Late Comeback Not Enough For Wests Tigers in Townsville

Things were looking pretty bleak for Wests Tigers fans after about an hour in Townsville. However, trailing by a significant margin, the boys managed to regain some respectability with a late surge that fell just four points short. On this edition of the Wests Tigers Podcast, Joel Helmes, Garry Watson, Steve Stretton, and Nick Hayes try to make sense of the 32-28 loss. There were some worrying signs, there were some classic Wests Tigers-only moments, and then some real flair and potency in attack. So, where exactly are we as a football team? There's also a look at some of the promising performances from individual members of the team, including Starford To'a, Tony Sukkar, and Charlie Staines. But what about the new five-eight?! Heath Mason grabbed that number 6 jersey and did a lot right, both with the ball and in defence. So, what do with do with Latu Fainu this week? The boys try and answer that question on this edition of the pod. There are, of course, lots of 'One Word' submissions from members of the Wests Tigers Podcast Forum, including one that brings up a left-field coaching suggestion. 'Peter A' from the forum reckons we should make a coaching change and bring in the former Eels coach, Brad Arthur. Another discussion on the podcast circles the refereeing, and we ask the question - does Benji need to burn $10,000 to get some respect from the officials? Or, as some members of the pod believe, are we ultimately responsible for the way we get treated by the referee? There's also some good news from the lower grades with wins recorded over the weekend. The question is, is there anyone we can call on to replace the HIA-affected Alex Twal? Yes, it's another post-loss edition of the Wests Tigers Podcast, but we hope you enjoy our take on things, and don't forget you can join the conversation now on the forum.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

The Wests Tigers didn't get flogged, but it was still a disappointing night for fans on Sunday. Taking on injury-hit South Sydney, there was hope our boys could keep that important 50% win record alive heading into the bye. It wasn't to be, though, with Souths getting home 22-12. On this edition of the Wests Tigers Podcast, Joel Helmes is joined by Steve Stretton and Eddie Otto to pull apart the most recent Wests Tigers Performance. Some of the key issues up for discussion include: Our lack of direction Our lack of impact Our poor execution Our lack of variation in most of our plays There's also the topic discussed that seems to be on most Wests Tigers fans' minds, and that is recruitment. Why are we watching a promising season slip away without strengthening some of the obvious weaknesses in the squad? There are a couple of positives on the agenda, though. It can be hard to find too many things to get excited about as a follower of the club right now, but we found a couple. These are, namely, the ongoing contributions being made by Sione Fainu and the impressive work of Tony Sukkar on Sunday evening. There's also a pat on the back for Charlie Staines and Sunia Turuva, too. We run through the many 'One Word' contributions from members of the Wests Tigers Podcast Forum, and Steve tells us about the Ambush event held before the match. That event was a little different, it included members of the rival Souths group, The Burrow. Did everyone get along? Steve has the details. Oh, and Eddie and Steve also fire their shots in a new round of calling out some rugby league columnists over their ongoing questionable behaviours. We didn't get the win, but we hope you enjoy this latest edition of the pod. Thanks for listening.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Could this be the first time the Wests Tigers score three straight wins this decade? After beating the Sharks and Dragons, Wests Tigers have the opportunity to make it three wins in a row this weekend. The club hasn't managed to get a win in three consecutive rounds since 2018. But, it's going to be a tough monkey to get off our backs; the consistently successful Melbourne Storm stands in our way. Oh, and the game is down in the southern capital as well! What else is on this podcast? On this edition of the Wests Tigers Podcast, we preview the big clash with the Storm, with opinions divided on our chances. Joel Helmes, Steve Stretton, and Declan McCutcheon also wrap up last weekend's win over St.George-Illawarra with all agreement that our boys have shown some impressive patches of play. There's a round of Buy, Sell or Hold on this mid-week pod with topics ranging from culture to depth, and Adam Doueihi. Talking about Doueihi also opens up discussion about the futures of Brent Naden and Starford To'a at the Wests Tigers. And, who wants David Fifita at our club? The giant edge second-rower looks set to leave the Gold Coast Titans imminently. Should the Wests Tigers be in the market for the big man? What might entice him to come to the Tigers? And what would he be like playing alongside Jerome Luai on our left edge? We try to answer all those questions. Speaking of questions, we also have Yioti's Quiz, and this week's quiz has us looking to answer some questions himself! Including, did you forget Shawn Blore and David Nofoaluma? Let's keep fingers and toes crossed for a win over the Storm this weekend so that not only can our beloved team cement itself in the eight, but that our big 400th episode is a post-victory edition!See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

