Becoming whole again- overcoming adversity and turning pain into power
Beautiful consciousnesses, spring is in the air, finally! I'm back with a new episode; I hope you enjoy it! This podcast episode is about natural fertility, birth control, and hormone balancing methods by learning to "work" with our cycles and tuning into the wisdom of our bodies. It was refreshing to hear this perspective and learn from Lana, as we are not taught about the natural ways to approach these issues we face as women. Lana shares her journey about how her allopathic doctor couldn't help her with polycystic ovary syndrome. When her doctor told her not to worry about her irregular cycle, she took the matter into her own hands, did some research, and found the Justisse method. Through this method, which consists of tracking our cycle, Lana has had positive results in overcoming her condition and conceiving a healthy child. She is now teaching and supporting women doing the same. The Justisse method empowers women to heal themselves by learning how the body operates. There is so much that we can learn by tracking our moon cycle. Please share with anyone interested in holistic reproductive health. For more information, reach out to Lana at lanajoyparra.ca. Books we referred to: ✣ Her blood is gold by Lara Owen. ✣ The red tent by Anita Diamant. ✣ Witches, Midwives, and Nurses: A History of Women Healers by Deirdre English.
Which “brand” of fertility awareness is right for you? You can think of different fertility awareness based methods / natural family planning methods as different brands. All will help you identify your body’s natural signs of fertility and then use those signs to achieve your family planning and/or health goals. It’s just about figuring out what method makes the most sense for you and your situation, and, especially if using for family planning, what instructor you fit best with.Joy Davis is an instructor in the Justisse method of fertility awareness. Unlike other natural family planning methods, the Justisse method is secular and inclusive. Is this the right option for you? Here is some of what you will hear in the interview with Joy:-The Justisse method was born out of a desire for non-religious fertility awareness-It is a secular and inclusive method of body literacy-Justisse is a symptothermal method, using cervical mucus and basal body temperature as fertility signs-Fertility awareness transforms the way you look at your body. Instead of suppressing, you’re embracing your body-Once you understand your cycle and what it means to be in different phases of your cycle, you can incorporate that cyclic natural into your whole life-”I don’t gamble, especially not with my birth control”-Natural family planning and fertility awareness methods are more effective when you work with an instructorTo learn more about Joy or to work with her: https://fullmoonfertility.ca/work-with-me Tag Joy (@fullmoon.fertility) and me (@nfppharmacist) on Instagram and let us know your take-aways!!My next FREE “Know Your Body with Natural Family Planning” workshop is Tues 2/16/21 at 7:30pm central time. There are multiple natural family planning methods that you can choose to you. In this episode, Dr. Emily describes the differences between the methods so you can find one that works best for you.Natural family planning methods promote abstinence rather than barrier or other artificial contraceptive back-up when the couple is desiring to avoid pregnancy. All natural family planning methods are fertility-awareness-based methods. Fertility awareness methods are considered natural family planning if a couple chooses to be abstinent when wanting to avoid pregnancy.Natural family planning method categories:Calendar methods (ex. Standard Days method)Cervical mucus methods (ex. Two Day method, Billings ovulation method, Creighton method)Symptothermal methods (ex. taught by Couples to Couples league or Justisse practitioners)Hormone level monitoring methods / symptohormonal methods (ex. FEMM method, Marquette method)How to choose? What sign is going to work best for you and your lifestyle? What sign are you going to stick with tracking? Symptothermal methods use basal body temperature tracking and symptohormonal methods use hormone level monitoring in addition to cervical mucus monitoring methodsThe Standard Days method differs from other NFP methods in that it gives you a fixed fertile windowChoose a method based on an instructor you feel comfortable working withStill need help deciding?PDF chart comparing NFP methods: www.nfppharmacist.com/resources -> scroll to bottom for “NFP comparison chart”Book a FREE 15-min call with me: www.calendly.com/nfppharmacist/15min www.factsaboutfertility.org Book an individual 60-min NFP education session with me: www.calendly.com/nfppharmacist/nfp I will be hosting a virtual class called “Know Your Body with Natural Family Planning” on Tues 7/21/20 at 7:30pm CST. Megan is FertilityCare Practitioner. FertilityCare Practitioners are fertility awareness educators who are trained in the Creighton model of fertility awareness. In today’s show, Megan and I dive into about NaPro Technology and the role that it can play in restoring fertility. We also talk about the Creighton model of fertility awareness, which is a mucus only method, and we delve into cervical mucus and why mucus is central to this model of fertility awareness charting. Topics discussed in today's episode What is different about the Creighton method of fertility awareness charting? What is NaPro Technology? How do FertilityCare Practitioners and NaPro Doctors work together to interpret a woman's charts and address any cycle irregularities? How is the Creighton model effective, especially considering that it is a mucus-only method of charting? Continuous mucus and limited mucus cycles How does mucus production shift around ovulation? When might observing temperature not actually be helpful? Is all mucus fertile? How do you tell when you are fertile? How do models like Creighton and Justisse classify "sticky" and "tacky" mucus? Why there aren't only 3 kinds of mucus (i.e. sticky, creamy, egg white) What your cervical mucus could be telling you about your cervical health What does a healthy menstrual cycle look like? The process of coming off the pill and charting your cycles Are NaPro Doctors "medical" or are they "holistic"? How is the approach that NaPro Doctors take differently to mainstream physicians? Geraldine is the founder of the Justisse Method - a comprehensive method of fertility awareness cycle charting that she founded in 1987. She is the CEO of Justisse Healthworks for Women, and she is the Academic Dean of the Justisse Training College. She has worked as a fertility awareness educator and a holistic reproductive health practitioner since 1977, and she has been active in the reproductive health freedoms movement since then. If you didn’t get a chance to listen to the episode Geraldine and I recorded last year, you’ll want to go back and listen to episode 56 which I will link to this episode. In our previous episode, Geraldine talked in depth about the history of Fertility Awareness-Based Methods and how Justisse came about. She talked about the important role that she played in bringing this knowledge into the secular realm to allow free access to all women regardless of their marital status or religious affiliations. In today’s show, we delve into the psycho-spiritual aspects of fertility awareness, the different ways that our bodies are commodified and mistreated within the standard medical system, and the implications these issues have for modern day feminists. Topics discussed in today's episode Where does the Fertility Awareness Method fit in with modern day feminism? Why is our fertility treated as a "disease" that needs to be "treated" by modern medicine? Why are women still told that hormonal contraceptives do no harm to our reproductive systems? What is misogyny? And what does it have to do with the way women's bodies are treated in our medical system? The importance of calling it what it is - "birth control" vs. "contraceptive endocrine disruptor" vs. "temporary sterilization" The role of fear in the development of birth control methods The complicated relationship that women have with their bodies and their fertility Unplanned pregnancy, and why hormonal birth control is considered the only 'valid' birth control option The consequences of unplanned pregnancy, and the lack of support for mothers with newborn children The importance of proper attachment between mother and baby within the crucial first 2 years of life The role of breastfeeding in encouraging proper attachment between mother and child Connect with Geraldine You can connect with Geraldine on the Justisse website and on Facebook!
