Cal and Liam return with the beginning of the end of their The Zeta Project coverage with the 5th to last double feature , this week with the episodes "Ro's Gift," which sees the return of a group of villains that debuted in Batman Beyond and "Lost and Found" which features the previously unseen origin stories of our lead protagonists. The hosts discuss a disappointing return of villains, how the episode was originally a Batman Beyond crossover and how the series continued to be hamstrung by a lack of action. With the second episode they discuss a surprisingly fun and well-written episode by a DCAU writing veteran, some fun visual easter eggs and some unique music and recognizable voice actors from the DCAU all combining to result in one of the highest-rated Zeta episodes to date. When you've reached the end, you can't help but want to look back and that's just what Liam & Cal do this week as they take a second gander on the pod at the Batman Beyond season one episode "Golem." The hosts look back at their original scores and decide with the benefit of hindsight and nearly 8 years of reviews if they were too harsh or too lenient on the episode featuring the alliterative Willie Watt and his giant robot friend. The hosts discuss the dynamics lifted from classic 80s teen classics and horror films, the unique musical pieces from Shirley Walker, why this episode changed the direction for the Beyond writers going forward and a little sneaky easter egg that may just explain the Golem's design. The Good Brothers make their long-awaited/long-dreaded return to reviewing The Zeta Project with a double feature of season two episodes "Resume Mission" and "Hunt in the Hub." Without a future Dark Knight to pique interest, the hosts are forced to try and find things to appreciate from the skeletal foundation of decent revenge story from Zeta's evil synthoid counterpart and a second episode that feels more like a cheap Adobe Flash quest game come to animation. The hosts manage to talk all the normal topics plus the Chicken Run Playstation game, the improbability of a future where billionaires monopolize privatized access to space travel, Homestar Runner and other early 2000s internet legends and muich more. It's back to the future for the next several weeks as the Good brothers make their return to the DCAU with the penultimate episode of Batman Beyond which features a crossover from The Zeta Project in the episode "Countdown." When Zeta shows up to Gotham, hijinks ensue as the Mad Stan straps a bomb to an oblivious Zeta. The hosts discuss how this plot mirrors an earlier episode of Batman Beyond, expectations for the episode being set higher due to those given the writing credit and it being the original intended series finale and just what tone this episode could have taken to be a more enjoyable episode. The hosts also discuss animation that while fine suffers from a lack of action, music by the late, great Shirley Walker and a voice cast of both series' regulars. Hi my loves
The Good Brothers wrap up their Elseworld's Finest Month the right way, with a gargantuan team-up between the Dark Knight and the Man of Steel to battle Lex Luthor and an army of DC Comics villains in the DC Animated direct-to-video feature "Superman/Batman: Public Enemies." The hosts chat about the adaptation from the source material from writer Jeph Loeb and artist Ed McGuinness, necessary departures from the source and how the plot does nothing to disguise itself as anything but an old-fashioned superhero story. Liam & Cal also discuss the choice from Andrea Romano to cast many voices from Batman The Animated Series and Superman The Animated Series in familiar featured roles as well as recognizable names from other favorite childhood media. The hosts also discuss the more cinematic soundtrack and the value of listening to pieces in isolation and so much more on this giant-sized edition of the DCAU Review! Please Consider Supporting the Podcast:Become a monthly or one time supporter of the pod at https://buymeacoffee.com/DCAUReviewSubscribe to the pod on Spotify or Apple Podcasts and please consider leaving us a 5-star reviewSubscribe to our new YouTube Channel Support the pod by picking up some merch at our shop https://dcaureview.myspreadshop.comFollow us: Twitter/X @DCAUReview Instagram @DCAUReviewFinal Scores:Plot: Cal: 9/10 – Liam: 7/10Visuals/Animation: Cal: 9/10 – Liam: 9/10Music: Cal: 7/10 – Liam: 7/10Voice Acting: Cal: 10/10 – Liam: 10/10Bonus Point: NoneFinal Tally: Cal: 35/40 – Liam: 33/40