The Wests Tigers have scored a memorable win over the Sharks in Round 8 of the 2025 NRL season. Coming into the game as outsiders, the Wests Tigers managed to hold the Sharks to 18-all at the end of regular time. But in Golden Point, the boys found a way to win it, with Adam Doueihi kicking a penalty goal for the points! After eight rounds, the Wests Tigers have eight points, a 50% win ratio, and are just outside the top eight. On this edition of the Wests Tigers Podcast, Joel Helmes is joined by Nick Hayes and Garry Watson to look at the remarkable events that unfolded at Leichhardt. Some big issues to discuss. The two-point win raises questions around the rest of the season for the Tigers. For example, are there still more improvements to come? What could be tweaked to make us an even more potent football side, not just this year but into next season too? The individual performances on the day from guys like Sunia Turuva, Adam Doueihi, Starford To'a, Jarome Luai, Sione Fainu, Sam Fainu, and Terrell May. While 150-game warrior, Alex Twal, also gets a special mention, not just for his efforts yesterday, but for what he's brought to the Wests Tigers during his career. Naturally, the boys give their one-word submissions from the roller-coaster experience that was Tigers V Sharks, and there are plenty of submissions from members of the Wests Tigers Podcast Forum too. And we give our take on 'Richo's Meter" too, determining just where the Tigers are currently sitting on that Poor to Great scale. While there's also a little bit of player transfer news around that comes up for discussion, including the departure of Tim Johanssen from the club. But really, it's all about a dogged and determined Wests Tigers team that did us all proud at Leichhardt Oval yesterday.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

The name of this Wests Tigers Podcast edition is simply two questions, and we have plenty more! Joel Helmes, Eddie Otto, Steve Stretton, and Garry Watson are on deck for this later-than-usual post-game edition of the pod. As we know, Wests Tigers succumbed to the Eels on Monday afternoon. That result leads us to some big questions that we try to answer, including: When it comes to big events like this, why don't we often turn up as a team? Should we play home games against the Eels at CommBank Stadium? Did the club make some mistakes last week in regards to Lachlan Galvin? There are plenty of other things that get discussed as well, including the lies and manipulation in the rugby league media. What is stopping Jarome Luai from being more dominant in attack with the Wests Tigers? And we run through all the 'One Word' submissions from our valued Wests Tigers Podcast Forum members. Steve and Garry also let us know how the big Ambush event at Commbank stadium went, including info that came from guests Latu Fainu and Jeral Skelton. The Wests Tigers are sitting pretty in the NRL Top Eight after a second straight victory. Traveling north to Redcliffe, the Wests Tigers proved too strong for the home team, coming away with two vital points in a 30-18 victory. In this edition of the Wests Tigers Podcast, Joel Helmes is joined by Garry Watson and Steve Stretton, and the encouraging signs from the game are covered. Aspects of the Tigers' play that made us happy include the multiple points of attack and the increasing synchronicity of the team. Sure, there were a few things still to work on, we also talked about that as well. We also run through a terrific list of 'One Word' submissions from our valued members of the Wests Tigers Podcast Forum (we'd love you to add to that list each game too!) Great display of teamwork. While the boys played as a unit, the individual performances of a few players are also discussed, including Jahream Bula, Fonua Pole, Terrell May, Alex Twal, Api Koroisau, and Tallyn Da Silva. We asked the question - is Sunia Turuva the best finisher we've had in a decade? And we played a new game - Was Garry Wrong? The topics in question include Garry's call on the abilities of Adam Doueihi and Alex Seyfarth! (Perhaps a version of this could be used re Eddie Otto and Bula??) Also up for discussion was the possible replacement for Jeral Skelton if he is unable to take on the Warriors next Sunday evening at Campbelltown. Speaking of Campbelltown, Steve has details of the pre-game Ambush event being held at The Beer Shed in Leumeah on Sunday afternoon (to which you are invited). And congratulations to the Wests Tigers on passing another big milestone - 9,000 people have now got Wests Tigers memberships and we think that's a great achievement, but still well short of where we should be. The mid-week edition of the Wests Tigers Podcast is coming off the back fence like Royce Hunt! And speaking of Royce Hunt, the big boy from the Sharks has been joined at the Wests Tigers by four other genuine first-grade players. It's