The 234th Local Selection Mix is soundtracked by Dublin dance music royalty, Charlie. The veteran DJ shifts through his soul-soaked stacks, selecting a mesmerising hour of rare cuts from glittering disco to dusty jazz-touched grooves. A familiar name to many, Charlie has been slinging records since the early 90's. It all started after his first visit to Side's DC in 1990, Charlie knew he wanted to be a DJ and began a lifelong passion for music. It was around this time that Charlie would begin his association with Abbey Discs, the Dublin record hub and Mecca for Irish DJs. Charlie was well-known in the mid to late 1990s for his basement parties at the Ferryman on the quays and whatever other venue he could find. He then went on leave for a few years, returning in 2008 after spending some time with his family. His return to the booth included a support set for the revered Darren Emerson alongside hosting a weekly show with Phever Radio. Following this Charlie would begin to collaborate with friend Pat Hyland to form the Northside Loft Society, which held shows in Tengu. Charlie often performs in Dublin venues such as Hang Dai, Izakaya Basement, Pawnshop, and The Big Romance, to mention a few. Charlie is a proud local DJ who oozes coolness from the moment his fingertips touch the platter of the turntable. Charlie's submission for the Local Selection exemplifies his remarkable talent for delving deep into his huge collection to unearth hidden jewels and timeless classics, resulting in a nostalgic sound that remains as fresh as ever. Charlie's masterful hour sees him draw on various coins of influence, effortlessly blending elements of jazz, funk, soul, and disco, while also pushing the timeless sound of Dublin's hallowed rave era in the 1990's. This is a real DJ at work, take notes. His signature sound has been instrumental in setting the trends within the genre. Take a listen to his latest track “Famous”. “Famous” is out now via North of Neptune records and it's available on all streaming platforms. For the latest on Will's upcoming appearances and projects visit: Instagram.com/willtayloruk; that's Instagram.com/W-I-L-L-T-A-Y-L-O-R-U-K Vinyl's From The Past: 14:22 to 25:06I am going to take a brief break from Vinyl's From The Past. In this limited run series, I will be exploring the pioneers that have shaped and influenced the EDM we have today. In this episode I will be featuring “Underworld”. “Underworld” was formed in 1987 and consisted of Karl Hyde and Rick Smith. As a duo they created synthpop music. However in 1990 the group became a trio and add Darren Emerson. At this point they went from synthpop to progressive house and techno. In 1996 they had their biggest mainstream hit “Born Slippy.Nuxx”, which was on the “Trainspotting” soundtrack. Take a listen here. “Born Slippy.Nuxx” captured the emotional and human element of the characters in “Trainspotting”. The use of vocals in EDM was new at the time because EDM tracks were largely instrumental. In addition, this track was a fusion and trance with its driving, repetitive. synth beats. This fusion blurred the lines with the genres. All of these things combined assisted with the evolution of EDM. That's it for this week's Vinyl's from the past; now let's get back to more music. Paluma: Start – 25:07 and End – 31:53Our next artist, Paluma is a DJ and Producer from Australia that specializes in minimal music and deep house. For more than a decade, Paluma has been entertaining audiences with his live performances in Australia. 2020, marked the beginning of his journey as a producer and saw the release of his debut produced track "Rock The Boat". Paluma is also known for his reworking of popular songs like Fergie's "London Bridge". He is back with his latest rework of Sean Paul's 2000 hit “Temperature”; take a listen to it here.
Darren Emerson is a VR artist who's been working with the medium for years. In 2021, Darren produced 'In Pursuit of Repetitive Beats', an immersive piece exploring Coventry's acid house rave scene of the 1980's. Darren recently joined TSOTA to discuss the piece and virtual reality art in general, with a conversation touching on the state of VR today, the scale of work required to make art with it, and the potential of VR to express things other art forms may not.

Our guest today is Travis Thatcher - here is what he had to say about Dubnobasswithmyheadman by Underworld: "This was the first album of the re-invented form of Underworld with Karl Hyde and Rick Smith, eschewing their prior new wave pop for a more focused electronic sound. Working with a young Darren Emerson (who went on to a huge career as a DJ), dubnobasswithmyheadman established the archetype of Underworld's future releases and received high praise from the music press at the time. I discovered Underworld through the Wax Trax (US) single release of Cowgirl which also appeared on the Hackers movie soundtrack. Thankfully the tune and the record it came from have aged far better than the movie (hack the planet!). As a teen growing up in Eastern PA, I had never heard anything that sounded like them. I was immediately hooked and closely followed their subsequent output. Learning more later about their background in the group Freur and the earlier new wave incarnation of Underworld, their evolution made a lot of sense to me. Dubnobasswithmyheadman was one of the records that Ben and I bonded over when first forming Judi Chicago. Karl Hyde's vocal delivery is a really great example of using voice as an instrument - you can focus on the texture and timbre and get just as much out of it as you can from his words. Mmm Skyscraper is also a big favorite. The stream of consciousness lyric style is something I am always able to get lost in. I also always dug how much guitar was on this record and how the guitar parts are treated and mixed so seamlessly with the electronics."

