Adam Cianciarulo is always a thoughtful and articulate interview, but he's finally bringing those popular skills to the center as a genuine title contender in the 450 Class. His rookie big-bike season included a second-half flurry that put the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship in reach, but, win or lose, he was just happy to avoid the many hazards are hurdles of the premier class and make gains throughout the year. In this podcast, culled from several interviews with Jason Weigandt and Cianciarulo over the final rounds of the season, you'll hear Adam's take on learning and growing, rediscovering the addiction to winning without getting too frustrated if he loses, as well as ancillary thoughts on why 250 riders don't win as soon as they turn pro anymore, and other topics. As a student of the game, Adam knows the sport well. Here's his take on racing in 2020. The Racer X Exhaust podcast is presented by Yoshimura.

With the Monster Energy Supercross Championship under his belt, Eli Tomac looks bulletproof heading into yet another Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship defense. Who will be his main competitors? Jason Weigandt, Steve Matthes, and Jason Thomas discuss that in the audio version of our motocross season preview videos, and Weigandt also adds commentary on the recent news that Ken Roczen will forgo the season to rest and recover for 2021. The Racer X Exhaust podcast is presented by Yoshimura.
Lucas Oil Pro Motocross is again on hold, with the planned-for July 18 start to the season now pushed into August. A global pandemic might be the most complex problem ever to work around, but we all want to go racing, so this announcement certainly hasn't made fans happy. Jason Weigandt rang up Davey Coombs, who—full disclosure, is his boss at Racer X and also is part of the family that runs the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship—to learn more details as to why the nationals had to delay again. The takeaway? There are a few major reasons: teams have begun to express fears over travel from state to state at the moment; watching COVID rates rise has made predicting the future decisions of multiple state governments very difficult; and the races need fans to operate, because the economic model for Pro Motocross is much different than that of Monster Energy Supercross (it's more similar to many other smaller racing series that can't operate without fans). Also, the series does not want to start until it knows it can put together an entire series. Racing once and then stopping and waiting is not the plan that MX Sports want to use. Hopefully they can string together more races in a row by pushing back, and then an actual championship schedule can grow clear. The Racer X Exhaust podcast is presented by Yoshimura.
Presented by FLY RacingWhen the “indefinite postponement” of 2020 Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship came today, we called our contacts at MX Sports for more details. No, the race season will not kick off in the middle of July like we expected, but it's not all bad news. Our main conversation was with Events Organizer Tim Cotter, and it answered a lot of questions that many of us have thought about over the last few weeks. Tim is one of the guys we see at every round of the outdoors series and his role in the newly founded Race Leadership Team means that he's discussed and planned for every possible scenario this summer.During our talk, Tim explained that the current plan is to start the season at some point in August and to hold a minimum of six races, but maybe as many as nine, all of which depends on how the next few weeks play out. There will be restrictions and requirements in place at the track, something we had long assumed but hadn't heard directly from MX Sports until now, all of which were addressed. If you come to the races, don't expect much interaction between yourself and the pros, nor the usual mass gathering at the podium after each moto. For those of you wondering, wearing a face covering will be encouraged but not mandatory. One of the biggest details of the talk with Tim was that MX Sports intends to announce races 30-days ahead of time and that we can expect some more information to come out in mid-July.
Presented by 6D HelmetsIt was a busy weekend for the SML Crew! Although there was no pro racing to speak of anywhere in the States, we headed to Glen Helen Raceway in Southern California and joined our fellow Vet Class warriors for two days of racing at the Trans Am Vet Classic. An event that caters to the aged and experienced rider with a unique track, full gates, and awards, the Trans Am Vet Classic is one of our favorite times of the year. Our resident Clydesdale Class competitor Dominic Gaytan filled us in with details of what it was like to spin laps on the track while Chase Curtis recapped the bar to bar battles he witnessed from the infield. After a half-hour of chatting about the weekend, we turned our attention to the latest developments in the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship and Monster Energy FIM Motocross World Championship, two series that are still feeling the effects of the COVID-19 closures. Who will Mitch Payton put on the Pro Circuit KX250? What class will Christian Craig line up for? Under what conditions will the races happen?