no surprise then that these five players are dominating our Geoff Chisholm Player of the Year Award voting on the Podcast Forum. It's also no surprise that these new players have managed to take Wests Tigers up a cog or two, and that's something we discuss on this edition of the pod. Joel Helmes is joined by Nick Hayes and Garry Watson on this edition, and asks - are the Wests Tigers no longer a terrible footy team? It doesn't sound too positive, but poor old Wests Tigers fans would probably be ok with being just plain ordinary for a bit! How to beat the Dolphins? We then shift our focus to this Saturday's big clash with the Redcliffe Dolphins on their home turf. What can we take away from both team's round two performances? Where do the Dolphins prove a threat? And where do Wests Tigers need to be better to win this one? And, of course, we look at the possible exclusion of Jahream Bula with an ankle injury, looking at how we might be able to cover that loss with Heath Mason. Yioti has chimed in with a really good version of his quiz where ex-Tigers including Shane Elford, Matt Utai, Matt Eisenhuth, and Elijah Taylor get a mention. And see how you go with a 'Who Am I?' that will bring back memories of a fan favourite from last decade. Don't forget those 'One Word' contributions too, we appreciate getting your responses and you entering the chat on the Wests Tigers Podcast Forum! The Wests Tigers proved too strong for Parramatta on Friday night at Leichhardt Oval. On this edition of the Wests Tigers Podcast, Joel Helmes is joined by Steve Stretton and Nick Hayes to break down the trial win over the Eels. The boys look at some of the main talking points out of the game, including the form and contribution of recruits Terrell May, Jack Bird, Jeral Skelton, and Royce Hunt. There's discussion around the possible backline for round one, including whether Adam Doueihi will take one of the centre spots, and Heath Mason's prospects at fullback (if chosen). And, naturally, there's a discussion around the Wests Tigers halves with one Wests Tigers Podcast Forum member calling for a radical rethink before the season starts. Wests Tigers forwards impressed The Wests Tigers made more metres than the Eels, more post-contact metres, and made more tackle breaks, but despite this, there were a couple of forwards that had relatively quiet games on Friday. Joel, Steve and Nick take a look at the forward stocks and discuss what might be the best combo for the game against the Knights next weekend. Hooker discussion also comes up with Tristan Hope impressing in his time on the field, but has he done enough to take the nine jersey from Tallyn Da Silva for that game? Do we stick with Alex Twal at lock? And, is it just us, or have this Tiger's team bonded better over the off-season than going into previous seasons? Referee Ashley Klein also gets a mention, though not in a particularly positive manner! Lots of listener contributions Thank you to all the members of the Wests Tigers Podcast Forum who contributed their 'One Word' responses, naturally, we will stick with this tradition through the season. Check out some further tweaks made on the forum, including changes to advertising settings which should make for a better user experience through season 2025. It was great to see the Wests Tigers in action on Sunday, though most of our star players were absent. This edition of the Wests Tigers Podcast is a look back at the 20-14 (four tries to three) loss to the Bulldogs at Kogarah. As per tradition, we start with a healthy list of 'One Word' submissions about the trial from members of the Wests Tigers Podcast Forum. Then we look at some of the positives to come out of the game, including the impressive performances of guys such as Kit Laulilii, Solomon Saukuru, and new buy, Jeral Skelton. These good showings might make for some rethinking of the round one Wests Tigers team, along with this Friday night's trial against the Eels at Leichhardt Oval. Other positives? It is fair to say that the Wests Tigers look fitter than last year, while there seems to be some real class coming through in the next generation of playmakers. While the strong performances from Royce Hunt and Brent Naden in the Indigenous All-Stars game also give us reason to be optimistic. More questions than answers Joel Helmes, Garry Watson, and Nick Hayes, also look at some of the head scratches that still exist, including: Sione Fainu, is he a chance of playing on an edge in the NRL? What will Tim Johannssen's future bring? Who will play fullback in Round One if Bula isn't available? What is going on with Justin Olam and his knees? If he is out, who will play centre for Round One? Is Luke Laulilii out for an extended period? Some things to be concerned about too. On the other side of the coin, the boys raise some concerns out of the trial match, including the performance of a couple of guys who we thought might be genuine NRL prospects this year. We hope you enjoy this first post-match edition of the Wests Tigers Podcast for 2025 and don't forget to join the conversation right now at the Wests Tigers Podcast Forum! After a long off-season Wests Tigers are back in action in the first trial of the 2025 