Why Did I Get Cancer?

Make America Healthy Again? Have we ever been healthy? I've been in the health field for thirty-five years. In all that time, I had never heard a news media report on red dyes in food. For the first time, I'm encouraged by the future of our American food system! For me, this is not a political issue. I truly want to give people the same opportunities that I have. I know how to read labels and avoid cancer-causing ingredients in my food. Most people don't. Americans are starting to question our food manufacturers. That's a big first step in eliminating harmful ingredients from food (many of which have been banned in Europe for decades). Today's podcast, with MAHA advocate and activist Kelly Ryerson, made me sad and mad. Kelly (Glyphosate Girl) discussed the damage glyphosate (the active ingredient in Roundup) does to our environment and bodies. Kelly has spent years in the trenches explaining why this chemical is so dangerous to anyone who would listen. It's such an easy default to use a heavy chemical load to kill weeks. Did you know there are simple alternatives to using such a large amount of chemicals in farming? Kelly also explained that while this product is sold in Europe, the company that makes Roundup has created a less toxic alternative for sale in Europe. This, to me, is mind-blowing! If they can make a less harmful version that still works for Europe, can't one be made for the US as well? ____ Toups and Co It's happened...I'm putting beef tallow on my face, and my skin looks lush, and it doesn't smell like a hamburger :) I've seen the TikTok videos about beef tallow. I avoided trying it because it sounded like I'd be putting grease on my face. Enough people asked me about it, so I started reading more information and trying out various tallows. There was one company that stood out to me. I feel like I hit a home run with the brand Toups and Co. I first heard of this brand on a friend's podcast (Holistic Hilda with the Weston A Price Foundation). She interviewed the founder, Emily Toups. She was a mom looking for a solution to her child's skin issues. She was frustrated with the lack of progress with drugstore and prescription meds, so she reached out to a local farmer for tallow. The rest, as they say, is history. Her daughter is healed, and my skin looks great, haha! Thank you, Toups Family, for making such excellent products and offering my community a 15% discount. I'm currently using: Frankincense Skim Balm Blue Tansy Body Oil The Nourishing Skin Care Set (this includes skin balm, body oil, tinted lip chap, and a tallow bar—and it's on sale!). 113. Uncovering a Cancer Crime Story with Kate Moore, Author of The Radium Girls (Re-release)

Why Did I Get Cancer?

My friend Kim loves crime stories from Crime Junkie to Dateline. Me? Not so much. But I enjoy a good, not-too-gory crime story where the bad guy gets it in the end. Since I'm part of a vast cancer community, I hear stories that encourage me and some that make me so upset that I can't sleep. This is one of those stories. In 1898, Pierre and Madam Curie discovered radium. In 1903, Pierre Curie said, "He would not care to be alone with radium in a room as it would burn all the skin off his body, destroy his eyesight, and probably kill him."  In the 1920s, young women (average age 14) were hired to paint radium on watches and clock dials. Radium was fluorescent, so it made the numbers easier to read. However, it was also incredibly toxic and could turn bones into a fragile honeycomb. Fast forward to New Jersey in 1920 to the U.S. Radium Corporation (USRC). The owners and scientists at USRC knew that radium in large amounts was very dangerous. Yet these young girls were told, "After you dip your paintbrush in radium, put the tip in your mouth to make it a finer point before you start painting." When I told my husband how many of these young women died from radium poisoning, he said, "This is murder." Yes, it was murder. But no one went to jail. However, these women did get their revenge. ______ Ground Luxe When I was forced into menopause with my cancer diagnosis, restful sleep NO LONGER HAPPENED FOR ME. One of my podcast guests shared that he has become a great sleeper, partly thanks to grounding sheets. After my skepticism passed, my desperation to sleep took over. I started reading articles, and I discovered that the science is solid. Studies have shown that participants using grounding sheets experience a significant drop in cortisol levels, leading to improved sleep quality and reduced stress.  What did I have to lose? I researched, found the best grounding sheets on the market for the best price, and bought them. It took me a few nights, but I sleep much deeper now. I fall asleep faster and wake up feeling refreshed! I wish someone had told me about these sheets years ago. I contacted the company, and they offered my community a 20% discount! https://groundluxe.com/deborahenos Use the code Enos20 for 20% off. ______ Toups and Co It's happened...I'm putting beef tallow on my face, and my skin looks lush, and it doesn't smell like a hamburger :) I've seen the TikTok videos about beef tallow. And before I was diagnosed with breast cancer, I never gave it a second thought. Alcohol was part of my social life, or I'd have a glass of wine on a flight to chill out. Recent research has made me rethink my choices. Research shared by the Susan G. Komen Center tells us that each cocktail I consume can increase my breast cancer risk by 7%. And 2-3 drinks per day can increase my risk by 20%. This is why I always have Martinelli Apple Cider on hand. It's my favorite Mocktail!

