On March 19th, 2014, school officials in Washington, DC went to a local homeless shelter to follow up on an 8-year-old student named Relisha Rudd due to her having missed more than two weeks of school. For several weeks, they'd reportedly been told by Relisha's mother that she was under a doctor's care. They were stunned to find out that the so-called doctor was actually a custodian at the shelter and that none of Shamika's family members had seen her for 18 days. Where was Relisha Rudd and who was the janitor that she'd seemingly disappeared into thin air with? TRIGGER WARNINGS: child abuse, grooming Want access to our first 45 episodes? Grab em here! Good morning/afternoon, everyone from MTMJ Podcast With The Wife. Today we are discussing a few relevant and essential topics to our community. Starting, we have been made aware of a wave of police impersonations occurring in Arlington, Virginia. Reports of people posing as law enforcement trying to pull vehicles over have been popping up all over the area. So please be aware that if someone claims to be an official police officer, make sure you verify their identity before following orders. In other news, an important safety reminder: pedestrians have the right of way in crosswalks in Virginia. This means as a driver; you must yield and stop for pedestrians. Make sure to always look for pedestrians before you turn. In related news, we must not forget the infamous story of Relisha Rudd. In 2014, the 8-year-old went missing from a DC homeless shelter in what became a national search attempt. Unfortunately, her story has left unanswered questions, and we must continue to pray for her family. Switching gears, we now move to another state in the country, Alabama. Recently, a 25-year-old woman who had been missing for two days was located. We are relieved to hear of her well-being, and we hope the authorities can continue to investigate the case entirely for any clues as to what happened. Also in the news is an outbreak of syphilis in Texas. Health authorities ask residents to know the symptoms and get tested if necessary. Another story of tragedy making news is that of a girl who suffered from a severe chemical burn during a fight at her school. We feel for her family, and we pray for her speedy recovery. Finally, we also want to bring awareness to the story of rapper Boosie Badazz's daughter. A recently released video shows her being disrespectful and unruly with him, leading him to have a heated response. Parents must remain aware of the ways their children may express their emotions before it turns into a bigger problem. Thank you, everyone, for joining us in this discussion, and have a great evening!

Relisha Rudd was an 8-year-old girl living with her mother at a homeless shelter, when she disappeared one day. Many theorize that the janitor at the shelter – who had a felony record for burglary, larceny, and breaking and entering, and had been spending a lot of time with Relisha alone – kidnapped her. Police commander. Since Larson ran the Homeless Children's Playtime Project, she assumed the call was related to her job. Around the time of the phone call, a 14-year-old girl has run away from the homeless shelter. This led to questions surrounding the degree of care the shelter has for its runaways. Larson was wrong, though. The commander asked if she knew that an 8-year-old was missing from her shelter. The Homeless Children's Playtime Project is an organization that works to create play areas for homeless children. Relisha Rudd — the aforementioned 8-year-old — was one of those children. Upon being told that she was missing, Larson was asked to send the police all of the information she had on Relisha. Emails confirm that Larson had provided the police with everything they'd asked for.“She holds such a special place in our hearts,” Larson said. “I think we owe it to her to not give up and to keep her picture and her story out there.”Support the show

From our friends at WAMU and PRX. When 8 year old Relisha Rudd disappeared from a homeless shelter in Washington, D.C. in 2014, nobody noticed. By the time authorities formally declared Relisha “missing,” 18 days had passed since she'd been spotted at school or the shelter where her family lived. Seven years later, Relisha has never been found. Through The Cracks investigates gaps in our society and the people who fall through them, and in this first season, host Jonquilyn Hill asks if Relisha's disappearance was, as the city later claimed, unpreventable

I viscerally recall the first time I heard that there were at least 64,000 missing Black girls and women in the United States. It was 2019 and I was attending a symposium focused on Black girlhood. At that time, I didn't know the total number of missing people in the U.S., but 64,000 felt alarmingly high. After a bit of research, I found out that Black women and girls comprised more than 30% percent of women and girls reported missing in the U.S.

