Joining me today is Gary Williams, the author of the book Choose Your Best Life, and is an outstanding coach at Self-Publishing School. Gary has enthusiastically assisted hundreds of students with over 4,000 hours in coaching calls to publish their book. Learn how the Myers-Briggs personality assessment can be used as a tool when you write your book and his process he has learned and refined for book writing, and how you can apply this methodology to change in your life. Myers-Briggs test gives you an understanding of the four different types of preferences for individuals with differing personalities display. This tool can be used to find a preference type. “The goal is to identify your natural preference and to be able to uncover that so we can identify our unique personality type.” You understand and receive information through sensing and intuition. “Those who prefer to use sense, prefer to use their concrete sensing to understand the world around them. Typically, this person prefers to receive information that is black and white, that’s concrete and very factual.” On the flip side is intuition, represented by the letter “N.” These personality types prefer theory and process information using their “sixth sense.” “There’s this concept underneath cognitive functions, and there’s this whole deeper layering looking at the process of your mind.” Different types of personalities will write and continue the process of writing differently. Those who prefer structure will move through the more structured kind of work well, while those who prefer using their intuition will welcome the open-ended creative processes. “It’s cool to see how these different preferences can play out and manifest themselves in a journey like writing a book or completing a new project.” Listen in to find out why you can be both a thinker and a feeler, why a sense of completion needs to happen before moving on, and why people who are “perceiver” will handle their completion goals differently. How to Build a Culture of Courageous Accountability With Lee Ellis

Lee Ellis is President and Founder of Leadership Freedom® and FreedomStar Media™. For more than fifteen years he has served as an executive coach and a corporate consultant in the areas of hiring, teambuilding, leadership development, and succession planning. His clients include Fortune 500 senior executives and C-Level leaders in a variety of industries. Since 1990, Lee has managed the development, validation, and internet deployment of several personality and leadership assessments that have been used by more than 200,000 individuals. Early in his career, Lee served as an Air Force fighter pilot flying fifty-three combat missions over North Vietnam. In 1967, he was shot down and held as a POW for more than five years in Hanoi and surrounding camps.   After the war, he served as an instructor pilot, chief of flight standardization/evaluation, and flying squadron commander. Additionally, he commanded two leadership development organizations before retiring as a colonel. Lee’s combat decorations include two Silver Stars, the Legion of Merit, the Bronze Star with Valor device, the Purple Heart, and the POW medal. Favorite Success Quote “Be courageous. Lean into the pain of your doubts and fears to do what you know is right, even when it feels unnatural or uncomfortable.” ~Lee Ellis Key Points 1. Living a Life of Honor is the Ultimate Success There was once a story that one of my employees shared with me about a life lesson his grandfather had shared with him during his summer stint working as a landscaper. His grandad had spent nearly a decade of his life operating a construction contracting business, designing and building custom homes for the upper class members of his hometown. One of his clients who had been a long time acquantaince hired his grandfather to build a home costing several hundred thousand dollars (back in the 80’s). Happy to oblige his friend, the grandfather took the contract and completed the home to perfection. When the work was done and the house was built, he went to his friend to collect the payment for his services. His friend however, had no intention of paying for the home and due to the ambiguous terms of their contract, he knew that pursuing a law suit would be a costly endeavor. My employee’s grandfather simply shrugged and shook the man’s hand saying “If you can live with it, then I can live without it.” He continued on grinding and working hard, developing a number of successful businesses throughout the years and achieving great successes in his personal and professional life, always conducting business with integrity and honor. The other man however, despite his massive financial success, died of a massive heart attack at his office, alone and unloved. While the contrast between the two men may seem obvious, the true moral of this story is that success is not about material wealth or finanical gain. It’s about doing the right thing no matter what the cost. That is no small order, but if you can carry out your life with honor each and every day, you will be able to die fulfilled and live a life of joy and companionship. 2. You Cannot Manage Yourself Unless You Know Yourself How many of you have taken the Myers Brigg’s Personality Test? If you have, then odds are good that some of the conclusions the test made about you and your personality may have surprised you. And herein lies one of the greatest problems with our society. We do not value introspection and self knowledge like Eastern societies and ancient people’s did. We value work and results. And while these two things are important, you will never be able to achieve at your fullest potential if you do not know yourself as deeply and intimately as possible. Just think about it. How can you ever expect to perform at a high level if you do not first know who you are and how you perform? How can you succeed when everything you are doing is in stark opposition to your deeply held values and personality? You must discover who you really are, how you work best, what personality traits you have, what motivates you, what discourages you, what strikes fear into your heart, and what you truly want. Because unless you can answer those questions, you will never truly tap into your potential. 