Hello and welcome to episode 41 of The DJ B-12 Deep Acid House Experience. This show is for October of 2022. We have a very special show for you this month. This show is almost entirely oldskool first generation progressive house, along with trance, breaks, acid and techno all from the early to mid 1990's. I really want to thank everyone for the kind words and incredible feedback on the last show, number 40. It's such a beautiful thing hearing about people loving this music and have such fond memories of hearing this stuff back in the day. It's truly such an honor to play this stuff for you in 2022. For this month's show, I have dug even deeper than last month, and we go in much further. A lot of these tracks came from my personal record collection and a few are pretty rare. This has been one of my most challenging mixes yet to date, as a lot of these older tracks don't stay in time very well, so I put a lot of extra work and effort into this episode to bring you the absolute best show possible. The full Tracklist can be found everywhere, except Soundcloud, they don't provide enough space for these mega tracklists, but you can find it everywhere else such as Simplecast, Apple Podcast, Google Podcast and on my Facebook pages. This mix contains 75 tracks and a runtime of just over 3 hours! I hope you love it! Thank you for your support and listenership! If you enjoy these shows and want me to keep making them, please write a rating and review on my Facebook pages: DJ B-12 Deep Acid House Experience | Facebook and DJ B-12 | FacebookPlease listen, like, share, repost and comment on Soundcloud: Stream DJ B-12 music | Listen to songs, albums, playlists for free on SoundCloudPlease listen & Subscribe on these platforms: iTunes / Apple Podcast: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/dj-b-12-deep-acid-house-experience/id1465508866Google Podcast: https://podcasts.google.com/feed/aHR0cHM6Ly9mZWVkcy5zaW1wbGVjYXN0LmNvbS9hWmxtNV9BaQAudible/Amazon Podcast: https://www.audible.com/pd/DJ-B-12-Deep-Acid-House-Experience-Podcast/B08K569NQ6Simplecast: https://djb12deepacidhouseexperience.simplecast.com/Tunes, remixes and labels: The Spirit , Logic Records, Asli Tanriverdi, Sufi, Dollars 'n Fun, Doi-Oing, Open, Morgan King, Leftfield, OM Records, Dominion, Renaissance Mix, Whoop!, Marine Boy, 108 Grand, Shi-Take, Zoom Records, Quivver, A&M Records, Funkcyde, Dol Enjoy The Vocal, UMM, Jerusalem, King Solomon Dub, Way Out West, Deconstruction, Joi Cardwell, Deep Dish, Eightball Records, Surreal, Fathers of Sound, Whitelake Records, Rockhopper '94, S.C.A.M. Today we premiere a track from Dublin native Air Jackson, as the producer releases his third EP of the summer season, entitled 'XTC / Sunshine' on his label Ten One Records. As a DJ and producer, he knows how to traverse genres, finding exciting, unpredictable links as he goes, which this EP is an example of. From house, to techno to breakbeat into DnB, Air Jackson roams free, but often ties his selections together with an all-important melody. "I'm genre-fluid," he says, "if I like it I'll make it." The emotions Air Jackson's melodies bring, whether hopeful and optimistic or tense and dark, are very much what define his signature sound. After a strong summer of festival performances including Life Festival, Beyond The Pale and the upcoming Electric Picnic, he is set to finish off this sunny season with an inspired EP featuring two uplifting summer hits 'XTC' and 'Sunshine', both of which have been heard far and wide across European dance floors this summer. In a short space of time Air Jackson has achieved a lot. His first release 'Orion' was championed by Pete Tong on his BBC Radio 1 Essential Selection in 2019, and he went on to tour extensively, along with launching his own Ten One Records, a label focused on music rich in melody. Last summer, Air Jackson served up 'Chemistry,' his debut album that showcased the breadth and depth of his sound which received multiple number 1s across many electronic charts. The creativity hasn't stopped as this summer we've seen him release three EPs, one entitled ‘Nebula / Dreams' and ‘Blow Ya Mind / Get Down' and now his latest ‘XTC / Sunshine' EP. These releases have received massive support from some of the biggest electronic artists around the globe including Maceo Plex, Luciano, Nicole Moudaber, John Digweed, Sasha, James Zabiela, Groove Armada, Marco