This week we're talking about the previous era of Chris Evans as a Marvel superhero. We're going back to 2007's Fantastic Four: Rise Of The Silver Surfer. We talk about the classic combination of Doug Jones and a voice actor, a Galactus you can't see, insisting Sue be blonde, and is this movie surprisingly good?
It's time for a Be Kind Rewind on Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer—the 2007 sequel that gave us Chris Evans' scene-stealing Human Torch, Andre Braugher delivering one of the best lines ever (“I'm the quarterback!”), and… a Galactus that looks like a weather cloud. Dave and Cody dig into what holds up, what absolutely doesn't (looking at you, Jessica Alba's blue contacts), and the surprisingly decent CGI that made Silver Surfer a standout. Also: The fellas hit the latest pop culture news including the...um...Coldplay's concert incident and South Park's $1.5 billion streaming deal. And stay tuned at the end as we answer listener questions in The Lobby!https://linktr.ee/PopCulturePastorPod
Our Fantastic 4 series continues with the second and final Tim Story installment, 2007's Rise Of The Silver Surfer! We don't quite agree on this movie, but we had a fun time overall revisiting it. Next time, we'll both be watching 2015's Fant4stic for the first time and can't wait to see how that goes. We hope you enjoy First Steps this weekend, and we hope to see you again soon!Find Us Here:Nick: https://linktr.ee/Reeves_117Manny: https://linktr.ee/Emmanuel_Fuentes
The new movie, The Fantastic Four: First Steps, has been leaning hard into the sense of nostalgia. Umamusume: Pretty Derby Pokémon Z-A. Over All in the Game All in the Game is de podcast over games voor iedereen. Het komt allemaal aan bod in All in the Game. Galactus makes his big-screen debut this week in Fantastic Four: First Steps*, which means it's the perfect opportunity to discuss his second-ever comics appearances in The Mighty Thor – specifically, issues #160-162 and 168-169, by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, published by Marvel Comics! (For his comics debut, we humbly direct you to our very first episode from 2016!) First, it's the war to settle the score, the brawl to end it all, as the Devourer of Worlds squares off against none other than Ego the Living Planet! And the Son of Odin and the Rigellian robot known as the Recorder are caught in the middle! It's classic 60s Lee/Kirby space opera at its most grandiose! Then, we get a … somewhat disjointed look at Galactus' origin, including a rap session between Big G and the God of Thunder! PLUS: We discuss James Gunn's Superman! Does Thor stand a chance against this most colossal of foes? Will Odin act in a frustrating manner? (Spoiler: Yes!) And “Shall a God Prevail” against that sentient bioverse known as … The Comics Canon? (*No, we're not counting the purple space cloud in Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer. Would YOU?) In This Episode: · Actual sound footage of the Recorder! · You should never have to see Galactus' knees · Hush now! Odin's stories are on … · How DO you pronounce Ra's al Ghul? · Thor God of Thunder Vol. 4: The Last Days of Midgard · Fantastic Four #171-175: Galactus vs. the High Evolutionary Join us in two weeks as we kick off a miniseries on everyone's favorite Marvel mutants with a look at 1969's Uncanny X-Men #57-61 by Roy Thomas and Neal Adams! Andrew Gordon & John Humphrey dive into Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer (2007), the action-packed sequel to Marvel's original Fantastic Four movie, directed by Tim Story. The film reunites the super-powered team as they face their most cosmic threat yet. Ioan Gruffudd (Horatio Hornblower, San Andreas) returns as Reed Richards / Mr. Fantastic, Jessica Alba (Sin City, Into the Blue) as Sue Storm / Invisible Woman, Chris Evans (Captain America: The First Avenger, Knives Out) as Johnny Storm / Human Torch, and Michael Chiklis (The Shield, Coyote) as Ben Grimm / The Thing. As Reed and Sue prepare for their wedding, Earth's atmosphere is disrupted by the arrival of the mysterious Silver Surfer (voiced by Laurence Fishburne of The Matrix, John Wick), with Doug Jones (Pan's Labyrinth, Hellboy) providing the physical performance. The cosmic rider heralds the approach of Galactus, a planet-devouring force that threatens Earth's survival. Julian McMahon (Nip/Tuck, Charmed) also returns as Victor Von Doom / Doctor Doom, who plots to harness the Surfer's power for himself. Key moments include the Human Torch chasing the Silver Surfer across the city skyline, the wedding crash sequence, and the final showdown to save the planet from annihilation. Packed with early Marvel spectacle and comic book nostalgia, Rise of the Silver Surfer explores themes of teamwork, sacrifice, and cosmic consequence in the superhero genre. "I'M GONNA NEED THERAPY." Kevin Feige's full attempt at making the first good movie about Marvel's First Family releases in one week, so it's time to look back at prior attempts. The 00's were not kind to most comic book characters when it came to movies, and the F4 were no exception. While many remain nostalgic for these films, even going as far as saying nothing can top their cast, they boast a whole lot of issues that were the style at the time, and it's time to dig into each and every one. So, come join Brian, Alec, and Trey (@HeyGuysItSpidey) as they take a look at the goofy, derivative, and bizarrely misogynistic (to the point of Jessica Alba nearly quitting acting) FANTASTIC FOUR and FANTASTIC FOUR: RISE OF THE SILVER SURFER!

Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer is a visually engaging but ultimately underwhelming sequel that struggles to elevate its superhero storytelling. As the 16th entry in our “Marvel before the MCU” series, the film introduces the enigmatic Silver Surfer and features impressive CGI, but is bogged down by a weak script, underdeveloped characters, and a lackluster portrayal of Galactus. ----more---- Thank you so much for listening!
