In this episode of the Root Cause Medicine Podcast, Dr. Kate Kresge sits down with functional immunology expert and educator Dr. Samuel Yanuck to explore one of the most overlooked systems in chronic illness: the immune system. With clarity and compassion, Dr. Yanuck breaks down how immune dysregulation can contribute to complex conditions like depression, neuropathy, migraines, chronic fatigue, and even cardiovascular disease. From brain inflammation and mast cell activation to Epstein-Barr virus and mold, Dr. Yanuck offers a new way of thinking about biology—where inflammation isn't just a symptom, but a system that can be measured, understood, and treated. You'll here them discuss: - Why immunology could be at the root of nearly every chronic illness - The immune pathways that connect depression, anxiety, brain fog, and fatigue - What PANS, PANDAS, and autoimmune encephalitis really are—and why they're often misdiagnosed - How gut, brain, and immune health form a feedback loop - The labs you should run if you suspect chronic immune dysfunction - A framework for evaluating chronic viral infections like EBV and CMV - Natural immune modulators: Chinese skullcap, astragalus, quercetin, sulforaphane, and more - Why personalized immune workups—not protocols—create results Guest Bio: Dr. Samuel Yanuck is a functional medicine clinician and expert educator in functional immunology. He is the creator of Cogence Immunology, a comprehensive online training program that has educated over 9,000 clinicians in over 60 countries. His approach blends immunology, clinical experience, and systems thinking to help providers and patients uncover the true drivers of chronic illness. What happens when you combine the merchant benefits of pay-by-bank transactions with the consumer rewards typically reserved for credit cards? Matt Brennan, CEO of Spire, reveals how their groundbreaking approach is transforming everyday payments across America.Brennan walks us through Spire's innovative branded payment solution that powers merchant-specific programs like Shell's "S-Pay." By partnering with Discover Network, Spire issues 16-digit PANs linked to consumers' bank accounts - creating a hybrid payment that works on existing terminals while settling via ACH. This elegant solution eliminates the traditional hurdles that have limited pay-by-bank adoption at physical points of sale. The beauty of Spire's approach lies in its true win-win nature: merchants dramatically reduce processing costs while offering substantial rewards (like 15-20¢ off per gallon or 5% store discounts), and consumers enjoy immediate benefits without accumulating credit card debt. This value proposition has fueled remarkable growth, with Spire now accepted at 55,000 locations representing 65% of branded fuel retailers nationwide. With 750,000 bank accounts linked and transaction volumes growing 200% in just seven months, Spire is clearly tapping into unmet consumer needs. Brennan identifies two key adopter groups: tech-savvy younger consumers comfortable with alternative payment methods, and financially-conscious "savvy savers" seeking rewards without additional debt. As consumer debt concerns continue to rise and open banking makes account linking increasingly mainstream, Spire is positioned at the intersection of major financial trends.
In this episode of the Autism Little Learners Podcast, I sit down with Alex Lamoreaux—a mom of three, including two autistic boys—to talk about her personal and powerful journey with autism. From receiving a late diagnosis herself to navigating complex medical advice, Alex shares how she shifted from fear to confidence in parenting. We dive into what it really means to trust your gut as a parent and honor the unique needs of each child. This heartfelt conversation explores the emotional ups and downs of advocating for autistic kids and highlights the power of intuition, self-advocacy, and community. You won't want to miss Alex's inspiring and relatable story. Bio Alex Lamoreaux is a late-diagnosed neurodivergent mom of three young boys and a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with a background in addiction recovery and trauma treatment. After two of her sons were diagnosed with autism, she dove into learning—and unlearning—what it really means to support autistic children. Now in the thick of parenting and advocacy, Alex shares practical, real-life insights with honesty and heart, hoping to spark connection and offer support to fellow parents on similar journeys. Alex's TikTok Account https://www.tiktok.com/@alex.lamx?_t=ZT-8xBXQBH46la&_r=1 Takeaways Late diagnosis can provide clarity and reduce shame over past differences. Parents often feel overwhelmed by the amount of information available. Shifting from panic to empowerment is crucial in parenting. Each autistic child is unique and requires different interventions. There is no one-size-fits-all approach to autism. Trusting parental instincts is essential for effective parenting. You do not have to fill your child's day with therapy. Trust your gut feelings about your child's needs. Parents often know their children best, despite professional opinions. Medical professionals may not always have the latest information on autism. Advocating for your child can be challenging, but it is essential. Bringing a list to meetings can help parents stay focused. Cognitive dissonance is common when navigating medical advice. Parents should feel empowered to change providers if necessary. Finding clarity amidst overwhelming information is crucial for parents. Drawing from his extensive clinical experience treating hundreds of PANDAS cases, Dr. Ebel reveals why traditional biomedical and functional medicine approaches, while important, often fall short when not properly sequenced with nervous system care. This episode challenges the conventional understanding that PANDAS begins in the gut, instead