3. Guard Your Character and Make Decision Based Upon Values The greatest travesty of every generation is the young men and women with boundless potential who waste everything because they did not guard their character. Everyone knows that kid, maybe you met them in high school or grew up with them in your hometown, who showed tremendous potential growing up. They were the captain of the football team, the straight A student and the leader of all of the clubs at their school. They had it all. But somewhere along the lines, they screwed up. They made that one compromise of character that opened up Pandora’s box and destroyed their lives. Maybe they cheated on one test and lost a scholarship, maybe they started abusing drugs and were arrested in their first semester, maybe they slept around and ended up getting someone pregnant. Whatever they did, it shocked you because you knew that wasn’t like them. And that’s the point. It takes a lifetime to develop a reputation and build your character, but only one dumb decision to compromise it. If you want to live a fulfilling and joyful life, then you have to make decision based upon your values and not your impulses. While everyone operates under different moral codes, you all know what you consider wrong and right and when you should or should not do something. Listen to that voice in your head and do not compromise your character for anyone or anything. 4. You Have to Balance Results and Relationships There are two basic styles of leadership, results focused and relationship focused. And odds are, if you have spent any appreciable amount of time in the world of high performance leadership, you have come into contact with both styles of leaders. The results focused leader is the stereotypical drill sergeant style of leadership. These are the men who want things to get done, they don’t care who does it or what excuses come up, they simply want things and want them now. Relationship-oriented leaders on the other hand are the types of leaders who care more about their people then the mission, they are the ones who, while admittedly kinder are more likely to get pushed around and taken advantage of. Both styles have their own unique strengths and weaknesses, and all truly excellent leaders know how to balance these two styles of command to achieve their desired outcome. The leader who knows how to balance relationships and results will be able to discern between employees who have been misplaced and assigned to positions that are incongruent with their personalities and employees who are just darn lazy. The leader who knows how to balance relationships and results will be able to know when he is pushing his people too hard and when they have potential to go further. The leader who can balance relationships and results will be able to achieve anything he sets his mind to because he will have his followers love as well as their respect. 5. Face Your Fears and Doubts  Every man has fears and doubts about his worth, ability, and potential. They are bred into us from an early age by society, friends, and even family. But you must realize something. As a man, outside of your integrity, no characteristic will determine your success and fulfillment more than your ability to feel the fear and do it anyways. When Lee and his friends were being tortured and imprisoned by the Viet Cong, do you think that they were not afraid? Do you think that none of them ever thought about betraying their country or ending their own lives to escape the torment? Of course they did! And some of them did. Now, years after the fact, it is the men who were able to embrace their fears and doubts and stand strong who are seen as heroes, who are loved by their brothers in arms, and who can live with a clean conscience and a full heart. Your ability to face and overcome your fears is part of what defines you as a man. Never your fears hold you back from greateness, because at the end of the day, even if you die facing your fears, we are all dead men, and there is nothing more noble and honorable than to give your life pursuing what God put you on this earth to do.the worst thing.

Archetypes are psychological patterns that people use as filters to interact with the world. As a Femmefluencer, knowing the Archetype you use most naturally allows to you most easily enroll others into your vision. In this episode of Femmefluence, we dive deep into Archetypes, what they are and how to learn yours.   Key Points from this Episode There are a ton of ways to assess your personality Humans LOVE learning more about what they’re about it. From horoscopes to assessments for work like DISC and Strengthfinders, to personal assessments like Enneagram and Myers-Brigg, there are a lot of ways to be curious about what makes you and others tick. For 21 years I’ve been obsessed with why humans do things - it’s ultimately why I became a brand futurist - I support brands to create strategies that help them understand why people consume and buy things - especially products and services.  If you’re a woman leader who wants to create more affluence and influence, you want to have these tools in your pocket too. The best way I’ve discovered to do that is an assessment I’ve created (more on that later) It all started when I was in 2nd grade. I went to a small Catholic school where all the other little girls wanted to become teachers and nurses but not me - I wanted to become the General Counsel for Coca-Cola International I didn’t end up becoming a lawyer I have navigated and advised for some of the other great brands of the world When I was 22 and fresh out of college, I pursued a career in marketing and high-tech. Here I worked as a junior copywriter (read: coffee runner) for the largest ad agency in the world. One day as I brought coffee, I listened as the account executives talked about how to better position Coca-Cola’s archetypes to beat Pepsi in sales. From that moment I fell in love with archetypes

