This week, Da7e tells the other hosts about The AI Doc or How I Became an Apocaloptimist, a movie that is mostly vibes. Including Conan O'Brien's hosting performance, in-memoriam, one battle after another between Paul Thomas Anderson and Ryan Coogler, and more. All this and more are up for grabs as we recap this year's Oscars! The Academy Awards ("Oscars") are the most prestigious awards in filmmaking and showcase some of the greatest talent and work in motion pictures for that running year. The nominees and winners are selected by majority vote from members of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. This week we have for you a hastily thrown-together podcast on the 98th Annual Academy Awards. Our plans to discuss this week's film fell through, so instead we go through every category in an unusually competitive Oscar race? Will it be Sinners or One Battle After Another? Listen to find out! Well, actually, I just hedge my bets a lot, but it's going to be OBAA. (Unless it's Sinners.)
Today on "Words On Film", Dan Burke reveals what movies he thinks will win and should win at the 98th Annual Academy Awards.

Join us in our discussion of the 98th Annual Academy Awards. In this third episode we discuss who we think is the most deserving in the categories of Directing and Best Picture. A category full of amazing films.
This week, Eric and Josh are joined by Emily in honour of International Women's Day (or, possibly a coincidence that we recorded with her on that specific day). They discuss: the extinct Westgate Mall, $2 movie tickets, MotoPhoto, Psycho & Psycho II, the state of comic books, Hoopla, The Three-Body Problem, newspaper movie ads, the Freddy vs Jason vs Ash comic, Catherine O'Hara, and more! They also mention the movies screening the week of Friday March 13 - Thursday March 19: Freddy Vs Jason, THX 1138, Nash The Slash Rises Again!, Sinners, Marty Supereme, Saturday Night Sinema, and the 98th Annual Academy Awards! They neglect to mention Sirāt, and encore screenings of One Battle After Another, which were booked after the recording. You can always keep up to date on screenings at mayfairtheatre.ca
Julia shares her reactions to the 98th Annual Academy Award nominations! Including but not limited to, her reactions to everybody's reactions. Julia dives into snubs, such as Amanda Seyfried and Chase Infiniti, amazing talent from amazing people, such as Ryan Coogler and Rose Byrne, and, of course, the controversies. Julia dives into Timothee Chalamet's ballet/opera comment and how/why all the white men in the Academy randomly don't like him, a white man in the Academy?? There is also discussion of voters claiming 'Wicked: For Good' did not receive any nominations because Ariana Grande needed to be [checks notes] saved from Cynthia Erivo?!If you couldn't tell by now, this episode is a bit of a rant session. But, unfortunately, racism and misogyny run rampant even in our silly little award shows. Can't we all just watch movies and smile?!'Sinners,' 'No Other Choice' and 'Sentimental Value,' are touched-upon, as well. Please, we ask that everybody keep an open mind when Julia shares her opinion on #things.Buckle up, best actors, and let's discuss THE OSCARS!Tune in Monday ~2AM EST for Julia's immediate reaction to the ceremony where, quite literally, anything can happen. xEp. It's our favorite season on the podcast, awards! We invited over our friends and Oscar experts Joshua Clement and Harper Thomson back on the podcast to talk about our annual Oscar episode where we break down the delightfully chaotic categories of the 98th Annual Academy Awards, that are airing March 15th. With categories this year that are close calls like best actor. Has Timothée Chalamet's cocky campaign cost him the win? Will Ethan Hawke or Leonardo DiCaprio pull off a surprise win? Or will Michael B. Jordan's strong finish with the Actor's Award send him to victory? This might be the most we've talked about one of the male categories ever on the Oscar episode. We get into all the categories and talk about snubs with a full examination of wha' ha' happened with Wicked For Good, and our love Amanda Seyfried in Testiment of Ann Lee. And we do the second annual Empty Mug Awards! Join us in our discussion of the 98th Annual Academy Awards. In this second episode we discuss who we think is the most deserving in the categories of Best Actress in a Leading Role and Best Actor in a Leading Role. "A very competitive category".
In this conversation, the nerds predict the winners of the 2026 Oscars across all categories, including Best Picture, Best Actor and Actress, Makeup and Hair Styling, Best Original Score, and the brand new Best Casting category. Will Michael B. Jordan, Ryan Coogler, and Sinners walk away the big winners of the night? Will international films Sentimental Value and The Secret Agent get the recognition they deserve? Will K Pop Demon Hunters win over Zootopia 2 for Best Animated Feature? Will Leonardo Dicaprio's One Battle After Another take home any awards? We discuss that and so much more as we predict the winners for the 98th Annual Academy Awards 2026. How many of the 2026 Oscars predictions will we get correct (and how many will we get wrong?)

