The first thing many doctors do when a couple is struggling to get pregnant is run some lab work. Dr. Codruta Pandaleche, a restorative reproductive physician previously working with THE leading RRM clinic in the world (NeoFertility in Ireland), shares why AMH is NOT a predictor of fertility. If your doctor is telling you you need to pursue IVF because of low AMH levels, listen to this episode first and share it with your friends! AMH is NOT a predictor of your fertility. NOTE: This episode is appropriate for all audiences. After IVF, the process isn't always over. For some, there is emotional trauma to unpack, physical pain to address, or spiritual questions to answer. For others, they struggle with the real concerns over what to do with remaining frozen embryos or how to tell their children they were conceived with donor egg/sperm. Where can you go when you need faith-informed support and healing? There haven't been many ministries focused on IVF healing until recently, with the creation of Shiloh IVF Ministry. This new ministry is focused on providing education and support for Christian and Catholic women who have been through IVF. Today, we interview one of their founders, Katie McMahon. NOTE: This episode is appropriate for all audiences, but does talk about sensitive topics related to IVF. They currently have 3 living children, as well as 10 others who died in the process of in vitro fertilization. After a deepening of faith and a conversion of thought in regards to IVF, Katie has written a few blog entries for the Catholic infertility ministry, Springs in the Desert. She currently volunteers as a mentor for those carrying the cross of infertility with the Sisters of Hannah mentorship program through The Fruitful Hollow Catholic Infertility Resource. Lindsey and Dan felt sick at how they and their bodies were treated during their struggle with infertility. They felt they were being sold hope that couldn't be promised, by doctors who told them they had no answers. The entire journey didn't sit right with them, so they went looking for other avenues. Along the journey, they discovered an approach to fertility that was natural, cooperative, faithful, and left them feeling peaceful. As Christians, our faith has a heavy influence on all of our important decisions in life: spouse, jobs, finances, moves. But what about our fertility decision? He is married to the love of his life, Jennifer. Together they have five children, Levi, Priscilla, Ruth, Joseph, and Samuel (of blessed memory). Fr. We've all heard things about our fertility that we're shocked to later find out are FALSE! This seems to be especially true when it comes to trying to conceive myths or how to get pregnant myths. But how do we know they're not true? When you hear something over and over again, you tend to believe it... That's why we're doing a Fertility "Myth Buster" episode today to bust some of the most common myths about trying to get pregnant. Enjoy! NOTE: This episode includes terminology like intercourse, sperm, seminal fluid, and related talk and may not be appropriate for all audiences. Clarification: A statistic was given related to couples who successfully conceive using the Creighton System within the first 6 months. This specific statistic is related to those without any fertility or reproductive health issues. The other statistic, related to 80% of couples conceiving within the first year, is related to those with diagnosed fertility issues. Thanks! Ready to learn the Creighton Model System? What if it doesn't work? These are fair and valid questions that every woman/couple should ask as they figure out the best option for them. But the great news is that certain forms of natural birth control, like the Creighton Model System, are incredibly effective -- 99.5% for avoiding pregnancy! -- which is higher than hormonal birth control. Still, it can feel scary to trust anything to plan your family in the timeline you'd like. Today's episode talks about this directly, as Caitlin explores how one couple's experience speaks to the reality many couples face: when it comes to family planning, who/what should we really trust? We'll explore the role our faith plays in these important questions and how to know when you can trust in your family planning. NOTE: This episode is appropriate for all audiences. There are incredible benefits to using fertility awareness based methods (FABM) for reproductive health and family planning, but not all OBGYNs, midwives, or clinicians are on board. Why is this the case? Is there something "iffy" about FABMs? Is natural family planning (NFP) actually just the rhythm method? Yikes! Dr. Marguerite Duane, co-founder and executive director of FACTS about Fertility shares the science behind FABMs, why your physician may not know about them, and practical tips and resources for getting them on board and educated. We need more medical professionals knowledgeable and educated in areas of restorative reproductive healthcare -- not only for our own needs, but for future generations. Join us as we take the first step together! NOTE: This episode is appropriate for all audiences. GUEST BIO: Dr. Duane, a board-certified family physician, is co-founder and Executive Director of FACTS about Fertility, an organization dedicated to educating medical professionals and students about the scientific evidence supporting fertility awareness-based methods (FABMs). Dr. Duane trained as a Creighton, FEMM and NeoFertility Medical consultant, and a TeenSTAR educator. She received her M.D. degree from the State University of New York at Stony Brook and completed her Family Medicine residency at Lancaster General Hospital in Pennsylvania. She received a Bachelor of Science with Honors and a Master of Health Administration degree from Cornell University. In June 2024, a new bill was proposed called the RESTORE Act (or The Reproductive Empowerment and Support through Optimal Restoration Act). Politics aside, what does this bill say and could it be helpful for the real women facing reproductive health challenges in the United States? This episode reviews the goals of the bill and whether or not it could be helpful to women and couples. It wants to redefine the definition of infertility, change education for medical professionals, and study the impact of direct-to-women education. Are these helpful or hurtful? Let's explore together. Here's a link to read the bill for yourself. NOTE: This episode does include terminology like intercourse and may not be appropriate for all audiences. Love the content? In June 2024, the Southern Baptist Convention voted on a resolution to formally condemn the use of IVF based primarily on the destruction of embryos. The SBC is one of the most pro-life denominations who emphasize the sanctity of life, and issues related to embryos are close to them. But what about the women and couples who want to honor the moral/ethical concerns with IVF but are struggling to conceive a pregnancy? There is hope for these couples! Certified FertilityCare Practitioner, Caitlin Estes, breaks down the approach of IVF and contrasts it with other available infertility treatment approaches that have no ethical or moral considerations. We are big fans of NaProTechnology at Woven Well, because this unique approach investigates the root causes of reproductive health concerns like PCOS, PMS, Luteal Phase defect, and endometriosis. For many women, this restorative approach is all they need to finally get some answers and individualized care. But there are some who still have a "missing piece." This was how Dr. Melissa Weidert felt as she served a NaProTechnology OBGYN and surgeon. She loved NaPro, but knew she needed a complementary education to provide to some of her patients who still struggled. Now, she's opened her integrative health clinic and provides holistic reproductive care and fertility treatments to men and women. Utilizing hormonal panels, HTMA, bio resonance testing, mold and parasite investigation, and more, she seeks the root causes of reproductive health concerns and addresses them at their core. She joins us today to talk about this approach and how it serves men and women with reproductive health issues. NOTE: This episode is appropriate for all audiences. GUEST BIO: Dr. Melissa Weidert officially launched her virtual medical practice, Fiat Fertility & Wellness, in the Fall of 2023 after many years in restorative reproductive medicine. She has a strong passion for NaProTECHNOLOGY and trained as a NaPro surgeon. Combining this knowledge with functional medicine and holistic health practices allows her to walk alongside women, men, and couples on their unique health journeys. She lives with her husband and son and is a proud Wisconsinite who enjoys the outdoors, strong coffee, and quality conversations. You can find her soaking in the sun rays, working the soil into a new garden, and taking time to be present with those she loves. If you enjoyed this episode, be sure to give us a 5 star review!
