At least 10 area men exonerated by president In one of his first acts in office, President Donald Trump on Monday (Jan. 20) pardoned more than 1,500 men and women charged with participating in the attack on the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, during the certification of Joe Biden's election win. Those receiving "full, complete and unconditional pardons" include at least five local men convicted of felonies. Trump, declaring Monday to be "liberation day," also commuted the sentences of 14 people associated with the Proud Boys or Oath Keepers and convicted of seditious conspiracy for mounting an organized, military-like assault. Because they did not receive pardons, they will continue to face restrictions such as a ban on voting and owning firearms. More than 700 of the 1,100 people convicted received no prison time or have completed their sentences. But as of this week, about 400 others were incarcerated. At least 387 rioters were convicted of assaulting police officers or journalists, according to a tally by The Washington Post. Rep. Mike Lawler, a Republican whose district includes Philipstown, two weeks ago said on MSNBC he didn't think anyone who committed violence on Jan. 6 should be pardoned. In a statement on Tuesday (Jan. 21), a spokesman said Lawler's stance hasn't changed but that, "as President Biden proved by preemptively pardoning his entire family, the president has absolute pardon authority." Rep. Pat Ryan, a Democrat whose district includes Beacon, said in a statement that Trump had "pardoned insurrectionists convicted of violently assaulting police officers. That doesn't make life more safe for Hudson Valley families." William Pepe, Beacon On Tuesday, federal prosecutors asked a judge to dismiss the indictment against Pepe because of Trump's order. Pepe, who now lives in White Plains, was found guilty in a bench trial on Oct. 23 of a felony (obstructing law enforcement during a civil disorder) and four misdemeanors. He was identified by prosecutors as president of the Hudson Valley chapter of the Proud Boys and accused of coordinating with other Proud Boys by radio and moving a police barricade. Pepe was arrested six days after the riot and fired from his job at Metro-North in Brewster. He had been free until sentencing, which was scheduled for March 11. Gregory Purdy Jr., Hopewell Junction Matthew Purdy, Hopewell Junction Robert Turner, Poughkeepsie A federal judge on Tuesday dismissed indictments against Purdy Jr., a 2016 Carmel High School graduate, and Turner, his uncle. Purdy Jr. was convicted by a jury in June of six felonies. Turner, 42, formerly of Poughkeepsie, was convicted of three felonies. Both were found guilty of assaulting, resisting or impeding officers. Gregory Purdy's younger brother, Matthew, was convicted of two misdemeanors. The government had asked that Purdy Jr. be sentenced to five years. On Dec. 6, Matthew Purdy was sentenced to 90 days and sent to a detention center in Philadelphia. The Purdy brothers are sons of Gregory Schwartz-Purdy, a Republican from Kent who in 2016 challenged then-Assembly Member Sandy Galef, a Democrat whose district included Philipstown, for her seat. According to a LinkedIn profile, Purdy Jr. managed his father's campaign. "To all the haters out there, President Trump kept his word," Gregory Purdy said in a phone call on Monday to supporters waiting outside the Washington, D.C., jail where he was being held, according to The Washington Post. In a court filing after Purdy Jr. was arrested in November 2021, the FBI cited videos he posted on social media and footage retrieved from body cameras worn by two Metropolitan Police Department officers confronted outside the Capitol at 2 p.m. by Purdy Jr. and Purdy-Schwartz, about 20 minutes before the House and Senate chambers were evacuated. According to the FBI, Purdy Jr. told the officers, "You gotta let us by," and his father said, "You're going to make a decision." Purdy Jr. later posted to Instagram, according to ...
Over a harrowing 69 minutes on September 2013, 12 people were shot dead and many more wounded in what was Washington DC's deadliest mass shooting. Navy contractor Aaron Alexis terrorised thousands of workers at the Washington Navy Yard. Former FBI Agent Timothy Gallagher led the operation at the navy yard, and he describes to host Brent Sanders how hours felt like minutes as he and his colleagues raced against time to find and capture the killer. Eight witnesses provided crucial testimony on the fourth day of the murder trial of former Clark County Public Administrator Robert Telles, who stands accused of killing Las Vegas Review-Journal investigative reporter Jeff German. The trial, which has captured widespread attention, is centered on allegations that Telles, 47, murdered German in response to a series of articles the journalist wrote about his conduct and internal turmoil within the county office. During the day's proceedings, former Metropolitan Police Department detective Cliff Mogg provided critical evidence connecting Telles to the crime scene. Mogg testified about his analysis of surveillance footage that captured a maroon Yukon Denali, identified as the suspect's vehicle, near German's home. He noted a distinctive feature of the vehicle—the rear lift gate, where the license plate appeared dark in one image but displayed a white spot in another, matching the specialty plate on Telles's vehicle. When Telles's defense attorney, Robert Draskovich, questioned Mogg's conclusions, the detective confidently responded, "I was present for the execution of a search warrant at Mr. Telles' residence where several items of evidence were recovered. That absolutely confirmed my belief that Mr. Telles' vehicle was the one used in the commission of Jeffrey German's murder." Further testimony came from real estate agent Zackary Schilling, who had worked with Telles in the public administrator's office. Schilling testified that he recognized the suspect in the surveillance footage based on the individual's walk, shoes, and the vehicle seen driving away from the crime scene. "Boy, that really looks like somebody I know," Schilling recalled thinking when he first saw the footage. When asked by Chief Deputy District Attorney Christopher Hamner who he believed the suspect was, Schilling answered, "I was thinking of Mr. Telles." Schilling also identified the suspect's shoes as "the cheap Nikes he always wore," a detail that further solidified his recognition. He mentioned discussing the footage with his colleague, Kristen Riffle, who also testified, and they both agreed that the person in the footage appeared to be Telles. "It just came down my spine," Schilling said in court, describing his realization that the vehicle in the footage matched Telles's car. "I didn't want to believe it, but the facts are the facts. That was Rob Telles' car." The day's testimony also included harrowing details from Stephanie Yagi, a medical examiner with the Clark County coroner's office. As the autopsy photos were displayed in court, Telles appeared to grimace, a reaction that did not go unnoticed by those in attendance. Yagi described the 13 injuries German sustained during the attack, including six stab wounds, seven incise wounds, and a slash on his throat. She also noted defensive injuries on German's hands, indicating that he may have attempted to fend off the attack. Want to listen to ALL of our podcasts AD-FREE? Our card this week is Dana Chisholm, the Jack of Diamonds from Washington, D.C.I've been telling victims' stories for 6½ years now. I've been a consumer of them for even longer. And in all that time, few stories have haunted me the way Dana's has. Her killer was bold, so confident police would never catch him, that he taunted them. And for nearly 30 years, he's been able to get away with it. But I think that's coming to an end. Because even though it seems like he tried to do everything he could to erase himself from Dana's apartment and her life, it looks like he didn't cover all his tracks. He may have just left something behind that could finally give him away.If you have any information about the murder of Dana Chisholm in February of 1995 in Washington, D.C., please contact the Metropolitan Police Department at 202-727-9099, or remain anonymous by texting your tip to MPD's Text Tip Line at 50411. There is a $25,000 reward for any information leading to an arrest and conviction in the homicide of Dana Chisholm. Dana's case is one we wanted you to see with your