What was Kahlil's involvement, and where is he at today? --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/tponrpodcast/support
Every year thousands of people go missing out of America's capital, Washington DC. Which sadly is what happened to a second grader who was living in a homeless shelter with her family. After missing school and being unaccounted for over a month, police were behind the curve on locating her. Conflicting stories from her mother, a complete lack of accountability and finger pointing between school officials, social workers, police, and the main suspect dead, police are no closer today, then they were when she went missing in 2014, to locating her. Was she murdered or did she fall victim to human trafficking. Today we give Relisha Rudd the Last Word. Recy Taylor, Rosa Parks, Relisha Rudd - more than just names and stories, these are women and girls whose lives were upended by violence. And there are countless other black women and girls who experience similarly horrifying incidents. In this episode we explore the history of violence against black women and girls in America, the lack of services available to them, and the solutions that are necessary to empower them. Dr. Jameta Barlow, community psychologist and assistant professor at The George Washington University presents a brief history of violence against black women and girls in United States - beginning with the story of Recy Taylor and extending to other experiences of slavery and human rights violations against black people in America - that offers a framework for our present reality fraught with systemic failures, barriers to support and increasing violence against women. Dr. Barlow also provides examples of progress in these areas and offers solutions for the future through her strengths-based approach to solving community health problems. Her 2020 article titled, The Forgotten Survivors of Sexual Violence: Black Women and Girls in America, was the impetus for this conversation and it can be found on the website of the American Psychological Association. This episode discusses sexual violence, rape, racism, child abduction and other forms of violence.
The video seemed innocent enough. A little girl walks close by an older man with bags in her hand, dressed warmly for the February weather outside, without a care in the world down the hallway of a Days Inn and proceeds to their assigned room. But of course, all things are not as they seem. This man is not this little girl's father and this tape will be the last time she is seen again. We finish our coverage of the HBO docu-series "Black and Missing" by focusing on the cases of Tamika Huston, Akia Eggleston and Relisha Rudd. Tamika's disappearance and her family's frustration with getting media attention led Natalie and Derricka Wilson to form the Black and Missing organization. Akia, an expectant mother, went missing and it was shockingly difficult for her family to get the police to take it seriously. Eight year old Relisha Rudd was missing for almost an entire month before anyone reported it to the police. How did this happen? You won't believe these heartbreaking cases. #hernamewasTamikaHuston#hernamewasAkiaEggleston#hernamewasRelishaRudd#blackandmissing#neverstopsearching#soledado'brien#derricawilson#nathaliewilson#hbodocumentariesPLEASE SUPPORT OUR SPONSORSBOLL & BRANCH SHEETS -The Signature Hemmed Sheets from Boll & Branch are a best-seller for a reason. Jermain Charlo was an Indigenous mother who went missing in Montana in the summer of 2018. Relisha Rudd, an 8-year-old Black girl, went missing in Washington, D.C. in March 2014. Neither has been found. Unlike Gabby Petito, these cases didn't grab national headlines. Connie Walker, host of Stolen: The Search for Jermain, and Jonquilyn Hill, host of Through the Cracks, join Sam to discuss why cases of missing Black and Indigenous people don't get the same kind of attention from media and law enforcement. She was excited to head home as she was preparing to attend cosmetology school, however, Katelin never made her flight. Join Jenn, Court, and Beck as they ponder why her step-dad would seemingly lie about dropping her off, how cell phone tower pings tell a different story, and why Katelin's luggage would be left with everything but her clothes. Black Children are missing at an alarming rate and the mainstream media seems not to care. Too many times we depend on the mainstream media platforms to put the word out about what is important in the Black Community and they let us down time after time without end. 64,000 Black women were reported missing in the year 2014 yet how many of us are aware of not only this fact, but the danger that it places us in as a people? There is something very strange going on in this country and we cannot wait on the so called powers that be to make it right for us when we can safeguard our Women and Children ourselves to fight what appears to be a very organize order of evil!
