The Divorcing Religion Podcast is an incredibly valuable resource for individuals who have left or are in the process of leaving their religious belief systems. Hosted by Janice, this podcast provides a safe space for listeners to share their experiences, process their emotions, and find solace in knowing that they are not alone on this journey of healing and self-discovery.
One of the best aspects of The Divorcing Religion Podcast is the relatability of Janice as a host. Her own personal experience of leaving a fundamentalist belief system allows her to truly understand and empathize with her listeners. Whether it's the trauma caused by manipulative teachings or the guilt and fear associated with walking away from one's religion, Janice can relate to the struggles faced during this challenging time. This relatability creates a sense of camaraderie among listeners and fosters a supportive community where everyone can feel understood and validated.
Another great aspect of this podcast is its in-depth coverage of various topics related to leaving religion. Janice tackles subjects such as religious trauma, societal pressures, spiritual abuse, and navigating relationships post-religion. The episodes are well-researched, providing valuable insights and information that can aid listeners in their healing journey. Additionally, guest interviews add diverse perspectives and allow for a broader understanding of the experiences shared by those who have divorced themselves from their religious backgrounds.
While The Divorcing Religion Podcast excels in many ways, there are some areas that could be improved upon. Firstly, the frequency of new episodes could be more consistent. It would be beneficial for listeners if episodes were released on a regular schedule to maintain engagement with the podcast community. Additionally, having transcripts available for each episode would make the content more accessible to those who prefer reading or may have hearing impairments.
In conclusion, The Divorcing Religion Podcast is an invaluable resource for anyone navigating life after leaving a religious belief system. It provides comfort, understanding, and guidance to individuals who may feel isolated or overwhelmed in their journey. Janice's relatability as a host, the depth of topics covered, and the sense of community fostered make this podcast a must-listen for those seeking support and validation outside of their religious upbringing.

Hip-Hop Artist Seven J - Betrayed by ChristianityDIVORCED: ChristianityTW: Discussion of suicidal ideationRaised in the heart of Jacksonville, FL, amidst the grit and hustle of the city's most notorious zip code, Seven J emerged as a powerhouse in the world of hip-hop. With a resume that boasts performances in iconic venues from Los Angeles to New York, Seven J has left his mark on stages worldwide. From the legendary Apollo Theater to the vibrant streets of Jamaica, his electrifying presence has enraptured audiences and earned him acclaim at every turn. Seven was a deeply trusting child, making him vulnerable to the promises of Christianity. His musical talent and compassion for others set him apart as a believer– but the racism he experienced INSIDE the Church as an employee was the spark needed to truly examine the faith he'd devoted his entire life to.While Divorcing Christianity has been disorienting for Seven, making music has been a powerful part of his recovery. He holds nothing back on his album, Sunday Mourning, with songs like If Your God is So Good, BulletZ, and I Lost Everything. Malkie Schwartz - From Fundy to Freedom FighterDivorced: Ultra-orthodox JudaismIn her early 20s, Malkie Schwartz chose to leave her ultra-orthodox Jewish community. Within 3 years, she founded Footsteps, the first organization in North America to help people who wish to leave the ultra-Orthodox Jewish community and live in mainstream society. Footsteps gained notoriety in 2017, with the release of the Netflix documentary “One of Us.” To date, Footsteps has served over 1300 individuals. Malkie is also co-founder and board member of the Rights and Religions Forum. In 2023, the Rights and Religions Forum (RARF) launched the Borgenicht Fellowship Program for Community Leaders. This first-of-its-kind program connects a diverse cohort of leaders who are challenging religious oppression and supporting the ability of individuals raised in insular religious groups to make personal choices and lead lives that reflect their personal values and beliefs. I met Malkie when a Footsteps representative reached out to me in 2021 interested in sending a Footsteps contingent to the inaugural Conference on Religious Trauma (CORT), and today I am proud to be a Borgenicht Fellow. In this episode, Malkie shares about leaving her insular community, why she started Footsteps, and the importance of groups like RARF, who rely on generous donations to provide support for others who are Divorcing Religion.RESOURCES MENTIONED:https://rarforum.org/https://www.footstepsorg.org/Janice's Best-selling book Divorcing Religion: A Memoir and Survival Handbook is now available inUSA https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0DP78TZZF and CANADA https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B0DP78TZZFEarly Bird tickets are now available for the Shameless Sexuality: Life After Purity Culture conference, happening LIVE in Seattle May 23-25, 2025! Jason Pollick - Confessions of a Former PriestDivorced: ChristianityJason was an atheist as a teenager, so he was as surprised as anyone when he had a spiritual experience that told him to become a priest. He tried to avoid this call, but eventually became an Anglican priest, a vocation he lived for 12 years. After being diagnosed with PTSD in 2019 because of his experiences in the church, he spent 2 years on disability for mental health reasons. During that time, he began to question his faith and discovered he could no longer support the idea of a loving god who guided the course of history. Jason regained his freedom of thought, embraced his atheism and relinquished his clerical orders. Jason is now a registered social worker in Ontario. He works in private practice as a therapist, offering virtual sessions throughout Ontario, and in-person session in downtown Ottawa. Jason still describes himself as spiritual, and works mainly with people from across the spectrum of religious and non-religious spiritual expression.FIND JASON: www.JasonPollick.comEarly Bird tickets are now available for the Shameless Sexuality: Life After Purity Culture conference, happening LIVE in Seattle May 23-25, 2025!
