Andrew & Tara CONTINUE Their Road to James Gunn's Superman giving their Superman Returns Reaction, Recap, Commentary, Analysis, & Spoiler Review!! Join Andrew Gordon & Tara Erickson as they soar back to the Man of Steel's world in Bryan Singer's Superman Returns (2006). After a five-year absence, Clark Kent / Superman (Brandon Routh, Dodgeball, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World) returns to Earth only to discover that his love, Lois Lane (Kate Bosworth, Blue Crush, 3000 Miles to Graceland), has moved on—and even has a young son, Jason. As Clark grapples with heartbreak, he uncovers a nefarious plot by Lex Luthor (Kevin Spacey, American Beauty, The Usual Suspects) to use stolen Kryptonian technology to reforge the world in his image. Rounding out the stellar cast are James Marsden (Cyclops in X-Men, Enchanted) as Lois's fiancé Richard White, Parker Posey (the “Queen of Indies” in Party Girl, Best in Show) as tabloid editor Kitty Kowalski, Sam Huntington (Disturbia, I Am Number Four) as earnest photographer Jimmy Olsen, Frank Langella (Oscar-nominated for Frost/Nixon) as Perry White, and Kal Penn (Harold & Kumar, Designated Survivor) as Richard's brother, Stanford White. The spirit of Superman's father, Jor-El, is heard in archive audio of Marlon Brando (The Godfather, Apocalypse Now), tying this chapter back to the character's origins. Don't miss Tara & Andrew's breakdown of the film's most iconic moments—from the breathtaking sequence where Superman slows time to save Lois and Jason in that penthouse fall, to the jaw-dropping finale atop Lex's oceanic fortress, where Superman confronts a golden statue come to life. We'll discuss the soaring flight through Lois's apartment, the emotional “son of Krypton” reveal, and how Superman Returns balances nostalgia with new stakes for Earth's greatest hero. Grab your stools and head on down to the Dairy Queen as we reach for our hometown slice of fame with Christopher Guest's Waiting for Guffman. Is this the most realistic depiction of local theater dynamics ever committed to film? Can we please make Catherine O'Hara Queen of Improv already? How did Bob Balaban find a symphony-level orchestra for this small town production? And did Parker Posey's Libby Mae Brown “Just do the cones” so her Victoria Ratliff could “Piper, Noooooo”? The one thing we can all agree on is that this movie is flawless and Corky St Clair is a genius.

This week, Andrea and Jodie are watching Party Girl. It's got Parker Posey at her most iconic, inspirational '90s fashion, and a soundtrack that still holds up. We're talking about the New York City club kid scene, the film's matter-of-fact diversity, and why it feels so good to see libraries treated with the respect they deserve.Next week, we're watching Reality Bites. It's a little more straight and a lot more white, but as a blueprint for how mainstream media defined Gen X, it offers a perfectly messy portrait of the chain-smoking, disillusioned 90s early adulthood experience. If you're reading this, that means you've probably got your podcatcher of choice open right now. This week, we're heading underground with The Goonies, a film that defined childhood adventure for a generation. Andrea and Jodie revisit the 1985 classic to talk about why it still resonates, what it gets right about the danger and chaos of being a kid, and how its genre-hopping captures the wild, rule-breaking energy of childhood itself. We're also unpacking some of the more complicated stuff, sharing a few behind-the-scenes stories, and asking whether The Goonies still earns its place in the pantheon of beloved kids' classics.Next week, it's Party Girl. 178 - Josie & The Pussycats with Niall McGowan In this episode, we're strumming the power chords of early 2000s pop culture with the glittering, satirical cult classic Josie & The Pussycats! Joining us is none other than Niall McGowan, co-host of Bat Minute and a connoisseur of all things comic and cinematic. Together, we dive into the neon-drenched world of Josie, Melody, and Val as they rocket from small-town dreamers to unwitting pop pawns in a plot to brainwash teens. We explore the film's razor-sharp (and still shockingly relevant) commentary on consumerism, the music industry, and branding overload, all while appreciating the infectious soundtrack that still slaps today. Niall brings his signature wit and deep pop culture knowledge to unpack the film's surprising comic roots, its place in early-2000s cinema, and why Josie & The Pussycats deserves way more love than it got on its original release. So slap on your cat ears, crank up the volume, and join us as we celebrate one of the most delightfully subversive "bubblegum" movies ever made! "Du Jour means seat belts. Du Jour means crash positions!" We get to an early 00s cult classic in kitten ears, "Josie and the Pussycats", this week with our friend Jessica Granger. Critics didn't really know what to do with this razor-sharp satire of the music industry and consumerism when it came out back in 2001, but we're here to say this movie still holds up. We discuss all three of our Pussycats: Rachael Leigh Cook, Tara Reid, and Rosario Dawson, early aughts MTV and the stranglehold TRL had on the youth. This week, Tommy is joined by the brilliant Jason Isaacs, who is on everyone’s minds after the season finale of White Lotus dropped earlier this week. Jason plays Tim Ratliff, the southern patriarch (of what many would describe as a dysfunctional family), whose life begins to quickly unravel while on vacation in Thailand. His character Tim finds out that he is being investigated by the FBI after some of his questionable business dealings gets uncovered. He hides the truth from his family, but the secret eats him alive and sets him on a path of self destruction and depression. In a sea of stand out performances, Jason is certainly at the top. He created a character that is able to say so much without saying anything at all. Today, Jason opens up about that epic season finale, what it feels like leaving The White Lotus and adjusting back to the real world, how he stepped into the extreme darkness required to play his character, why seeing himself in some of those moments even surprises him when watching them back, what he thinks about a Ratliff spin-off series, how he thinks his character’s family would have reacted to hearing that everything they own is now gone, how he went about discovering his accent for the show, what really happened between Victoria and Kate at that breakfast scene, who he would want on an all-star season of The White Lotus, what project of his he gets stopped for the most, what the real pronunciation of Lucius Malfoy is, his thoughts on the new Harry Potter series, why he never gets stopped for playing that iconic role, why he doesn’t love to answer very personal questions, and so much more. Every character carries flaws; there are no clear heroes in this narrative, echoing Mike White's signature style. Guy Talk's fall from moral grace and Chelsea's unwavering hope reflect the show's exploration of personal choices and consequences. Visual cues like watches and "see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil" enrich character development. Parker Posey delivers a scene-stealing performance, potentially setting her up as a lead in Season 4. Mike White continues to reward Survivor fans with cameos from his alliance members. The BG's are out in the streets this week. Between her ‘Watch What Happens Live' Show Debut and her live show at Joe's pub tonight, Anna has a lot of appearances to recap. She details her WWHL experience and the two wigs she brought to life behind the bar. Dre is in her resume builder era and started dance lessons at the well known Dance With Me studio. Speaking of lessons, Anna fondly recalls her saxophone days and Dre only remembers one song on the piano. To pay proper respects, Anna hit up the infamous Times Square ‘Forever 21' that's closing down and quickly discovered she and many other people shared a lot of 2am tipsy memories at that location. Ahhh yesss the Memz. Then they get into their TV shows and Morgan Wallen's awkward SNL stage walk-off. I guess he was just trying to “Get To Gods Country.” Plus, they talk the new season of “Farmer Wants A Wife,” which is…exactly what it sounds like. Justice has been served as it was announced that convicted murderer, Yolanda, was denied bail. Damn straight. All that and Benny Bianco's viral toe nail art. Gross? Maybe…but the nail art is impressive so we needed to debrief. If you love White Lotus, make sure to listen to last week's Celeb Catch-Up with Parker Posey and Jennifer Coolidge.
