Everyone wants to feel at home in their home. For some of us, nothing can be further from the truth. Our homes are sterile, uninspiring, or on the flip side cluttered and overwhelming. The good news is, transformation can often happen with just a few tweaks here and there. Today, we're joined by Marian Parson, known online as Miss Mustard Seed. Marian is a pastor's wife, mother of two boys, paint enthusiast, and lover of all things home. She's recently released her fifth book, Feels Like Home: Transforming Your Space from Uninspiring to Uniquely Yours and she's here to specifically give hope to those of us who are chronically hesitant decorators who might want to transform their spaces but aren't sure where to start.

Well, my friend, you are in luck. The secrets for how to turn a cookie cutter house - or one that no longer fits your design aesthetic - into one that feels like a home that fits you and your family are simply a 5 step process away. And don't worry if you have no idea what your design aesthetic even is...that's part of the process too. This may sound strange coming from someone who classifies themselves as a wannabe minimalist, but I believe minimalism is about giving yourself the freedom and ability to say no to the things that you don't like or that don't matter to you, so that you can fully embrace the things that do work for you (and the people you share your life with). That is true in all of the areas in your life from what you wear to the hobbies you choose, and of course in how you style your home. My guest on this episode of the Wannabe Minimalist Show knows a thing or two about creating a unique space. She did this for herself and her family when she found herself living in suburbia after a cross-country move, instead of in the 100-year-old farmhouse she had been dreaming of. Her experience and lessons for how to create a unique home for yourself are what inspired her new book, ***Feels Like Home: Transforming Your Space from Uninspiring to Uniquely Yours.***Marian Parson is a wife, mother of two boys, paint enthusiast, lover of all things home and author of *Feels Like Home*. She started Mustard Seed Interiors in 2008, as a way to earn extra money for groceries. What started out as a one-woman decorative painting and mural business evolved into an antiques business that tripped into a blog and blossomed into a successful international brand. While the focus has been on the home, the heart of her blog and business has always been providing encouragement and inspiration to women in the areas of decorating, homemaking, and creative endeavors. Our discussions starts with looking at how Marian's journey started and why our relationships with our homes are so important. Then we dive into an area I was selfishly looking forward to and that's how to style your home to make people say, wow, you did this? This episode of the Wannabe Minimalist Show will also help you discover:- Why it's important to create a space that is a reflection of who lives there- 5 steps to take your space from nice to wow!- A simple exercise to get to know your unique style- What you can do to get your family interested in redecorating your space- The #1 thing you can start today that will help you be able to create the home you loveSubscribe & ReviewAre you subscribed to the Wannabe Minimalist Show podcast? My most requested guest - Marian Parsons is on the podcast today! Business owner, artist, blogger, creative, author, painter, booth and market seller, podcast host, product developer, paint line owner, business mentor - and so much more. We chat about her business journey and how she has evolved and grown her beautiful business, staying creative, and so much more. In 2008, Marian was a mom of a four-month-old and a two-year-old, had no money or experience in running a business, but her family needed to make some extra money. So she began decorative furniture painting and painting murals in local homes. Realizing that this wasn't all that she wanted to do, Marian quickly evolved, started a blog, and re-branded herself as a business focusing on antiques, home decor, and painting. She became a vendor at the Lucketts Store and had a milk paint line which made her feel as though she was flying by the seat of her pants. All while being a sponge and learning from the amazing people she surrounded herself with. Yet another Accidental Entrepreneur… Full show notes at https://wendybatten.com/episode-68/