own eyes. A tragic incident transpired on a late Saturday evening, where a mishap resulted in a vehicle crashing into one of the gates enclosing the esteemed the White House complex, with the driver meeting an unfortunate and unexpected end. This scenario sent ripples throughout the various security teams assigned to this iconic structure, despite the current resident, President Joe Biden, being away in Delaware for the weekend at the time. An account of the event indicates that the lamentable incident is currently under investigation, with preliminary findings suggesting it was nothing more than a terrible traffic accident. The individual involved in the crash, who at this time remains unidentified, was discovered lifeless inside the vehicle following the collision that took place shortly prior to 10:30 in the evening. This information was communicated via an official brief disclosed by the Secret Service. The necessity for such a robust response was further underscored by the tragic reality - that the ill-fated driver arrived at such a fate only a matter of minutes after the incident unfolded. The Metropolitan Police Department has also offered their account of the incident. It was their assertion that the vehicle met its ill fate against a security barrier, specifically at the crossing of 15th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue NW. The exact location of the occurrence almost immediately signaled not just the severity of the crash, but the heightened implications it brought about due to the proximity of the White House. Undercover reporter Sound Investigations revealed startling admissions of a former FBI Staffer Gavin O'Blennis who admitted the FBI 'nudges' people and events in order to get convictions and was the first to openly admit the FBI had undercover operators at the Capitol on January 6 admitting it was up to Capitol Police to get more resources on the day, something Police Chief Steven Sund begged for on the day but was denied. On today's show, we discuss this revelation in detail along with other new information surfacing from the events of J6 that show there is a dirty tricks campaign underway. GUEST OVERVIEW: Steven A. Sund was the tenth Chief of Police for the United States Capitol Police from June 13, 2019, until January 8, 2021. Before joining the United States Capitol Police in 2017, Sund had a twenty-five-year law enforcement career working for the Metropolitan Police Department in Washington, DC, where he rose in the ranks from patrol officer to commander of the elite Special Operations Division (SOD). As commander, he led planning for numerous high-level security events, including four presidential inaugurations, and oversaw a number of specialized units, including the Emergency Response Team (SWAT), Special Events/Dignitary Protection Branch, Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit (Bomb Squad), and many others.
Ralph welcomes back medical journalist and New York Times bestselling author, Jean Carper, to elaborate on her latest book, “100 LIFE OR DEATH FOODS: A Scientific Guide to Which Foods Prolong Life or Kill You Prematurely.” Plus, the latest news about Boeing and the UAW.Jean Carper is a medical journalist, and wrote “EatSmart” (a popular weekly column on nutrition, every week for USA Weekend Magazine) from 1994 until 2008; she is still a contributing editor, writing health and nutrition articles. Ms. Carper is also a former CNN medical correspondent and director of the documentary Monster in the Mind. She is the best-selling author of 25 books, mostly on nutrition and health. Her latest book is 100 LIFE OR DEATH FOODS: A Scientific Guide to Which Foods Prolong Life or Kill You Prematurely. The reason I wrote the book was that I knew there is no other book like this. Nobody has taken a scientific look at all the studies that are being done on specific foods with conclusions as to how they are going to affect longevity. It is a totally new field. It really only started several years ago where scientists are getting interested in this. I thought of all the things that would be the most interesting about a food, and whether or not you wanted to eat it would be, “Oh, how long does it prolong my life? Or on the other hand, is it likely to shorten my life?”Jean CarperLess-developed countries with their natural food from over the history of their cultures are very often far superior [in longevity studies] to the so-called corporatized Western diet.Ralph NaderIn Case You Haven't Heard with Francesco DeSantis1. The International Criminal Court at the Hague is preparing to hand down indictments to Israeli officials for committing war crimes. The Guardian reports the indicted are expected to include authoritarian Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, among others. These indictments will likely focus on Netanyahu's strategy of intentional starvation in Gaza. Yet, lest one think that the United States actually believes in the “rules based international order,” they have touted so frequently, the Biden administration will not allow these indictments to be effectuated, baselessly claiming that the ICC does not have jurisdiction in Israel. Democracy Now! reports State Department spokesman Vedant Patel told the press “Since this president has come into office, we have worked to reset our relationship with the ICC, and we are in contact with the court on a range of issues, including in connection to the court's important work on Darfur, on Ukraine, on Sudan, as well. But on this investigation, our position is clear: We continue to believe that the ICC does not have jurisdiction over the Palestinian situation.” Former Human Rights Watch Executive Director Kenneth Roth – who has faced retribution for his past criticism of Israel – called this “the height of hypocrisy.”2. Even as the United States shields Israel from international legal consequences for its crimes, an internal state department memo indicates the American diplomatic corps is increasingly skeptical of the pariah state. Reuters reports “senior U.S. officials have advised Secretary of State Antony Blinken that they do not find ‘credible or reliable' Israel's assurances that it is using U.S.-supplied weapons in accordance with international humanitarian law.” This memo includes “eight examples of Israeli military actions that the officials said raise "serious questions" about potential violations of international humanitarian law…[including] repeatedly striking protected sites and civilian infrastructure; "unconscionably high levels of civilian harm to military advantage"; taking little action to investigate violations or to hold to account those responsible for significant civilian harm and "killing humanitarian workers and journalists at an unprecedented rate."” The State Department however will only release a “complete assessment of credibility” in its May 8th report to Congress.3. On Tuesday, the Guardian reports, an army of NYPD officers – including hundreds of armed officers in riot gear and heavy vehicles such as police busses, MRAPs, and “the Bear,” a ladder truck used to breach upper story windows – stormed the campus of Columbia University and carried out mass arrests at the college's Hamilton Hall – which had been non-violently occupied by students and renamed Hind's Hall after Hind Rajab, a six-year old Palestinian girl murdered by the IDF. Hamilton Hall was among the buildings occupied by anti-Vietnam War Protesters during the Columbia Uprising of 1968. Mayor Eric Adams used as a pretext for this militarized police action a claim that the student protest had been “co-opted” by “outside agitators”; there has been no evidence presented to support this claim. The NYPD also threatened to arrest student journalists, and the Columbia Journalism School Dean Jelani Cobb, per Samantha Gross of the Boston Globe, and videos show the cops arresting legal observers and medics. Columbia University President, the Anglo-Egyptian Baroness Minouche Shafik, has requested that the NYPD continue to occupy the Morningside Heights campus until May 17th.4. At the University of California Los Angeles, the New York Times reports “U.C.L.A. asked for officers after a clash between pro-Palestinian demonstrators and counterprotesters grew heated overnight.” This misleading report fails to clarify that, as Alejandra Caraballo of Harvard Law puts it “the police stood aside and let a pro Israeli lynch mob run wild at UCLA. They did nothing for two hours as violent Zionists assaulted