This episode of the Abundant Life podcast delves into the profound journey of Cody Bentley, a former member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS) who has transitioned to a born-again Christian. The discussion, guided by hosts Saso and Ben, emphasizes the contrast between the doctrines of Mormonism and traditional Christianity, particularly focusing on the notion of grace. Cody recounts his upbringing within the LDS faith, highlighting a performance-based relationship with God that left him feeling spiritually malnourished. He shares his struggles with addiction and the burdens of guilt that permeated his life as he sought fulfillment through works rather than faith. The podcast explores the pivotal moment when Cody discovered the freedom and assurance found in a relationship with Jesus Christ, which allowed him to break free from the cycles of shame and guilt that had characterized his previous religious experience. Through heartfelt dialogue, the hosts and Cody reflect on the transformative power of grace and the importance of a genuine connection with Jesus, contrasting it with the institutional emphasis found in the LDS Church. The episode presents a candid exploration of Cody's spiritual metamorphosis, detailing how he transitioned from a life steeped in the doctrines of Mormonism to embracing the teachings of Christianity. Central to this transformation is the realization that salvation is not contingent upon human efforts but is a gift of grace received through faith in Jesus Christ. Cody articulates the stark differences in his understanding of God, moving from a performance-driven faith to one marked by unconditional love and acceptance. The discussion touches on the challenges faced by those leaving the LDS Church, where adherence to doctrines can lead to a fear of losing community and identity. Cody's journey serves as a beacon of hope for others who may find themselves questioning their faith and seeking a deeper, more fulfilling relationship with God. The hosts encourage listeners to reflect on their own beliefs and consider the liberating message of the Gospel, which offers assurance and peace through faith alone.Takeaways: The journey from Mormonism to Christianity encompasses profound spiritual transformations and a discovery of grace that is no found in any other religion. Key differences exist between the concepts of salvation in Mormonism and traditional Christianity, particularly regarding grace and works. Post-Mormon life often entails navigating relationships with family and friends who remain within the LDS faith, presenting unique challenges. Experiencing a genuine relationship with Jesus can lead to significant personal growth and healing, as evidenced by Cody's transformation. The importance of scripture, particularly the Bible, is emphasized as a source of truth and assurance for believers transitioning from Mormonism. Understanding the differences in the definitions of familiar terms in both faiths is crucial for meaningful dialogue and connection. Grief is a beast and adding a post-Mormon layer makes it even more confusing and complicated. After Maddy's dad died, she has deconstructed not only her ideas of death, but also of life. We speak about the ways Mormons tend to handle loss and how Maddy's approach has been vastly different. There are no easy answers, but there is a lot of discovery, hope and life along the way. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/hayley-rawle/support

Let's dive into religious scrupulosity and the Doug Fabrizio's Radio West Episode last week. Radio West is a Salt Lake City radio/podcast show. I was a bit triggered by a few things said by a guest on last weeks show and I want to talk about it, what it means and what it may mean to you. Working your way out of religious scrupulosity is possible. For many it stops the minute your religious beliefs dissipate, for others it may take years to unravel. Either way, I want to talk about what is happening for those of us who tend towards the scrupulous ways of religiously believing, even when we did not know it was a thing that was happening to and within us.
Wildflower, you have a life to live and a brain to guide you to whatever it is you desire. On The Unorthodox Woman Podcast, I show you how to do just that, be your own brain guide. While I know that the title of this episode may sound like I want to take on the whole affirmation community (if that is a thing), that is not the case. I do believe there is a missing step in the process of how we have been taught to do affirmations. So, this week, I want to teach you the missing piece and speed up the process of getting you to what you want to believe about yourself. This way you get to where you want to go with your life a whole lot quicker! If nothing else, you get to the beliefs you want to believe in a more holistic, moving way, sustainable way.