Presented by 6D HelmetsThe COVID-19 crisis has had a major impact on the Monster Energy Supercross Series and over the last few weeks we've seen announcements of cancelled rounds and intentions for makeup dates at a later time in the year. Dave Prater is the Senior Director of Operations for Two Wheel activity at Feld Entertainment and has been one of the key people working out possible solutions, including the current plan to resume completion in September, after the conclusion of the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship. But as you'll hear in our conversation, there are a lot of factors that must be taken into consideration, mostly what venues will be available and when, and what will happen with the mainstream sport that are going for similar dates.During our conversation, Prater explained the chain of events that led to the Indy Supercross cancellation and then the other dates, plus the current plan for the Fall races.
Presented by OGIO Powersports The last few weeks have been busy for Benny Bloss. There was the news that he would not be offered a contract extension by Rocky Mountain ATV-MC/WPS/KTM for 2020, a last hurrah with the team at the 2019 Monster Energy Cup in October, lots of phone calls to put secure a ride for 2020, an offseason race in Spain, and now confirmation that he will take on the full Monster Energy Supercross Series and Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship in the 450 class with support from Rock River Yamaha. For this week's episode of the OGIO Powersports How Was Your Weekend Podcast, we rang up Bloss and discussed his return to Rock River (the Midwest dealership was a long-time sponsor), how he has adapted to the YZ450F, and what he expects of himself in the looming race season.
Presented by Fly Racing Of the handful of anti-doping violations in professional motocross, Cade Clason's case is one of the more mismanaged. Clason, a privateer that followed the US pro series for years, tested positive for a prohibited unless TUE-approved amphetamine in 2017 and had his racing career come to an abrupt halt. When news of the time the result became public, Clason immediately stated that the substance was Adderall, a medicine that can be approved by WADA on a case by case basis if deemed necessary, and that he had filed the paper but took it without hearing back from officials if the use was approved. The misunderstanding made no difference to the authorities that presided over the case and Clason was issued a suspension from competition in for the 2018 and 2019 seasons by the FIM. While Clason was kept from racing, he was approached by FXR's Andy White with a job offer to help manage the gear brand's growing list of supported riders, a job that kept him at events in North America. When a major shakeup in Canadian motocross pulled the National series away from the FIM-recognized federation, Clason was technically free to race the Rockstar Energy MX Championship and he did so in 2018 and 2019. In the middle of this past summer, Clason's suspension was lifted by the FIM and he was free to compete at AMA-FIM organized events again. Once his AMA membership was approved, he made it to the starting line for the Unadilla and Ironman rounds of the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship. Just before the last race of the year, we sat down with Clason and discussed much of what has gone down since 2017, how the time away helped him appreciate racing, his move to Arizona with his wife, and what the future holds.

The 2018 Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship kicks off Saturday at Hangtown. On Thursday, Eli Tomac, Marvin Musquin, Jason Anderson, Weston Peick, Justin Barcia, and Ken Roczen from 450s and Zach Osborne, Jeremy Martin, Aaron Plessinger, Alex Martin, Justin Hill and Joey Savatgy from 250s spoke to the media.
On the eve of the 2018 Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship, MX Sports Pro Racing President (and Racer X editor-in-chief) Davey Coombs explains how the AMA National Motocross Championship actually started. It's not what you'd think. When the series started in 1972, several other big series and races were already rooted into America. Because of this, many of the top names didn't even compete in the Nationals except when the events were combined with others, including some big-money races promoted by Evel Knievel! The same year, the Japanese brands began making their push to the top of the sport, what we know now as supercross kicked off with the 1972 Superbowl of Motocross in Los Angeles, and one visiting European saw his title chances dashed when his van (and works bikes) were stolen. Enjoy this lighthearted trip to the past, including some laughs over the race reports and win ads of the day. The Nationals started with humble roots—learn all about it here before the 50th Hangtown Classic kicks off another season on Saturday. The Racer X Exhaust podcast is presented by Yoshimura.
