Mr. Crutcher Graduated from the University of Washington in Physical Anthropology with Minors in Chemistry, Physics, and Mathematics. He also went to graduate school in Civil Engineering. He taught the Optical Properties of Materials for the Engineering College of the University of Washington for 8 years and has taught classes in environmental microscopy since 1976. In addition to his lab experience Russ was a Visiting Scholar to Imperial College in London, 1985 and 1987, a crime scene investigator for 3 years, a NASA Principal Investigator for 3 years identifying contaminants and their sources on the surfaces of satellites returned from orbit and Lead Engineer for Boeing's Analytical Engineering Group for 29 years. He also teaches a class on Identification of Combustion Particles for McCrone Research Institute and has published over 100 papers on the Analysis of Environmental Particles using light microscopy.

Short Answer: When I had a serious case of indoor mold-induced illness, I tested my urine and my apartment dust for mycotoxins. Both were high, but the classes of toxins were totally different between the two, making me think the mycotoxins in my urine came from food rather than my apartment. Symptoms going away when outside of the apartment was a far more useful clue, so I think you should consider the cost of a vacation, the cost of mycotoxins, and assume you get more information out of taking the vacation, and then decide which to do. He has provided HVAC design and commissioning services for healthcare, educational, and commercial facilities. He has conducted indoor air quality evaluations for both new construction and existing buildings. Steve was one of the editors of the newly revised Recognition, Evaluation and Control of Indoor Mold aka the “Green Book”. David Miller, PhD. back to IAQ Radio+ for a discussion on the newly revised AIHA Green Book "Recognition, Evaluation and Control of Indoor Mold" and an in depth discussion of mycotoxins. Dr. Miller received his secondary education at the University of New Brunswick, before studying at the University of Portsmouth in England, where he was also a NATO Science Postdoctoral Fellow. He began his post-university career at Agriculture Canada in 1982, and became head of the Fusarium mycotoxin program in 1988. He became a Professor & NSERC Research Chair at Carleton University in 2000. From 1999-2008, he was a visiting scientist and science advisor in the air health effects section of Health Canada. His work involves the development of methods to assess exposure to determinants of respiratory health in indoor environments and on fungal toxins in food and feed. Dr. Miller has published >350 papers on fungi and fungal toxins and has co-written 10 books on the public health aspects of exposures to fungi, and has several patents. He has served on many national and international committees on mold and dampness in the built environment. He is a fellow of the American Industrial Hygiene Association.
