From material to meta... There is a new trend in Web3 trademarks and virtual world branding! This time last year Nike got the ball rolling by filing trademark applications for registration for its name, swoosh logo, and a number of other well-known marks for use in connection with “downloadable virtual goods,” “retail store services featuring virtual goods,” and “entertainment services, namely, providing on-line, non-downloadable virtual footwear, clothing,” So how do you register for a trademark in a virtual world? Where can you check and keep up to date with trademarks? What should you think about when associating intellectual property rights with NFTs? To answer these questions and more our resident Web3 panel is delighted to to joined by our special guest welcome Shana Thomas! Shana is a trademark and copyright attorney who has experience securing protection for emerging brands, advising clients on the launch of product names and slogans, assisting in the management of IP assets, representing applicants in trademark prosecution-related matters, and enforcing intellectual property rights against infringers and counterfeits. We're interacting in new ways. Sometimes it's just with our voice on social audio. Other times it involves audio complimented by our Avatar and digital assets in the Metaverse. In both circumstances, we only have a few seconds or minutes to attract attention and keep the conversation moving forward. Communicate correctly, and the experience for the other person will feel like a fine dining adventure at their favorite restaurant with the meal ending with delicious ice cream, chocolate sauce, and a bright fresh red cherry on top. Go about things the wrong way, and for everyone involved, it'll feel like you just dumped your cheeseburger and fries into your lap while parked outside Mcdonald's in a noisy and dirty parking lot. To help make everyone's communication dining experience one to remember, I'm honored to introduce you to my good friend, Chris Lema. In addition to being a man of many hats– seriously, this man sports more hats in more good ways than anyone I've ever met; he's also a communication expert, Chief Product Officer, product strategist, public speaker, and blogger. About 2018/19 I first started paying a little bit of attention to this thing called the Blockchain. Didn't make a lot of sense to me, but I'm usually keen to understand new technology so I jumped in and tried to make what sense of it I could. I even bought a little bit of bitcoin back when it was around 3-4000. Today, it's over 50K. That was it though, and I didn't really do much more, until mid-last year I first started hearing about this thing called Web3, and non fungible tokens, people like Gary Vee speaking launching NFTs and I realised maybe this is something to pay more attention to. And over the course of this year so far I've begun (only just) to realise the big shift that decentralisation and blockchain technology is going to have on, well, everything. Including video production and marketing, so that's where I want to go with you today. I'm seriously fired up for this conversation you're about the hear. As I think, regardless of how deep you are right now in this space, this conversation is going to open up some new ways of thinking for you and begin to paint a picture of what is about to come. You do not want to skip this episode. In this episode we cover: A short intro to Mitch Jackson and what he does What is Web3.0 How has this shift in technology changed the way he's doing business. What and where is the Metaverse. How he thinks Web3, Blockchain and the metaverse change the way video and content marketing, and operating a creative business is currently thought about. How listeners who are keen to be ahead of the adoption curve should take action today. The effect on traditional advertising. How video producers could get paid.