students, launched fireworks into the encampment, and sprayed mace on students.” The accompanying videos must be seen to be believed. This is yet another glaring example of media manipulation on behalf of Zionist aggression against non-violent student protesters.5. In the nation's capital, a peaceful pro-Palestine encampment at the George Washington University continues to hold in the face of increasing pressure. The Washington Post reports that the university requested the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department to clear the encampment last week, but the cops demurred. The Post article cites an unnamed D.C. official who “said they had flashbacks to June 2020, when images of mostly peaceful protesters being forcefully shoved out of Lafayette Square by U.S. Park Police officers with batons and chemical irritants made national news.” The university has issued temporary suspensions and did attempt to clear the encampment over the weekend, but failed to do so. Now however, congressional Republicans are heaping pressure upon the university and District of Columbia Mayor Bowser. According to the GW Hatchet, “[Representatives] Virginia Foxx and James Comer — who chair the House Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Oversight and Accountability, respectively — wrote [in letter to Bowser and MPD Chief Pamela Smith] that they were “alarmed” by the Metropolitan Police Department's reported refusal to clear the encampment.” and threatened to take legislative action. Senator Tom Cotton, infamous for his New York Times op-ed calling for the deployment of the national guard to shut down Black Lives Matter protests in 2020, sent a letter to Bowser on Tuesday, writing “Whether it is due to incompetence or sympathy for the cause of these Hamas supporters, you are failing to protect the rights of law-abiding citizens by letting a terrorist-supporting mob take over a large area of a university…Your actions are a good reminder of why Washington, D.C. must never become a state.” So far, the District's leadership has exercised a rare and commendable restraint. One can only hope that continues.6. Looking beyond individual campuses, the Appeal reports over 1,400 students and staff have been arrested at “protest encampments or…sit-ins on more than 70 college campuses across 32 states during the past month.” This piece followed up on these arrests by contacting prosecutors and city attorneys' offices in every one of these jurisdictions – and found that “only two offices said they would not charge people for peacefully protesting.” These were “ Sam Bregman, the prosecutor for Bernalillo County, New Mexico, [which] includes the University of New Mexico's Albuquerque campus….[and] Matthew Van Houten, the prosecutor overseeing Cornell University in Ithaca, New York.” Incredibly, this piece was published even before the recent mass arrests at Columbia and the City College of New York, which are estimated at nearly 300, per CNN.7. Bringing the civil war within the Democratic Party on this issue into full view, the College Democrats of America – the official student outreach arm of the DNC – has issued a statement commending the “heroic actions on the part of students...for an end to the war in Palestine…[and] for an immediate permanent ceasefire.” This statement goes on to say “Arresting, suspending, and evicting students without any due process is not only legally dubious but morally reprehensible,” and excoriates the White House for taking “the mistaken route of a bear hug strategy for Netanyahu and a cold shoulder strategy for its own base,” noting that “Each day that Democrats fail to stand united for a permanent ceasefire…more and more youth find themselves disillusioned with the party.”8. Moving beyond Palestine, hard as that is, the American Prospect is out with a chilling new story on Boeing. This report documents how the late Boeing whistle-blower John “Swampy” Barnett – who died under deeply mysterious circumstances during his deposition against the aviation titan last month – was ignored, mocked, and harassed by his corporate overlords. When he tried to raise the alarm that Boeing's practices could be in violation of Section 38 of the United States Criminal code “The whole room…burst out laughing.” When he found planes riddled with defective and nonconforming parts and tried to report it, a supervisor emphatically declared “We're not going to report anything to the FAA.” Yet even more than Boeing's rancid corporate culture, this piece takes aim and corporate criminal law – specifically the Y2K era AIR 21 law which “effectively immunizes airplane manufacturers…from suffering any legal repercussions from the testimony of their own workers.” Per this law, “the exclusive legal remedy available to aviation industry whistleblowers who suffer retaliation for reporting safety violations involves filing a complaint within 90 days of the first instance of alleged retaliation with a secret court administered by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration that lacks subpoena power, takes five years or longer to rule in many cases, and rules against whistleblowers an astounding 97 percent of the time, according to the Government Accountability Project.” No wonder Boeing acts as though they are above the law.9. The United Auto Workers union continues to rack up victories. On Tuesday, More Perfect Union reported “ Mercedes-Benz has abruptly replaced its U.S. CEO in an effort to undercut the union drive at Mercedes's plant in Alabama…In a video shown to workers…new CEO Federico Kochlowski admits that ‘many of you' want change and [promised] improvements.” As Jonah Furman, Communications Director for UAW, notes “Mercedes workers have already:-- killed two-tier wages-- gotten their UAW pay bump-- [and] fired their bossand they haven't even voted yet!If that's what you get for just *talking* union, imagine what you can win when you *join* the union.”Moreover, UAW President Shawn Fain issued a statement decrying the mass arrests of anti-war protesters, writing “The UAW will never support the...intimidation of those exercising their right to protest, strike, or speak out against injustice…This war is wrong, and this response against students and academic workers, many of them UAW members, is wrong…if you can't take the outcry, stop supporting this war.”10. Finally, the New York Daily News's Chris Sommerfledt reports “[New York City's] largest cop union [the Police Benevolent Association] is suing Police Commissioner Ed Caban and Mayor Adams for implementing a new “zero tolerance” policy on NYPD officers using steroids or other performance-enhancing drugs.” The fact that the PBA is suing this ardently pro-cop mayoral administration is alarming enough, but the fact that enough NYPD officers are using steroids to warrant this policy – and enough for the union to step in on their behalf – raises an even more alarming question: how many roid-rage fueled NYPD cops are terrorizing marginalized people on the streets of New York City? Perhaps this could explain some of the NYPD's outrageous, disproportionately violent behavior in recent years. This has been Francesco DeSantis, with In Case You Haven't Heard. A troubling event unfolded in Washington, D.C., unsettling the otherwise serene environment during the early morning hours of a Sunday. A grim atmosphere consumed the city as seven people fell victim to a shooting, with two of those having tragically lost their lives. The frightful incident, which took place around 3 a.m., reverberates in the very core of the city, the suspect still remaining elusive. At the intersection of 7th Street NW and P Street NW, only a brief walk away from the scenic Mt. Vernon Square and the Kennedy Recreation Center, gunfire shattered the silence. The perpetrator vanished into the veil of night, escaping depths of the city that were yet to rise from slumber. The police are sparing no effort in tracing their whereabouts. The Executive Assistant Chief of the Metropolitan Police Department, Jeffrey Carrol, took center stage during a news conference later that same Sunday morning. His appeal to the public was heartfelt, urging them to aid the investigation. He requested anyone harboring possible knowledge about the crime or any potential witnesses out there to reach out and share their information with the police. The suspect under search is described as a man of average build. Details about his appearance include wearing light-colored trousers and a blue shirt at the time of