In case you hadn't noticed, new art work is appearing throughout the city of Manchester. It all started just off Elm Street on Cat Alley, then on the side of the building that houses the Rex Theatre and now in the Millyard area of the Queen City where the pillars of the Bridge Street Bridge have been colorfully painted by the Orbit Group and their Creative Director, Dave Hady. Dave joined us Thursday to discuss all of the works including his just-completed giant multi-colored tribute to Joseph Nelson, the man who had the foresight and knowledge back in the late 1960's and early ‘70's to envision a new direction for the Manchester Millyard leading to where it is today. Also with us for the program was Joseph Nelson's son, Bob, who told us some of his dad's accomplishments in re-shaping and revitalizing what is now one of the leading homes of the high tech industry in this country.

Also on the show, sportswriter Curtis Stock, a member of the Canadian Horse Racing Hall of Fame and author of the new book, “The Turcottes: The Remarkable Story of a Horse Racing Dynasty.” It's based on the five Turcotte brothers who became very successful jockeys. Ron Turcotte rode Secretariat to horse racing's Triple Crown in 1973 and together the Brothers Turcotte combined for 8,251 wins and prize money of nearly 60-million dollars. There was much triumph but also much tragedy along the way in this intriguing and heartbreaking story.

This week Ashley and Alex welcome Judi Window to the show! Judi and her husband, Gary "Diz" Window, are the owners of Diz's Cafe, an amazing addition to the downtown restaurant scene. They signed their lease on January 6, 2020, and opened on May 29 during the height of COVID. Judi is a 5th generation Manchester resident, and has an unmatched sense of love and pride for our great city! While Diz's might be fairly new, the Windows are no strangers to food service. Diz has worked in the food service industry since he was 16. He and Judi have been resident managers of several motels with full service restaurants, and have worked together in many food service roles throughout the years. Diz's Cafe is known for scratch-made comfort food, and great drinks with a family flair. When you dine at Diz's, your meal will be served on historic dinnerware that has been passed down through Judi's family. Some of the pieces are relics from the original Rex Theatre! Follow Diz's Cafe on Facebook and Instagram to stay up to date on the latest events and specials. We encourage you to visit Diz's Cafe for one of their ever-popular theme nights, or to enjoy mimosas and brunch on the weekends!

Episode 043 welcomes DC-born, NOLA-based NIGEL HALL (Lettuce, Jon Cleary, ex-The Nth Power) to the show for an hour-plus Vulcan Mind Probe. Nige has been a friend for about a dozen years, and I've written extensively about his musical exploits, so this convergence was a very long time in the making. The extremely gifted, Grammy-nominated keyboardist/vocalist - singer/songwriter keeps a lot of artistic irons in the fire. Nigel's dropping sophomore solo LP Spiritual on May 14, 2021, a stunning sojourn into Soulquarian waters co-produced by DJ Harrison and backed by members of Butcher Brown.    @9mins- Introducing NIGEL HALL / @16mins-"Wake Me" Nigel Hall / @20mins - Interview  In a wide-ranging convo, topics include: what's the latest in New Orleans , we get the 411 on Nigel's musical partnership with NOLA-based Jon Cleary & the Absolute Monster Gentlemen. His motivations and inspirations behind the forthcoming Spiritual, as Nigel reveals a bit about his process and the project's native tongues. We unpack his role over the years with Lettuce, and how the keyboard chair and his contributions to the band have evolved over time. Quick detours to George Duke & J Dilla, with a funny Suwannee flashback or two to boot.  Naturally, we had to get into his time in The Nth Power, and he offers poignant, impassioned reflections that gave me chills. So did his defiant, righteous anger as a Black father to a pair of sons entering young adulthood. So many rabbit holes, with many stones left unturned. Super proud of this powerful powwow with one of the greatest to ever do it; a spiritual awakening of the soulful variety. Touchfaster provides entertainment and media services in the Pittsburgh area—including but not limited to event booking and coordination, multimedia design, photography, promotions, recording, sound and lighting, and video production. While that sentence is accurate and chock-full of information, it doesn't provide a vivid enough picture of what this three person group has actually accomplished. Beginning with seasonal parties showcasing bands and visual artists from the area, Touchfaster has grown, taking on bigger projects including a 21 piece live band tribute performance to the iconic Thriller album this past Halloween. (I can't give words to describe how upset I am that I missed this). Each member of Touchfaster utilizes their own expertise to work on everything from recording a band's record,  interviews with artists,  organizing open mic nights, and producing a local studio's dance performance. Their plans continue to grow and as we chat, Brando and Pierce get into their personal motivations, share their experiments, and impart how important it is to start small, keep working, and allow a project to come together. The latest event is Winter WUNDERGROUND next week, January 11th at the Rex Theatre in Pittsburgh's Southside at 8PM. Event info can be found in the Facebook invite (share the invite! let them know you are going! I did...) and tickets are available for purchase through Showclicks.