NRL season. The Wests Tigers will meet the Canterbury Bulldogs at Netstrata Stadium (Kogarah Oval) for the trial match at 5pm this Sunday. Ahead of that match, the Wests Tigers Podcast team take a look at the side selected by Benji Marshall, and what our expectations are of the team. Mix of youth and experience Benji has named familiar faces including Lachlan Galvin and David Klemmer for the match, while new recruit Jeral Skelton will also feature on the wing. On this edition of the pod, Joel Helmes, Nick Hayes and Garry Watson put under the microscope the naming of those three likely first round NRL players. Is there anything more to read into their selections? While a whole group of rising stars will also represent the Wests Tigers, including Heath Mason, Latu Fainu, and Tallyn Da Silva. All eyes will also be on round one hopefuls, including Tim Johannssen, Tony Sukkar, Sione Fainu, and Justin Matamua. Sione Fainu was named as an edge forward, does that mean he's a chance of grabbing that seemingly vacant second row spot in the NRL team? A few names missing Also up for discussion is the whereabouts of a few guys that we thought might feature in this first trial, including Adam Doueihi, Starford To'a and Charlie Staines. Does their exclusion mean they're being considered for the NRL team? Brent Naden may have also featured in this game, however he, along with Royce Hunt and Reuben Porter, are on 2025 All Stars duties. While this edition of the podcast wraps up with a quick game of Buy, Sell or Hold with some serious questions around fan expectations and recently departed Wests Tigers players, and a not so serious question about a missing podcast host! How good is it!? A post-victory edition of the Wests Tigers Podcast! The Wests Tigers registered their fifth win of the 2024 season on Saturday night at Campbelltown with a two-point triumph over the Rabbitohs. Aside from beating Souths, a great thing at any time, the win lifts the team one win ahead of the totals recorded in the 2022 and 2023 seasons. It also keeps some hope alive that we might be able to hand that dreaded Wooden Spoon to another arch-rival, Parramatta. In this edition of the Wests Tigers Podcast, Joel Helmes is joined by Nick Hayes and Garry Watson to review the game, particularly the performances of some of the individual Wests Tigers players. This includes a look at the quite raw, but still quite promising fullback, Heath Mason. A stack of one-word submissions from the Wests Tigers Podcast Forum also features, and these range from 'Confused' to 'Relief' and everything in between! We take a look at two things that might affect the 2025 Wests Tigers team, firstly, the importance of beating Souths and thus ending a losing streak that we didn't want to take into the new season. Secondly, our new recruit Jerome Luai has a big challenge ahead at Penrith over the next six weeks, how will what happens to the Panthers in the finals affect our side when he lands at Concord in November? Another very disappointing weekend for the Wests Tigers with the side falling well short against the Dragons. That's despite a quite promising start to the game by our guys. But what's come following that Friday night game has been an even more difficult pill to swallow - the reports that two of our best young players want out of the club. On this edition of the Wests Tigers Podcast, Joel Helmes, Eddie Otto, and Garry Watson discuss the situation around the future of Lachlan Galvin. Should we be concerned? Is this a Tedesco and Moses situation all over again? Or will Shane Richardson be able to manage the situation? There's also a look at the coach. We hate to see it, but Benji Marshall is increasingly falling under the spotlight as the team records loss after loss. But is Benji actually doing enough work? And what does it look like if we put more support around him? And we bring also you all the one-word responses to Friday night's game against the Dragons from members of the Wests Tigers Podcast Forum.  See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

The Wests Tigers have gone down to the Cowboys in Townsville to mark the side's eighth consecutive loss. But despite the 42-28 loss, are there some real signs of life starting to emerge in this team? Joel Helmes is joined by Eddie Otto, Garry Watson, and Steve Stretton to look at the green shoots that might be starting to show. But it isn't all sunshine and rainbows (as you might expect after eight losses!), there's also a look at the not-so-good aspects of Friday night's performance. There's a whole stack of one-word submissions from the members of the Wests Tigers Podcast Forum too.  The boys take a look at the omission of Api Korisau and Stefano Utoikamanu from the first NSW State of Origin side. Ask the question, should the Wests Tigers look at appointing an experienced coach to assist Benji Marshall in 2025 and beyond? Try to work out the real target for CEO Shane Richardson's trip to the UK.  And there's discussion around the potential call-up of young Tiger's prop, Jordan Miller.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

