Today's Headlines: Mitch McConnell has been hospitalized for over a week with his office offering nothing beyond "he's still working closely with staff." Meanwhile, JD Vance called the Iran talks a "classic Trump deal" while the administration temporarily lifted oil sanctions letting Iran sell oil in US dollars for the first time since 2018 — when Trump blew up the original deal — with Iran saying they made "no new commitments," the Strait of Hormuz status depends entirely on who you ask, and Vance gets visibly snubbed by Iran's foreign minister during a photo op. Trump responded to New York Times war coverage by threatening to add their reporting to his $15 billion defamation lawsuit and calling them treasonous, which is bold from someone whose last Times lawsuit was thrown out within days. The administration is threatening to withhold a billion dollars in homeland security funding from states unless they overhaul their election laws — paper ballots, federal audits, administration-preferred voter databases, all at state expense — which is unconstitutional and headed straight for court, while a George W. Bush-appointed judge blocked DOJ subpoenas targeting Tim Walz and other Minnesota officials, finding "overwhelming" evidence they were issued purely to harass political opponents. Jeanine Pirro is threatening to prosecute anyone caught "vandalizing" the reflecting pool, at least five people have been federally cited for being near it, and Trump claimed someone made a 350-foot gash in a pool he simultaneously described as uncuttable. UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer resigned — the country's seventh prime minister in ten years, right on Brexit's tenth anniversary — with Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham as frontrunner to replace him, while researchers found Elon Musk played an "instrumental" role in inciting Belfast's anti-immigrant riots by generating over half of 115 million views driving the unrest, prompting England and Wales's attorney general to ban his office from using X. Finally, Tucker Carlson announced he's done with the Republican Party and won't support them in the midterms.  Resources/Articles mentioned: WAVE: Kentucky Sen. The weekend headlines lied again. The “peace deal” or “memorandum of understanding” with Iran was always goyslop. Strait of Hormuz “wide open”? Fake. JD Vance and the Trump administration “breaking from Israel”? Even bigger fake. By the end of the weekend the Strait was closed again and the Iranians stormed out of talks in Switzerland after Trump threatened to assassinate their diplomats. The AI surveillance state isn't coming — it's already here, and they're using your tax dollars to build it at hyper speed. Trump came back into office and immediately unleashed Big Tech instead of reining it in. Hope Beryl-Green joins Stew Peters 6/23 to share her story of survival, healing, and advocacy for victims who have suffered in silence.

Written by a former Google engineer using the pen name Terao Tetsuya, Spent Bullets contains nine interconnected stories about a group of Taiwanese men as they journey through Taiwan's most prestigious schools to Silicon Valley's hottest tech companies. Despite being the “elite”, these characters find themselves mired in a swamp of nihilism, resorting to suicide attempts and sadomasochism as outlets for their constantly oppressed psyches. The novel represents a darkly humorous take on Taiwan's omnipresent achievement culture, as well as another critically celebrated example of the island's burgeoning body of queer literature. Other works that Kevin mentions in the podcast: Kink: Stories — by R.O. Kwan and Garth Greenwell Overfitting — by Terao Tetsuya, still pending translation Mobu's Diary —by Kathy Lam, translated by Kevin Wang and Cindy Ko Kevin's recent interview by Michelle Kuo and Albert Wu, in which he discusses communities in Taipei in greater detail Anthony Kao is a writer who intersects international affairs and cultural criticism. You stopped your GLP-1 and now you're wondering can I just restart where I left off? Why am I so hungry again? Why are the side effects back? Did the medication stop working? These are questions I hear all the time in my practice. And the answer is not as simple as picking back up where you stopped. In this episode I am walking you through exactly what happens biologically when you stop a GLP-1, why restarting feels different than when you first started, how to restart safely, the common mistakes I see patients make, and how to get back on track mentally without shame. A pause does not erase your progress. But how you restart matters more than you think. Listen now! Episode Highlights: Why stopping your medication is not failure and why your biology is not your weakness What actually happens to your hunger, cravings, and fullness signals when you go off GLP-1s Why restarting at your old dose can land you in the emergency room How long is too long to be off and what dose to restart at based on your break The 3 most common restart mistakes  Practical tips to minimize side effects and rebuild tolerance the right way How to stay mentally on track without shame or comparison to your first journey Connect with Dr. Alicia Shelly: Website | drshellymd.com Facebook | www.facebook.com/drshellymd Instagram | @drshellymd Linked In | www.linkedin.com/in/drshellymd Twitter | @drshellymd About Dr. Alicia Shelly Dr. Alicia Shelly was raised in Atlanta, GA. Send us Fan MailA former Republican, Vietnam veteran, and longtime US diplomat joins us for a blunt look at what breaks first when a presidency runs on loyalty instead of limits. We talk about the “guardrails” that used to stop bad ideas in their tracks and what it means when those guardrails disappear: fewer people willing to say no, more governing by unilateral moves, and more public retaliation aimed at critics. Along the way, we challenge ourselves to listen outside our algorithm and ask what we might be missing. We dig into immigration reform with more nuance