Welcome back to the Creative Speaker Podcast! The idea of speaking doesn't feel the same for all of us. Some of you might be listening and ready to jump up on that stage and serve your people. Others might be listening and starting to tremble a little bit at the idea of being on stage. Maybe the thought of public speaking sounds foreign and you feel like you aren't made for the stage. Today I've brought in my friend Brit Kolo, to dive into your Myers Brigg personality type in order to determine the type of marketing strategy that best suits you. If you loved this episode and it motivated you to add speaking to your business, please take the time to leave me some positive feedback on iTunes. I'd also love to hear about your biggest takeaway. Take a screenshot of you listening on your device, post it to your Instagram Stories and tag us @thecreativespeakerpodcast.   Episode takeaways you don't want to miss: It's easy to get overwhelmed with all of the marketing options that entrepreneurs have If your marketing is not genuine it comes off fake, salesy and awkward and wont work If you feel good, your audience feels good. They feed off your energy your marketing strategy shouldn't feel like a “too tight for you” bathing suit Irregardless of your personality type, some people just need to get really clear on their “why” to tap into the best way to deliver their marketing content. Members of the “Analyst” tribe simply need to have a clear strategy to any marketing style they want to pursue. If you're in the “Diplomat” tribe, your “why” matters most to you and if you're passionate about it, you'll do whatever it takes to deliver your message. If you're in the “Sentinel” tribe, the organization of your marketing strategy is what drives you to execute it. If you're in the “Explorer” tribe, you simply need to take action (organization and strategy isn't as important). They learn best through failing a few times. They don't want an exact science. Just some guard rails. Sentinel's tribe members tend to make great event organizers! For full show notes and links, visit: http://www.thepublicspeakingstrategist.com/shownotes/063

Ray Hoffman introduces Kara Trott. Kara Trott does very well by her clients and very well by her clients’ employees. She’s the Founder and CEO of Quantum Health, based in Columbus, Ohio. For companies like Hertz, Dillards, and American Honda, and hospital systems like Houston Methodist, Quantum offers a remarkably personalized approach to healthcare cost containment. It is personalized in the sense that when any of Quantum’s 700,000+ members encounters a medical problem, Quantum steps in almost immediately to help guide each patient through what it calls the healthcare journey, assisting and often intervening from that point on. While using its care coordinators — known inside the company as healthcare warriors — to simplify and clarify this journey for patients, Quantum delivers markedly lower healthcare costs for clients.   Key Takeaways: [1:15] Kara notes the savings Quantum clients see in their first year, from 5% lower claim spending. For large companies, this can be hundreds of millions of dollars. Individuals receiving healthcare conserve more of their out-of-pocket costs. It’s a win-win. [1:41] Kara graduated from law school and worked for Bricker & Eckler, a prestigious Ohio law firm. Before law school, her undergraduate study was on politics and philosophy, particularly Marxist theory. She worked for a marketing, design, and research firm before going to law school. [2:48] Kara had come of age during the Cold War; she thought it would be interesting to study a different way to think and look at macroeconomic matters. It gave her entrepreneur father a fit. She learned a different view but is a firm believer in the free-market system and capitalism. [3:34] Kara’s ex-husband was one of the first Americans to go into Russia to work in 1992 as part of the USAID program after Russia opened up. He and his partners formed a food distribution system in Russia. He and Kara adopted a Russian boy. [4:17] Kara saw in the demise of the Soviet Union that ‘command and control’ is not an effective way to govern large groups of people. You’re always better off freeing the intellectual capacity of the people and empowering them with the freedom to decide. It may take generations for Russia to find the kind of spirit we have in the U.S. [5:24] For Kara, marketing research was finding interesting problems to study and identify solutions. Kara ran strategic projects to help companies understand what people actually do, versus what they say they do. This helps companies rethink their marketing. [6:06] Kara didn’t feel that retail marketing was where she could make the kind of difference she wanted to make so she went to Ohio State Law School and then joined Bricker. She was assigned to the healthcare practice, which was growing. They created a consulting subsidiary to advise provider organizations. [6:43] Kara became one of the leaders of Bricker’s consulting practice, in spite of not knowing much about healthcare at the time. She spent a lot of time with physicians and hospital administrators. Kara learned that patients are not often compliant with their doctor’s treatment plan. [7:44] It was clear to Kara that this was a classic consumer pathway problem that she had seen solved in many other industries. She imagined a strategy for healthcare that had worked well in other industries. It started with studying the consumer journey and how things unfold, then figuring out what the critical intercept points are. [8:25] In Kara’s retail experience, this approach had led to a 20-30% bump in market share, or same-store sales, when executed properly. She figured for healthcare, there would be an extraction of as much as 20% of the unnecessary costs. Based on what doctors and hospitals told her, there was a lot of duplication and waste in the system. [8:59] Kara proposed a two-year research study to track people as they entered the healthcare system for a variety of reasons. Eight healthcare systems were interested in participating. They were able to triangulate the consumer's journey through their interactions with the physicians and compare it to secondary data. [9:41] Kara’s intent was to see how the journey unfolded, what kind of support was needed at what point, and where you