We can thank the 19th Century French writer Jean-Baptiste Alphonse Karr for the famous saying; “plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose”. Translation; the more things change, the more they stay the same. And that is the perfect summation for our Wests Tigers at the moment - the effort is still there, but the poor discipline and the lousy execution are too. On this edition of the Wests Tigers Podcast, recorded shortly after the Tigers slumped to their 7th straight loss, Joel Helmes is joined by Declan McCutcheon and Garry Watson. The boys look at the Dolphins game, trying to find what worked and lament what didn't. There's also a discussion on where the team is at this point, for example, are we just a terrible team that has no hope, or are there the green shoots there that one of our 'One Word' contributors mentions? Adam Doueihi is in the news, his possible future at the Wests Tigers is put under the microscope. And are the Federal Government about to pump $50 million into "saving" Leichhardt Oval? We talk about what that investment might mean for the Wests Tigers. It's another post-loss edition of the Wests Tigers Podcast, but hey, it must be good because we're getting plenty of practice at those at the moment!See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

The Wests Tigers Podcast is back for another post-game edition, once again we're discussing a defeat. Joel Helmes is joined by Eddie Otto and Garry Watson for a look back at the game against the Newcastle Knight in Tamworth. As usual, there's a heap of One Word descriptions submitted by our fellow fans for that Knights game that we run through, including our own. We're doing pretty well with our defense (with a few exceptions) but attack and point scoring remains the Wests Tigers' Achilles heel in 2024 (again!). We take a look at the Tigers attack on this edition of the pod, including a look at how Isaiah Papalli went in his new position of Lock. There's an analysis of the Jayden Sullivan performance, and naturally Brent Naden gets put under the microscope too. And Joel, Garry and Eddie give their thoughts on the Member's email sent by the CEO of Wests Tigers, Shane Richardson. We're on a six-game losing streak but there's still a bit of room for some fun on this big edition of the Wests Tigers Podcast. Ohh and if you're wondering where Joel went mid-show - we can blame that on an electricity Blackout!See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

A tale of two halves - the Wests Tigers have given up an eight-point lead to lose to the Bulldogs at Accor Stadium. The 22-14 loss marks the club's fifth straight loss and the promising start to the season is starting to look less like it was the turning point we had all hoped for. On this edition of the Wests Tigers Podcast, Joel Helmes is joined by Steve Stretton, Declan McCutcheon, and Eddie Otto to analyze what went wrong. We start with some great one-word submissions from the Wests Tigers Podcast Facebook page, and the Wests Tigers Podcast Forum. Some of the key points point under the microscope by the boys include: Leadership - the performance of our captain, Bateman Improved game (generally) from Bula How we missed Korisau The lack of impact from Twal and Seyfarth And we ask, what's wrong with Isaiah? While there is also a look at the latest, frankly quite sad, comments from the club's former chairman, Lee Hagipantelis. Another big game at Campbelltown Stadium before a packed house, unfortunately the same result. On this edition of the Wests Tigers Podcast we take a good look at Saturday night's game against the Broncos. We finished on the wrong side of the scoreboard, but were there any positives? We also take a look at some of the ongoing issues we seem to have with the Wests Tigers 2024 squad. And there are heaps of one word submissions from members of the Wests Tigers Podcast Forum. Joel Helmes is in the driver's seat for this pod, joined by Garry Watson and Eddie Otto. Speaking of Eddie, standby for a rant on a player that seems to have plateaued in recent times. The boys also talk about the signing of Penrith flyer, Sunia Turuva late last week. What the Fijian winger bring to the team in 2025 and beyond and why we should be excited by his arrival. There's also a look at rumours the Wests Tigers will be audited by the NRL, and what the four year contract for CEO Shane Richardson means for the future of the club. The Wests Tigers were better, but ultimately couldn't quite get the job done against the Panthers on Saturday afternoon. On this edition of the Wests Tigers Podcast things are a little different. Secondly, there's a fantastic segment in the pod where we hear from the good people who joined us for the coach trip to Bathurst. So, there's plenty of one-word submissions to consider, and lots of commentary around what was good, and what was not so good in that performance against Penrith. Some of the key points covered by Joel and Eddie include: The performance of the Wests Tigers wingers The effectiveness of the Wests Tigers' starting backrowers The young Wests Tigers players that look to have big futures We hope you enjoy this post-game edition of the Wests Tigers Podcast, the mid-week pod for this weekend's match against the Broncos will be along soon too.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