than the usual cable news fight. Border security and compassion are not opposites, and we walk through what controlled legal immigration can look like, how ICE should support local policing rather than dominate it, and why focusing on serious criminals is both more effective and more legitimate. We also explore why political slogans and identity driven messaging can boomerang, and why an economic story about opportunity, work, and mobility still moves persuadable voters. Then we widen the lens to executive power and national identity: the controversy around private money funding major public projects, the lawsuit opposing a massive Arlington Cemetery arch that veterans call a vanity build, and how intimidation through litigation can wear people down. On foreign policy, we weigh Venezuela and Iran through the hard questions leaders should ask before military action, and we lay out why Ukraine is a clear moral test with real consequences for Europe and the broader world order. If you care about democracy, civil discourse, and US leadership at home and abroad, this conversation is for you. In this New Books Network episode, we chat with Du about her latest book, Everyday Occupation: American Soldiers and Chinese Civilians in the Aftermath of World War II (Cambridge University Press, 2025). While many Anglophone histories about the “loss of China” focus on high-level diplomacy and grand strategy, Everyday Occupation zooms in the street-level micropolitics of a brief period between 1945–1949 when American troops were stationed in post-WWII China. The book explores the daily friction between American soldiers and Chinese civilians—from traffic accidents involving jeeps to the sensory shocks from urban odors—and their impact on Chinese sentiments towards the US. Du reveals how these everyday encounters helped pave the way for the communist takeover of China, and continue to cast a shadow over modern US-China relations. While U.S. attention has been consumed by wars in the Middle East and Europe, North Korea's Kim Jong Un is expanding his nuclear arsenal, testing missiles from land and sea, and locking in a new strategic partnership with Russia. In this episode, hosts Ray Powell and Jim Carouso sit down with Ankit Panda - Stanton Senior Fellow at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, co‑host of the Asia Geopolitics podcast at The Diplomat, and one of the world's leading experts on North Korea's nuclear and missile forces - to unpack what's really going on in Pyongyang and why it matters far beyond the Korean Peninsula.Ankit explains why North Korea is now America's “third nuclear adversary,” with intercontinental ballistic missiles that can reach the U.S. homeland and the lowest threshold for nuclear use of any nuclear‑armed state on Earth. He traces how Kim's testing program shifted from cautious development to high‑tempo nuclear war exercises, including tactical nuclear weapons aimed squarely at U.S. and South Korean forces in the region. The conversation digs into the deepening Russia-North Korea military partnership, the implications of the new Choe Hyon‑class destroyer and submarine programs, and the stability‑instability paradox that could make conventional clashes more likely as Pyongyang's deterrent matures. Ankit also lays out his argument for a U.S. policy shift from denuclearization to “stable coexistence,” explains why Washington already treats Kim as a nuclear peer in practice, and warns of the growing risk that South Korea could break from the Non‑Proliferation Treaty and pursue its own bomb.If you care about U.S. extended deterrence, the future of the Indo‑Pacific security order, North Korea-Russia cooperation, the South Korea nuclear debate, or the rising risk of nuclear crisis in Northeast Asia, this is a conversation you need to hear!

President Trump is in China with a delegation drawing scrutiny across Washington: family members, billionaire tech allies and business figures appear front and center, while longtime China experts and senior State Department voices are far less visible. Is Trump on the verge of a corrupt deal for himself and his family that won't serve U.S. or historic interests? Is he prioritizing dealmaking and optics over diplomacy and strategy? Where are experienced American diplomatic voices at this pivotal moment? Mo Kelly is in for Mark Thompson and will discuss this and more. We welcome former federal prosecutor and now defense attorney David Katz to talk about the impending Trump deal with the IRS, redistricting battles headed to court and criticism of the Supreme Court. Most people call this people-pleasing, being too nice, or social anxiety. Those labels aren't wrong. They just don't explain why it keeps happening for decades, even after reading the books and trying the techniques. This episode covers: What triggers each of the four patterns Why this isn't a confidence problem The equation running underneath all four (disapproval equals danger) and what it means for actual change How each pattern shows up in work, relationships, and daily life Discover your approval type. Following Clinton's victory, Pamela was appointed Ambassador to France, a role she took with immense seriousness despite her lack of formal education. She became a highly respected diplomat, earning praise for her work on the 50th anniversary of D-Day and her "invisible but decisive" role in the Bosnia peace negotiations. She used her personal experience of the Blitz to provide a moral compass for ending the Balkan bloodshed, effectively bridging the gap between Washington and Paris. However, her final years were marred by stress from lawsuits filed by Averell Harriman'schildren over his fortune, which threatened her with bankruptcy. Under this pressure, she suffered a fatal brain hemorrhage while swimming at the Ritz in Paris. At her funeral, President Bill Clinton delivered a moving tribute, stating he would not have reached the presidency without her and praising her significant contributions to her adopted country.
