Se dedica a la interpretación en directo de temas musicales y canciones del folklore de los países andinos (Ecuador, Perú, Bolivia, Argentina, Chile, Colombia y Venezuela). Carla Derpic: Es una reconocida intérprete de quena (flauta andina) nacida en la ciudad de Potosí (Bolivia). Su sensibilidad musical la han llevado a ser reconocida como una de las quenistas más importantes dentro y fuera de Bolivia. Cuarteto Karê: Es un grupo vocal nacido en la ciudad de Rosario (Argentina) en el año 2010, dueño de un sonido original que quiere recuperar canciones de todos los géneros, en especial la música Folklórica Argentina y Latinoamericana. O morgado do pazo da Mota fundouno Xoán Otero (1716–1799), que organiza o patrimonio familiar arredor da casa. Este estudo é a referencia académica principal sobre a propiedade. ✔️Séculos XIX–XX: proxección local. A casa mantivo un papel destacado na vida municipal. As fontes locais lembran a Ramón Otero (alcalde da Estrada en varias ocasións) e ao seu fillo Gumersindo Otero (alcalde, deputado provincial e gobernador de Ourense), coa capela familiar na quinta. ✔️Vinculacións e contorna (Otero, Cobián, Luces). A documentación municipal salienta que na zona existiron varias casas señoriais (dos Oteros, Cobián e Luces). In this interview with Roger Horowitz, Ana Maria Otero-Cleves discusses the place of important objects in her book Plebian Consumers, especially textiles, machetes, and patent medicine. Otero-Cleves also elaborates on the crucial importance of Hagley's Lanman and Kemp collection due to its extensive correspondence with Colombian merchants in the late 19th century to obtain supplies for its patent medicines. From the publisher: “Plebeian Consumers is both a global and local study. It tells the story of how peasants, day workers, formerly enslaved people, and small landholders became the largest consumers of foreign commodities in nineteenth-century Colombia, and dynamic participants of an increasingly interconnected world. By studying how plebeian consumers altered global processes from below, Ana María Otero-Cleves challenges ongoing stereotypes about Latin America's peripheral role in the world economy through the nineteenth century, and its undisputed dependency on the Global North. By exploring Colombians' everyday practices of consumption, Otero-Cleves also invites historians to pay close attention to the intimate relationship between the political world and the economic world in nineteenth-century Latin America. She also sheds light on new methodologies and approaches for studying the material world of men and women who left little record of their own experiences.” In support of her work, Otero-Cleves received funding from the Center for the History of Business, Technology, and Society at the Hagley Museum and Library. This week, we're sharing an interview with Ángel, an ICE detainee currently incarcerated in Otero Detention Center in New Mexico. Ángel is a trans-masculine lesbian of Mapuche heritage, whose family moved hir to the US from Chile at the age of 7 and has lived undocumented since, attaining DACA status under Obama. During the 2020 George Floyd Uprising she pled guilty to charges related to arson of police vehicles in Little Rock, serving 15 months before moving to Chicago and where s/he was detained by ICE. Approaching 30 years old, the majority of which has been in the so-called USA, Angel made the hard choice to waive the right to fight deportation and has been in detention centers since on hir way to being sent to Chile to join hir mother and family now living there. For the hour, Ángel speaks about conditions at Prairieland and Otero detention centers, the conditions of hir fellow prisoners, the hurdles they face in access to healthcare, quality food, clean facilities, legal resources, access to communications with their families, ability to communicate needs and demands with staff and guards who only speak English, and other topics.