A big afternoon at Campbelltown Stadium has ended in disappointment with the Wests Tigers putting in a poor showing against the Dragons. In front of a big home crowd, the Tigers started poorly and struggled to put any real sustained pressure on their joint venture rivals, eventually succumbing 24-12. On this edition of the Wests Tigers Podcast, Joel Helmes, Eddie Otto, Garry Watson, and Declan McCutcheon go back over the game and try to determine where things went wrong. Some of the main points looked at include: The slow start by the Tigers The performance of Jayden Sullivan Is Api Korisau 100% fit? Why did we pick a hooker on the bench (Simpkin) and not use him? How we compare physically to other NRL teams What this result/performance means for the Tiger's season There's also a look at some quite reassuring things said by the man who was at the forefront of the review into the Wests Tigers, Gary Barnier. Gary was a special guest at the Ambush event held before the NRL game yesterday, he gave us all an update on how supportive the Holman Barnes Group is about following through on the review's recommendations. We also take a look at the Campbelltown game day experience and ask why the lines to to get into the ground so long? It's a pity it has to be a post-defeat edition of the Wests Tigers Podcast to start the week, never the less we still hope you enjoy it and feel free to have your say on our opinions on the Wests Tigers Podcast Forum.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

The Wests Tigers' performance against the Dolphins at Suncorp Stadium was the very definition of mixed. A poor start/first half, but then a spirited and much more determined second-half showing leaves us wondering just where this team is at. That's one of the things we try and determine on this edition of the Wests Tigers Podcast.  Joel Helmes, Garry Watson, and Eddie Otto go over the game looking at the things that made us happy and the things (and players) that frustrated us. We look at the impact of missing Lachlan Galvin and the debut of young Latu Fainu. And just how much did the short turnaround affect the performance of the Wests Tigers, especially (seemingly) in that first half. Garry also has some details of a bonus edition of the Wests Tigers Podcast - an interview with the Mayor of the Inner West Council, Darcy Byrne. Garry and Darcy talk Leichhardt Oval and what the future might hold for the famous ground in coming years. There are details of this Sunday's Ambush event at the Beer Shed in Leumeah (we hope to see you there) and a shoutout for anyone still looking to join us on our coach trip to Bathurst the following week. How good was that!? The Wests Tigers scored a memorable win over the Parramatta Eels at CommBank Stadium yesterday afternoon. On this latest post-victory edition of the Wests Tigers Podcast, Joel Helmes is joined by Eddie Otto, Declan McCutcheon, and Garry Watson for a thorough breakdown of the clash with the Eels. Some of the main talking points include: The performance of Lachlan Galvin The Galvin hip-drop tackle Aidan Sezer and the difference he's made to the side The super effort of the Wests Tigers forwards And the big contribution of Justin Olam Despite the victory, the boys also look at some areas that could be improved moving forward, and which players might come under some pressure after a big NSW Cup victory as well yesterday. Wow! What a fantastic performance from the Wests Tigers at Leichhardt Oval on Saturday night! After a mostly disappointing performance to start the season against the Raiders, Wests Tigers found a whole other gear and blew the high-flying Sharks away. We discuss the many strong individual displays in a performance that gives us all some hope that this team is just about to finally turn the corner (or maybe it already has?). What does the win mean for the team line-up moving forward? And what do we make of Benji Marshall's approach to coaching so far? And how do we feel we will go against an impressive Eels side in the big Easter Monday clash this long weekend? There's also coverage of the Shane Richardson interview on the James Graham Podcast, The Bye Round. Our interim CEO has had some interesting things to say in regards to the Wests Tigers home ground strategy and the other important decisions and goals put forward in a new Strategic Plan set to be released this week. Bugger! Wests Tigers reverted to the team that scooped up consecutive wooden spoons in Saturday night's trial against the Dragons. Despite a mostly much more positive showing the week before in New Zealand, Wests Tigers took to the field in Mudgee with a lack of intensity and got shown up by a side many predict to finish low on the ladder this year. On this edition of the Wests Tigers Podcast, Joel Helmes is joined by Steve Stretton and Garry Watson for a look at what went wrong. Thank you to our Wests Tigers Podcast Forum members for their many 'One Word' summations of that performance against St.George-Illawarra. We share those contributions on the pod. There's a discussion around the impressive debut of 18-year-old rookie, Lachlan Galvin, and we ask the question - has he done enough to grab an NRL debut in round two? We take a look at the centre and winger issues that seem to be affecting several aspects of how the side plays. Ask, has Alex Seyfarth beaten out Fonua Pole for the lock position? And who do we need to pick in the back row to get some more thrust? Also under the microscope is the revelation by interim CEO Shane Richardson that the claimed Wests Tigers membership numbers are significantly lower in reality. And Yioti's Quiz is back with some curly questions designed to test Steve and Garry's memory and knowledge of our Wests Tigers! Not a win, unfortunately, and now another break before we are back in action on the field, none the less we thank you for your ongoing support of the Wests Tigers Podcast.