the incident. He was last spotted traveling on foot, heading south on 7th Street NW. The Department, in their urgency, reiterated that residents should refrain from taking action themselves and instead, quickly dial 911. Upon receiving the emergency call and arriving at the scene, the situation was already critical. Present at the site were six adults, all suffering gunshot wounds. Jeffrey Carrol subsequently confirmed the alarming truth - two victims had already succumbed to their injuries when the police stepped on the scene. Later that afternoon, a fresh development startled the law enforcement officials. An extra gunshot victim made his way to a local hospital independently, upping the tally of affected individuals to a chilling seven. Tragic reports the same evening identified the deceased victims as 32-year-old Anthony Brown from Southeast, D.C., and 32-year-old Jay Lucks from Baltimore, Maryland. Despite the ongoing scrutiny of the incident, the driving force behind the horrifying act remains concealed in mystery. The official report from the Metropolitan Police Department does offer some insight, although preliminary. Based on early inferences, it is suspected 'that one or more culprits intentionally fired at the victims', causing this dreadful event. As part of their comprehensive strategy to find the attacker or attackers and bring them to justice, an enticing reward awaits individuals who can provide significant pointers. The Metropolitan Police Department seeks pivotal information leading to the apprehension and subsequent conviction of the person or people behind this disturbing crime. The department promises a tempting $25,000 per victim, summing to a total of $50,000. Privacy remains a priority when dealing with such sensitive events, and the identities of the remaining victims are being withheld. This measure is being followed to allow sufficient time for the next of kin to be notified appropriately and in a way that respects their emotional state, bridging the gap between sensitivity and urgency. Sadly, this horrific occurrence is far from an isolated event, considering the uprising tide of crime in the city. When compared to the same timeframe in 2023, the data implies an unsettling trend - a distressing 35 percent increase in homicides has been registered this year in the nation's capital, Washington, D.C. Tracing back to the previous year, the number of homicides tallied to 274 in 2023 alone. This was an alarming escalation of 35 percent from crimes recorded in 2022, further illustrating the burgeoning crime rates in the city. The issue is certainly serious and demands proper addressal. An examination of the Metropolitan Police Department's statistics from 2023 introduces more areas of concern. Among the rising crime rates, it is noted that robberies saw an increase of 69 percent within a year's span. These are lessons that should help shape better policies and regulations. Furthermore, the data reveals an unequivocal surge in violent crime, with a spike by 40 percent reported the same year. The alarming increment in such incidents reflects a developing pattern that necessitates a proactive response and vigilance from the law enforcement authorities and community alike. Vehicle-related crimes, it seems, have not been spared either. A soaring increase was noted in the case of carjackings, with an astonishing 89 percent hike being documented within a single year. This is yet another part of the crime wave puzzle that has hit Washington, D.C. In light of these circumstances, it is evident that strategies must be reassessed and further robust measures must be implemented to deal with these escalating crime figures. It's a call to reinforce the fundamentals of public safety, law, and order in the face of these daunting statistics. While the city serves as a beacon of political activity and a symbol of historical significance, it is vital to remember that, above all, it serves as home to many. It's important that strength, unity, and a steadfast commitment to justice reign if the tide of crime is to be stemmed and the safety of its citizenry reassured. So, join me as we talk about Better™ here on The Not Old Better Show on radio and podcast. Today, Domestic Darkness: An Insider's Account of the January 6 Insurrection, and it was time to fight or die. That's our guest today, author Julie Farnam, a former member of the US Capital Police who's just read from her new book, Domestic Darkness: An Insider's Account of the January 6 Insurrection. You can hear it in her voice there. Despite the three years since its occurrence, Julie Farnam, from the US Capital Police, still feels the heartbreak, both personally and for the United States. Our nation's democracy faced a harrowing challenge. January 6, 2021, marked a day of turmoil and terror as a white supremacist mob, fervent in their attempts to "Stop the Steal,” stormed the U.S. Capitol. This was not just an assault on a building; it was an assault on the very fabric of our democracy—the peaceful transfer of presidential power. In defending the Capitol, five valiant Capitol police officers tragically lost their lives, and nearly 140 others sustained severe, life-altering injuries. We talk today to Julie Farnam about that day: it was terrifying. Not just for the immediate danger it presented, but for the stark revelation of our vulnerabilities. Julie Farnam observed, almost in a dissociated state, as the emblem of our country's democracy came under attack from its own people. The screams, the fear, the chaos—Julie Farnam says it was like watching a nightmare unfold in broad daylight. Even now, three years later, the full impact of what transpired on that chaotic day, even from a couple blacks away, feels elusive, like a dark cloud that she can't quite escape. Especially disconcerting was that Julie Farnam had seen the signs and read the undercurrents of discontent and danger brewing. Julie Farnam tried to warn the leadership at the Capitol Police—the Capitol Police needed to be prepared to take this threat seriously. But Julie Farnam's words, mired in a system that often overlooked the insights of a woman, fell on deaf ears. As we reflect on the current state of extremist groups in America, there is a thought mixed with concern and a deep sense of urgency. In the aftermath of January 6th, it has become increasingly clear that groups like Q Anon, Proud Boys, and Oath Keepers, which have always lurked in the shadows of our society, are evolving in both strategy and visibility. For years, these groups existed on the fringes, their hateful ideologies and calls for violence echoing within their closed circles. However, what has become alarmingly apparent in recent times is their transition into the mainstream. This shift has been fueled, in part, by certain individuals in positions of power who have unwittingly or otherwise given these groups a platform and a voice that they have never had before. This emboldening of extremist groups is not just a matter of concern; it represents a significant threat to the fabric of our society. In the wake of January 6th, the landscape of these groups has undergone a noticeable change. While some, like the Oath Keepers, have seen a decline in their activities, others, particularly white supremacist groups, have found new ways to thrive. In her book, Domestic Darkness, Julie Farnam admits to a less than savory relationship with a DC cop, who's since been arrested and charged with assisting the Proud Boys on January 6. Julie is candid about this relationship with DC Police, Metropolitan Police Department, Lieutenant Shane Lamond. Julie Farnam has faced many hardships in writing this book, and the personal consequences in coming forward have been significant. Julie Farnam is no longer with the Capitol Police. Her professional life and career then, and your personal life now have been tough as a whistleblower after coming forward. Based on Julie Farnam's experience and the insights from January 6, there are measures and tactics to consider that are necessary to prevent similar events in the future, especially with the 2024 presidential election approaching. We're approaching the 2024 presidential election. Some of Julie Farnam's investigative work currently is thinking about what might happen in the future in various realms. Perhaps the presidential election is one of those areas. Just what measures do you believe are necessary in order to prevent similar events that might be related to a presidential election?