Faraone, Darren Emerson and Glenn Morrison. The future's looking bright as Air Jackson solidifies himself as one of the most hard-working and exciting prospects coming out of Ireland right now. This has led him to accumulate more than 10 years as a DJ.Within a few years of embarking on several of his residencies, he generated a combination of primordial passion for music and deep dedication to lovers of the dance floor. This allowed him to leave his mark as a DJ and share the booth with some renowned artists on the scene such as Mariano Mellino, Antrim, Ezequiel Arias, Fernando Ferreyra, Nacho Varela & Cruz Vittor, Kevin Di Serna, Matias Chilano, Berni Turletti, Analog Jungs, Mike Griego, Lucas Rossi, Dark Soul Project and many more.It is the inspiration coming from some of these names that place him on the path of the sound that characterizes him today. His selection skills led Francisco to be announced in 2021 as runner-up for Mix of The Year by 21C Progressive House (UK) and to have the opportunity to share the stage with artists such as Guy J, Guy Mantzur, Danny Howells, Darren Emerson, and Emi Galvan at the Summer Days festival in Dundee, Scotland.Through his DJ Sets, his own monthly “Perceptions” Radioshow, or his Resident mix at Progressive House UK, he constantly connects a global community of artists and labels to enjoy the best house music. But beyond his achievements and accolades, much deeper motivations move Francisco: as his career grows, so does his desire to give everything back to the scene that supports him along the way. Since 2018 he has been working at Flux, providing an essential platform that allows new stars to shine.@djfranciscoluduena@fluxcommunityFlux Community | 21C Progressive House | Progressive En España | Progressive House UK | Worldwide Progressive House Music | Agency Amplitude

We had the pleasure of interviewing Dot Allison over Zoom video! After the haunting lead single Long Exposure heralded the release of Heart-Shaped Scars - Allison's first album in 12 years and her most personal to date - Dot Allison unveils another new single and lyric video, ‘Can You Hear Nature Sing?', out today on SA Recordings. With Allison's vocals at its most ethereal, the single is tranquil in sound and passionate in spirit. ‘Can You Hear Nature Sing?' originated from a poem written by Dot after her friend and poet Stuart McKenzie recommended some of his favourite poets. “On reading some of the work I wanted to use my immediate natural environment to write a poem” Dot explains. The result was ‘Emblems' set in an autumn landscape. Later, when Dot and Zoë Bestel decided to write a duet for the new album Dot suggested ‘Emblems' as “a starting point for the lyrics” As it transpired it proved fundamental in shaping ‘Can You Hear Nature Sing?', providing much of the lyrical content. Dot's interests in music, literature, science and nature are integral to Heart-Shaped Scars overall aesthetic. It's backdrop of exquisitely sparse and intoxicating dream-folk evokes Dot's vision for “a pure kind of album that musically imbues a return to nature. I wanted it to be comforting like a familiar in-utero heartbeat.” The album is produced by Allison alongside Fiona Cruickshank, with Hannah Peel adding string arrangements to four songs, courtesy of a quintet of Scottish folk musicians. Recorded at Castlesound Studios in Edinburgh - Dot's home town - the sessions include new collaborations with singer songwriters Amy Bowman “The Haunted” and Zoë Bestel on new single “Can You Hear Nature Sing?”. Since 1999's Afterglow, Allison has striven to “keep the listener on a journey – and myself too.” That journey has taken her from Afterglow's broad church (trip-hop, Tim Buckley-esque ballads, chilled psychedelia) to the sultry synth-pop of We Are Science (2002), the baroque Exaltation of Larks (2007) and the roots drama of Room 7½ (2009). She's worked with an extraordinary roll call of talent - Kein Shields, Hal David, Paul Weller, Pete Doherty and Darren Emerson, Massive Attack Scott Walker, Slam, Philip Shepard, The Babyshambles & Pete Doherty, underlining the huge respect her peers hold her in. On Heart-Shaped Scars Allison mines a deeply emotive seam. “Love, loss and a universal longing for union that seems to go with the human condition. To me, music is a sort of tonic or an antidote to a kind of longing, for a while at least.” We want to hear from you!
