In the sixth message of our “Jesus the Healer” series, Darrell Johnson takes us to the shores of the Sea of Galilee where the risen Jesus meets Peter, not to condemn him, but to heal him. Preaching from John 21:1-19, Darrell shows us how Jesus comes to heal the whole person: physically, emotionally, relationally, and spiritually. In this tender encounter, Jesus frees Peter from the guilt and shame of his past, giving him a new beginning and a fresh calling. Darrell invites us to reflect on our own places of stuckness, our own charcoal fires, and to hear Jesus' invitation to healing and freedom.Darrell's BooksGive to the Ministry of Darrell Johnson—Subscribe to Darrell's Mailing ListWebsite | darrelljohnson.caYouTube | youtube.com/darrelljohnson
As soon then as they were come to land, they saw a fire of coals there, and fish laid thereon, and bread. Jesus saith unto them, Bring of the fish which ye have now caught.
Thought to share? Send me a text..."Do you love me more than these?" The question hangs in the air between Jesus and Peter, standing by a charcoal fire on the shores of Galilee—the same type of fire where Peter had denied his Lord three times. This isn't a coincidence but a divine appointment for healing and restoration. The final chapter of John serves as a powerful epilogue where loose ends are tied together concluding with Jesus addressing our tendency toward comparison. When Peter asks about John's fate, Jesus redirects: "What is that to you? You follow me!" It's a powerful reminder that we each have our unique journey with Christ. Take time today to ponder: Where might Jesus be asking you to cast your nets differently? How is he inviting you to bring what you have and join his work? Simon Peter saith unto them, I go a fishing. They say unto him, We also go with thee. They went forth, and entered into a ship immediately; and that night they caught nothing.
15 When therefore they had dined, Jesus saith to Simon Peter: Simon son of John, lovest thou me more than these? He saith to him: Yea, Lord, thou knowest that I love thee. He saith to him: Feed my lambs.Cum ergo prandissent, dicit Simoni Petro Jesus : Simon Joannis, diligis me plus his? Dicit ei : Etiam Domine, tu scis quia amo te. Dicit ei : Pasce agnos meos. 16 He saith to him again: Simon, son of John, lovest thou me? He saith to him: Yea, Lord, thou knowest that I love thee. He saith to him: Feed my lambs.Dicit ei iterum : Simon Joannis, diligis me? Ait illi : Etiam Domine, tu scis quia amo te. Dicit ei : Pasce agnos meos. 17 He said to him the third time: Simon, son of John, lovest thou me? Peter was grieved, because he had said to him the third time: Lovest thou me? And he said to him: Lord, thou knowest all things: thou knowest that I love thee. He said to him: Feed my sheep.Dicit ei tertio : Simon Joannis, amas me? Contristatus est Petrus, quia dixit ei tertio : Amas me? et dixit ei : Domine, tu omnia nosti, tu scis quia amo te. Dixit ei : Pasce oves meas. 18 Amen, amen I say to thee, when thou wast younger, thou didst gird thyself, and didst walk where thou wouldst. But when thou shalt be old, thou shalt stretch forth thy hands, and another shall gird thee, and lead thee whither thou wouldst not.Amen, amen dico tibi : cum esses junior, cingebas te, et ambulabas ubi volebas : cum autem senueris, extendes manus tuas, et alius te cinget, et ducet quo tu non vis. 19 And this he said, signifying by what death he should glorify God. And when he had said this, he saith to him: Follow me.Hoc autem dixit significans qua morte clarificaturus esset Deum. Et cum hoc dixisset, dicit ei : Sequere me.The Vigil Mass records the powers given by Jesus Christ to Ss Peter and Paul, the two foundations pillars of the Church.

In John 21 the resurrected Jesus, the King of the universe, the one with all power and authority is sitting on a beach serving breakfast. His presence on that shoreline, his radical love and hospitality, sets the stage for the restoration he brings. It's a story that puts God's character front and center; it confronts our misconceptions and fears and invites us to experience the restorative love of God.

