I remember our very first meeting in the offices of Raizcorp, a business incubator in South Africa. Mots will tell you the story of how she walked out of that very encounter with the words “You are a goddess, celebrate it and bring it out” edged on her mind. This is what I saw within her, and today I feel the embodiment of her powerful self in every way. Mots shares her story in an unfiltered voice of confidence. Her story of becoming a traditional African healer, a path she held in severe judgement and wanted nothing to do with. Her story of how she came back to herself. In this episode, we delve into a deep conversation around what it takes to show up in our fullness. Some of what we discussed: ► Flow ► Losing R100 000 in an hour of lockdown ► Initiation for acceptance of our gifts ► The evolution of business ► When there is no empirical evidence I would love to hear your experience of personal initiation in whatever form that took for you. South Africa is one of the toughest countries in the world to be an entrepreneur but as the country emerges from the economic shocks of the Covid-19 pandemic, there are encouraging signs of increased entrepreneurial activity and of more small businesses making it beyond the startup stage. The latest Global Entrepreneurship Monitor South Africa (GEM SA) report released recently, found that while South Africa's supportive environment for entrepreneurship is rated lower than global averages, there are positive signals in increased early-stage entrepreneurial activity and rising entrepreneurship rates among women and young people. Titled Fostering entrepreneurial ecosystem vitality, the GEM SA report was authored by Angus Bowmaker-Falconer with Natanya Meyer, associate professor in the SARChI Chair for Entrepreneurship Education at the University of Johannesburg. To discuss this Michael Avery is joined by Angus Bowmaker-Falconer, Research Fellow: Stellenbosch Business School; Natanya Meyer, associate professor in the SARChI Chair for Entrepreneurship Education: University of Johannesburg & Allon Raiz, CEO: Raizcorp

Allon Raiz, CEO of Raizcorp
Allon Raiz has worked as a business ProsperatorTM for over 20 years. He's also authored two books. Through his company, Raizcorp, Allon assists entrepreneurs to prosper in their ventures. If a business (idea) is valuable, Allon is happy to help. In his view, a business doesn't need funding to ensure success. Rather, enterprises need to be sustainable and run by someone dedicated. Allon established Raizcorp as a way to pay forward the initial help offered to him by his mentor. Raizcorp does this by equipping fellow entrepreneurs through various education and training initiatives. The company also offers entrepreneurs strategic partnership and sponsorship programmes. In this episode, Allon shares his first foray into failure and how it changed his mindset. He also talks about running “the only genuine incubator on the African continent”. Listen as Charles Hsuan and Allon bond over both interviewing for corporate jobs before committing to their own ventures. And be treated to Allon's unique storytelling style. You'll also get some great suggestions for new reading material!
