SVXY UVXY Shot across the bow if you are trading options on VolocityShare products as well....Wonder how many of them took people to "The Horse"? Question from Stifl - Great show. Agree with Mark about the OI change graph in LiveVol it's very useful. Only problem is that it only goes back a few months. Any tools out there that go back farther? Comment from DannyBzak - These funds are tracking an index. The index itself was down 96% on 2/5. This is a flaw in index design, not a fund problem. ETP's just can't decide to suddenly not track the index they are mandated to track. Someone needs a better mousetrap to track short vol in index form….Or a more realistic conclusion is that short vol is not a realistically scalable concept in index/ETP form. IMO short vol is something that is better served by active management, not a passive index...Which is the design flaw of thinking one should make an index designed to replicate a short position on anything. In reality someone who is smart enough to be short is smart enough to manage the risks of being short. These indexes have zero risk management built in. Question from Brian Collamer - Back in October I sent this question and I see you ran with it in a couple of other shows: “You mentioned that when selling options the fastest theta decay occurs in the 45-30 day range. I thought that was only true for ATM options? Do OTM options decay the fastest at 60-70 days and then kind of flatten out?” In each show you had asked where I had seen/heard this. LiveVol blog and forum. Thanks for the great content! PS: Futures Roundtable needs to be twice a month IMHO. Question from Imbroglio - If I exercise a call option what happens - do I just hit a button and the stock hits my account? Or does it take some time? When do I actually get the stock? If I want to collect a dividend do I need to exercise a few days early in order to get the stock in time to collect the dividend? Question from Angry Bunny - What the hell is a front spread? How does it differ from a back spread? Who the hell comes up with these names? They seem to make no sense. Question from Neal Tompkins - How do I know when an option is going to be less liquid? What are some good suggestions for dealing with less liquid options? Question from Jason Dague - I am long AAPL from about $99, and have a protective put on right now at $105 for July. When do you know whether to roll your put up? I am obviously down on the put by ~%70% from where I bought it in November. Question from Jay - If the market is really falling out of bed what are some good strategies to take advantage of that movement while also minimizing option decay? Question from Matt Dilks - Hi, I have just listened to Mark on Topstep trader, and missed the questions. But could you recommend which company/broker to get a sim/demo account to get to grips with trading options? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Question from John D. - Hi, Love your show. You guys do a great job. Keep up the good work. My question...If I am looking at a pair trade (e.g. long Facebook, short Twitter), obviously I can do it by buying/shorting the stocks. I was trying to figure out if there is any way to effective do the same thing with options what the advantages might be, if any. I thought of doing a synthetic long/short, but did not see any advantage since I will be naked short an option for both names... but maybe margin treatment is different? Long call on one and log put on the other does not seem to make sense since I am pretty much guaranteed to lose the premium on both those positions. Is there another or better way to structure this type of trade using options? Thanks.

The Inbox: Listener questions and comments Question from Athlas: Seems like the front of the focus on HFT gaming in on the equity markets. I know you have discussed the penetration, or lack thereof, of this type of gaming into derivatives on earlier podcasts. My question is, why do you think this sort of gaming has not penetrated significantly into options and futures? Does the complexity of these instruments vs single price instruments, like stocks, make them less susceptible to latency issues and flickering quotes? Or is there something else at work here? Question from Rance Barber: I am a long-time listener to all of the Options Insider Radio shows and often hear Mark quote trading volume statistics. Have you identified any aggregate, reliable source for stock market trading volume data? I am looking for the data by month (2003-present) and it needs to include both traditional public exchanges as well as dark pool trading volume information. Any advice you can provide as to where I could find this data would be much appreciated. Thanks, Rance. Question from Guled - Hi! Which options software has the capability to automate the unusual options volume? E.g. with filters such as, on bid/ask, above/below open interest. Have found two professional grade LiveVol and Trade Alert, but do not know if they automate the process? Would be grateful for any help, many thanks in advance Thanks, Guled.