As we commemorate the third anniversary of the attacks on the U.S. Capitol, we talk with DC Metropolitan Police Officer Daniel Hodges. On January 6, 2021, Ofc. Hodges responded with Civil Defense Unit 42 to the attacks on the U.S. Capitol as Capitol Police units were overrun. Ofc. Hodges fought those who assaulted the Capitol on the west lawn, the west terrace, and in the tunnel leading out to the inaugural platform, sustaining many injuries in the process. While fighting in the tunnel he was crushed by rioters in the west terrace doors of the Capitol and beaten. He returned to full duty within a month and continues to serve as an officer. Not only does he continue to serve, he also has testified in court cases about January 6 and in a case in the Colorado Supreme Court, which recently ruled that Donald Trump is disqualified from the state's 2024 ballot under the Constitution's “insurrectionist ban.” Former President Donald Trump formally asked the US Supreme Court to reverse that decision on January 3.Along with others who defended democracy on January 6, 2021, Officer Hodges received a Congressional medal, the Presidential Citizens Medal and the Center for Politics' 2023 Defenders of Democracy award.Hodges joined the Washington D.C. Metropolitan Police Department in 2014. Hodges has also received multiple awards for his services with MPD, including a Commendation medal for responding to a man brandishing a gun and threatening MPD Officers and talking him into disarming and surrendering. Civil Disturbance Unit 42 is a "rapid response" platoon that is equipped with non-standard defensive gear and is activated for policing a variety of First Amendment assemblies, protests, and riots.Links in this episode:Officer Daniel Hodges testifies to Congress about the January 6, 2021 attacks on the U.S. Capitol.Additional InformationThe Democracy Group listener surveyPolitics is Everything PodcastMore shows from The Democracy Group
Hour 3 - Happy Wednesday! Here's what Nick Reed covers this hour: Congressional investigators have obtained hours of video footage from undercover officers who were dispatched by the Washington D.C. Metropolitan Police Department to the U.S. Capitol to conduct electronic surveillance during Jan. 6, a critical new piece of evidence that could help lawmakers fashion long-delayed security reforms. Missouri's Republican Attorney General announced on X, that his office was “looking into” a dispute between the platform's owner, Elon Musk, and the "non-profit media watchdog outlet Media Matters for America." Media Matters is part of a left-wing propaganda machine that wants one thing: to censor and silence everyone who dissents from its narrative. President Joe Biden's deputies are touting the invented “Transgender Day of Remembrance.” Male transgender activists allegedly attacked several women who were holding a sidewalk protest for women's rights in Portland, Oregon, on Sunday. The IRS announced on Tuesday that it is delaying a controversial tax reporting requirement targeting Americans who made more than $600 online through third-party payment apps like Venmo or PayPal.
As of October 29, 2023, there have been 827 carjackings in Washington, DC. This is nearly three a day. In 2018, residents reported 140 carjackings, compared to 485 in 2022. DC crime data indicates there have been at least 113 arrests for carjackings so far this year, and 65% of those arrested are juveniles. D.C. has officially seen more than 200 homicides this year, according to the Metropolitan Police Department. A source within U.S. Customs and Border Protection stated another 30,000 migrants were reported as “known gotaways.” Agents assigned to the nine southwest Border Patrol sectors apprehended more than 187,000 migrants during October, according to documents reviewed by Breitbart Texas. This is the fourth consecutive month that agents apprehended more than 130,000 migrants. In addition to the more than 187,000 apprehensions, agents reported more than 30,000 migrants as known gotaways. This is a conservative estimate of migrants observed crossing the border but not apprehended by agents. The unofficial report revealed the Tucson Sector had the most apprehensions. More than 55,000 migrants were apprehended in this sector alone. This is up from 51,000 in September. One year ago, agents in this sector apprehended less than 23,000 migrants. This represents a year-over-year increase of 149 percent over the prior October. The Del Rio Sector followed Tucson with the apprehension of approximately 38,000 migrants. This is down slightly from the nearly 43,000 migrants apprehended in October 2022 and is up significantly from the 28,000 apprehended in October 2021. The Rio Grande Valley, San Diego, and El Paso Sectors rounded out the top five sectors with approximately 32,000, 29,000, and 22,000, respectively. The Rio Grande Valley and San Diego Sectors are up significantly from the prior October reports. Along the Canadian border, the Swanton Sector continues its spike in migrant apprehensions. Agents in the sector that covers the Canadian border in eastern New York, Vermont, and New Hampshire apprehended more than 1,000 migrants in the first month of FY24. This is up by nearly 200 percent over October 2022 and is roughly equal to the apprehensions for the entire Fiscal Year 2022. https://dailycaller.com/2023/11/01/dc-hands-vehicle-tracking-residents-keep-cars-stolen/ Blue City Hands Out Vehicle ‘Tracking Tags’ To Residents Because People Keep Getting Their Cars Stolen Democratic D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser announced on Wednesday that she has started a pilot program that will give some drivers a tracking device to attach to their cars so they will be able to find their vehicle if it gets stolen. The tags, which will be given to residents in six of the city’s most vehicle theft-prone areas, will be installed inside the car and will be trackable via an app on the owner’s phone, the mayor’s office said in a press release. The devices appear to be Apple AirTags, according to a photo posted by Bowser on social media. Auto thefts in D.C. have increased 101% since last year, with 5,916 cars being stolen since January, police data showed. Violent crime in the city has increased 41%, while total crime has grown by 27% since last year. Local officials claimed that the apps would help citizens recover their stolen cars more quickly and would allow officers to solve crimes more quickly or efficiently. “Our goal is not just to prevent carjackings and motor vehicle thefts, but also to ensure swift law enforcement action when these incidents occur,” acting Chief of Police Pamela A. Smith said in the press release. “These tracking devices allow our officers and detectives to be better positioned to quickly locate stolen vehicles, recover property, and gather vital evidence for investigations.” Bowser has attempted to walk back the city’s lenient approach toward crime in the past few months, unveiling a crime bill that eliminates several police reforms D.C. enacted after the George Floyd riots in 2020. D.C. first responders have said that they feel less safe because of the rising crime in the area, while many locals throughout the city complained at a House Judiciary meeting about the open crime that often takes place in broad daylight. “Last week, we introduced legislation to address recent crime trends; this week, we are equipping residents with technology that will allow the Metropolitan Police Department to address these crimes, recover