Up in the sky, it's a bird, it's a plane, it's the DCAU Review and they're here to celebrate Superman Day a day late with a continuance of Elseworld's Finest Month and a look at the Man of Steel's most recent iteration in animation, My Adventures with Superman. The hosts pick up where they left off last May with Part II of "Adventures of a Normal Man" and discuss a plot the leans heavily on dialogue and world building while separating itself from other animated versions of Superman. The hosts also talk the main Superman theme, Jack Quaid's take on the Man of Steel, foreshadowing of Task Force X and whether they prefer their Superman capes with or without the "S." The hosts are still in a celebratory mood after last week's 350th episode's character spotlight, and have gotten booked their travel through the multiverse once again to visit the Elseworlds of 2004's The Batman cartoon and an appearance of a rogue that was no stranger to the Batman The Animated Series. This week the hosts review Maxie Zeus' one and only appearance in an episode that focuses on the stunted working relationship between this universe's Batman and Batgirl, introduces a brand-new Batsuit and a very George Lucas inspired Batwing. The Batwing isn't the only thing that appears to draw inspiration from Star Wars as Liam and Cal discuss further visuals, along with musical notes that flashback to season one's main theme, and a voice cast with a pair of voice acting legends. The Good Brothers are back once again with another Static Shock review, this week with the season 4 caper that finds Static up against a scarlet speedster (but not THE Scarlet Speedster) in the episode "Now You See Him..." The hosts break down a plot the borrows some similar tech from a Batman The Animated Series episode with a bit of romance and Revenge of the Nerds thrown in, plus music that homages 80s alt-rock and 90s pop punk and a villain voiced by an actor typically found in a galaxy far, far away! Plus the hosts talk differences between Hypertime and the Speed Force, a very Twilight Zone ending for our villain and the question of the week that asks about a potential Daisy/Virgil romance storyline. If you think Juliette was insane with her visions of Equalia, perhaps you should take a look at the writers for even conjuring this episode together in the first place. An absolute stinker that never seemed to know what it was, or even what it wanted to be, which is unfortunate because there were several interesting directions that could've been taken. We also discuss another Simpsons "heel" theory, Dando wetting the bed, the best way to eat a peach and more.If you enjoy this review, please consider supporting us on Patreon for as little as $1 per month at patreon.com/fourfingerdiscountListen on Spotify - spoti.fi/4fDcSY0Listen on Apple Podcasts - apple.co/4dgpW3ZCHECK OUT OUR OTHER PODCASTS:Toon'd In! with Jim Cummings - spreaker.com/show/toond-in-with-jim-cummingsGoin' Down To South Park - spreaker.com/show/goin-down-to-south-parkThe Movie Guide with Leonard Maltin - themovieguidepodcast.comThe One About Friends - spreaker.com/show/the-one-about-friends-podcastTalking Seinfeld - spreaker.com/show/talking-seinfeldSpeaKing Of The Hill - spreaker.com/show/speaking-of-the-hill-a-king-of-the-hill-The Office Talk - spreaker.com/show/the-office-talk-podcastBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/four-finger-discount-simpsons-podcast--5828977/support.

CAUTION! This week's episode is filled with stingers AND zingers as we tackle 'The Burns and the Bees', an episode that kinda just feels, "there". Apparently the fate of the world's bees falls on Lisa's shoulders (well, her face) and nobody seems to care besides her. Meanwhile Mr. Burns looks to Marc Cuban on how a billionaire can have fun AND be rich. A new month means the Good Brothers are moving on to another DCAU series, spending the next few weeks in Dakota and Static Shock. This week's episode is the sequel to one of the best Static episodes featuring the African superhero Anansi the Spider, in "Out of Africa." The hosts discuss the difficulties in following up an episode as great as "Static in Africa" with a sequel, the expanded rogues from African folklore and music that really drives home the native music for our guest star. Plus, the hosts talk about the very Sharon-centric story, where Osebo might have gotten his wealth and the question of the week inquires about the fictional place of Marvel heroes within the DCAU. A pretty controversial theme for a Simpsons episode, even if it does feel like it came 5 years too late. Essentially, Bart befriends a muslim boy and Homer quickly assumes he and his family are terrorists. Meanwhile, Lisa becomes obsessed with Mapple products. We also discuss becoming hackers, pointless calendars, buying new Simpsons PJs and more.Support the Four Finger Discount Network for EARLY & AD-FREE access to every show we produce, as well as 100 hours of exclusive content!
