In this installment, I break into my third binder of homemade DVDs. I gain some insight into the theme song for "Full Frontal with Samantha Bee." And for my Friday Night Feature, I chat about the 2001 time travel exploration "Donnie Darko." In my classic collection, I catalog a pretty broad range of movies including "L.A. Confidential," "Shaun of the Dead," "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy," "Monster," "Magic," "11:14," "Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer," "Breach," "The March of the Penguins" and "Female Trouble," and highlight cameo appearances by assorted guest stars in such shows as "Boston Legal," "Medium," "Monk," "Psych," "Nip/Tuck" and "Ugly Betty." And I'm pleasantly surprised to encounter a dear friend of mine making a cameo appearance in a segment on "The Colbert Report." In my current collection, I cataloged the B-movie thrill-ride "Sucker Punch," along with such movies as "Sherlock Holmes: Game of Shadows," "Peep World" and "Big Fish," and episodes from "Fargo," "Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency," "Claws," "Doctor Who," "Fawlty Towers," "Preacher," "Will" and "The Gong Show." Oh, and Cyndi Lauper's 2016 performance on "Austin City Limits." Finally, in What I've Been Watching, I recounted the list that flew by on a recent "Full Frontal with Samantha Bee" of everything they tried to apologize for President Trump doing between Jan. 10 and Jan. 24. Also, some thoughts on the premieres of "Waco" and "The Alienist."
Today's Guest: Guillermo Diaz, actor, "Weeds," "Mercy," "Scandal" Actor Guillermo Diaz, star of "Weeds," "Mercy" and "Scandal" I’m gonna be honest with you—I’m far more interested in talking with Guillermo Diaz about his last role—as, curiously, “Guillermo”—in “Weeds,” in which he played Mary Louise Parker’s drug dealer, teacher, friend, antagonist, protector—hey, it was complicated. That Guillermo was one scary mofo. This Guillermo is starring as Nurse Angel Lopez on the new NBC drama “Mercy,” which airs Wednesdays at 8 p.m. It’s funny and awkward at times—just like “Weeds,” in some ways—but I think this show demonstrates how much range Diaz actually has. From the Season 3 premiere of "Scandal," it's actor Guillermo Diaz. (ABC/Eric McCandless) GUILLERMO DIAZ podcast excerpt: "I would hope that Guillermo would really like Angel and have a little bit of a snicker with him... I'm coming back to 'Weeds.' It's gonna work out; it's going to be interesting to see what they do with me." He came to national attention after starring as Scarface in the cult film Half Baked, opposite Dave Chappelle and Jim Breuer. He joined Academy Award winners Tom Hanks and Catherine Zeta-Jones in The Terminal for renowned director/producer Steven Spielberg. His varied resume also includes feature roles in indie hits such as Party Girl opposite Parker Posey, Stonewall, I'm Not Rappaport with Walter Matthau, 200 Cigarettes with Christina Ricci, High School High and Chelsea Walls, directed by Ethan Hawke. In addition to his feature film credits, Diaz is known for his three seasons on the award-winning Showtime series “Weeds” where he plays Guillermo, Mary Louise Parker's drug dealer. He has also been seen in “ER,” “Law & Order” “Chappelle’s Show,” “The Shield,” “Without a Trace” and “The Closer.” Diaz most recently wrapped the indie feature Peep World with Rainn Wilson and Sarah Silverman and the USA series “Royal Pains.” He will next be seen opposite Bruce Willis and Tracy Morgan in Kevin Smith’s feature A Couple of Dicks. On this episode of Comical Radio Classic Danny Lobell and Chris Iacono are joined by a plethora of guests. The first guest to grace the crew with their presence is Alonzo Bodden. The crew talks about the Peep World downstairs. Alonzo discusses what’s happening to America, covering everything from politics to banks. Danny expresses his hate for Chase bank and the tomfoolery they have put him through. The second guest of the day is Damien Lemon. Danny thinks that America as a whole should have invented their own language when we separated ourselves from Britain instead of mispronouncing words on purpose as an act of rebellion. Damien enjoys taking a step back from technology and the internet every once in awhile to gain perspective and reevaluate his life. Danny gives Chris encouragement about all of the success he’s had in his career thus far. Ken Marino calls in and he and the guys talk about how great it would be to play a video game that is their life. Thomas Dale, a good friend of both Danny and Chris, joins them as the fourth guest of the day. Thomas believes strongly in astrology and enlightens the crew with some of his knowledge, however everything reverts back to him being gay. Thomas and Chris feel a special kinship towards each other because they’re both Italian. Last but not least, Janine Brito joins the crew. She has officially popped her New York cherry but she hasn’t found an apartment yet. Janine explains being a lesbian and growing up in a very religious home. This leads the conversation towards stress tests and scientology. Chris and Danny are searching for a new tag line to end the show with, stay tuned to see what they will come up with!
It’s a Get Your Film Fix first as we have an official Double Feature on hand this week. We discuss the new film in theaters, Cedar Rapids, as well as get a jump on Peep World, available On-Demand before being released in theaters. The Oscars were last night, but rather than discuss that old news, we chose to instead look towards the future and who we expect to hear having their named called at next year’s 84th Annual Academy Awards. And not to give anything away, but we’re wrapping things up with our Top 5 Comedies that didn’t make us laugh.