would house it. The firm didn’t see it leading to legal fees, so they opted out. Kara had to make a decision to put her livelihood at stake, split from the firm, and embark on a two-year study, before starting a company. [10:43] The survey was a behavioral mapping study. Kara compares it to a study she had done for KMart about which aisles people went through within the store on a visit. Consumers of healthcare reported back to Kara, just as they had about their retail trip. [11:22] Kara says no other company was looking at the problem from the consumer’s standpoint. Even today, she sees no one else studying the consumers’ experience. The healthcare industry doesn’t understand the consumer. [12:05] Kara says she can’t do a single job at Quantum. So, she started with five employees and within a year there were probably 10. She bankrolled that. Quantum now has close to 800 employees and will be adding a couple hundred more between August and November. [12:38] Quantum manages about $7 billion in claims and serves over 1 million people. [13:07] For the first year, because of payroll, Quantum was losing about $40,000 a month. That is the element of risk in starting a company with employees. [13:43] Quantum associates consider themselves as warriors for people going through one of the most difficult times of their life. People on a healthcare journey are seeking a safe place and if you open up that conversation, and you turn it over to them, you have no idea where that call or conversation is going to go. [14:18] Quantum associates need to be prepared to deliver immediate expertise. They have the expertise to be able to navigate between all the different parties. Normally, when somebody’s stuck there are multiple points of failure. Quantum takes those issues on so the person going through the healthcare journey can focus on the journey. [14:45] The Warrior Creed on the wall is a vital piece of the Quantum culture. [15:11] It takes intent to hard-wire brand values into a culture. There are three tests to take before interviewing for a job at Quantum: the Wonderlic test, a test of “what feeds and starves you?” (similar to DISC or Myers-Brigg), and an empathy test. Few are hired from call-centers or insurance companies. Most are from service occupations. [16:18] Quantum has translated the “I care” values into attributes and competencies that form the basis for leadership development and team development. 84% of Quantum managers and above are promoted from within. There is a strong leadership development program at Quantum Health. It’s very much a servant leader organization. [17:13] Quantum has developed their own technology system. The system necessary to see the journey longitudinally, mine the information, see what they needed to do right away and have the expertise available didn’t exist when Quantum Health started. It aggregates data from all different sources. It’s an open system that can pull in any data. [17:47] The biggest thing Quantum Health does differently is to mine data directly from the providers in real time when they’re seeing those patients. The system uses an expert routing approach that gets a healthcare expert on the phone to join a conversation. [18:37] Natural Language Processing mines data and creates a consistent record of everything in the person’s healthcare journey, providing a 360-degree view, to be able to identify and queue up opportunities and ways to assist them. [19:14] Quantum Health has been on the Inc. 5000 list of the fastest-growing small companies 11 years in a row. Fewer than 50 companies have been on it for 10 years. They are experiencing 30 to 40% annual growth. [20:06] Quantum Health has just entered into a relationship with City of Hope to share the expertise of a few facilities with a nationwide network of doctors who don’t have access to that kind of front-line research. [20:36] Kara talks about changes happening in the field of behavioral health for substance abuse challenges and new methodologies for musculoskeletal care. Clients are ever seeking to make their benefits simpler for employees. Quantum makes sure the patient has a comprehensive solution. [21:42] Quantum Health is the leader in this space. Only a few carriers serve the market, but the market is huge. The clients Quantum Health carries cover over 60% of the people who receive healthcare benefits through employer-sponsored plans. [22:07] The industry is expected to grow dramatically over the next five years. It’s being noticed as a way to create a much better experience and really support people. Not only does it help people through their journeys but it produces a powerful economic result for the client and for the individuals. [22:36] Just an entrepreneur solving a problem. Kara Trott. You've done the tests... Myers-Brigg, DISC and many others. You know your personality type, you know your IQ and you've even started using them in your hiring process or team development. It's wonderful to have detailed information about yourself, your team or a position you'd love to fill, BUT do you know the one piece of information that could be the missing link to successfully applying the data you've harvested? How someone takes action is a primary determinant in achieving desired outcomes. Even the most intelligent, driven team member could be restricted if their tasks don't match well with how they naturally get $%&T done. Just think of all the times you've tried to launch or complete a project and found it painfully difficult or worse, impossible to gain traction. Maybe it wasn't you? Or at least not you in anyway you could modify or change. The Kolbe A Index is a powerful test that streamlines the process of identifying how people take action. On today's episode of Life By Design For Chiropractors, we interview David Kolbe, CEO of Kolbe Corp. to discuss the benefits of the Kolbe Index for the practicing Chiropractor and their business. What We Covered: The part of the mind measured by the Kolbe A Index. The 4 action taking areas the testing will give you important information about. The best way to utilize the Kolbe Index for chiropractors and their businesses. The "secret" benefit of knowing your instinctive strengths.