vehicles, and hold people accountable,” Bowser said in the press release. “[W]e will continue to use all the tools we have, and add new tools, to keep our city safe.” https://www.breitbart.com/politics/2023/11/01/exclusive-republicans-grill-hhs-unconstitutional-trans-pronoun-mandate-employees/ Republicans Grill HHS Over ‘Unconstitutional’ Trans Pronoun Mandate for Employees Republican lawmakers are demanding answers from President Joe Biden’s Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) about its new guidelines ordering agency employees to refer to transgender coworkers by their “preferred pronouns.” Rep. Mary Miller (R-IL) is leading several other GOP lawmakers in sending a letter to HHS Secretary Xavier Becerra, grilling him for answers about the “unconstitutional” guidance and how it applies to religious employees. Breitbart News exclusively obtained a copy of the letter on Wednesday before it was sent. “We recently learned that the Biden Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is compelling political speech and violating the religious liberty rights of HHS employees by imposing a transgender pronoun mandate on your employees,” the letter reads. “We write to express our strong opposition to your illegal and unconstitutional transgender pronoun mandate, the so-called ‘HHS Gender Non-Discrimination and Inclusion Policy,’ which is a violation of the First Amendment rights of HHS employees.” “Your pronoun mandate clearly infringes upon the religious liberty and free speech rights of employees, who cannot be coerced into engaging in political speech or speech that violates their deeply held religious beliefs,” the letter continues. Lawmakers wrote the letter based on an alleged HHS internal email obtained by Roger Severino, vice president of domestic policy for the Heritage Foundation and former director of the HHS Office for Civil Rights during the Trump administration. The HHS, which employs approximately 80,000 people in the United States and abroad, imposed its new “Gender Identity and Non-Discrimination Guidance” in early October; it outlines “employee rights and protections related to gender identity,” the alleged email reads. “All employees should be addressed [by] the names and pronouns they use to describe themselves,” the email continues. The HHS also posted a video to YouTube — designated as “unlisted” — in which HHS Secretary Andrea Palm says the policy allows colleagues “to show up every day as their whole selves.” https://youtu.be/Zm3p1nKTPs8 - Play 0:00-1:10 While Palm did mention religion, neither the video nor the email disclosed if the HHS plans on accommodating or exempting employees with religious objections to affirming transgender delusions. HHS Assistant Secretary for Health Admiral Rachel Levine, who describes himself as “an out and proud transgender woman” in the video, said this policy ensures that “all HHS employees, including transgender and nonbinary employees, have equal protections in the workplace.” He added that all supervisors and managers are responsible for enforcing the policy. “Every one of us can play a role in creating a welcoming workplace,” he said. “Every one of you can make a difference in improving the feelings of inclusion for your coworkers.” https://www.defensenews.com/congress/2023/10/31/us-seeks-to-ramp-up-munitions-production-for-ukraine-israel/ US seeks to ramp up munitions production for Ukraine, Israel President Joe Biden’s $106 billion defense spending supplemental request to Congress aims in part to bolster munitions production capacity to continue rushing arms to Ukraine and Israel. The Senate Appropriations Committee questioned Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin at a Tuesday hearing on the status of U.S. stockpiles and the workforce, supply chain and infrastructure constraints of weapons manufacturers racing to replenish them. The Senate is formulating its supplemental spending bill encompassing both Ukraine and Israel aid, while the House is set to vote on a stand-alone Israel aid bill later this week. “There are some limitations in terms of how quickly they can do certain things,” said Austin. “There will continue to be workforce challenges. And when you expand capacity, there’s this issue of the time it takes to build the capacity and make sure the lines are running smoothly.” Austin noted some defense contractors have required workers to take on additional shifts to keep up with production rates. “What they’ve done in a lot of cases to meet urgent needs is double and triple shifts so that they can in some cases crank out munitions and weapons at a much greater speed,” he said. Austin’s comments come as Israel rapidly burns through munitions as it continues to bomb the 2.2 million Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, killing more than 8,500 people and wounding more than 21,500, per the Gaza Health Ministry. Shortly before the hearing, Israel bombed the Jabalia refugee camp, which the Health Ministry lambasted as a “horrific massacre” that killed at least 50 people and wounded hundreds. It is the latest of many civilian targets Israel has bombed in its campaign to destroy Hamas. Israel launched its campaign following Hamas’ massacre of approximately 1,400 Israelis and abduction of 240 hostages, per the Israel Defense Forces. On top of that, the Biden administration has less than $5.5 billion remaining to continue transferring weapons to Ukraine as the nation’s slow-moving counteroffensive fails to retake significant tracts of territory. Biden’s requested defense supplemental includes $44.4 billion to continue arming Ukraine and $14.3 billion in military aid for Israel. That request includes more Iron Dome interceptors to stop Hamas rockets and additional munitions for Israel to continue its bombardment of Gaza. A large portion of the requested funding would go toward backfilling U.S. stockpiles of weapons the Biden administration has so far sent Ukraine and Israel. There’s also $3 billion requested to expand industrial base capacity. “We simply do not have the workforce, supply chain or infrastructure necessary to meet the coming threats,” Sen. Deb Fischer, R-Neb., said at the hearing. “Building out this capacity is going to take time and resources, but we can start now by making targeted investments in our munitions production base.” Biden’s supplemental request includes $30 billion to replenish weapons sent to Ukraine as well as funding to backfill stocks given to Israel. “As a general rule, we’re going to do everything that we can to meet the demands that we see in both Ukraine and Israel,” Austin said. The U.S. and NATO continue to face a shortage of 155mm ammunition and are providing those shells both to Ukraine and Israel. https://www.breitbart.com/sports/2023/11/01/adam-johnsons-aunt-demanding-justice-after-reckless-kick-that-left-him-dead/ Adam Johnson’s Aunt Demanding ‘Justice’ After ‘Reckless’ Kick that Left Him Dead Former NHL player Adam Johnson’s family is demanding that officials in the U.K. do something to bring justice to the man whose actions ended Johnson’s life during an Oct. 28 game. The 29-year-old Johnson, who played with the Pittsburgh Penguins from 2018 to 2020, was playing in a Challenge Cup game for the Nottingham Panthers against the Sheffield Steelers in the UK’s Elite Ice Hockey League (EIHL) when Steelers player Matt Petgrave raised his leg into the air and slammed Johnson in the neck with his deadly skate blade. Johnson was rushed to a local hospital, but he lost too much blood and was