Jacqueline S came in through a different recovery program (Al-Anon), couldn't leave because she felt compelled to return day after day, and slowly her life has been transformed one day at a time. Her 1st exposure to a 12 step program was on Saturday, May 18th. It was different but Jacqueline was hooked, hooked on what she didn't know at the time, but hooked none the less. Jacqueline knew she wanted more of 'IT'... She has now attended more than 1000 meetings since that day, and has finally stopped counting. Come and join as Jacqueline shares her experience, strength, and hope about the phrase, "Cunning, Baffling, and Powerful".  Reco12 is an open-to-all addictions and afflictions organization, dedicated to exploring the common threads of the differing manifestations of alcoholism; sharing tools, and offering hope from those walking a similar path. Here is a bit about Dan B in his own words:  I grew up in a nuclear family filled with addicts and alcoholics.  In 1995, I began a long term relationship with an alcoholic and sex addict.  That relationship and eventual marriage led me on a journey with stops in many forms of institutions and hospitals.  By the grace of God, I attended my first Al Anon meeting on July 19, 2004 and my first S-Anon meeting on January 13, 2010.  In 2023,  for a reason I don't yet see, my S-Anon friends named me Yodanon.  I am proud of being named after the wisest (non conference approved) Jedi knight.  Finding my voice through public speaking and serving others helps me earn my emotional sobriety, one day at a time.  In this Reco12 Speaker Meeting, Dan speaks with us about making 9th step amends with himself and with his Higher Power.  Reco12 is all about exploring the common threads of addiction and sharing tools and hope from those on a similar path. We gather from diverse backgrounds, faiths, and places to learn and support one another. Our speakers are members of various fellowships, addictions, and afflictions, thus showing the common threads of recovery, no matter our addiction or affliction.   As this is the final Reco12 Speaker meeting of the year 2024, I just want to thank you all for another wonderful year, and wish you all a very happy holidays and a happy new year.  Reco12 values your support in carrying out our 12th Step mission, providing essential resources for addicts and their loved ones. Only by the grace of God, Krissy F is still alive. She has been sober since December 6, 2006, but stayed sick sober for a long time, suffering from untreated alcoholism without realizing it. Krissy did the program 'her way,' avoiding certain steps and excluding God. For 14.5 years, she hung on by 'not drinking and going to meetings.' When she finally hit rock bottom emotionally, mentally, and spiritually, she surrendered to the 12 Step Program and embraced her need for God. This surrender allowed her to live with power, love, and a transformative way of life, enabling Krissy to be happy, joyous, and free.  Today she speaks powerfully on how her painful past is the key to helping others.Reco12 is all about exploring the common threads of addiction and sharing tools and hope from those on a similar path. Mike L is a sober coach with 36 years of sober and clean lived experience and he has come to believe that he is a spiritual being having a human experience. Mike uses the 3 Legacy model of Unity (Meetings), Service (Helping Others) and Recovery (Practicing Spiritual Principles) to hold off the full-blown return of Stinking Thinking, which in his experience, leads to suffering and Drunk Drinking. While Mike used to believe that he had a drink or drug of choice, the truth is that he never had a choice, he just had to have it, whatever it was, and most days in recovery Mike is happy, joyous and free, as long as he remembers the 12 steps are not an event; they are like breathing for his soul/spirit.Reco12 is all about exploring the common threads of addiction and sharing tools and hope from those on a similar path. After HP returned him to the Program in 2018, he thought he could skip right over Steps 2 and 3 because his faith practice had already been a central focus for him since early childhood. Barry, Abigail, and surprise special guest Becky Rickey discuss On My Own Two Feet by Granian and sample The One They Call Zoe and A Pale Mosaic from Hops & Grain Brewing (brewed by Austin Beerworks) in Austin, Texas. Hops & Grain no longer has a taproom in Austin, but the two beers we sampled continue to be brewed by Austin Beerworks and are available at certain venues around Austin! Garen Gueyikian (the songwriter, lyricist, vocalist, and primarily instrumentalist behind Granian) co-wrote BOOM BOOM with Teddi Gold, which has been used in multiple commercials, including in an Old Navy commercial from spring 2021. Garen later formed Kill the Alarm. We played Kill the Alarm's versions of Uncovered and Collide (compare to Granian's versions of Uncovered and Collide). Abigail entered On My Own into the Abigail Hummel School of Speaking Smartly About Music with a comparison to Survivor by Destiny's Child (secondarily, I Will Survive by Gloria Gaynor). Becky posed the question of our favorite song that employs the radio static effect. Barry entered Honey Pie by The Beatles (we have officially gone zero episodes without mentioning the White Album!). Becky compared her love of Uncovered to her love of On the Way Down by Ryan Cabrera. Becky shared this video of Garen performing My Voice and breaking his guitar. Up next… Twilight Time by Bennie Wallace Jingles are by our friend Pete Coe. Visit Anosmia Awareness for more information on Barry's condition. Ashley S from North Carolina is grateful to be a recovered sex addict and codependent. She has a deep love for the Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous as it is the primary text that enabled her to enter upon a new relationship with her Creator and have a profound spiritual awakening to overcome her sex addiction back in 2021.  However, Ashley found herself hopeless once more as she was stuck in a toxic relationship in sobriety. By the grace of the God, she entered into the rooms of Al-Anon back in March 2023 and found a sponsor to take her back through the Big Book to heal from her codependency. Ashley's talk today is based on Steps 6 & 7 and another spiritual text which had a profound impact on her recovery journey – Drop the Rock. Today, she is passionate about carrying the message to the addict who still suffers as she found it was the solution to help her “drop her rocks.” Ashley is grateful to be back on Reco12 one year later after reworking the 12 steps to share her new story!Reco12 is all about exploring the common threads of addiction and sharing tools and hope from those on a similar path. “I should, they should, the world should”! is how Beth started her email to me.  She says she can live life ‘should-ing' all over the place where she starts objecting to reality  - and reality only wins 100% of the time. Blaming others for the way she feels, playing the victim, complaining, diving into self-pity or using anger to manipulate people to act right can easily be her emotional (im)maturity level. Attending AA, having a sponsor, taking the 12 Steps and continuing to seek and improve conscious contact with God helps her grow up & stay out of selfishness, by taking responsibility for herself with God's help.Reco12 is all about exploring the common threads of addiction and sharing tools and hope from those on a similar path.