In this episode, Mormonish Podcast cohosts Rebecca and Landon visit with Nathan Smith of "Mind Makes This World Podcast." Nathan is an absolutely wonderful and unique individual! As a teenager he was actually an apologist for Fair Mormon and helped provide answers to many people who were struggling with their faith. During that time he went through his own faith transition, yet still decided to serve an LDS mission. While on his mission, he had many life-changing experiences that resulted in PTSD and some pretty serious trauma. Finding his way back from that led Nathan to explore eastern spiritual practices and the healing art of meditation. Nathan eventually started his ownn podcast, "Mind Makes This World Podcast" where he explores all of these practices and concepts. Experiencing your high demand religion initial shelf break and subsequent faith crisis is so hard! It is emotional, earth shattering and very overwhelming. Just when you think you are starting to get your footing and everything will be okay, you get hit with another shelf break. About a month or so ago, a friend, a former Jehovah Witness friend, asked me a really great question, Is Healing An Illusion? I loved this questiong so much that I created a podcast around it. Let's dive into when healing does feel like an illusion and why and what you can do about it so you do not get stuck in the pain of reliving your pain/trauma again and again and again. There is healing in telling/sharing your story, it can be freeing in just doing that, sharing, telling your story to a therapist or friend. Does your story come out the same way again and again? Do you judge yourself for not having "healed" faster? Is there a time limit on when you are supposed to be healed? In this episode I deep dive into the concept of healing and what we think it should look like and what healing actually looks like AND how you can be an active participant to your own healing, possibly speeding up the process. If you feel like you are on an emotional roller coaster of emotions all the time or that your healing is taking way too long, then this episode of Exmormonology is a very important one for you to listen to Wildflower.
This week in Exmormonology Land I have invited Emily Robinette over for a conversation. We talk about all things faith crisis; the freedom we feel post faith crisis and also the rocky road we navigate after we leave the church, ie. high demand religion. You know that Exmormonology is all about helping you heal and work through religious trauma. Healing is not linear. It has ups and downs and joy and pain. Come be a fly on the wall while we discuss it all. Emily had her initial faith crisis in 2019 and has spent the last several years working through the tough issues that we all have to work through in finding our way back to ourselves, after the world as we knew it comes crashing down around us. You, wildflower, are not alone on this journey. Keep going. Keep healing. Keep showing up for yourself.

Sandra Tanner, What can I possibly write in the description of this podcast to put words to the profound experience this was to interview you in your legendary Lighthouse Ministry? There are no words. There is only a feeling of "home". A feeling of sitting across from, what I can only say, felt like my Grandmother or Mother explaining to me with love and "silent empowerment" what my heart needed to hear. You were the first in-person interview I ever recorded on my own. It was in a time where I was hurting from being "excommunicated" from a couple post-mormon spaces that was causing more pain then being "excommunicated" from the Mormon church. You accepted the invitation for an interview at your ministry with open arms and gave me advice on faith, love, Patriarchy (Mormon and Post-Mormon), using my voice and being a mother while in this unique space. You gave me hope. You showed me love. You made me curious of building a new relationship with Jesus again. I will be forever grateful for what you did for all of us before Google! Before 2 clicks got you to unknown and hidden truths! You had to study and dig into archives, in person, for months and years for what we now have at our fingertips. We owe you so much, yet at 81 years-old you are still the one giving back with you and Jerald's legacy. The Lighthouse Legacy. Thank you, Sandra Tanner! Thank you for your friendship, that I know I am not unique to have, but am made to feel it is. With love and admiration, Jenn Kamp *Don't miss this podcast! On the latest episode of Mormon Book Reviews Nathan Smith returns to kick off a "limited series" of conversations where he discusses books that he thinks will be helpful to those on a quest for knowledge, wisdom, and spirituality. Latter-day Saints believe in becoming “acquainted with all good books” (LDS D&C 90:15) and seeking “out of the best books words of wisdom” (LDS D&C 88:118). In that spirit, Nathan Smith rejoins host Steven Pynakker to share some of the “best books” that have shaped his spirituality and overall worldview. In this conversation, Nathan shares The Wisdom of Insecurity, written by the late Alan Watts, British-American philosopher, former Anglican priest, and popularizer of Eastern wisdom traditions in the West. Though no longer a Latter-day Saint himself, Nathan still strongly believes in seeking wisdom from the best books and wishes to share what he has learned with others. The Wisdom of InsecurityNathan Smith can also be found on Medium, where he has written about the intersections of psychology, philosophy, and religion