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Benji Marshall has kicked off his official coaching career with a win over the Warriors in the Preseason Challenge. On this edition of the Wests Tigers Podcast, Joel Helmes is joined by Garry Watson and Declan McCutcheon to put the 18-16 trial game victory under the microscope. Has the game answered any questions regarding our Round 2 line-up? We take a look at some of the key positions that seemingly are still to be decided, including the halves, bench hooker/utility, back-row/lock, and wingers. Naturally, there's a good look at the performance of two of our new recruits - Jayden Sullivan and Aidan Sezer.   With Sullivan and Sezer mostly doing exactly what was expected of them, where does that leave Latu Fainu and Lachlan Galvin? Other aspects of the trial game that come up for discussion include the performance of some of our still raw, but impressive young players such as Navren Willett and Tony Sukkar. And we take a look at position number 30 in the Wests Tigers 2024 roster, asking the question - what position should we target for further strengthening based on that trial performance? Hooray! The Wests Tigers (and NRL) off-season is officially over and football is about to recommence. On this edition of the Wests Tigers Podcast, Joel Helmes is joined by Declan McCutcheon and Garry Watson to preview the trial match (or pre-season challenge) against the Warriors in New Zealand on Sunday. Wests Tigers coach, Benji Marshall, has named a reasonably strong line-up for the first trial, including starting spots for star players such as Jahream Bula, Api Korisau, and David Klemmer. The Wests Tigers are back in action tonight with a clash against the finals-bound South Sydney. On this edition of the Wests Tigers Podcast, Joel Helmes, Garry Watson, and Declan McCutcheon preview that game. We've done pretty well against the Rabbitohs in recent years, so are we a chance tonight? There's also an update in regard to our petition calling for an external review of the administration and governance of the Wests Tigers, if you haven't yet signed that petition, please do so here. Jayden Sullivan has toured the Wests Tigers Centre of Excellence, we discuss the latest regarding the unwanted Dragon and what he might bring to the Tigers if he comes our way. There are rumours around that suggest Aidan Sezer has already put pen to paper with the Tigers, what will a Sezer - Fainu - Sullivan combo look like for the Wests Tigers in 2024? We play a round of Buy, Sell, or Hold with questions surrounding a number of Wests Tigers issues, in particular relating to the fans and the board. And settle in for another round of Yioti's Quiz.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

The Wests Tigers have all but locked up the dreaded Wooden Spoon for a second straight year with an 18-14 loss to the Dragons. On this edition of the Wests Tigers Podcast, Joel Helmes is joined by Eddie Otto and Declan McCutcheon for a quick look back at the Wollongong clash. Why only a quick look? Well, there weren't very many positives to be highlighted again from our side. In saying that, there are some potential bright spots that are worthy of discussion. Firstly, our very own petition which is calling for an independent review into the administration and governance of the club. Joel gives an update on that. If you haven't already, please sign the petition today. Also, it looks like young Dragons half, Jayden Sullivan might be on his way to Tiger Town. We discuss how he might fit into the 2024 Wests Tigers team along with the Fainu brothers and potentially Aidan Sezer too. There's a look at the confirmation that Daine Laurie is returning to Penrith, and we discuss the Wests Tigers coaching situation, asking the question - is Benji Marshall just better off taking over as Head Coach next year? We hope you enjoy this Friday edition of the Wests Tigers Podcast!See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