I first saw Kris on The Oprah Winfrey Show years ago, long before I was diagnosed with cancer. Kris has been living with stage four incurable cancer for twenty-one years. She has tumors inside of her body, and yet she can still love and appreciate her body. Do you struggle to love your body? I think about how I've had a love/hate relationship with my body throughout my life. That's a long time without being in a constant state of appreciation for the body God gave me. Kris told me she is a difficult person and has to work to approach life from a place of love—love for other people and love for herself, her whole self, tumors, and all. I don't have to tell you how much strength it takes to face each day with LOVE, all while having an incurable form of cancer. If there's one podcast you listen to this week, this is it. About Kris Carr Kris Carr is a beacon of hope, resilience, and wellness leadership. As a New York Times bestselling author and esteemed wellness advocate, Kris Carr has defied the odds, thriving with stage IV cancer for over two decades. Throughout her remarkable journey, Kris has not only survived but thrived, embodying the very essence of living life to the fullest. With each passing year, she has gleaned invaluable lessons about self-care and the profound impact one can make on the world. Driven by a deep sense of purpose, Kris has made it her mission to share these insights with millions across the globe. Through her books, talks, and online platforms, she has become a guiding light for those navigating their health challenges, offering practical wisdom and unwavering support. With grace and courage, Kris Carr has reshaped the narrative around illness, proving that adversity can be transformed into opportunity and that every moment is a chance to embrace life's fullest potential.  Connect With Kris Carr Website Book: I'm Not A Mourning Person Instagram Facebook Pinterest ______ Toups and Co It's happened...I'm putting beef tallow on my face, and my skin looks lush, and it doesn't smell like a hamburger :) I've seen the TikTok videos about beef tallow. HELP! Reading labels takes a lot of time, and even with a science degree, I have a hard time figuring out what's good and what's bad. If I'm struggling, I guess you are as well. Food companies must convince you that their product is the best item on the supermarket shelves. Their marketing message is on the front, and the truth is on the back. For example, I picked up a package of high-protein chips at Costco. The front of the package said, "made with the highest quality ingredients." Well, that's great. I flipped the bag over and saw they use canola, sunflower, and safflower oils. These oils are highly inflammatory AND highly processed, NOT GREAT. I hate to say it, but you'll need to assume that most food companies are not going to tell you the truth. It reminds me of that movie with Jack Nicholson and Diane Keeton, Something's Gotta Give. In it, he tells her, "I've always told you some version of the truth," and she responds, "The Truth Doesn't Have Versions!" Unfortunately, there are many versions of the truth in the food world. If you'd like some quick food hacks, my podcast guest, Keith Bishop, has plenty of them! Keith is the guest that always shocks me, and he definitely did with today's episode. It's a shorter episode with loads of takeaways. About Keith Bishop Keith Bishop is the founder of Prevail Over Cancer, dedicated to empowering individuals with knowledge and hope. First, we remember educator, activist, and former First Lady of New Orleans – Sybil Haydel Morial – with an extended version of our 2016 conversation with her. She shares stories of growing up in the Jim Crow South and her husband's successful campaign to become first Black mayor of New Orleans. We also discuss the key roles Leah Chase and Dooky Chase's Restaurant played in Sybil's life. We also celebrate two restaurateurs who took on the task of feeding food insecure kids over the summer – Amanda and Isaac Toups of Toups' Meatery. We revisit our conversation with Amanda and give you an update on what their new nonprofit, Toups' Family Meal, accomplished in 2024. What Your GP Doesn’t Tell You
Could Dementia Be Preventable and Treatable?

What Your GP Doesn’t Tell You

The idea of developing dementia is probably one of our greatest health fears. We tend to think of it as an irreversible disease that gradually robs us of our faculties. But podcast guest, psychiatrist Dr Kat Toups is one of a group of doctors and researchers who argues that certainly in its early stages, the disease is actually reversible. The mistake - she says  - is to think of dementia as an illness with a sole cause and instead we need to see it as multi-system disease, which requires a coordinated approach to work out what is injuring the brain and then provide effective treatment. Toups calls her approach the three Rs: remove, replace and regenerate. So that means taking away anything causing problems; providing the nutrients and hormones to help the brain function optimally; and then using a number of neuroplasticity techniques to enable the brain to form new connections and regenerate. Patients in her latest study who have undergone her protocol have seen a remarkable improvement. Their brain scans are now showing less signs of aging than those who don't have dementia. All of her subjects have now raised their cognitive scores into the normal range. In one case a fine artist who had had to stop painting has been able to start painting again and has even opened a new exhibition, and another patient has just started a new business. For the full details of the protocol, please click here.