pronounced dead. Now, Johnson’s 62-year-old aunt is charging that Petgrave’s actions were negligent, and she wants the police in the U.K. to charge him in Johnson’s death. “It was very reckless,” Kari Johnson said of the “horrific tragedy” of her nephew’s death, according to the New York Post. “I just want them [authorities investigating] to get it right. We are looking for justice for Adam.” She added that Pergrave’s kick was “not hockey” and insisted, “My nephew was 6 feet tall, and whether you lost your balance or not, to have that leg come up that high and do a kicking motion like he did, that is just unacceptable.” “That’s not a hockey play, that’s not a check. I understand that every team has an enforcer, per se, on their team,” Johnson reiterated. Still, Kari Johnson has carefully noted that she does not think Petgrave struck Johnson in the neck with his skate on purpose. “I’m sure Mr. Petgrave probably didn’t even think about the consequences could be of that happening, but there comes a time when you have to realize that’s not hockey,” she said. “And I’m sure he’s going through a lot, too, but he took our boy. There are a few of us in the family that think it was a totally unnecessary, very, very bad action to take.” As for Petgrave, he is reportedly “distraught” and has been “receiving vile messages online.” Meanwhile, South Yorkshire Police officials said they are investigating the incident. Police did not say, though, if they were investigating the incident as a criminal act.

That’s fightlaughfeast.com. https://thefederalist.com/2023/05/02/in-reynosa-mexico-15000-haitian-immigrants-wait-for-key-biden-policy-to-end/ In Reynosa, Mexico, 15,000 Haitian Immigrants Wait For New Chaotic Biden Policy To Kick In An estimated 15,000 mostly Haitian immigrants have packed into every crevice of this northern Mexican city on the Rio Grande across from McAllen, Texas, and won’t leave. At least not until after 11:59 p.m. on May 11. That’s the moment when the pandemic-era “Title 42” rapid expulsion policy finally expires and is replaced by a new, untested Biden administration plan for keeping them in Reynosa as well as the “volatile logjam,” as The New York Times recently termed them, of tens of thousands of other immigrants now waiting for the policy change all over Mexico. But because of a powerful deterrent of Title 42 fairly unique to them, the 15,000 Haitians in Reynosa make for a good bellwether for if the administration’s replacement strategy will hold them back as Title 42 has, or will invite the most chaotic rush on the U.S. southern border yet in this third long year of the most voluminous mass migration event in recorded American history. The reason to watch Reynosa after May 12 is that most of its Haitians, long ago overflowing migrant camps all over town, will not dare cross the river while Title 42 is in effect, unlike other nationalities who have already disregarded it by crossing in large numbers. The Haitians of Reynosa won’t go even as they enviously witness large numbers of Venezuelans nearby illegally cross in an overwhelming new surge despite Title 42 and see the American government admit them into the country. At the request of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), the U.S. service members will be sent on a 90-day temporary deployment assisting Customs and Border Patrol (CBP), the Pentagon announced on Tuesday. The troops will not carry out law enforcement work, but instead perform support duties that will free up CBP agents to detain and process migrants. Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas said Sunday the government is bracing for a record tide of migration across the southwest border when pandemic restrictions, known as Title 42, end on May 11. The Trump-era authorities prevented migrants from requesting asylum and allowed U.S. border agents to quickly expel migrants out of public-health concerns. Mayorkas emphasized the immigration system was stretched thin on resources and made a public case for federal relief.“I just want to be clear that we are working within significant constraints,” he said Sunday on “Meet the Press.” “We need people. We need technology. We need facilities. We need transportation resources—all of the elements of addressing the needs of a large population of people arriving irregularly at our southern border.” Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) Commissioner Troy Miller told Congress last month his agency is preparing for about 10,000 migrant crossings every day once Title 42 ends. President Joe Biden signed an executive order April 27 to call-up active-duty troops to combat international drug trafficking, officials said. The DHS then formally asked for the Pentagon’s support, which Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin approved on Tuesday. Currently, there are about 2,500 troops—members of the National Guard on active-duty orders—deployed along the 2,000-mile-long southwest border supporting CBP’s efforts. For years, U.S. forces have monitored “Mobile Surveillance Cameras” in all nine border sectors in each of the four states bordering Mexico. The devices are armed with infrared cameras, enabling service members to watch for illegal border crossings day or night. https://thepostmillennial.com/breaking-jay-inslee-will-not-seek-4th-term-as-washingtons-governor-in-2024?utm_campaign=64487 Jay Inslee will not seek 4th term as Washington's governor in 2024 Washington state Governor Jay Inslee (D) announced Monday that he will not seek re-election in 2024. In a statement, Inslee said: "Today I announced I will not be running for a fourth term. We've made Washington a beacon for progress, and now it's time to pass the torch," Gov Inslee said on Twitter. "I'm proud of the progress we've made on so many fronts: climate, financial aid, paid family leave, legal justice system reforms, gun safety, reproductive freedom... Now is the time to intensely focus on all we can accomplish in the next year and a half. I intend to do just that.” Inslee's announcement follows the conclusion of an "intense" and "controversial" legislative session where the democrat-controlled House and Senate voted to ban semi-automatic firearms, make Washington a sanctuary state for minors seeking gender affirming care and abortions, and legalized possession of illicit drugs, to name a few. Governor Inslee became the second governor in state history to serve three consecutive terms after he was re-elected in 2020, and in his announcement Inslee called his tenure a "dynamic success." Under Inslee's governance, Washington state has succumbed to criminal lawlessness as well as an existential homeless crisis rippling throug the evergreen state. Immediately following the announcement, critics of the governor took to social media to praise Inslee's decision to step down from his post, saying "good riddance." https://thenationalpulse.com/2023/05/01/carjackings-in-washington-dc-skyrocketing/ How Many Carjackings in Washington, D.C. in 2023? Here Are The Staggering Numbers… Carjackings in Washington D.C. continue to skyrocket in line with a five-year trend that has the local police chief Robert Contee lamenting that crimes are happing “at a pace that I have not seen in my 30-plus year career here with the Metropolitan Police Department.” Since the beginning of the year, there have been a staggering 228 carjackings in the District, 78 of which occurred in April alone, with 23 in the last week, according to the Washington D.C. Metropolitical Police Department (MPD). Despite 