data accessibility issues have been attributed to cloud migration. “When you move your data to the cloud, you think: it's cheaper, it's more secure, it's easier to maintain. But here's the problem: you don't control it anymore. Some cloud providers make access difficult or costly. So finance teams feel stuck,” he explains. Also Watch: Stop Fighting Excel: How to Turn Your Spreadsheets into a Real-Time Reporting Powerhouse?Real-Time Access on ExcelFor decades, finance professionals have relied on Excel, which Gibson refers to as the “largest data warehouse in the world.” “There are 1.1 billion users of Excel today,” he says. “And let's be honest, I haven't met an accountant yet who says they hate it.” Finance prospers in Excel, but IT often views it as a risk. This leads to a constant back-and-forth between usability and control. Gibson believes that the solution is to equip both sides- finance and IT with real-time, governed data inside Excel. That's where insightsoftware comes in. “We can connect directly to these systems and give finance teams back their real-time access — not just to pieces of data, but all of it,” says Gibson. “Literally every piece of data can be accessed.” With tools like Spreadsheet Server, finance professionals can work in Excel — their “comfort food,” as Gibson calls it — while drawing directly from live ERP data in the cloud. “We give them insight — that's what our software does. It gives them visibility into their data. Excel isn't going away, and our job is to make it work even better.”To learn more, watch or listen to the podcast...

How a helpless baby bird protects itself from hungry huntersThere's not a more vulnerable creature in nature than a baby bird. Tiny and immobile, they're easy pickings for predators. But the chicks of the white-necked jacobin hummingbird have evolved a unique defence. They disguise themselves as poisonous caterpillars to discourage those that might eat them. Jay Falk, an NSF postdoctoral fellow at the University of Colorado and Scott Taylor, director of the Mountain Research Station and associate professor at the University of Colorado, studied these birds in Panama. Their research was published in the journal Ecology.Seals have a sense of their oxygen levels, which makes them better diversSeals can dive at length to tremendous depth thanks to some remarkable adaptations, like the ability to collapse their lungs, and radically lower their heart rate. Chris McKnight, a senior research fellow at the University of St Andrews Sea Mammal Research Unit in Scotland, led a study looking to see if tweaking oxygen and C02 levels changed the seals' dive times. The researchers discovered that the seals have the unique ability to measure the oxygen levels in their tissues, so they can anticipate when they need to return to the surface before they get into trouble. The research was published in the journal Science.Fruit flies can show a playful sideAs the joke goes, time flies like an arrow, fruit flies like a banana. Researchers recently demonstrated that fruit flies enjoy more than just aged produce. Using a custom carousel built to fly scale, scientists found that some, but not all, of their fruit flies would play on it, enjoying an activity that had nothing to do with the necessities of life. This brings up the possibility  of variability in personality for fruit flies. Wolf Hütteroth is an associate professor at Northumbria  University, Newcastle and was part of the team, whose research was published in the journal Current Biology.Scaring krill with a dose of penguin pooKrill, the small, shrimp-like creatures that swarm the world's oceans and are particularly abundant in southern oceans, play a big role in marine food webs, connecting microscopic organisms with many of the oceans' larger animal species. Researchers in Australia investigated how krill respond to predator cues, like the smell of their feces. Nicole Hellessey, from the University of Tasmania, said the mere whiff of penguin feces affects the Antarctic krills' feeding behaviour and causes them to take frantic evasive action. The study is published in the journal Frontiers in Marine Science. Fossils tell us what dinosaurs were. How do we know what they did? Dinosaur bones can tell amazing stories about these prehistoric beasts, but how do we piece together how they behaved? A new book dives into the many lines of evidence that can shed light on the behaviour of these extinct creatures. From fossils, to tracks they left behind, to their modern day descendents, paleontologist David Hone from Queen Mary University of London explores how scientists develop robust theories about how dinosaurs lived in his new book, Uncovering Dinosaur Behavior: What They Did and How We Know.

