Religions teach nothing about actual sexuality, biology and why our bodies work as they do. In this talk Dr. Ray will be discussing some basic facts about sex, evolution and human sexuality, like why is the penis shaped as it is? What is it with all those sperm males produce? What is sexual dimorphism? Are we chimps, gorillas or bonobos? We breed cows, chickens and other animals, could we be breeding ourselves as well? Learning the science of sex can help you make your own decisions about your sexuality and help you throw away the 3,000 year old ideas found in religious indoctrination. Premiered Jan 20, 2021 Dr. Darrel Ray returns to RfRx to tell us about “Religious Trauma, Its Roots and Its Treatments.” Religious abuse is the root of religious trauma and often goes unrecognized by therapists and clients alike. Children raised in toxic environments do not know it is toxic; it just seems normal to them. When they experience symptoms later in life, failure to identify the root cause leads to inappropriate treatments. Appropriate identification and treatment can often lead to rapid improvement and positive outcomes. Misidentification can lead to years of frustration and inappropriate treatment. We hope to encourage people in the process of deconstructing their faith and help curb the loneliness that accompanies it. We think the world is a better place when more people live by sight, not by faith. Please subscribe to our podcast, and leave a review wherever you listen to podcasts. Encore release September 3, 2018. Encore release May 27, 2017.   We interview Dr. Darrel Ray, author of Sex and God: How Religion Distorts Sexuality (paperback or Kindle). Dr. Ray is also the author of The God Virus and founder of the group Recovering from Religion. For more visit TheGodVirus.net, IPCPress.com, or RecoveringfromReligion.com. Also: A recent poll shows that, incredibly, only a tiny minority of likely Republican voters in Mississippi and Alabama believe that President Obama is a Christian. Fully 88% of Mississippi Republicans either believe he is a Muslim or say they are unsure what religion he practices. The numbers are only slightly better in Alabama. And speaking of Alabama...he's b-a-a-a-ck! Roy Moore, the former Chief Justice of the Alabama Supreme Court, who was removed from office a few years ago for refusing to uninstall a massive Ten Commandments monument he had placed in the Supreme Court building, is seeking re-election and has just won the Republican primary. He assures us he has no intention of revisiting the Ten Commandments issue. Which makes us feel so much better. Giveaway! Richard Dawkins will be speaking in metro Atlanta on Tuesday, March 27th. "An Evening with Richard Dawkins" is sold out, but we have a pair of tickets to give away. Join our Facebook group or email your name and cellphone number to john@americanfreethought.com for a chance to win. A winner will be randomly selected on March 24th. John will meet you at the venue to give you your tickets, so please don't email if you are not absolutely certain you can make it. And for those will a little cash on-hand, there will be a private fundraising reception at an Atlanta location to be announced with Richard Dawkins and Sean Faircloth on Wednesday, March 28th. Contributions for attendees starts at $1,000 for individuals and $1,500 for couples. Email Sean Faircloth at sean.faircloth@richarddawkins.net. "Hey Cooper... tell us how you really feel!" "Well alright then."  We've discussed organized religion and how it's affected our own relationship with sexuality, how it influences our community as a whole and... at times, indelicately pointed out where we take issue with its monopoly on morality and its right to judge what's acceptable and what's not.  We finally said fuck it, threw up our arms, and invited Darrel Ray, author of the books The God Virus: How Religion Affects Our Lives and Culture, and Sex and God: How Religion Distorts Sexuality to join us for a discussion on how we really feel, what we see on a day to day basis, and how we can move forward and still live and love those who believe, even if we disagree.