74 percent of this year’s carjackings featuring a firearm, less than 35 percent of carjacking offenses are prosecuted. In 2018, there were 148 carjackings in D.C., and 152 in 2019. However, following the death of George Floyd, the D.C. city council announced its intention to slash $15 million from the MPD’s annual budget. This resulted in an explosion in carjackings, amongst other crimes. In 2020, there were 360 carjackings, followed by 425 in 2021, and 485 last year. If carjackings continue to occur at the current rate, there may be as many as 600 by the end of 2023. Republicans from the U.S. House of Representatives were forced to intervene earlier this year after the D.C. council wanted to reduce penalties for violent crimes such as carjacking and gun possession. The D.C. council thought it better to lower the maximum jail time for carjackings, and eliminate most mandatory minimum sentences for crimes in the capitol than addressing the problem as the MPD demanded. The Criminal Code Act of 2022 was, however, blocked by the U.S. Congress from coming into force, with 33 Democrat Senators even voting against the bill. Andrew Clyde, a House Representative from Georgia’s 9th District, led the charge against the Criminal Code Act, arguing that Congress had to “stop this insanity in its tracks.” The Democrat Mayor of Washington D.C., Muriel Bowser, has also promised free steering wheel locks for some cars after suggesting one of the reasons why carjackings are so common had something to do with a “recent social media challenge.” These actions, however, do not meet the demands of the local police force. A representative of the MPD Carjacking Task Force, Valkyrie Barnes, argues, “It’s ridiculous… unless there is some kind of deterrent to this, it’s not going to stop… we need more [detectives].” The District of Columbia and many of its residents currently support the notion of adding D.C. as a fully-fledged state, arguing that residents are taxed as citizens, but do not receive commensurate representation as a result. Opponents of this cause point out that D.C. residents often have far more political sway than ordinary voters around the country, and that the purpose of the District, per the nation’s founders, was to be separate from the Congress and its machinations. Many of the latter group believe that much of D.C. should be given back to Virginia and Maryland as a means to create a compromise over representation. https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/vice-media-bankruptcy-journalism-layoffs-b2330554.html Vice heading for bankruptcy after once being worth $5.7bn, reports say Vice, once heralded as the insurgent leader of a new generation of media companies, is heading for bankruptcy, according to The New York Times. Two people familiar with Vice operations told the paper the media company is looking for a buyer. Otherwise, the company will have to file for bankruptcy, the unnamed sources said. “Vice Media Group has been engaged in a comprehensive evaluation of strategic alternatives and planning,” Vice said in a statement on Monday to the Times. “The company, its board and stakeholders continue to be focused on finding the best path for the company.” The media company, which got its start as a Canadian alternative publication, eventually became a digital powerhouse known for its in-your-face, youth-focused stories about politics, music, and culture, told across a constellation of websites, films, podcasts, TV shows, the flagship magazine, and eventually a standalone TV network. Vice News reporters filed memorable documentaries like a report from the Charlottesville “Unite the Right” rally in 2017, as well as reporting gonzo tales like chronicling NBA legend Dennis Rodman’s visit to North Korea. A 2017 investment round led by TPG once valued the company at $5.7bn. More recently, the company was thought to be worth less than $1bn, according to reports earlier this year about the company’s potential search for a buyer. Despite receiving acclaim for its unique style of storytelling, as well investments from marquee names like Disney and Fox, the company has continued to struggle financially. Last week, the company announced it would cancel its flagship “Vice News Tonight” show and lay off dozens of employees amid a larger corporate restructuring, the latest in a bruising season of media layoffs that saw cuts at Insider, NPR, Paper magazine, and the demise of Buzzfeed News. That follows reports that the Vice got an emergency $30m in financing to pay off a growing number of debts. In February, Vice Media chief executive Nancy Dubuc left the company. The previous year, the company scuttled plans to go public through a special purpose acquisition company. In addition to its financial woes, Vice has been plagued by scandals, with critics charging the company’s anti-establishment ethos at times covered up a corporate culture rife with abuse.

Title 42’s impact on them is why its ending makes Reynosa and its reticent population of Haitians almost the perfect bellwether to know if the Biden administration’s plan for May 12 is going to work as sold. Either way, many hundreds of thousands, turning into millions by the end of the Biden term, will enter. Today on Failure to Stop, Drew will break down the officer involved shooting that took place in a joint investigation of a stolen car in the DC area. On the morning of Saturday, March 18, United States Park Police officers responded to a request for assistance by Metropolitan Police Department officers for the stolen vehicle investigation. The driver was initially asleep behind the wheel, and while attempting to detain him, the driver awoke and fled in the vehicle with a USPP officer inside. A second officer, a USPP sergeant, was dragged by the fleeing car from outside the vehicle. After giving verbal commands to stop the vehicle, the officer used deadly force, and the vehicle crashed a short time later. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. December 11, 1995. Washington, D.C.. The fire department is summoned to a townhouse and discovers the burning body of 38-year old Lynn Amos on her bed. Lynn is still alive at the time and taken to a hospital with burns on the majority of her body, but she passes away ten days later. While investigators initially believe that Lynn's death was an accident, traces of accelerants are found on the bed to indicate that arson took place and she was the victim of a homicide. There is speculation that Lynn was murdered because of something she uncovered at her job as a financial analyst, but the identity of her killer and their motive remain a mystery. March 26, 2000. Lufkin, Texas. The fire department arrives at the apartment of 26-year old Megan Curl and extinguishes a fire on her bed. They soon notice that Megan was tied to the bed, suffocated with a plastic bag and had her throat slashed before her body was set ablaze. The previous evening, Megan had gone to a pair of local nightclubs and shortly after she returned to her apartment complex, a man she supposedly met at one of the clubs showed up there to meet her. Even though one of Megan's neighbours saw the man inside her apartment, he is never identified and the crime is never solved. On this week's episode of “The Trail Went Cold”, we cover a pair of unsolved murders involving female victims who were set on fire on their beds. If you have any information about the murder of Lynn Amos, please contact the Metropolitan Police Department of the District of Columbia at (202) 727-4383.