We start off with a discussion of the 35th Annual Academy Awards and how unremarkable it was - save for one very uniquely petty acceptance speech. Frank Sinatra may be charming, but he really shouldn't emcee an awards show. Then we dive deep into the 2025 Oscars, are befuddled and disappointed by how much everyone seems to love Anora, declare love for Conan O'Brien's bits and the nation of Latvia, and overall just seem underwhelmed by the year in movies that was. Editor - Terilyn A. Shropshire, ACE TWISTERS editor Terilyn Shropshire has more than a few action movies under her belt, but those films mostly featured action in the style of man (or woman) vs. man; films like THE OLD GUARD and THE WOMAN KING. This time Teri takes on Mother Nature in a film where the visual effects are front and center in the set pieces. A standalone "spiritual" sequel to TWISTER (1996), TWISTERS tells the story of scientist and storm chaser, Kate Cooper. Haunted by a devastating encounter with a tornado, Kate gets lured back to the open plains by her friend, Javi, to test a groundbreaking new tracking system. She soon crosses paths with Tyler Owens, a charming but reckless social-media superstar who thrives on posting his storm-chasing adventures. As storm season intensifies, Kate, Tyler and their competing teams find themselves in a fight for their lives as multiple systems converge over central Oklahoma. TERILYN A. SHROPSHIRE, ACE Award-winning editor Terilyn A. Shropshire has risen to the pinnacle of the editing world over the course of her long career, consistently working on a broad range of films with the industry's foremost filmmakers. Shropshire's success spans many forms and mediums, and always accumulates accolades from both the industry and critics alike. Hollywood's biggest night took place during the 96th Annual Academy Awards and the Back To The Blockbuster team is recapping all the wins, snubs, flubs, and jokes from the event. All the Oscars have been handed out and Oppenheimer, which led with eleven nominations, took home seven for the night, including Best Picture and Best Director for Christopher Nolan, marking the first Oscar win of his career. The show was hosted by Jimmy Kimmel and we weigh in on if he measured up to his past endeavors as host and we also touch on some of the bits on the show that landed (Messi The Dog, Ryan Gosling performing “I'm Just Ken”) and what jokes may have needed some work. Was it a proper celebration of the year in film? Listen to see if we felt it was the culmination of 2023's output for the industry.
We catch up on the biggest winners, losers, snubs and looks of the Illuminati Humiliation Ritual commonly known as the 96th Annual Academy Awards. Then speaking of Humiliation Rituals, we discuss the State of the Union, the response from GOP Senator Katie Britt, Mitch McConnell's sister-in-law being killed by her own Tesla, and how Zionists are having a hard time finding a date on the apps. The Oscars are just around the corner! And that means it's time for our yearly deep dive into the Oscar nominees. This year, Christopher Nolan's “Oppenheimer” takes the lead with a total of 13 nominations, including Best Actor in a Leading Role (Cillian Murphy), Best Director, and Best Picture. It's followed closely behind by Yorgos Lanthimos' “Poor Things” with 11 nominations, Martian Scorecees's “Killers of the Flower Moon” with 10 nominations, and last year's surprise billion-dollar box office hit “Barbie,” directed by Greta Gerwig, with eight nominations. With a tight race for several of the categories, including Best Picture and Best Actress, the 96th Academy Awards looks to be a thrilling show spotlighting the best cinema has to offer!Today on FilmWeek, Larry Mantle is joined by the FilmWeek critics live at the historic Orpheum Theatre in downtown LA as they highlight the best of each Oscar category, dive into what films they felt were snubbed a nomination, and deliberate over which film will take home the illustrious Academy Award for Best Picture. You can find the full list of nominees here.
The nominations for the 96th Annual Academy Awards were announced yesterday, and in spite of some history-making nods (here's lookin' at you Lily Gladstone and Colman Domingo!), there were two major snubs that have everyone talking. Despite arguably being the biggest hit of '23 (not to mention being a true cultural sensation), “Barbie” director Greta Gerwig and lead actress Margot Robbie were passed over. And co-stars Ryan Gosling and America Ferrera (who did get acting noms for the movie) are not happy about it. And they're letting everyone know how they feel.
