This cult classic, written and directed by Eli Craig, took me by surprise. I remember seeing the trailer and thinking, "okay, all of the best parts surely had to be in the trailer." Then I saw the film and saw that it was more than a simple spoof, offering some legitimate laughs and a solid understanding of horror tropes. The film stars both Alan Tudyk and Tyler Labine as the titular Tucker and Dale. You might remember Tudyk from his work as Wash in Firefly or the plethora of characters he has voiced for DC Comics including: Green Arrow, Superman, Clayface, and The Flash. He was also the only redeeming part of Rogue One, according to Jake, in his portrayal of sassy robot: K-2SO. Labine is no stranger to horror comedies, given that he has starred in Reaper, Deadbeat, and Dead Last. Both men went on to appear in Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency. The "College Kids" that litter the film are played by various actors I am too lazy to look up, even to add metadata to this stupid description for the sake of SEO content. They encapsulate all of the awful tropes about coeds that make you root for slashers to slay them indiscriminately. Through a series of misunderstandings, that are directly addressed within the film, the kids mistake the good-natured rednecks for mutant inbred deviant murderers. There is even a twist! Oh-- BUT EVEN MORE IMPORTANTLY THERE IS A CUTE DOG! The "Hidden Track" this week is Gyrojets with their song "Pieces. https://gyrojets.bandcamp.com/ If you ever have feedback or recommendations on future episodes, please let us know at slasherspod@gmail.com. Well, guys, we did it. We found out how to show up together and make a podcast. Like a normal group of non-idiots. Look at us, we’re maturing. Getting back into the swing, the guys kick it off with a brief explanation of what happened last week and then Kevin and Opie give their review of Terminator: Dark Fate. Spoiler Alert, they didn’t love it… On the upside, Alex took his lady love to see Ford vs Ferrari and gave that one a strong review. Sadly, Pete brings us crashing back to earth by admitting that he saw The Addams Family. If this was baseball, our average would be awesome…   The guys then jump right into their streaming picks for the week. Pete had Hulu and started off with a review of Stumptown. His glowing review was tempered slightly by Kevins review, which still didn’t make it an outright stinker, so we’ll call this one a win for Pete. He also watched Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency, but said he wouldn’t watch the second season so there’s that…   Alex flips it over to HBO and starts to watch the last season of Silicon Valley. Turns out he’s to that original as all the guys are on board with this one and we have another solid review.   Kevin had Prime this time around and blew through season 2 of Jack Ryan. If you enjoyed season one, as he did, you are likely to enjoy season 2. Did he say more than that about it? Yup. Wanna know what he said? Listen to the episode!   On Netflix, Opie found BoJack Horseman, a show all the guys have heard of and none have watched. The being said, the review is solid and everyone is now more interested than they were before this episode began!   After the break, the guys go all in on the new streaming services, Disney+ and Apple TV+. That’s very plus-y, isn’t it? As the guys talk about the services and what’s to come, the conversation ends up on Star Wars, as it so often does with nerds. The Mandalorian is the hot topic everywhere and the guys have nothing but great things to say about that one, also.   #allpopnoculture #hbo #hbogo #hbonow #netflix #netflixandchill  #amazonprime #hulu #popculture #movies #television #streaming #terminator #terminatordarkfate #fordvsferrari #mattdamon #christianbale #addamsfamily #stumptown #cobiesmulders #dirkgently #siliconvalley #jackryan #tomclancy #bojackhorseman #adultswim #disneyplus #themandalorian #appletvplus #themorningshow #stevecarrell #jenniferanniston

