Ausprägungen wie Autismus, Tourette oder ADHS müssen keine Störungen sein. Sie werden teils sogar als Superkräfte angesehen. Bloss ein Trend oder doch ein grundsätzliches Umdenken, wie die Gesellschaft auf neurobiologisches Anderssein blickt? Feuerwehrmann mit Tourette – Normalität, einen Tick anders Praktisch über Nacht war alles anders. Mit 17 Jahren zeigten sich bei Simon Buchser die ersten Symptome des Tourette-Syndroms: Unkontrollierte Bewegungen, selbstverletzendes Verhalten und plötzliche Kraftausdrücke liessen ihn sich immer mehr aus der Öffentlichkeit zurückziehen. Heute ist er 22 und hat den Weg zurück in den Alltag geschafft. Er macht eine Lehre als Lastwagenmechaniker und ist Mitglied der freiwilligen Feuerwehr. «Puls» besucht ihn in seiner zurückgewonnenen Normalität – die trotzdem etwas anders ist. Schwieriger Karriere-Start – Mit Autismus durchs Studium Autismus ist nicht gleich Autismus. Ein Teil der Betroffenen hat einen hohen Leidensdruck und ist stark auf Unterstützung angewiesen. Aber längst nicht alle. Nicht wenige haben kognitiv keine Einschränkungen – oder sind gar hochintelligent. Und selbst dann ist ihr Alltag in der «neurotypischen» Welt der Durchschnittsmenschen nicht einfach. Zum Beispiel für Studierende. Ein Besuch an der Universität Freiburg, wo die junge Westschweizerin Romane ihren Master absolviert und als Autismus-Betroffene mit vielen Hürden zu kämpfen hat. ADHS und Autismus als Superkraft? – Zu Besuch bei einer neurodiversen Firma Medizinisch sind ADHS oder Autismus als Störungen definiert. Genau dieser Betrachtung widerspricht die Idee der Neurodiversität – und auch die Zürcher Marketing-Agentur «TwoFold». Sie glaubt an die Kraft eines vielfältigen Teams: In der Agentur arbeiten neurotypische Menschen und solche mit ADHS oder Autismus erfolgreich zusammen. Wo liegen die Stärken eines solchen Teams? Und ist dieses Konzept auch in der Arbeitswelt der Mehrheitsgesellschaft möglich?

Denn in grauer Vorzeit mit beschränktem Nahrungsangebot war es überlebensnotwendig, haushälterisch mit der eigenen Energie umzugehen. Heutzutage ist dieser genetische Hang zum Faulenzen allerdings kontraproduktiv, denn viele nehmen ständig viel mehr Kalorien zu uns, als sie verbrauchen. Mit bekannten Folgen. Mehr Bewegung würde dabei guttun. Bloss fehlt es dafür gerne an Motivation und Durchhaltewillen. Geht es auch ohne Sport? Sechs Monate lang mussten sie auf Rolltreppe und Lift verzichten und täglich 6000 Schritte anpeilen – einzig indem sie mehr zu Fuss unterwegs waren. Ist es ihnen gelungen, motiviert zu bleiben? Last night against the Pirates amid game, news broke across the city that the Astros traded for a new arm added to the rotation. The Astros acquired Yusei Kikuchi by sending off Loperfido, Bloss, and Wagner to the Blue Jays. Many debate was this the right move to make with the deadline approaching?

Houston Astros manager Joe Espada joins The Matt Thomas Show following a trade with the Toronto Blue Jays for left-handed starter Yusei Kikuchi. Rookie starter Jake Bloss was scratched ahead of Monday's 5-3 loss to the Pittsburgh Pirates at Minute Maid Park. At the game's conclusion, it was announced that Bloss, along with rookie outfielder Joey Loperfido and No. 13 prospect Will Wagner, were being sent to the Blue Jays for the 33-year-old Kikuchi. "It's not easy. It's part of the business," Espada said. "We really need this injection of someone who we've seen for years get deep in games, save our bullpen, and give us an opportunity to win every day." While Kikuchi hasn't been consistent most of this season (0-4 with a 7.75 ERA and 1.57 WHIP in his last eight starts), Espada believes the Astros coaching staff can help Kikuchi be more efficient. "I'm confident we're going to make those adjustments and make him a better pitcher." Espada also says Justin Verlander and Luis Garcia are both making a "huge step forward" in returning from injury and comments on the Astros preparing for the last stretch of the season. "This is when you start seeing the character and makeup of your team."

"It's not easy. It's part of the business," Espada said. "We really need this injection of someone who we've seen for years get deep in games, save our bullpen, and give us an opportunity to win every day." While Kikuchi hasn't been consistent most of this season (0-4 with a 7.75 ERA and 1.57 WHIP in his last eight starts), Espada believes the Astros coaching staff can help Kikuchi be more efficient. "I'm confident we're going to make those adjustments and make him a better pitcher." Espada also says Justin Verlander and Luis Garcia are both making a "huge step forward" in returning from injury and comments on the Astros preparing for the last stretch of the season. "This is when you start seeing the character and makeup of your team."
