"D" is for Dale, Thomas (ca. 1700-1750). Physician, author, entrepreneur. A native of England, Dale received his medical degree from Leiden. After an unsuccessful career as a physician in London, he immigrated to South Carolina in 1732. Dale arrived just as yellow fever began spreading in Charleston and his services were put to use immediately. A widower, he married well twice—improving his wealth and social status. He had a successful pharmaceutical and medical practice. He also operated a prosperous gin distillery. Throughout his life, Dale regarded himself as a participant in the transatlantic world of letters. He corresponded with and sent specimens to naturalists in England and Europe. Friends in England got his poetry and essays published in periodicals. Thomas Dale is best known today for his poems, his writings, and his witty letters.

It’s week whatever-the-hell of quarantine, and this time we’re getting a bit of an ensemble crew together. Not only do we have COMEDIAN/CLAIRVOYANT THOMAS DALE, but also Betty and some titillating ghost guests - emphasis on the tit. So... I guess, TITillating. Thomas returns not only for jokes and reminiscing, but also to give a psychic reading to Rick’s girlfriend, Betty, all the way in London! He predicts the future, sorts our her pillow situation, and manages to get Rick reprimanded by an old lady ghost. After the reading, Rick challenges Thomas’ views and maths. The two wrestle with the idea of spirituality and why Rick's dreaming of donuts... or wedding rings…or maybe bagels… probably donuts... Betty hopes its wedding rings…its most definitely donuts. Whether you’re a sceptic or a believer, you’ll come for the intrigue and stay for the ghost nudity. This week we were joined by one of our favorite New York transplants, comedian Thomas Dale! Before we got down to serious Soft Spot biz, we chatted about mental and physical health, Thomas's ‘Creep Cam' being the BEST thing on the internet, and we even touched on the esoteric! We gush over the hunks of the early aughts and why Thomas loves straight boys, which brought us to Thomas's Soft Spot- teen rom coms of the late 90's and early 2000s! Thomas, Craig, and surprise guests Michael and Joe discuss art, selling out, and tough comics to follow.
Menuhin Hart, born on December 19, 1983, started his life in the Bronx, NY where he was raised for the first eight years of his life. In 1992, he moved to Atlanta, GA where he discovered his aptitude and zeal for making people laugh. As his friends would call him the “class clown,” Menuhin filled even the classrooms with constant laughter with pranks and his comical wit. It didn’t take long for the school to recognize his talent and asked him to play Chris Rock for the school play, honoring the Black History Month. The crowd was filled with unexpected hilarity as Menuhin took over the show. But comedy wasn’t the only talent Menuhin came across. His creativity led him elsewhere: music production, audio engineering, DJing, computer IT, cosmetology, and pizza making! He thrived in all these careers until he hit a gaping creative void in 2009. He was confined in his career loss and his only way of pulling himself together was by turning his life experiences into jokes for people who came to laugh and relate with him. Although he performed at grungy local bars where the only impressions were ineradicable cigarette smells and a small crowd, hearing even the quietest chuckle was enough for him to pursue his career of comedy. He spent the next two years performing at Urban Grind, The Basement Theatre, and eventually performed at better-known comedy clubs: The Relapse and The Punchline. And just as life always has, Menuhin was hit with another calamity in his career and he realized he was ready for more – New York. Menuhin moved back to his roots and within a few years he opened for Thomas Dale at Caroline’s, making it as a semi-finalist in NBC’s Stand Up for Diversity, creating personal podcasts “Netflix Campfire” and “Vintage Static” with self-made voice-overs, writing sketches, producing music for other comics such as Dante Nero’s podcast Beige Philip, beatboxing on MTV2′s Joking Off, and performing at Gotham Comedy Club, The Stand, The Standing Room, Eastville Comedy Club, New York Comedy Club, and more. And he continues to be well known amongst New York comics to be the “class clown.”

Following the events of the Starving Time, the Virginia colony entered a period of relative stability. This is largely caused by the arrival of Thomas Dale who becomes the new Governor of the colony. With the colony under something now resembling martial law, discipline was on the rise. The tides would really turn however when the capture of Pocahontas led to the end of the first Anglo-Powhatan war. The peace that would spread throughout the colony would allow Jamestown to finally expand past its original borders and was the exact thing necessary for the cultivation of tobacco to begin to flourish. We’ve got another double-header episode this time around, with comedians Brad Williams and Ralphie May! Both Brad and Ralphie are part of The Nasty Show at Montreal’s Just for Laughs, which also features Bobby Slayton, Paula Bel, Thomas Dale, with Quebec’s own Mike Ward on hosting duties. The Nasty Show runs from July 20 – 30 at Metropolis. We have a pair of tickets to give away for the 8:30 show on July 25 – enter here if you haven't already. First up, I speak to Brad Williams about refusing to be a spokesperson for the dwarf community, dealing with hecklers, and texting Neil Patrick Harris. Brad’s latest stand-up special, Daddy Issues, is out now on Showtime. Next, Ralphie May discusses the turbulent state of stand up comedy, why TMZ won’t leave him alone, and his favourite HGTV shows. His latest special, Unruly, is up now on Netflix. As this is posted, Quebec's Human Rights Tribunal just ordered Mike Ward to pay $35,000 to Jérémy Gabriel, the former child singer who was the butt of one of Mike Ward’s jokes. Since they’re all on the Nasty Show together, both Brad and Ralphie weigh in on their thoughts about the controversy, and what it might mean for comedians in the US. You can also read our interview with Ward about taking over the reigns of The Nasty Show here. For more info, head over to bradwilliamscomedy.com and ralphiemay.com. Danny gives Chris encouragement about all of the success he’s had in his career thus far. Ken Marino calls in and he and the guys talk about how great it would be to play a video game that is their life. Thomas Dale, a good friend of both Danny and Chris, joins them as the fourth guest of the day. Thomas believes strongly in astrology and enlightens the crew with some of his knowledge, however everything reverts back to him being gay. Thomas and Chris feel a special kinship towards each other because they’re both Italian. Last but not least, Janine Brito joins the crew. She has officially popped her New York cherry but she hasn’t found an apartment yet. Janine explains being a lesbian and growing up in a very religious home. This leads the conversation towards stress tests and scientology. Chris and Danny are searching for a new tag line to end the show with, stay tuned to see what they will come up with!