Hi! My name is Terry J. Aman and this installment marks my 34th episode of "VideoFuzzy," my twice-monthly progress report on cataloging more than 2,700 VHS transfers and digital recordings. In this installment, titled "Everything is Fine," I continue working through weirdnesses in my music collection, and my Friday Night Feature welcomes the first appearance of "Arrested Development" episodes in my catalog. In my classic VHS-to-DVD collection, I talked about Dana Delany and her curious collection of printed material regarding humanoid Cylons on "Battlestar Galactica." Heading into my current direct-to-DVD recordings, I caught a few movies including "Sausage Party" and "The Book of Life" on FX and "The Fifth Estate" on TNT, which I wasn't nearly so enthusiatic about as the film was for its subject, Julian Assange and the establishment of Wikileaks. "Preacher" closed out its third season, "Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency" was a hoot, and as of this past week I've nearly finished watching Season 13 of "Supernatural," just in time for the 14th season premiere, set for next month. Nerd shows this week included the Science Channel presentation of The Lost Gospels, which generally were not "lost" so much as they were rejected and suppressed as heretical, as well as discussions on the internal structure of the sun and nuclear fusion from several different sources, including "How the Universe Works" on the Science Channel, The "In Our Time: Science" podcast put together by BBC Radio 4, and "The Most Wanted Particle" by Jon Butterworth, physicist and ATLAS project lead at CERN. Finally, in what I've been watching, I plowed through the first season disc set for "The Good Place" over Labor Day weekend, and am very much looking forward to watching the second season disc set ahead of the third season, premiering later this month on NBC.

Hi! My name is Terry J. Aman and this installment marks my 33rd episode of "VideoFuzzy," my twice-monthly progress report on cataloging more than 2,700 VHS transfers and digital recordings. In this installment, titled "Reporting Alternative Facts," my Friday Night Feature looks at tabloid journalism aboard the "Battlestar Galactica" and traces one or two reference points to stuff going on today. In my classic VHS-to-DVD collection, I explored "South Park" creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone's take on the 2008 writers' strike in "Canada on Strike," pulling in some comments from "Commentary!" the musical backstory released as part of "Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog." I also talk about some stuff that's been going on with my music library, which has taken some attention away from this project in recent weeks, as well as some news that led me to strip any potentially copyrighted images out of my Facebook page. Heading into my current direct-to-DVD recordings, I talked about significantly stepped-up storylines in "Preacher" and "Better Call Saul" and the season finales of "Claws" and "Trial & Error." "The Sinner" got a bit dark, "We Bare Bears" closed out a lackluster season, I'm nearly down to the series finale on "Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency," I made some progress on my "Supernatural" season 13 backlog (I caught up to the "Scoobynatural" episode) and enjoyed the most wonderful cast parody spoof of "Ghostbusters" by Hillywood here. I watched a few NERD SHOWS science updates in "How the Universe Works" and "Space's Deepest Secrets," exploring the Juno mission to Jupiter, the Cassini mission to Saturn, the history of the solar system, monster stars, quasars, black holes and the Big Bang. I also encountered a quite remarkable artist recently, Tim Blais, who crafts frankly brilliant science-themed music parodies and original pieces you can discover for yourself here, which are also available on iTunes. And I had to ding "Late Show" host Stephen Colbert for throwing Omarosa's book "Unhinged" into the bargain bin -- the 30 percent off initial release is a marketing strategy, not any kind of reflection of sales, and he knows this. Upon its release, "Unhinged" topped the New York Times bestseller list. It's doing just fine. Finally, Spotify has added VideoFuzzy! But weirdly enough, right now it is only searchable under my name, so you can search for that under Terry J. Aman. Enjoy!

In this installment, titled "We Used to Be Friends," my Friday Night Feature highlights "Happy Go Lucky," the run-up to the second season finale of "Veronica Mars," with an affiliated photo set of Jason Dohring as Logan Echolls and others posted to my VideoFuzzy page on Facebook. In my classic VHS-to-DVD collection, I talk about the second season premiere of "Dead Like Me," episodes of "The 4400," "The Shield" and "Dirt," plus further fond remembrance of Robin Williams in "The Night Listener" from 2006. Heading into my current direct-to-DVD recordings, I explore some cataloging issues with "Battlestar Galactica" and "We Bare Bears." I rip on CBS Late Show host Stephen Colbert for his derisive dismissal of card readers hacked at fast food chains. Comments on "How the Universe Works," "Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency," "Supernatural" and "Trial & Error," and I noted some lulls in storylines in "The Sinner," "Claws," "Preacher," "Dietland" and -- file it under "How the hell did THAT happen?" -- a low-energy entry for the fourth season premiere of "Better Call Saul." Finally, Spotify has added VideoFuzzy! But weirdly enough, right now it is only searchable under my name, so you can search for that under Terry J. Aman. Enjoy!