The Wests Tigers Podcast is giving you a very rare opportunity - a chance to have your say on the future of the club. This bonus edition of the Wests Tigers Podcast features Joel Helmes and Steve Stretton discussing a new petition we've just launched. The online petition is calling for a thorough, exhaustive review of the Wests Tigers organization by an external consultancy or expert(s). We want the board and senior management to be put under the microscope to see what might be going wrong, and if there are improvements that can be made. Why are we doing this? Well, we, like almost all Wests Tigers fans, have simply had enough.  Year after year we experience a management that chops and changes strategies, and rarely consistently backs even their own decisions.  The management of the Wests Tigers appears to be struggling to properly implement its own strategies when it does create them. And the end result is a football team that consistently struggles, and looks set to struggle again in 2024 (at least). Please, if you feel frustrated at what's going on at the club, take a minute to please sign our petition (and maybe share it on your socials). If/when we get a significant number of signatures we will be taking this directly to Wests Tigers management and asking questions. But, we 100% need your support in this!   You can find the Wests Tigers Review Petition by following this link. Thank you, from Joel, Eddie, Steve, Declan, and Garry (Wests Tigers Podcast). See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

The Wests Tigers organization, especially the administration, is now (again) under the rugby league microscope. But this time it feels different, it feels more like the fans have flat-out had enough.  After another performance that can only be described as appalling, we get to have our say on what the issues are with this club.  And what we have to say might not go down too well in Concord.  Joel Helmes, Garry Watson, Steve Stretton, and Eddie Otto share their thoughts and frustrations with the ongoing dysfunction within Wests Tigers.  We call on Justin Pascoe and Lee Hagipantelis to either quit or be removed from their positions. We want a thorough review of the whole organization to be conducted. And we take a look at other aspects of the club that need serious attention, including whether in fact Wests Ashfield actually cares about the Wests Tigers franchise. There's also opinion from our loyal members of the Wests Tigers Podcast Forum.  And we discuss the latest reports from an unnamed source in the SMH saying Benji Marshall will take over as coach next year - but Tim Sheens will still be called the Head Coach (no, weren't not making this up!).  Join us for an emotional and from-the-heart edition of the Wests Tigers Podcast.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

After a week of reports and rumours, finally we know what is happening with Wests Tigers veteran, Luke Brooks. It was announced yesterday that the long-serving halfback/five-eight was making the shift across the Spit Bridge to Manly. Brooks has signed a four-year deal with the Sea Eagles and is taking Wests Tigers teammate Tommy Talau with him. On this edition of the Wests Tigers Podcast, Joel Helmes, Eddie Otto, Declan McCutcheon, and Garry Watson all get to have their say on the move by Luke Brooks. Is it a good day for the Tigers? Is the chance now to move on with someone new better than sticking with a guy that probably just hasn't consistently met his potential at our club? Is it a good move for the player? And, of course, what does this mean for Wests Tigers halves in 2024 and beyond? We give our one-word assessment of the Luke Brooks decade at the club and invited members of the Wests Tigers Podcast Forum to also contribute to that as well. We also discuss the rumoured signing of a young Manly star in return - Latu Fainu, as well as his brother, backrower Samuela Fainu. There's also a look at whether the Brooks signing might mean Josh Schuster also becomes a free agent, and whether he is someone we should be chasing. And we touch on the rumours that Benji Marshall is unhappy and apparently isn't too keen on taking over as Wests Tigers coach in 2025. Fingers crossed the next edition of the pod actually has some signing news that features a player coming our way, in the meantime, please enjoy this big edition. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Another round of NRL has passed by and again the Wests Tigers are on the wrong side of the win/loss sheet. This time the Tigers ran into a State of Origin-weakened Melbourne team, and despite playing with effort (mostly) the Storm wasn't really ever pushed to the limit by our guys. On this edition of the Wests Tigers Podcast, Joel Helmes and Garry Watson take a look back at the positives and negatives of that game. Some of the key talking points: Our continued inability to score points The Alex Twal try (at last!) The debut of young hooker, Tallyn Da Silva The season-best game from Isaiah Papalli The continued development of Jahream Bula Garry also talks about the Ambush event that was held just before Saturday night's game at Campbelltown Stadium. That event featured a special guest, Wests Tigers Head of Pathways, Matthew Betsey. Stay tuned for the audio recording of Garry's interview with this very important player in the development of our next-generation stars. And Garry also has details on another special edition episode of the podcast that will drop later this week. More heartache, frustration, and just good-old disappointment for Wests Tigers fans, however, we hope this post-match edition of the podcast is enjoyed by you. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