It's Monday, March 31st, A.D. 2025. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard on 125 radio stations and at www.TheWorldview.com.  I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Adam McManus Christian pastor's body found after he described recent death threats Pastor Praveen Pagadala, a renowned Christian evangelist and apologist, has been found dead under suspicious circumstances in the south Indian state of Andhra Pradesh, weeks after expressing concerns for his safety, reports The Christian Post. The 46-year-old pastor, who is survived by his wife and two young children, was traveling from Hyderabad to Rajahmundry when he was discovered lifeless along a roadside in the early hours of the morning last Tuesday. Reports indicate that he had recently shared concerns about threats to his life, particularly stemming from his outspoken defense of Christianity and criticism of other religions, according to Open Doors UK, which noted that he had attended a prayer meeting the day before his sudden death. It's our prayer at The Worldview that this sobering story, and others like it, will motivate you to make every day count for God, living each one as though it were your last. Psalm 90:12 states, "Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom."  Appeals court rules DOGE can continue operating at USAID A federal appeals court on Friday granted the Trump administration's motion to extend a stay allowing the Department of Government Efficiency to continue operating at the United States Agency for International Development, reports Fox News. That's great news since DOGE has already saved the taxpayers $130 billion which is $807.45 per taxpayer. Appearing on Fox News, Daniel Cameron, a Republican candidate for U.S. Senate in Kentucky, was thrilled. CAMERON: “It is a fantastic win for the Trump administration and their perseverance! “Unconventional doesn't necessarily mean unconstitutional. USAID has become a haven for the radical Left. We want to see a president that is cutting waste, fraud and abuse. “As a conservative, we've been talking about this for 30 years. Ronald Reagan started it, and Donald Trump is going to get the job done.” Last week, U.S. District Judge Theodore Chuang, a federal judge in Maryland appointed by Democrat Barack Obama, ruled that efforts by the Department of Government Efficiency to halt USAID functions were likely unconstitutional, ordering its reinstatement. Thankfully, last Tuesday, a federal appeals court in Richmond, Virginia issued a stay, temporarily blocking the judge's order that prohibited DOGE from working with USAID. 2,000 young people in Illinois Pro-Life March Last Tuesday, March 25th, 2,000 pro-lifers – primarily teenagers and young adults – walked down the streets of Springfield, Illinois in the Illinois Pro-Life March, reports LifeSiteNews.com.  Unlike the dozen scowling pro-abortion protestors, who promoted abortion as so-called “healthcare” at the corner of Capitol Avenue and Second Street, the pro-life young people were cheering, dancing, singing, smiling, laughing, and praying. Oceana Huang, a freshman at Sacred Heart-Griffin High School, was enthusiastic. HUANG: “I came out here because I think it's important to give a voice to the voiceless. And I love seeing loads of people come together for a common cause.” Proverbs 31:8 says, “Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute.” MALE PRO-LIFE MARCHER: “I feel like that, as a community, we should help these unborn children have a life.” Ella Timmermann, a junior at Sacred Heart-Griffin High School, spoke to God's plans. TIMMERMAN: “I firmly believe that everybody should have a chance to grow up into the blessings that God has given us, and I believe that God sets us out for a purpose into the world.” Ephesians 2:10 says, “For we are God's handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” MALE PRO-LIFE MARCHER: “I came out here today because life's important. Once we forget about the importance of the sanctity of human life, we forget about the sanctity of every moral aspect of our life.” Hummingbird chicks observed pretending to be caterpillars to avoid being eaten And finally, when Jay Falk and Scott Taylor first saw the white-necked Jacobin hummingbird chick in Panama's dense rainforest, the biologists did not know what they were looking at, reports the GoodNewsNetwork.org. The day-old bird, smaller than a pinky finger, had brown fuzz all over its body. When Falk and Taylor walked closer to the nest, the chick began twitching and shaking its head—a behavior they had never seen in birds before. It turns out the hummingbird might fend off predators by mimicking a poisonous caterpillar that lives in the same region. In a new paper published March 17 in Ecology, Taylor, an associate professor at the University of Colorado Boulder, described this unusual mimicry behavior found for the first time in hummingbirds. TAYLOR: “When we looked at the nest and saw how strange this baby hummingbird looked, we thought this looks exactly like a caterpillar. So, some caterpillars cover themselves with urticating hairs, which, when touched, they can be really painful and even cause nausea in humans. When the white-necked Jacobin chick hatched, we noticed that its long, fluffy down feathers could make it look dangerous to predators, just like these caterpillars. “Tropical forests are filled with mysteries and discoveries waiting to happen. Our findings show that every detail can reveal something extraordinary.” Scientists refer to this survival strategy of mimicking a harmful species as Batesian mimicry. For example, some non-venomous milk snakes have developed a pattern of red, yellow and black coloring similar to that of venomous coral snakes to ward off predators. Taylor said, “A lot of these really classic examples of Batesian mimicry involve butterflies mimicking other butterflies, or snakes mimicking other snakes. But here, we have a bird potentially mimicking an insect, a vertebrate mimicking an invertebrate.” Well, Answers in Genesis, the creation science group known for its Ark Encounter in Kentucky, said, “The origin of mimicry has always been troublesome for evolutionary dogma. Mimicry occurs in numerous groups of animals and provides a benefit to at least the mimic. However, according to many evolutionists, such as Richard Dawkins, evolution is merely a string of unordered events with ‘no purpose in mind.' Given Dawkins' belief system, mimicry is indeed a significant problem for the evolutionists.” Job 12:7-10 says, “But now ask the beasts, and they will teach you; and the birds of the air, and they will tell you; or speak to the Earth, and it will teach you; and the fish of the sea will explain to you. Who among all these does not know that the hand of the Lord has done this, in whose hand is the life of every living thing, and the breath of all mankind?” Including the white-necked Jacobin hummingbird chick!