In this installment, titled "Tearing into Claws," I talk about the second season of Niecy Nash's "Claws" on TNT. Also in my direct-to-DVD Current Collection, I discuss the first season finale of "Pose" on FX, the second season of "Trial & Error: Lady, Killer" on NBC and its associated podcast "M Towne: Where Murder Happens," and I take aim at the phenomenon of misdelivered lines. I messed up and recorded a couple episodes from the 13th season of the CW's "Supernatural" out of order, caught the second-season opener of "Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency" on BBC America, and watched a few third-season episodes of "Preacher." And I forgot to mention it last time, but I also saw the Mary Magdalene episode of "Forbidden History." In this installment, I break into my third binder of homemade DVDs. I gain some insight into the theme song for "Full Frontal with Samantha Bee." And for my Friday Night Feature, I chat about the 2001 time travel exploration "Donnie Darko." In my classic collection, I catalog a pretty broad range of movies including "L.A. Confidential," "Shaun of the Dead," "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy," "Monster," "Magic," "11:14," "Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer," "Breach," "The March of the Penguins" and "Female Trouble," and highlight cameo appearances by assorted guest stars in such shows as "Boston Legal," "Medium," "Monk," "Psych," "Nip/Tuck" and "Ugly Betty." And I'm pleasantly surprised to encounter a dear friend of mine making a cameo appearance in a segment on "The Colbert Report." In my current collection, I cataloged the B-movie thrill-ride "Sucker Punch," along with such movies as "Sherlock Holmes: Game of Shadows," "Peep World" and "Big Fish," and episodes from "Fargo," "Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency," "Claws," "Doctor Who," "Fawlty Towers," "Preacher," "Will" and "The Gong Show." Oh, and Cyndi Lauper's 2016 performance on "Austin City Limits." Finally, in What I've Been Watching, I recounted the list that flew by on a recent "Full Frontal with Samantha Bee" of everything they tried to apologize for President Trump doing between Jan. 10 and Jan. 24. My current collection turned up "Class," "Machete Kills" and another disc mishap. In what I've been watching, there's "American Crime Story: The Assassination of Gianni Versace" and “grown-ish." "The X Files," grudgingly, does seem to be worth a look, "The Magicians" and "Happy!" continue nicely, there's a spinoff planned from "Supernatural," and the premiere of "The Alienist" on TNT.

The B&E Podcast #091 "Reconnecting to Our Artistic Roots w/ Thalia Couture" Soundcloud Link: soundcloud.com/thebandepodcast SUMMARY OF THE PODCAST: With musician and artist Thalia Couture, we dive into the value of going back to the first things that inspired us to become artists. Sometimes where we end up isn't where we started or first imagined ourselves going, but it's all valuable experiences when you treat it thoughtfully. POINT #1: "WHAT BROUGHT YOU HERE IN THE FIRST PLACE" -We can often lose sight of why we begin our creative journeys and get lost in the daily race of progress only to realize we feel disconnected from what we're doing. Sometimes going back to what inspired it all gets us back on track and clarifies our direction. POINT #2: "CREATE IN OTHER WAYS" -Finding a creative outlet that is different from what you pursue as a career and only for yourself is essential to keeping the well full and inspiration moving. POINT #3: "PURGING OURSELVES" -Our present lives have a way of making their way into our work whether we're entirely conscious of it or not. One thing is for sure, don't be surprised to look back on an old work to discover a depth of theme and emotion that you didn't even realize you were creating at the time.