John 21 - Abdel Judeh - Sunday Morning, June 8, 2025 by First Baptist Church of Hammond
Peter turned and saw the disciple following whom Jesus loved, the one who had also reclined upon his chest during the supperand had said, "Master, who is the one who will betray you?"When Peter saw him, he said to Jesus, "Lord, what about him?"Jesus said to him, "What if I want him to remain until I come? What concern is it of yours? You follow me."So the word spread among the brothers that that disciple would not die.But Jesus had not told him that he would not die, just "What if I want him to remain until I come? What concern is it of yours?"It is this disciple who testifies to these thingsand has written them, and we know that his testimony is true. There are also many other things that Jesus did,but if these were to be described individually,I do not think the whole world would contain the booksthat would be written.
I review a sermon on John 21:15-17
After Jesus had revealed himself to his disciples and eaten breakfast with them, he said to Simon Peter,“Simon, son of John, do you love me more than these?”Simon Peter answered him, “Yes, Lord, you know that I love you.”Jesus said to him, “Feed my lambs.”He then said to Simon Peter a second time,“Simon, son of John, do you love me?”Simon Peter answered him, “Yes, Lord, you know that I love you.” He said to him, “Tend my sheep.”He said to him the third time,“Simon, son of John, do you love me?”Peter was distressed that he had said to him a third time,“Do you love me?” and he said to him,“Lord, you know everything; you know that I love you.”Jesus said to him, “Feed my sheep.Amen, amen, I say to you, when you were younger, you used to dress yourself and go where you wanted; but when you grow old, you will stretch out your hands, and someone else will dress youand lead you where you do not want to go.”He said this signifying by what kind of death he would glorify God.And when he had said this, he said to him, “Follow me.”
Did Jesus and Peter use two different words for love in John 21—and does it actually matter? This episode exposes the myth, traces its origins, and shows why the Greek doesn't say what many claim it does.

Parents would surely say they love their children. But does the way they love Jesus affect the way they love their children? And is love a requirement in order for a parent to lead their children? Many folks say they'd be on board with the Bible if only they could uncover some solid proof that the events described really happened. Yet, there are moments when you might realize that no matter how much evidence you present, some people just aren't ready to embrace the gospel with an open heart. Today, Pastor Mark suggests that accepting the gospel calls for a humble heart. God is all set to reveal to you every bit of evidence you need to embrace your faith in Him. But take on the journey by nurturing a heart that receives Him, soaking it all in with an open mind. That's the moment when God can stir your heart with conviction!
Have you ever thought about the countless individuals facing hardship daily due to their faith in Jesus? It makes you wonder, could you find the strength to lay down your life for Him if the moment ever arose? Deep down, you might feel like you're destined to stumble when it comes to serving God. Today, Pastor Mark shares an inspiring message about how God's grace equips you to handle whatever life throws your way. As you journey alongside God in spirit and faith, you'll find your courage blossoming, empowering you to tackle challenges with a heart full of joy, all while feeling His presence right there with you!
When Jesus turned to Peter and asked if he loved Him, Peter seemed a bit unsure, taking his time to respond. God understood Peter's heart and recognized that he wasn't quite in the mindset that Jesus hoped for him to be in. Yet, Jesus entrusted him with the important role of looking after His people. There could be moments when you find yourself in a similar spot, facing the same question from God that Peter once did. So, does that mean He just leaves you hanging? Today, Pastor Mark shares how Jesus aims to fulfill His purpose in your life. He hopes you'll take that leap of faith to get to the place where Jesus envisions you to be!

Peter's dramatic failure and restoration in John 21 shows that everyone, no matter how badly they've fallen, can experience a comeback through Jesus. Staying connected to Christian community and being honest with ourselves and God are the first steps toward restoration. Peter's story reminds us that our failures are not the end, but an invitation from Jesus to follow him into a renewed life of purpose.