Trading Tech Talk 13: Algo Hardware and High Speed Networks CTO Interview: Today's guest is James Spooner, VP of Trading Platforms at Maxeler Technologies. In this segment, he discusses: An overview of his background in the financial market, as well an overview of what he does at Maxeler Technologies. If he has seen an increased demand for your products in the wake of Dodd/Frank? How Maxeler Technologies will custom design hardware to meet the specifications of a customer's algorithm His take on the recent criticisms regarding potential abuses of those networks raised by Michael Lewis and other authors? What he thinks of the introduction of artificial delays in HFT networks in an attempt to stifle abuses? If he thinks we are seeing growing concerns over a lack of synchronization in the financial markets, is this a concern for Maxeler as well? What new products or developments can we expect from Maxeler in the coming months? Trading Tech Talk 11: The Stealth Options Exchange CTO Interview Segment: Today's guest is Joe Corona, Director of Strategic Planning and Product Strategy at LiquidPoint, LLC.   He discusses: An overview of his background in the derivatives markets An overview of LiquidPoint, which is part of ConvergEx Group Who is the typical end user? Is it true that LiquidPoint would be the equivalent of the #7 options exchange if you aggregated all of the flow? What are the main LiquidPoint algo types and what area of the derivatives market are they aimed at? How does LiquidPoint's algo address the many issues associated with executing multi-leg spreads across exchanges? Will their spread algo go the extra step and take delta risk on behalf of the client to execute an order? Does he feel that we have reached the point of diminishing returns and increasing risk whenever a new venue is added to the marketplace? His response to the post-Flashboys hysteria - particularly on the subject of dark pools? What was the impetus behind the recent software merger with Actant? What was the impetus behind your merger with LiveVol?   The Inbox: Listener questions and comments Question from Neal Finn - You discussed the tech problems with Mini options on a recent episode. NASDAQ released a notice two weeks ago saying they will no longer add new series to the existing Minis. Do you expect other exchanges to follow suit? Is this the end of Mini options? Question from StandingO - The options insider complies a significant amount of unusual activity on a daily basis. I find some of the more obviously illegal trades disturbing, such as the recent well-timed trades in DG ahead of the Carl Icahn announcement. What sort of technology does the SEC and CFTC use to track these trades and trace them back to their source? Or am I living in a dreamworld and do these guys typically get away with it?

Option Block 319: Why Would Anyone Do That? Trading Block Indexes are at the same level as this morning but the S&P 500 could hit another record close. VIX high on the continuing drama in Ukraine. Staples falls on disappointing quarterly numbers. Federal Reserve data released on Thursday. Ukraine and Nat Gas. Jobless claims Thursday - Nonfarms Friday.  Odd Block Puts trade in James River Coal Company (JRCC), puts trade in CommonWealth REIT (CWH), buy-write traders in MeetMe (MEET) and long close in SPDR KBW Regional Bank ETF (KRE) Xpress Block Alex clears up the confusion caused by the upcoming dividend of the Qs. Soda Stream lit up the tape late in the session. Mail Block Question from J. Charles - My question for the all-star panel is about analytics platforms. I have heard you guys mention a variety of different suites, live LiveVol. I pretty much just use my brokers tools and they work fine for me. I can pull up the options chains, click on the strikes and options I want to trade, click on the option to enter a trade and all that stuff. I can also pull up skews and research. It really does the job for me. What is ti that these other platforms offer you that would be worth paying $200+ a month in extra fees? Sorry but I am no an OX customer - although the show is pulling me in that direction. Hope that does not hurt my chances of being featured on the program. Comment from Bryan Nic - @Options Just pulled up OB on your app. Hundreds of episodes waiting for me. Thats serious streaming goodness. Commute is covered now. Thx. Question from Avent - Bought 50 ZNGA Mar 5 calls for $.17 last month. They are sitting around $.60 now. What should I do - sell? Sell half and let the rest ride? Roll to April 6 calls for $.28? Take the stock and then write covered calls against it? I am still mildly bullish on ZNGA, but worried about a near term correction. Question from Phillip Gregory, Dallas, TX - I like your advice about writing puts to get long stock. But I keep hearing people warning me about gap risk. What exactly are they talking about? Is this something unique to options or are limit stock orders just subject to gap risk?
