Enjoy this week's episode with DJ & Producer MARTIJN TEN VELDEN. Originally from Haarlem in the Netherlands, globetrotting from London to Dubai to Barcelona and now residing for many years on the mystical white Isle of Ibiza, Martijn ten Velden (MTV) has long established himself as a leading DJ/producer on an international level, playing his signature deep and uplifting progressive techno sets all around the world. After taking a sabbatical, to concentrate on family life with the addition of his newborn son, Martijn ten Velden returned to the scene with one of the biggest Summer Anthems in Ibiza. His remix of the classic Defected release "Guitarra G" reached the number one spot in the DMC Buzz Chart, stayed in the Beatport top 100 for over three months and was supported by the likes of Carl Cox, Nick Warren, Luciano, Eelke Kleijn, Darren Emerson, Hot Since 82 and many more.Martijn kept honing down his new production style and was asked by Armin van Buuren to remix a track of his own choice. Continuing the Shanghai Nocturnal sessions with Episode 2. Keeping the Progressive house vibe going but sexier and with a tinge of Nu-Disco club flavour.   Playlist:   2014 Ready for Your Love (Extended Mix). Dasco, Crystal Monee 2015 Sugar (EDXs Ibiza Sunrise Remix). Robin Schulz, Francesco Yates 2015 Big Days (Vocal Mix). Tamtam, Nathan Kay 2015 Guitarra G (Martijn Ten Velden Remix). Banda Sonora             Highlights:   Always liked “Sunlight” melodic line, cheesy it may very be but can’t take away the catchy chorus. Gordon City’s “Ready for Love” is a nu-disco classic. “Revered” not sure I actually like the tune yet let’s see if anyone picks up from where the piano riff is sampled from? But 3 tracks outshine the rest: first “Strike me Down” absolute gem in a progressive soulful crossover, Big Days and Martijn’s recent remix of the House classic Guitarra G… Very nice indeed.   A bientôt   Xtian

Transitions 3.0 (For My Brother without whom none of this would have come about)   When did you last listen to Pink Floyd?... Well here is your chance..   (Denis va directement a 31:45 jusqu'à 59:30 c’est pour toi!)   Continuing my experimental sets with a foray into Progressive House, Progressive Rock and Trance. This is a nocturnal vibe set, therefore grab a book or set yourself some time aside to meditate or ... who knows? prepare yourselves to do the deed... This is a set for the mind and the soul..   One hundred years ago, my big. Big brother forced unto me HIS Long Plays … For those children of the digital age, who do not know what a LP is, well, it was made out of wax, it was circular and it was analog.. It had a beautiful cover, it was tactile and it could not be ripped nor copied.. and as far as my brother was concern his LP's were out of bounds for his little brother.. From the tail end of the Beatles to Pink Floyd, The Who ( their Rock Opera period), Genesis, Emerson Lake & Palmer, King Crimson, Robert Fripp, Procol Harum, Jeff Beck, Traffic, Bowie, Eno, Mike Oldfield, Vangelis, Peter Gabriel, Supertramp, the Cure and up to New Order, my BIG brother made me listen to his records.. I really had no choice .. It was his music or else… What I now fully realize is how much my musical space is partly grounded in his foundations.. And by all means... they weren’t bad ones.. I added Classical and Choir Music and ON MY OWN ;) … discovered Funk and Soul… But my love for Trance, Tech and Progressive House has undoubtedly its roots in my brother’s record collection.. Bless him and this one is for him. In "Transitions 3.0" expect instrumental well built tunes with chords progressions, minor keys, synth pads, guitar solos and tubular bells. Also expect songs with a message, syncopated beats and all throughout pulsating basslines.. Basslines not just here to give the punter a sense of the beat to folllow, but basslines that either support and enhance the tune or bring a whole new melodic dimension. A far from faultless set but I have collected for you some truly epic tunes and hey… when was the last time you listen to Pink Floyd? Playlist: 2012 Make It Happen (Manu Riga Come Back Remix) [Xtian Resist Edit feat Roland Clark]. Chantola 2012 How Never (Original Mix) . David Jach &  Beatamines     2012 Before I Lose Control  (Dub vs. Original Mix).  Betoko    2012 Moonlight (Original Mix) . Magnetix Project feat. N. Dave 2012 Feel The Sun Light (Hermetic Dust Remix). Digital Mess feat.  V. Ray 2012 K9 (Solee Remix). Dave Seaman and Guy Mantzur 2008 Dont Hold Back (Out Of Office Remix). The Potbelleez 2010 Time Wasted (Original Mix) [Xtian Housed & Beatified Edit] . Tengo feat Pink Floyd feat Mr. V  1973 Time (Edited) [Xtian Edit feat. Mr V and Shot Gun]. Pink Floyd 2007 The Ones that Get Away ( Intro Mix) [ Xtian Resist Edit feat. Roland Clark] . Arnej 2012 One Thousand Suns (Disco Citizens Remix). Ferry Corsten and Chicane 2012 Requiem (Original Mix). Solarstone with Clare Stagg   Highlights: easier to say that the weakest song here is the Chicane/Corsten jam.. But could I really not play a new Chicane?  Do not miss!!! "Make it Happen" a techie number with a bassline to die for and very rolling synth pads.  “How Never” ( check out the Zoo Brazil remix on Beatport) anothe techie number with amazing percussions and tight beats all supported by a massive bass and turned etheral by an amazing vocalist whose anme I could not find anywhere.. “Before I Lose Control” from Betoko, HUGE downtempo track yet driving little hell.. Listen to the bass, it is a masterpiece of subtlety, a bass used like a violin to uncover another melodic line... This begs for a more aggresive remix...  "Moonlight" LOVE THIS.. chiil out acoustic guitar, synth, haunting bassline, tight percusions and great progressions.. You will love it.. This would kill if dropped at the right time... If you liked Guitarra G from Banda Sonora, get this track.. I absolutely LOVE the Seaman’s track “K9” with its Tubular bells. Proggresive House at tis very, very best.. And the drop of the bells.. Pure genius! My little Pink Floyd medley is more a trip down memory lane than anything particularly amazing but it just came.. brought by the previous track as a reminder that music did not start with EDM.. and Time Wasted is a very clever modern uptake on the PF classic. I chose to put  “Requiem” as the last track. Indie Rock, Progreesive House who knws? Who cares.. It reminds me of the haunting voice of Dolores Mary Eileen O'Riordan of the Cranberries famous. Truly Amazing and this the standout track of this set with “K9”. "The Ones That Get Away" I used this track previously, classic trance and I needed to put a bit of a kick in the mix after the classic "Time." As the length of the highlight section shows, I had fun with this episode. I truly hope you will enjoy it as much as I do. It is on repeat in my car and I NEVER listen to my sets once published...   Merci Denis..   Xtian   P.S.: as to the Mr V sample at the start of Time.. if anyone think I take myself seriously doing this... they have never met me.. The sample just felt right and yes... I had fun!

Sorry for the delay, I finished up volume 4 and 5 this morning, ran some errands before it started to rain again and the next thing I know we have tornado and flash flood warnings and the power was out when I got back.  Once I got back up, I went and downloaded Windows 7rc which I'll be installing tomorrow morning.  Anywho, I got bogged down trying to decide what kind of protection to use with the new system and realized I hadn't submitted my post yet.  So here it is! Due to the fact that some last minute tunes that I really wanted came through, this mix, which had already been completed, got chopped up to accommodate the newly added songs.  Frankly, it still works quite well, but you'll notice the Beginerz “Reckless Girl” posed some transition issues, so I just did a stop-start to move into Angie Stone.  I don't think anyone will mind, but for some reason, it bugs me when I have to do that.  I guess I'll just have to stop trying to be a perfectionist and just get over it. In the meantime, you have several massive anthems from 2002 included here like the aforementioned “I Wish I Didn't Miss You” by Angie Stone.  OMG!  I absolutely love this song and the Hex Hector production is absolute magic!  The original samples the classic O'Jay's tune “Backstabbers” which Hex managed to work throughout the song while maintaining his big room signature sound.  I tell ya, this song will hold its own on any dancefloor, anywhere in the world to this day.  Another big room stabber which bubbled up from the underground was from Goldtrix featuring Andrea Brown.  “It's Love (Trippin') was a massive #1 crowd pleaser with it's warped synths pulsating throughout the entire mix.  And then, of course, you have Banda Sonora's “Guitarra G” which just received a 2009 update that still can't match the original.  Refreshing in its use of the Spanish guitar built around a solid house groove, this was great for those early evening parties or T-Dance on Sundays.  Other notable tunes were not big Billboard charters, but are significant in that they are memorable and moved the floor as soon as the DJ dropped the needle.  You have several off the beat tracks like X-Press 2 featuring David Byrne in “Lazy” (which received an outstanding 2008 Moto Blanco re-work last year), the Beginerz “Reckless Girl” which is comparable to Layo & Bushwacka's “Love Story” which will be on Friday's edition.  The song that wins the Party Favorz award for being the most fun goes to Tweet's “Oops! (Oh My)” which was a massive R&B and top 40 hit but never charted on the dance charts.  The refrain “Oops, there goes my shirt up over my head (oh my), oops, there goes my skirt droppin' to my feet (oh my)” was a favorite of the boys on the floor and had everyone singing in unison. One other thing or person worth mentioning is Guido Osorio. Guido Osorio was part of the production duo Razor 'n' Guido who had great success on the floors with their own brand of big room house; most notably Kim English's "Unspeakable Joy" in 1999.  Guido struck out on his own and had great success in 2002, with his name on about 1/4 of the club hits reaching the top ten that year.  Expect to see a lot of his mixes spread out in this compilation.  The good news is that Razor (Peter Orenbach) and Guido are back together and well on their way to recapturing the crown as one of the most in-demand production teams around today.  If you haven't heard some of their Britney mixes, hunt them down.  Though unofficial, they're well worth it. That's all I got for you guys today.  Since I'll be installing Windows 7 tomorrow with all of my stuff, I'll post the next installment late in the day tomorrow as well.  Until then...enjoy!