presenting compelling evidence that nervous system dysfunction is the root cause that then triggers the cascade of gut dysbiosis, immune dysfunction, and neuroinflammation. While intermittent fasting may have beneficial effects on various autoimmune diseases, fasting is not right for everyone. Intermittent fasting can be detrimental for people with autoimmune issues because it can potentially exacerbate their condition by putting additional stress on the immune system, which is already dysregulated in autoimmune diseases, potentially leading to increased inflammation and flare-ups due to the body's tendency to attack its own tissues during fasting periods. Why intermittent fasting may not be right for someone with autism: Immune system disruption: Fasting can cause fluctuations in immune cell activity, potentially leading to an overactive immune response in individuals with autoimmune diseases where the body is already attacking its own tissues. PANS is an autoimmune attack on the brain and it is very common in children with autism. You will see a sudden onset of OCD, clinginess, and fearfulness. Increased inflammation: While some research suggests intermittent fasting might reduce inflammation in healthy individuals, in autoimmune conditions, it could trigger increased inflammatory markers due to the body's altered immune response. Stress on the body: The stress of fasting can further exacerbate autoimmune symptoms. If your immune system is fragile and you're constantly having flare-ups, you might want to avoid fasting until your body is stronger. What to do instead: Focus on a balanced, healthy diet with controlled portion sizes, regular exercise, and mindful eating habits to achieve similar health benefits, prioritizing nutrient-dense foods and limiting processed options; essentially, managing your overall calorie intake without strict fasting windows. Ketogenic Diets are popular for this reason. A ketogenic diet primarily consists of high-fats, moderate-proteins, and very-low-carbohydrates. The dietary macronutrients are divided into approximately 55% to 60% fat, 30% to 35% protein and 5% to 10%carbohydrates. In our episode Healthy Carbs, Candida Control, and What You Can Do To Soothe Autism Symptoms [Podcast Episode #210] we discussed how low-carb diets can be potentially sleep disruptive and anxiety provoking if candida overgrowth is still strong and candida is eating up all of the glucose our brain needs. This is very common in sleep disorders. I discuss this in detail in my podcast episode # 133, How To Improve Sleep Tied To Candida Induced Hypoglycemia. ... Diddy Trial Day 6 Recap - Frying Pans & Fear Inside Diddy's Sex-Fueled Kingdom As Ex-Assistant & Friend Break Silence In today's explosive coverage of the federal trial against Sean “Diddy” Combs, two witnesses—Kerry Morgan, the former best friend of Cassie Ventura, and David James, Combs's ex-personal assistant—gave damning testimony that paints a chilling picture of coercion, control, and systemic abuse. These are not random outsiders or distant observers. These are two people who lived inside Diddy's world and are now telling a court what they allegedly saw. Morgan testified that Cassie was emotionally, financially, and physically entrapped in a toxic relationship where leaving wasn't a real option. She described moments of horror: Cassie being dragged by her hair in Jamaica, pounded on with a hammer at her door in Los Angeles, and the brutal 2018 incident where Combs allegedly assaulted Morgan herself, leaving her concussed and vomiting. Perhaps most disturbing, Morgan says she was offered $30,000 to sign an NDA and walk away in silence. David James, meanwhile, worked inside what he called “Mr. Combs's kingdom.” As a personal assistant, he recounted Cassie telling him directly, “I can't get out. He controls everything.” That line captures what prosecutors are trying to prove: this was more than just a dysfunctional relationship. It was, according to multiple witnesses, a controlled system of dependency, fear, and entrapment. This episode dives into both testimonies in full detail, breaking down the psychology of control, the role of enablers, and the devastating cost of silence. It also addresses Judge Subramanian's critical ruling excluding hearsay, and what that means for what the jury is allowed to hear. If you're following the case for real insight—not just headlines—this is the breakdown you need. #diddytrial #cassieventura #truecrime #witnessstand #federaltrial #kerrymorgan #davidjames #seancombs #abuseofpower #freakoffs Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? Luke 10:38-42Now it happened as they went that He entered a certain village; and a certain woman named Martha welcomed Him into her house. And she had a sister called Mary, who also sat at Jesus' feet and heard His word. But Martha was distracted with much serving, and she approached Him and said, “Lord, do You not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Therefore tell her to help me.”And Jesus answered and said to her, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and troubled about many things. But one thing is needed, and Mary has chosen that good part, which will not be taken away from her.”I can't help but think Jesus was smiling when He spoke this to Martha. He knew her, and she knew Him. In this episode, we will look at God's guidance and correction in our lives. What a blessing that Martha had the chance to adjust her heart before Jesus left her home. After all, if Martha hadn't welcomed Jesus into her home, Mary couldn't have sat at His Feet. I will end this episode with the song, "Jesus We Love You," written by Paul McClure. If you would like to support this podcast with a monthly or one-time donation, thank you!https://www.sherriyoungward.com/supportTo find out about upcoming gatherings and new projects, please join my email list at www.sherriyoungward.com
